Filling in the Gaps

Eleniel: 15

Glorfindel looked up as the door to his office opened and Eleniel rushed in, quickly shutting it behind her. He was sat at his desk, sorting through a pile of documents. Unfortunately, with the turn of summer came the onset of a lot of paperwork… mostly from traders and the like, but he also dealt with any problems the elves of Rivendell had, as well as just ordinary, everyday paper-work. He'd been engrossed in the pieces of parchment for so long that his heart almost jumped out of his throat as the door to his office opened wildly and a flurry of blonde hair bounced in.

Leaning back against his seat, he heaved a sigh as Eleniel stopped in front of his desk. "Do we not knock anymore?" he asked with a raise of an eyebrow.

Eleniel shook her head, apparently unfazed by the warrior's slight warning tone. "Not today! I need your help."

"With what?"

"Just… something."

Glorfindel looked at the elleth quizzically for a moment before he blinked and sat forward. "I'm no expert," he said, "but I'm almost certain that, in order for me to help you, I must know what it is I'm helping with."

Eleniel rolled her eyes. "I'm getting there."

"Take your time. I'm in no rush to complete this very important paperwork." He sat back yet again and crossed his arms over his chest.

"Thank you, Fin," she said, either having not caught onto the sarcasm – which was highly unlikely – or simply not caring to act on it. She stood straight and heaved a sigh. "I need your help."

"As you've said."

"Well… I was out walking in the woods with Miluiel, and we came across… something…"

Glorfindel narrowed his eyes the smallest amount. "Mhm."

The elleth paused for a moment, making a face as she apparently figured out what she was going to say next. For his credit, the blond was being remarkably patient. Not that he usually wasn't, but his mood had significantly spiralled downwards the moment he'd woken up to a stack of parchment on his desk that morning. "You know how I've always wanted a dog?" Eleniel suddenly blurt out, and Glorfindel blinked.

"If there is currently a dog in this house, your adar will kill you."

"There isn't a dog…"

The warrior shook his head and crossed his arms on the desk. "Enlighten me." It was at this that Eleniel began to nervously wring her hands together and bite her lip – an anxious habit she'd always had that her family discouraged after dealing with many a bleeding lip. "Teeth away from lip," he told her, unable to suppress a smile when she immediately let go. There was a great deal of amusement to be felt here, despite what was happening. After all, it wasn't often they were put in situations like these. Situations which were a lot more… serious than usual… if this was at all serious. He had yet to find out.

Eleniel apparently decided to just get on with it, for her next words came quite abruptly. "Mil and I heard something whining by a tree on our walk, so we went to see what it was… and, um, there was a little animal… quite similar to a dog… probably more dangerous… but it's only a baby, meaning it's not dangerous, and it was injured and bleeding so we weren't exactly sure what to do, but…" She sighed, and Glorfindel, who'd been listening intently, almost groaned. He was beginning to fill in the gaps, here.

"El, tell me there isn't a wolf pup here somewhere."

The elleth grimaced. "In my room."

There was a loud noise as Glorfindel's head came crashing down face-first on the desk.
