"They're talking about giving me an open microphone to forward my storyline tonight." I tell Randy.
"Giving you an open microphone? Sounds like a lot of fun." Randy replies. "Stay relatively PG though."
I roll my eyes. "I will."
"We both know you'll get in trouble if you go too far."
"I know. What are you doing tonight?"
"Nothing in particular, but Kane has a match tonight."
"So you're going to mess with him?"
Randy started laughing. "Perhaps."
"You're just making him more angry."
"His anger will be his downfall, Rissa. I know that."
"If you say so."
"It will be. Trust me. Anyway, is there anything else going on tonight?"
"Not that I'm aware of, why?"
"I was just curious."
Someone knocks on my door. I open it to see Daniel standing across from me.
"What the hell do you want?" I ask.
"You never apologized for spilling that drink on me." Daniel replies. "I'm here to get the apology that I deserve from you."
I roll my eyes before looking back at Randy. "Babe, did Daniel here ever apologize for concussing you intentionally?"
Randy crossed his arms. "Hmm…let me think about it. No, he didn't."
"That's what I thought. So, Dan, you can take that apology that you want and shove it up your ass." I slam the door in Daniel's face.
I shrug as Randy looks at me.
Randy grins. "I think I'm in love."
I look at him. "That one felt good."
"I bet. You are a bitch though."
"To him. I'm rather nice to you."
"Pretty much only to me though. You're a bad bitch, Rissa. I love it."
"Do you now?"
Randy smiled. "I'm not the nicest guy, Rissa. Having a wife who understands that and doesn't put up with bullshit either is amazing."
"I love you, babe."
"I love you too. You're my badass. Make sure you kick some ass tonight."
"I don't even have a match."
"Has that ever stopped you before?"
I smile. "No, it hasn't."
I know I want that girl so bad
I lie awake at night
And think of all the things that I would do
With a girl like that…
"Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the Queen of Chaos, Marissa Orton!"
I walk into the ring and grab a microphone. "WrestleMania 28 is upon us. In just over a week, everyone will have completed the Road to WrestleMania, and it'll be time to perform in front of the crowd and in the bright lights. Getting to compete at WrestleMania is the highest achievement that a professional wrestler can achieve. This year at WrestleMania 28 I'll be teaming up with Kelly Kelly to face Eve Torres and the Divas Champion, Beth Phoenix in a Tag Team match. And quite frankly, I couldn't be happier about it. Kelly is a fantastic partner. Eve and Beth need to get shut up, and I'll be glad to do that."
("Glamazon" plays)
Beth and Eve head towards the ring. I roll my eyes.
Beth smiles. "We need to get shut up? Marissa, you're the one that needs shut up. You're so irritating. We'll be shutting you up, princess."
I laugh. "Princess? Haven't you been paying enough attention to me to know that's not what I'm called, Beth? I go by the Queen of Chaos. But that's not the point here. I'm irritating? Is that because you've always struggled to beat me? And, Eve, we were teammates. We were best friends. I even mentored you. Do you think I don't know how to outsmart you? We've spent a lot of time together over the years."
"You're right. We have spent a lot of time together, Marissa." Eve replies. "Which means I can outsmart you too."
"Eve, there's an expression that applies here between us. I taught you everything you know, but not everything that I know. Actually, I didn't teach you to be such a hoeski. You learned that on your own."
Eve gets red in the face.
I continue. "At WrestleMania, Kelly and I will be putting the two of you in your place. As for after all of that, Beth, I'll be coming back for my Divas Championship next."
My music starts playing as I stare the two down. Beth looks at the Divas Championship before she and Eve head backstage.
I smile at Randy as we arrive at the hotel room. "I think we did good tonight."
Randy nods as he unlocks the door. "We did fantastic. You cut a great promo. I attacked Kane."
I look at him as we enter the hotel room. "Are you alright?"
Randy closes the door behind us. "I'm fine. Why?"
"You just seem a little off."
Randy shook his head. "I'm just a little bit upset about the whole Brock Lesnar thing right now still."
"Oh, alright."
Randy gives me a small smile. "Are you thinking about reading that next letter?"
I sit on the edge of the bed and sigh. "I think I should."
"I saw you get the second box out and pack it."
"I'm not surprised. How many of them have you read? I know I was a little bit ahead of you."
"I've read all twenty-one letters that you have now, Rissa. I'm caught up."
"That's good." I glance towards my bag.
Randy walks over and opens my bag. "I think you need to, so it doesn't keep driving you crazy. The last one was the last birthday before you saw her again. I know you have crazy anticipation about this one."
"Where would I be without you giving me the nudge into doing certain things?"
Randy laughs as he gets out the box. "You probably wouldn't even be a professional wrestler."
I put on my reading glasses. "You're probably right. Aren't I glad you talked me into doing the Diva Search?"
"You should be." Randy opens the box and passes me the letter numbered twenty-two.
Date: July 19, 2004
Dear Marissa, less than three weeks ago, I wrote a letter to you like I have on every single birthday since I left you.
However, just seventeen days later, I felt the need to write again. Tonight, I happened to walk by while Colby was watching WWE. There was this competition for women to compete for a contract on. I believe that it was called the Diva Search. That's when I see a young woman who looks a lot like me on there. I saw your name, and admittedly, I freaked out.
I cannot believe this is where you've ended up. It's not what I expected. I know that I haven't been around for nineteen years, but I worry that this isn't the right path for you.
I also told Colby. He's upset with me right now, but he'll get through it. After that, I want to reach out for real this time.
Love, Mom
I just sat with a blank face. One of my big issues with her had been how quick she had gone to criticizing my job. Randy took the letter from me and set it on the nightstand.
He pulled me close. "It'll be alright, babe."
I sigh. "I hope so."
