"Something is wrong with Blaine", Sam told their friends when they were having dinner in the restaurant close to their hotel. "Has anyone seen him after he left yesterday?"
The other seven people shook their heads. Since Blaine had stormed out of Finn's and Kurt's parents house, it's been half a week, and since that event, they had only seen him every now and then. The group had decided to stay in Lima for a while to be there for Finn and his family, so they resided in a hotel not far away.
"But you guys need to understand", Quinn said thoughtfully "Kurt's accident was the most painful for him, after all, he seemed to love him."
"I don't think it's only about Kurt", Tina commented with a frown "Once, I even caught him talking to himself, and when I asked him about it, he didn't want to answer. What if he is just imagining things? What if Kurt's death is driving him crazy?"
"Yeah, what if he needs help?", Mercedes agreed, looking worried.
"By the way, where is he now?", Puck asked in the round "I saw him leaving in the morning, but until now, he didn't show up again."
Finn retrieved his phone and dialed his number.
"Forget it", he muttered, looking at his display "He doesn't pick up."
The group of eight exchanged worried glances.
"We need to find him", Rachel finally spoke up. "We cannot make the same mistake like with Kurt. Back then, nobody worried about him, and we all know how it ended."
…
Actually, Blaine had no idea why he agreed to all this. He was still mourning, but that Sebastian guy wouldn't leave him alone.
"It's time for you to move on, sexy", Sebastian had told him with a wink. "And that party of mine will surely do you good."
Turned out that Sebastian was one of those billionaire sons that had his own jets and could pick up Blaine from Lima and fly him to a High Society cocktail party. Since he didn't want to answer the questions of his overprotective friends, Blaine didn't tell anyone of his Cluster about his whereabouts.
So there he was, standing next to Sebastian in a dark suit and neatly gelled back hair (he even shaved off his three-day beard he had grown since Kurt disappeared, and yes, Blaine still refused to believe that he was dead).
"That's great, right?", Sebastian winked at him, and Blaine forced himself to smile.
Blaine just nodded numbly. He appreciated that Sebastian had tried to cheer him up, but he still didn't feel in the mood for socializing, especially not with all those snobs and spoiled women.
"Yes", he answered anyway, and Sebastian squeezed his arm.
Why did he agree to accompanying a complete stranger to that party again? Blaine had no idea. At least, the cocktails on the bar looked great, and since this was an All-You-Can-Drink Event, he didn't even have to pay for them.
Sebastian who was busy talking to the daughter of an Oligarch, turned to Blaine with a smirk (in their heads, of course. In reality, Sebastian was still complimenting Anastacia's stunning outfit). "Is something wrong, sexy?" He started touching Blaine's thigh and squeezing it. A cold shiver was running down Blaine's spine, and he kind of felt ashamed that his little touch didn't leave him unfazed.
What could he say, he was just a guy too, he couldn't help it. An extremely vulnerable guy at that. And Sebastian was pretty attractive as well, which wasn't helping at all.
"What is even the purpose of this party?", Blaine asked him after having inhaled sharply. "Do you just want to socialize with extremely powerful people?"
Sebastian shook his head slowly. "Nope, not really, sexy. You see, half of these people here are Sensates."
Blaine's eyes widened. "Really?"
"Oh, yes", Sebastian confirmed proudly while he pulled him closer by the waist. "We have that big project we want to implement one day: Since we are all wealthy people, we could get enough money to purchase an entire island. An island for just our kind."
"You mean, only Sensates?", Blaine asked him with cocked eyebrows, not trying to flinch because they were dangerously close to each other-kind of.
"Yes, that's pretty much the plan, sexy", Sebastian answered with a smirk. "Sensates among themselves, far away from those mentally retarded humans."
Blaine gasped for air. He needed to think about Wes and David, his brother Cooper, and his parents. How dared he insulting them?
Sebastian must have noticed that he had said the wrong thing, so he quickly added: "Just kidding, Blaine. But I do have a point, right? Sensates have so much potential, and it would be wasted if they only lived among plain normal humans." He came closer to Blaine so that the latter one could feel Sebastian's breath on his cheek, put his arms around his shoulders and started caressing his face. "Your potential would be wasted, sexy." His mouth came closer and closer, and Blaine gulped, trying to find a way out of this.
"Sebastian?" Anastacia was tipping on his shoulder, and Sebastian blinked at her.
"Sorry, darling, I was somewhere else with my thoughts." In the truest sense of word.
Blaine quickly retreated even though Sebastian was standing next to Anastacia and not trying to make out with him-like he did in their heads. "If you would excuse me, I need another drink", he stammered nervously before he fled to the bar, away from Sebastian's lustful glances - and his mental closeness.
An island for Sensates only? Whether it was a good idea?
But to be honest, he didn't care about Sebastian and his rich friends were planning. He just wanted Kurt back. Kurt with his warm smile and his icy blue eyes. Kurt with his impeccable hairdo, like this guy standing at the bar over here. Kurt with his...
Hold up.
This guy standing at the bar over there?!
Blaine did a double-take when he arrived at the bar, and flinched, his eyes widened. Next to him was a familiar chestnut-haired guy in a black suit who was nipping on his drink.
But…? How was that possible?
"Kurt?"
Kurt turned to Blaine. His hair was slightly shorter than before, and he looked pale, but without a doubt, it was him. Blaine's eyes lit up. "Kurt, you're alive!" He quickly pulled him into a hug, but Kurt pulled away from him, looking irritated.
Blaine didn't seem to notice. "Where were you? What are you doing here? Gosh, me and your family were worried sick when you just didn't show up. We…we all thought you were dead!"
"Do I know you?", Kurt asked him confusedly. "Who are you?"
When he said that, Blaine's eyes widened in shock, and he abruptly let go of him. "You…you don't know who I am?" For some weird reason, he was unable to talk to Kurt mentally.
But that Kurt didn't even know who he was, was more alarming.
Something was wrong.
Very wrong.
-Let's jump back in time a bit, shall we?-
-Two weeks earlier-
Kurt's eyes flew open. The last thing he remembered was him drowning in the cold waves of the sea during a storm. Wasn't he supposed to be dead now? He looked around. He was lying in bed in a dark room, his head was hurting.
Where was he? Did Vince and his criminal friends catch him again? But why wasn't he gagged, or tied to a chair?
"Good morning, kid", a female voice next to him suddenly said, and Kurt almost yelped. "Did ya sleep well?"
"Where am I?" His voice sounded raspy, so he cleared his throat and repeated his question.
"Congrats, you are dead", the woman said dryly, poured some whiskey of her Jack Daniel's bottle into her flask and took a sip. "Whiskey?", she offered, ignoring how Kurt had paled.
"I…I'm dead?", he repeated anxiously. To be honest, he hadn't imagined death like that.
Just when the woman was about to open her mouth, another voice said sternly: "April, stop scaring him!" At that moment, a middle-aged man entered the room with two women and another guy in tow.
Kurt's eyes widened when he recognized one of the women. "Mrs. Wright?"
Isabelle grimaced. "Now that the secret it out, you can just call me Isabelle, okay?"
Kurt nodded numbly. "So what happened to me?", he wanted to know.
"We fished you out of the sea and saved you from drowning", Holly Holliday explained to him with a wink. "You were lucky, if we've found you a couple of minutes later, you would have been stone-dead. You suffered severe hypothermia and we needed to pump your stomach because of the tons of seawater you swallowed."
Kurt needed to gulp.
"But don't worry, bud, we are not called the Council of Elders without a reason" Sheldon Beiste patted his shoulder amicably. "We watch over our protégés."
"Yes, we can feel it whenever one of you is in danger", Dr. Schue agreed. "Who do you think made sure Harmony showed up with her car in front of the coffeeshop so that she picks you up and helps save you back then?"
Kurt stared at them, aghast. "I…It was you?"
"Guilty as charged", Holly laughed. "Harmony is my niece. I made her forget the powder back then so that she comes back to the coffeeshop. That she and Finn ended up as a couple was not part of the plan, though." She wrinkled her nose in distaste.
"They broke up", Kurt pointed out.
Holly sighed a breath of relief. "That's good. No offence, but I doubt that Finn would have been the right one for my niece."
"Excuse me? As far as I know, your niece was the one who slept with my fiancé that kidnapped and tried to kill me", he scoffed.
"Okay, okay, guys", Dr. Schue said loudly before that discussion could escalate. "Stop it."
Kurt sat up. "I need to tell Blaine and the others I'm fine. They are probably worried sick." When he tried to focus on his link to his friends – it didn't work.
"You won't be successful, kid", Sheldon said apologetically. "We blocked your powers for the time being."
Isabelle held a capsule full of white pills in the air. "These are blockers. As long as those are in your system, you are not able to communicate with your Cluster, that group of people you are linked with."
Kurt's eyes widened. "W…Why did you do this?", he stammered.
"We want to protect you", Isabelle explained softly "If those people that wanted to kill you find out about that you are still alive, who knows what they will do to you."
"They still need to think you died when you fell overboard", Dr. Schue added with a serious face expression. "The less people know about you being alive, the better. That's why we need to keep you here for a while without anyone knowing about it."
"But…"
"If your friends are in the know, they will become targets as well, or worse, those people might find out about them being Sensates", Holly cut him off apologetically. "This is serious, Kurt. This organization is after us for a couple of decades now. We need to stop them as soon as you recovered."
Kurt looked around with a frown. "And where exactly are we? I guess we are not in hospital?"
"That's right", Isabelle smiled with a wink. She walked over to the curtains and opened them.
Kurt needed to gasp for air when he looked out of the window. A school of fish just swam past it, everything outside was aquamarine blue. "What the…?"
"Yup, we are in our very own submarine, 500 feet beneath the surface. So trying to run to your little friends will get a little hard.", April joked and took another sip of her bottle directly. She held out the flask to his direction "I'm sure you want some of the Whiskey now, young man, right?"
Without thinking twice, Kurt accepted the flask and took a big sip as if he could drink away all his bewilderment.
Dr. Schue cleared his head loudly. "As we have said, we need your help, Kurt."
Kurt looked at him, somewhat confused. "And how?"
"We want to put down those people", he explained, walking up and down the room. "They are slowly turning to a threat, and we cannot allow another Sensate gets dragged into this mess, and I'm also talking about your Cluster."
"And what do you have in mind?", Kurt wanted to know.
Holly grinned perfidiously. "Ambush those jerks after having set a trap for them."
"But for that, we need a lure", Sheldon added, and as if on cue, they all looked at Kurt who had narrowed his eyes.
"You cannot be serious, right?", he gasped. "Those people kidnapped and almost drowned me!"
Isabelle patted his shoulder. "Don't worry, we will make sure nothing will happen to you, I promise."
With a deep sigh, Kurt said: "And what am I supposed to do?"
"There is going to be that cocktail party one of the wealthier Sensates organized", Dr. Schue started explaining "And we are sure that this organization is going to be around as well. You will show up and lure those people into our trap, and we are going to take care of the rest."
Kurt nodded slowly. "Alright. And why me?"
"Because your fiancé, Vincent Slatter, is part of that organization", April pointed out. "And he still cares about you, otherwise, those people would have killed you the moment they caught you eavesdropping to their conversation. We could use that to our advantage."
"Okay, I understand.", Kurt sighed. „I'm in. But let's hope your oh-so great plan works."
Dr. Schue just nodded reassuringly. "Don't worry, son, it will. And once all this is over, you can embrace your friends again, I promise."
Yay, Kurt is not dead! As if I would ever kill of a main character after everything they all went through...
Puh-lease, guys, did you have so little trust in me?
