As he plays with their little girl, he sees his wife smiling at him. He pecks her lips and says, "Welcome back."
She grins at him, as she responds, "Good to be back." He kisses her lips once again, and she puts Isa in her carrier that's sitting on the coffee table in front of them, while Josie gets in his lap, as they watch television together, refusing to think about the doom and gloom to come.
Back To Work
The first day back had been a long day of shooting, and while it was good to see the cast, and reconnecting with everyone. As usual the expected drama that is Shonda was not in short supply.
With them now being 4 weeks into shooting season 4; so much has transpired. With an unsettling beginning to the season, due to some fan hysteria over the opening episode. The season ratings have rebounded to a degree, holding steady at 5.5 million viewers, with the season opener numbers being under 5 million.
The dip in numbers didn't go unnoticed by the front office. In fact, Channing made it clear that moves were being made to stabilize the viewership of the show as a whole. As a result, there appeared to be more of a presence of suits on set as of late. Something everybody noticed, especially when the production budget was cut.
Both Kerry and Tony felt like it was possible Shonda was dealing with the fallout from the change in leadership at the network, as well as the recent comments made about the show by other celebs and network executives in the press, and on social media. The criticism was scathing, plain and simple. The majority of critics didn't understand, or like the new direction of the show, and they weren't being quiet about it.
Many also felt like the idea that another award season had passed, with little to no nominations for the show wasn't lost on anybody. And, again, that fan reaction from the first episode of the season was lingering like a bad case of herpes.
Who knew that allowing Olivia and Jake to say, "Hi." The greeting that was always designated for Olitz would cause such an uproar? It was clear the Olitzer's were not pleased at all. Twitter was still ablaze about it weeks after the fact, with many fans stating they were giving up on the show.
Additionally, they said Fitz not being in the first few episodes was adding insult to injury, and many folks felt like Fitz was being removed from the show's main story line; while they were being force fed Olake.
While Tony and Kerry couldn't agree more with the fan base's reaction. They had both agreed to still remain professional, understanding the situation was completely out of their control with respect to the writing. They kept their heads down, and focused on the work. Doing the promotional dates they were contracted for, and not one additional date more.
Knowing this was still a sore spot for Shonda, and understanding it was a pure control issue. Both Tony and Kerry didn't blink after Shonda once presented more rewrites in the first 3 episodes of this season, than she'd ever presented since the show began.
And, after getting through the first half of shooting. Kerry decided to exert one more instance of power where Shonda was concerned, causing yet another rift on set.
After seeing the route the show was taking; she decided to ask for a body double for her sex scenes with Scott's character Jake.
To say this fueled more discord between Kerry and Shonda, would be an understatement. There were charged discussions between them about the request, that left Kerry feeling empowered, and Shonda feeling bitter and angry. Tony was proud of his wife for using her voice to state how she felt. They both knew they had to pick their battles, and this one was a win they both revered.
As shooting continued, in a surprise twist, everyone overall was feeling better about the storylines as the fall holidays approached.
Despite all of the drama on set. The cast was finding it's groove. Kerry appeared to be getting material she could work with, showing her acting prowess, while keeping her clothes on, and there was a small uptick in the ratings during the kidnapping scenario which unfolded in the middle of the season.
Professionally, it was what it was for Kerry and Tony. They were making the best of it for sure. But personally, life was good. They were getting ready for the slate of fall and winter holidays, including Isa's first Christmas and Thanksgiving.
As shooting wrapped for the first half of the season. Kerry was in her trailer preparing to leave for the fall break. As she changed Isa's diaper. She played with her little one, and got her dressed too.
After getting packed up, she called her assistant to come help her load up the car. Once the car was packed; Tony joined her, and they headed home.
While driving home, Tony's phone rings. Looking at the caller id, they have no idea what waits on the other end of the phone. And after he hits the answer button, it is obvious that life as they know it is about to change.
Thank you for reading my fan fiction tale. Well, Olitz returned from their family trip. And, as predicted. Shonda wasn't happy about their disappearance. But, what else is now? What do you think about the family coming together to celebrate Isa? Life is good for Terry right now, right. But, we all know nothing stays good for long in the world of fanfiction.
In the next installment we find out about the call Tony received, and we find out about how complicated life becomes for Terry, as their path to happiness hits an unexpected turn. Life is a balancing act, and you're not always ready to balance all the balls you have in the air.
