Chapter 5 - Nightmares and Broken Lamps
The Doctor and Rose spent that evening watching the movies that Rose's younger brother had sent them. But not before watching the episode of Star Trek that had been playing on the telly when Rose first turned it back on.
"I love this show." The Doctor laughed. "It's just….completely ridiculous."
"I wouldn't expect you to say anything any different." She smiled.
The Doctor had very rarely ever just sat on the sofa for hours, but being planted next to Rose seemed to be the only place he wanted to be. Sitting there with his arm wrapped around her, he was lost in his thoughts. He hadn't even realized he was stroking her arm with his fingertips.
Rose asked him something that returned him to the present.
"I'm sorry. What?"
"Are there Vulcans in real life?"
"No." He insisted as if the thought was completely mad. "Although, if I had to say someone was close to that…"
"Oh, this will be good."
"Well, it's not a people as much as it is a….like a…."
"Group?"
"A religious order would probably be the closest thing to it."
She nodded. "Have you and I ever been there?"
"No." He shook his head. "I haven't been there in-" he blew his lips as he thought. "Gosh. I have no idea."
She teased, "Perhaps, that's a place you haven't been."
"Oh, I'm sure I have. There was this one King from there who was a mate of mine. Why can't I think of that?"
"What's the name of the planet?"
"It doesn't have a name."
"Oh, come on. It does." She mirrored his smile.
"It doesn't! Even the people who live here just refer to it as their homeworld."
"So, you met them, and when you ask them where they are from?"
"They reply their homeworld. Or The Homeworld." He smiled and kissed her lips quickly. "The people are called…something. I can't think of it at the moment." He confessed and propped his head back upon his fist. "Why can't I think of it?"
She rubbed his thigh. Her touch so close to his waist completely rushed thoughts into his head that immediately made him blush. His eyes watched her hand move up the inside of his leg. He forced himself to look back at the telly.
He cleared his throat. "What was I on about?"
"Vulcans don't have a name for their planet." She reminded him.
"Oh, yes. Actually, that isn't that odd of a thing."
"Really?"
"Well, yeah. I mean even this planet. Earth. It's another world for the soil."
She smiled, "That's a good point."
After the episode ended, Rose ordered some pizza to be delivered. She remembered to get enough for the bodyguards, which they thanked her for when they dropped off their pizza.
Even though it was strange with the bodyguards being right outside the door, the Doctor had to admit that he hadn't thought about them all day. It was like they weren't even really there. He briefly had wondered if some of his senses may not be working as well as they used to. But, then. With a pang, he remembered that he now had a human body.
He grimaced at the thought.
"What's that face for?" She smiled.
"What?"
"Don't you like pizza? We could have gotten something else-"
"No. I mean, yes. Of course, I like pizza."
"Then, what's with the face?" She asked as she smiled.
He pointed at the door with his pizza. "These bodyguards you have are just…"
"Awesome?" She asked as she picked up the box and brought it over to where they had been sitting.
"It's weird." He confessed. "It's as though."
She sat back down on the sofa. "As though, what?"
"I don't know. It's … anyway. What are we watching now?" He said as he sat down beside her again.
Rose was about three bites into eating a piece of pizza when she sat it down and held her hand up to her cheek. She moaned a bit.
"Something wrong?"
"I think something is wrong with my tooth," she explained.
"Let me see."
"Umm. No." She insisted.
"Maybe it's a broken tooth or something. We have to take you back to be checked-up in the morning. We'll mention it to the doctor then. Will it be okay until then?"
She shook her head. "That's not something I can just heal from?"
"Probably not. Or at least if it has broken or it's out of socket or whatever. Teeth are funny like that."
He couldn't help but notice her intense look of fear all of a sudden on her face.
"Rose. What's the matter? You look terrified." he was suddenly scared for her.
"The dentist? Oh gosh, I hate the dentist! I'm not kidding. When I was a kid, I would wander off to keep from going to the dentist. They have always scared me! I don't want to deal with it. Just let it hurt! I'm not going to go." she shouted with angry determination.
The dentist? Was she serious? After everything this girl had been through, this was scaring her this bad?
"You wander off normally," he exclaimed as he shrugged his shoulders. But seeing the look on Rose's face added. "But... really Rose, it is a legitimate fear to have. It will be alright. Tell you what, I'll go with you and help you through it."
He took another huge bite of pizza.
"How on earth can you do that?" she asked. "You plan to drug me up or something?"
He shook his head as he swallowed and smiled, "Oh, no—nothing like that. But, I promise I will stay right there with you. I won't let anything bad happen to you. Nothing will hurt. And you'll never know you are even there. What do you say? Do you trust me?"
Rose looked at him and considered.
"You really have to think about this? " he asked with his voice very high.
She smiled and said, "Alright."
She leaned over and kissed him lightly on the lips.
He beamed at her. "I love this."
"Domestics?" She teased.
"I'm getting used to it." He confessed. "In fact, I found out that they didn't have Shakespeare here! Shakespeare, Rose! Granted, that might not be entirely true. Even in the dimension that we are from, no one would have ever known about Shakespeare's brilliant plays had it not been for two of his friends, John Heminges and Henry Condell, who published his works after he died. Nice fellows. Bit thick, though." he took another large bite.
"You've met Shakespeare?"
"Of course!" he said with his mouth full of pizza. He swallowed and continued, "I should have had him on 10% all of the good lines he got out of me."
He tossed one of his hands in the air dramatically and stated, " 'To be, or not to be!' Wait, that one was his."
Rose just looked at her Doctor and shook her head. Some things never changed.

Rose never asked anything about the Doctor's hand but noticed that he continued to keep it wrapped even when they went to bed that night. As they lay down together, she settled her head on his chest and asked him, "Hand bothering you?"
"Nah," he told her as he started unwrapping it. "It will probably do good to take this off."
She snuggled onto his chest, "Just keep it still."
"Yeah." He groaned and tossed the wrapping on the floor. After kissing one another goodnight, she went right to sleep. Rose was feeling safe, and the medicine those doctors had her made her sleep.
He lay there, gently running his fingertips up and down her arm, thinking about their impending move and their upcoming extended holiday. How was he going to take the TARDIS with him without her knowing? He couldn't get her hopes up in case he wasn't able to grow it successfully. She had enough disappointments in her life. He never wanted to see her sad again. He kissed her on the forehead again and went to sleep.

He was terrified inside of the dark room. What were they going to do to him? He looked down and realized that he couldn't move. He was strapped to a table. A bright light clicked on above him to reveal a woman. She stood over him menacingly. "We've killed your companion, and now we will kill you! But, not before we get some information from you." The woman stretched her hands towards his throat-
He woke up with a start and sat straight upright in the bed. Next to him, Rose was shouting, "No! Get off of me!" Then it was clear. She must have accidentally pulled him into her dream as she slept. He jumped onto his knees in the bed and shook Rose awake.
"Rose! You are having a nightmare! Wake up. Rose!"
Rose opened her eyes and punched him hard across the face. He fell backward, taking the lamp with him. His already sore hand hit the floor first as he felt the weight of his body break his wrist.
At first, neither one of them said anything. Then, in a muffled voice from the floor, "Awww. Blimey, that hurt!"
"Oh my God! I can't believe I did that!"
She jumped onto the floor next to him. He was holding his face and had his hand cradling at his stomach.
"Oh shit. I can't believe this. Are you alright?"
He sounded muffled still. "Oddly enough, I'm not capable of complex reasoning and judgment at the moment."
Rose rushed over to the light switch and flipped it on so they could both evaluate the damage. At first, he didn't want to move his hand from his face to let her see, but when he finally allowed her to pull his hand away, she saw that he had a dark mark already under one of his eyes.
"Oh, gosh. I'm so sorry."
He smiled, despite the pain. "I think it's alright-"
"It looks terrible."
"I'm really alright." He smiled.
"Let help you up."
She pulled him up, and he sat back on the edge of the bed.
"I'll go get you some ice."
She returned and held the ice pack to his face.
His eyes met hers, and after a few seconds, he busted out laughing.
"Rose Tyler, damn, you have a mean right hook. Damn."
Rose, still embarrassed, "I'm so, so sorry. I was having a dream...and I didn't realize I had hit you until you hit the floor."
The Doctor was still laughing. "Blimey, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. That's harder than even Jackie Tyler hit me that time. Geez."
She caught his eye and smiled. She couldn't help but start laughing as well.
They had a good, long laugh at his expense.
"Nah, really...I'm sorry." he said, still giggling. "I should have known better. I knew you were having a nightmare. I shouldn't have tried to wake you up that way."
"Well, that will make you think twice about it next time, won't it?"
"Oh, yes it will." he said, removing the ice pack from his eye and placing it on his wrist. "Awww! Can you hand me the wrap?"
Rose picked it up and handed it to him. "Do you want me to -"
He had already started wrapping it. "Nah, it's nothing. I'll get a splint in the morning at the doctor's office. Rubbish body this. Can't even take falling out of bed?"
"I'm really so sorry."
His eyes met hers. He whispered, "Rose. I'm not made of glass."
She smiled and relaxed. Lying his uninjured hand on her cheek, he leaned in and kissed her. She opened her mouth to allow his tongue in to dance with hers. Unseen by either of them, a small golden glow began to dance around them both.
The long passionate kiss continued. Rose moved closer to him. This moment was all she had wanted for so long. There he was, in her bed, snogging her. Without thinking, she moved her hands inside of his shirt. She teased the hair under his navel, causing him to chuckle into her mouth.
He leaned back and smiled at her. "How are you feeling?"
"Me? You're the one that just got hit."
"Well, yeah. But…"
She rose her eyebrows. "What are you really asking?"
His eyes followed her figure. He mumbled, "I'm just…I'm worried I may have hurt you earlier when we…"
She teased, "Had sex?"
He laughed at his bashfulness. "Well. Yeah. I just. I had really wanted to do that for a long time with you and-"
She crashed her lips into his to stop him from talking. Without meaning to, she hit his injured hand. He yelped and pulled away from her.
"Oh, no!" She began.
"Nah, it's alright." He attempted to reassure her through his wincing.
She sighed, "Damn. I'm really so sorry."
He placed the ice pack back on his injured hand. "And here I thought domestics were going to be a soft place to retire."
She rolled her eyes and jumped up to turn off the light switch. "Yeah, may need to toughen up a bit."
He chuckled as he climbed back under the duvet.
By the time Rose had returned to bed, he was looking at his wrapped hand. The Doctor attempted to make a fist, but the grimace on his face told Rose that the pain would not allow him to do it. She lay down on his chest again as he propped his sore hand on his chest above her.
"Do you want one of my pain pills?" she asked him.
"Nah," he told her. "Better not. I don't know what this body can take."
They lay there for a while longer.
She whispered, "John?"
He smiled without opening his eyes, "You're using my name."
"Jonathan?"
"Which do I look more like?" He asked her quietly.
She spoke softly. "Neither one."
They laughed together.
"So, do we need to revisit my name?"
"No. But which would you prefer that I call you?"
She had pushed his shirt up to begin kissing his stomach.
"It doesn't matter. I suppose-" He cleared his throat.
She continued to kiss him as she slipped his jammies down. He was hard in an instant.
"I suppose.." He began again just as she took him entirely into her mouth.
His eyes instantly rolled back in his head. He completely forgot about the pain from his injuries. He moaned, "John. John is fine."
She rolled her tongue around the top of his shaft.
He heard Rose whisper, "Just. Relax. Focus on the pleasure."
Just as he started to wonder how she had even spoken to him with that mouthful, he completely forgot to.
He had never felt anything like this. His entire body tingled as she continued her work. So warm with a love fill his soul unlike anything he had ever experienced.
"Relax." She whispered.
"Yes." He said aloud.
He forgot about everything as he allowed himself to only focus on the pleasure she was giving him. She moved up and down, stroking him with her lips. Her beautiful lips that were so moist and-
Overcome with laughter, she stopped and looked at him. "Wow. You really like that."
"Why did you stop?"
"What were you saying?"
"When?"
She straddled his waist and leaned down to kiss him. He welcomed her tongue into his mouth again as they began to snog.
He grabbed the front of her jammies. She seemed to read his mind as she quickly took them off and tossed them on the floor. Straddling him again, she moved where he slipped into her wet folds easily.
They continued to snog as she moved on him. She opened her eyes just in time to see his roll back in his head.
"Do you like that, John?" She whispered.
He replied dreamily.
She stopped her movement and giggled.
"What?" He asked.
She began to move again on him. "Oh, you really love this."
He gripped her bum with both of his hands to encourage her to continue moving on him. "Rose. I –"
She stopped his words as her lips met his again. She became a bit more aggressive and bit his lip with a growl.
He smiled under her kiss, "Rose…I-"
He sat up and grabbed her tightly. She knew he was done when he collapsed against the pillows and panted. With him still inside of her, she leaned down and kissed him lightly on the end of the nose. He could see her clearly in the glowing yellow light. Being so close to her, he couldn't tell that the light was coming from Rose's skin.
She rubbed her nose to his, "Oh, how I love you, John."
He closed his eyes as he tried to catch his breath. "Man, I'm out of shape."
She giggled at him. "I've worn you out."
"Rose. I need to tell you-"
"Shhh…" he heard, just as he fell into a deep sleep.
