It was just a normal Sunday in the Parker household. Mr. and Mrs. Parker were on the loveseat watching some T.V their youngest Joshua was running around outside with a bunch of his friends. Their oldest Samantha was upstairs writing essays for her college applications while their middle child Patton was in the kitchen making brownies. Everything was going smoothly till around noon when Mr. and Mrs. Parker heard the mail slot open and close again.
"There is no mail on Sunday what might that be" Mrs. Parker wondered while Mr. Parker got up to go take a look.
"There is no need to worry dear it's probably a fundraiser or a political ad" Mr. Parker replied as he reached down to pick up the letter. He looked at the name on the letter.
"PATTON IT'S FOR YOU" Mr. Parker yelled across the house.
"DON'T YELL ACROSS THE HOUSE HONEY" Mrs. Parker yelled back. Patton walked up to his dad and took the letter when it was handed to him. Patton turned it around and saw a wax seal.
"This is so pretty but who still uses wax seals" Patton asked confused before Mr. Parker got a chance to answer Patton was already tearing it. He took out the letter and read it his face going from confused to excited to confused again.
"Is something wrong son" Mr. Parker asked worriedly. While they were talking Mrs., Parker walked in and saw the letter she gasped then she smiled and started to tear up.
She ran up and hugged Patton while saying "My little guys a wizard oh I never thought I'd see the day". Patton and Mr. Parker looked at each other confused
"Um dear I don't mean to insult you but how could Patton be a wizard magic isn't real" Mr. Parker said carefully thinking maybe his wife just went of the deep end. She ignored him and called Samantha down from upstairs and Joshua from inside. Both of them complained about how they where doing important things Samantha was almost done with an essay and Joshua was about to lay siege to the enemy castle.
"I have the most exciting news" Mrs. Parker said while pausing for dramatic effect "Patton is a wizard" There was a moment of silence while the other members of the family thought about what to do next. Seeing that no one was believing her Mrs. Parker decided it was time to explain things to everyone.
"Alright I guess it is time to explain things to all of you please don't interrupt me" She paused to think about how to start "Magic does exist I was born into a wizarding family but I was born without magic I was something called a squib" She paused once more as if reliving a bad memory "since I was born without magic I couldn't live in the magical world my family cast me out and left me to live on my own" after pausing to take a breath she continued "I thought since I had no magic I couldn't pass it on but it seems that I can because this letter" she held up the letter Patton got "says that he is a wizard and is accepted into Hogwarts a school for young witches and wizards".
"Mom are you being serious magic can't exist it defies the laws of physics" Samantha said in disbelief.
"It is quite real Sam and it is beautiful" she looked at everyone "A teacher with be along in the next week to explain and prove magic far better than I could so keep your questions until then" She smelled the air "Is something burning".
Patton jumped up and exclaimed "MY BROWNIES" before running out of the room. Everyone laughed and left the living room to do their various tasks and think about what their mom/wife just told them.
