You Were Born To Do This Chpt1

A/U: Hello everyone! God, you're probably thinking "Not another story that you probably won't finish..." Well, you know what, you're probably right. I just decided to do this as the hype of the Mass Effect remaster coming out soon hit me and made me go back and play through all the games again, reminding me how much I love the trilogy. So with that reminder, I decided I would make something with my favorite pairing. Garrus and Fem Shep. Now, this is probably just going to be a mish-mash of cannon events that happened in the games and things that i just think up on the spot. Anyways, if you are interested, please give it a chance as this is a series I'm very passionate about. As always, if you enjoyed reading and you would like to, leave a favourite and review as it helps me so much. Cya all later. (P.S: I had no intention of actually publishing this story, it was just meant to be a thing a did in my spare time. If it sounds a little weird that may be why)

Night…

The low hum of skycars whirring past the window…

The various colorful lights and signs shining their rays through the blinds…

In the corner of the room, a silent body heaved slowly as breaths were drawn in, then let out momentarily after. As it slumbered, visions of… adventure, mystery… terror, all amalgamated together and blurred past causing the body to stir. Breathing became heavy and eyelids began to flutter slightly as bedsheets were gripped onto. Breathing now formed into panting as visions become more intense and… real. Heartbeat began to skyrocket as the episode was getting closer to its climax. Then new images interjected, feelings of love, happiness, looking into bright blue eyes. Just as it calmed, a quick flash of death and pain push the body over the edge and awoke with a scream…

He bolted upright, frantically darting his small dark blue eyes around the room as fear was at an all-time high. Everything was just as he left it, no signs of adventure or anything. He sighed heavily, slowly moving his legs off the bed and resting his feet on the floor, and sitting on the edge of the bed, head in hands as heart rate and breathing started to mellow. He pushed himself up and slowly made it to the bathroom, turning the light on making his eyes strain. He then began to splash cold water over his face, sobering himself up, before taking a look in the mirror. Drops of water ran off the grey faceplates as he stared at himself. The bright blue markings that ran across his face and on the back of his mandibles glistened in the artificial light. He then dried himself and walked out, grabbing something off a nearby table and clipped it to the left side of his head, and turned it on, a low blue glow draped over his left eye as he got near the window and stared outside at the nightlife…

"Just another dream, huh…" The Turian voice said quietly

He stayed up all night, refusing to return to bed as his head tried to make sense of what he had witnessed. After a few hours later and two cups of dextro-amino coffee, it was almost time to start his shift at CSEC. He sighed and made his way over to the next room where his armor hung on the wall. The Turian first slipped on his undersuit before applying the black and blue armor to his body until he was fully covered. He then took his shield module and applied it, making a field generate around him momentarily before becoming invisible. Next, he took his firearm off a nearby shelf and equipped it on his left thigh. Once he had everything he then left his home taking one last look before closing the door and locking it.

The journey to the station isn't far and easily within walking distance. As he walked through the streets he would always be stared at by something or someone, either in admiration or disgust, sometimes hearing whispers too. It's best to just block them out. Without too much hassle this morning he made it in and headed to the faculty room where many other co-workers and fellow CSEC Officers were already chatting amongst themselves. They noticed the other Turian walk in and acknowledged him. "Hey what's up!", "Good to see you man", "Hey how you been?" some said as he walked by, receiving a nod in reply. Some even said his name

"Hey, how you doing Garrus" a fellow officer spoke out

Garrus raised a hand and waved at the officer as he went to pour himself his third coffee of the morning, still contemplating what he saw. Before he could do any of that, however, his commanding officer stepped into the lounge.

"Vakarian, in my office, now" He shouted across to him as he left as quickly as he appeared.

Garrus cursed internally as he set the cup down and frustration filled his mind as he knew why he was getting pulled up. He received more stares as he left the room and made his way to the CO's office. He stepped inside and stood with his claws clasped behind his back.

"Yes Sir?" Garrus began

"Don't 'Yes Sir' me Vakarian. Do you know the amount of shit I'm up in with you trying to continue your 'Spectre Hunt'. Every time you try to dig up something on Saren, it annoys him, the council, and most importantly, me! Because I'm the one that's gotta clean this shit up and apologize to them when things go wrong!"

Normally Garrus bit his tongue and listened to what he was told but when it comes to Saren, all bets are off.

"But Sir" He retaliated "Saren is dirty, I'm sure of it. I just need more time to prove my case to the council and take him down!"

"Garrus I've had just about enough of your bullshit theories and besides, there's nothing we can do anyway if he is dirty, he's a Spectre, untouchable"

Garrus looked off to the side and sighed, almost on the verge of growling

"If I get one more complaint about you, you can kiss your career goodbye… Now get outta here, you're patrolling the lower wards today"

Garrus stayed quiet and saluted, staring at his CO with malice as he left the office.

He made his way down the hall until he was out of earshot and turned to the nearest locker and began to kick it furiously before then headbutting it. He exhaled shakily and rested his fist against the wall

"They just don't get it, no one does" He said to himself quietly "I'm so close, there's gotta be another way"

He stared outside the precinct where the skycars were kept

"I gotta try one more time and get the council's support, they gotta understand what's at stake here"

With that, he made his way outside after unlocking one of the cop cars and started making his way to the upper council chambers.

Garrus sped his way through traffic and parked at the Station nearest the elevator to the council chambers. He left his skycar and headed straight for the elevator. He bypassed security with his high-ranking CSEC clearance and made his way up to the top. He mulled over in his head what he should say, even though he had tried so many times before to get the council to help him only to be shut down. The jaunty elevator music played in the background as the lift made its way to the top. Once there, he exited and was about to make his way up the large sets of stairs when he was stopped.

"Woah, hold on there a minute Vakarian, where do you think you're going?"

Garrus turned around and looked at who was calling him. It was the CO of the council branch of CSEC. Garrus rolled his eyes and sighed.

"Sir, I just need a few more minutes with the council, that's all I need" Garrus said with a hint of desperation

"The council is busy right now, and anyway, what makes you think they wanna deal with your bullshit again?"

Garrus cursed and tapped his two-toed talons on the floor frantically

"I'm so close with this investigation, I just need some support and then I can prove to you that Saren is a traitor!" He exclaimed

"They don't want to talk to you anymore, you've wasted too much of their time for them to be bothered in your wild pyiak chase" The officer sounded fed up

Behind the officer, the elevator doors opened and a trio of humans walked out. Two females and one male from what he could make out but that was all. He turned back to the argument

"Look, if the council doesn't wanna talk to me then I gotta ask you to do it, please, Saren's hiding something! Give me more time. Stall them

"Stall the council? Don't be ridiculous, your investigation is over Garrus" The officer sighed and walked away, mumbling something to himself

Garrus stood in place, stunned for a moment, before looking to his side. He saw the three humans that appeared moments ago were now standing close by, probably listening in on the conversation. Now that they were closer, he could get a good look at them. The female wearing white and red armor was fair-skinned, had dark brown-blackish hair which was tied back, and had brown eyes. The male who wore black armor had short black hair, also fair-skinned and brown eyes too. Standing in front of the two of them was the other female, presumably their captain or commander. Garrus looked into the eyes of the other woman and weirdly, it was as if time began to slow a little bit as he examined her. She seemed to catch his eyes more than the other two did. She had long black hair which fell on her back and shoulders, she had slightly more dark and tanned skin than the others and she also had…. Bright blue eyes. For a moment, his mind flashed back to the dream he had last night, getting lost for a moment before bringing himself back. It was only after fully examining her, he realized who she was.

This was Commander Shepard.

He was standing in front of one of humanity's most famous soldiers. He knew that she would be arriving today after she had an incident report to show to the Council about a confrontation with the Geth at a human colony but he didn't know when they would show up. She was known pretty much throughout the galaxy for her role in the Skyllian Blitz when she rallied the human colonists on Elysium against the slavers and pirates who attacked there in 2176 and single-handedly defended the colony and sealed the breach when Alliance backup arrived. She was a fucking war hero!

Shepard approached Garrus and he came a bit closer to stand in front of her. Being this close to her, he realized how good she looks, not that he had a particular kink for humans.

"Commander Shepard? Garrus Vakarian, I was the officer in charge of the CSEC investigation into Saren" Garrus greeted her

"Sounds like you really want to bring him down" Shepard replied in her rather low tone voice, sounding interested in what was happening like she was having the same problems as him

"I don't trust him, something about him rubs me the wrong way. But he's a Spectre, everything he touches is classified, I can't find any hard evidence" He explained

"I think the council is waiting for us, Commander" The male interjected

The Commander nodded and started to make her way into the council chambers as the other two followed

"Good luck Shepard, maybe they'll listen to you" Garrus waved her off

He watched as she made her way up the steps to talk to the Council. Everything that happened just now just kind of blurred together. What were the chances that he would meet one of humanity's most respected heroes in his time of need who was also on the same path as him. Then his mind switched to her vibrant blue eyes that just stared into your soul and entranced him. They were exactly the same as the ones he saw in his dream. Surely that couldn't be a coincidence. He shook his head, pushing those thoughts out of his mind as he guessed he wouldn't really see her again.

He was brought back to reality when his Omni-tool started flashing frantically as a radio broadcast across CSEC channels.

"To all nearby units, we have a hostage situation underway in the lower wards near the clinic, all available units please respond" the broadcast said

Garrus immediately made his way into the elevator and selected the floor where he left his skycar. He made his way down and unlocked the car, jumping inside and leaving to respond to the situation…

He arrived at the location where the broadcast said the hostage was being held. He jumped out of the car, forgetting to lock the car behind him as he was in full-on cop mode now. He grabbed the M-3 Predator sidearm on his thigh and activated it, running down the set of stairs to the clinic. After composing himself, he made his way inside silently and slowly moved through the medical area. He could hear voices not too far away, three male voices and a female, presumably the hostage. He wanted to try and take them on but he knew he had to wait for backup. He used his time to try and get closer and try and get into an advantageous position. As he got closer, he could see what was going down. There was a female doctor being blocked by two males holding weapons and another who was interrogating her. Garrus couldn't really hear what they were saying. Minutes went by and still no backup, he was beginning to think he was going to have to do this by himself. Just as he was about to intervene, he heard the door open behind him. It was Shepard.

He couldn't believe it, how did she get here so fast? He quickly brushed off that thought and got into position as she saw him moving up and went for her weapon, creating a diversion. The thugs noticed her and drew their firearms also, pointing one to the doctor's head.

"Who are you!?" One of them shouted out

"Let her go, this won't end well for you" She replied, sounding cool and composed

Garrus waited till they were all distracted by Shepard and took his chance, quickly turning around the corner and unloading a fast and clean shot into the one holding the gun against the hostage, killing him instantly. Now the thugs were being attacked from both sides, they cowered back a little bit before returning fire. Garrus got into cover and waited for his opportunity. However, he wouldn't get the chance as Shepard rushed in, quickly putting space between the doctor and the thugs. Once that was done, her body then started to glow a bright purple-blue and the thugs were lifted off the ground swiftly and thrown into a nearby wall, knocking them out instantly. He never knew that she was biotic.

Garrus appeared out of cover, he'd never seen a situation diffused like that so quickly. He made his way over to the doctor, asking if she was ok. Shepard then approached them. They began to talk about what had happened. They found out that the men were linked towards Saren and worked for a man named Fist as they were looking for a Quarian who came by the clinic after being shot by them who had valuable information which was incriminating against Saren. This was great news, this could finally be Garrus' lucky break. Shepard decided to follow this lead

"It's time we paid Fist a visit then" She said, cracking her knuckles

Garrus turned to her "I know that this is your show now Shepard, but I wanna bring that bastard Saren down as much as you do, I'm coming with you" he spouted out

What did he just say? He had no more authority on the Saren case anymore and at this point, he was basically begging for a chance to prove himself right. Shepard stared at him for a moment looking him up and down. As she did that, Garrus felt the same feeling from when he first talked to her, like his chest was closing up and was hard to breathe. It was just hard to take your eyes off her. Along with wanting to take down Saren, there was another reason why he wanted to go with her. He just felt a… connection between him and her. The dream, the way she made him think and feel when he was in her presence, to him she was an eye into a completely new life that he had never seen before, and he didn't know what was going to happen if he did go with her.

He felt for sure that he was going to reject him, knowing that she served on an Alliance ship and probably didn't want any "Aliens" on board like most other humans. He set himself up for defeat until he saw her black lipstick-covered mouth smile.

"Welcome aboard Garrus"
