Chapter 4. Eye to eye.
After Lincoln was dropped off at the Middle School he met his five best friends Clyde, Liam, Zach, Rusty, and Stella who were waiting for him. By this time Lincoln already told his friends about the divorce his parents are going through. Even though Lori was uncomfortable discussing her family's personal problems with her friends. Lincoln on the other hand needed someone to talk to a support group as Dr. Lopez told Clyde.
"Hey Lincoln! How's it going?" Clyde asked knowing full on what his best friend is going through.
"We'll I'm still hanging in there. I know it been rough and all with the divorce. Turns out that my sister Luan is giving up comedy." Lincoln explained
Knowing the kind of person Luan was like Lincoln's five friends couldn't decide if it was a good thing or a bad thing. Sure every April Fool's Day will be much, much more peaceful and quiet, Bad puns which would make anyone groaned in annoyance won't be said anymore, yet at the same time Comedy was her life's work. Lincoln's friends knew just as much as Lincoln did that she put her heart in her jokes and pranks. For her to give up her life's work because of the family situation left them with mixed feelings for her.
"So um does Luan have anything planed outside of comedy?" Stella asked
"I don't know Stella. I just don't know." Lincoln replied
As the six were walking to the playground a voice called out from behind.
"LINCOLN! HEY LINCOLN!"
The six turned around and sure enough was it was Chandler McCann. The school yard bully who caused Lincoln and his friends so much pain. At first Lincoln and the rest thought he was going to target them in some way. What Chandler said next took the group completely off guard.
"Lincoln Look, I know about the divorce your parents are going through. I know in past we haven't been on friendly grounds, but I want you to know the only reason I treated you like that was because I was jealous of you."
Lincoln looked at Chandler with a very puzzled expression. "Jealous?" he asked
"My parents divorced back when I was eight years old. All throughout that duration I was Jealous of the large family you had. Your parents being together as my parents being separate. Not only that but also you sisters who all look after you. I actually met one of them in person and let me tell you. I can see why you talk a lot about them." Chandler explained.
Lincoln did have somewhat mix feelings about this. True a part of him did feel sorry for Chandler, even though because of the bulling he put Lincoln though in the past another part of him didn't trust him, but Lincoln could tell that he was sorry and he wanted to make up for his past behavior.
"Look Lincoln if there is anything I can do to make it up to you…Wait!" Chandler stated as he ran to his locker, opened it, took something out then he ran back to the six holding a backpack in his hands. Lincoln took one good long look at it and realized it the Rip Hardcore Backpack, The same Rip Hardcore Backpack Luna gave him for Christmas, and whom Lincoln traded with Chandler to get Earrings for Lola. Chandler handed it over to him and said. "Here, I knew all along this belonged to you. After taking it for a test flight it was still in its original rapping's It still had the label (To: Lincoln From: Luna) on it."
Lincoln was speechless. For a kid who would bully him all through the fourth-fifth and into the sixth grade. A kid who would demand free stuff from "Gus's Game and Grub." Just so Lincoln can get an invitation to his birthday party. Were Lori work in order to get a dress for a date with her boyfriend Bobby at the time. A date that was almost ruined because her boss was going to make her work overtime for the free stuff, until Lincoln stepped in and take over her shift for her missing out on the Party. Lincoln though Chandler would never change. For Lincoln to see him behave in a remorseful manner, someone who wants to atone for his mistakes was completely unexpected.
"Wow… Chandler… Thanks!" Lincoln said with both surprise and gratitude. That day Chandler and Lincoln who were once enemies, became friends.
As Chandler was atoning for his past life at Royal Woods Middle school. Meanwhile at Royal Woods High. Luna Loud was with her band mate. Her girlfriend Sam Sharp, Ruth (Mazy) Greenwood, and Gorge (Sully) Sullivan. Each of her band mates knew of the divorce Luna was going through.
The group was silent until Mazy spoke out. "You know Lunes I was thinking about the divorce your parents are going through."
"Mazy I'm really not in the mood…" Luna started to say but Mazy cut her off.
"No! Let me continue. You're not the only one whose parents went through a divorce." Mazy explained.
Luna, Sam, and Sully all looked at Mazy with surprised looks. Luna looked a bit agitated. Even though she knew Mazzy was not the kind of person to joke about something as serious as a divorce in the family. A part of her still felt that she was doing just that. However Luna did maintain her cool to listen to what she had to say.
"You do know I'm not from Michigan. In fact I was born in and spent the first five years of my life in Mississippi." Mazy started to say.
"Was it your parents' divorce the reason you've moved up here?" Sam asked
Mazy cleared her throat as she continued. "My mother was an alcoholic. Not the funny drunken lush kind, the always angry, abusive, and hurtful kind. The only memories I have of her were those of her yelling and cursing. Even one of her throwing something at the door as my father walked out. So as soon as my dad said he found a new job and was moving up to Michigan state I've joined him without another thought."
Luna looked at Mazy, She could tell that her story was true, and that she meant every word of it. Even though Luna's parents weren't alcoholics the weeks leading up to the divorce were just as scary for her as they were for Mazy.
"So, um what happened to your mother?" Luna asked.
"She died two years ago. Complications due to Cirrhosis of the liver." Mazy said in a gloom tone.
Luna, Sam, and Sully all looked at Mazy with shocked expressions. To say they didn't feel sorry for her would be a lie, but the three were still concerned for her just like any other friend who went through bad times.
"So, after she died, did they have a funeral for her?" Sully asked
"It didn't matter. There was no way I was going back to that state even if it was for a funeral. I wanted to stay far away from that life as I possibly can." Mazy said with a broken voice almost like she was on the verge of tears.
Luna really did feel sorry for Mazy. Even though her parents were going through a divorce it was nothing like what she went through as a child. Luna wanted to know that she was there for her and if she needed any help she can count on her.
"Maze" Luna started as she placed a hand on her shoulder. "I want you if you're going through a time or you need someone to talk to. I want you to know I'm always going to be here for you."
The rest of the band said similar things to her. Knowing what their members are going through. Luna's parents' divorce was nothing compared to what Mazy went through as a child.
Luna did try to maintain a close relationship with all of her band mates. Her romans with Sam began back when a one of her siblings started receiving love letter's marked for L. Loud. At first no one knew what this meant so they started sending out love letters to whoever they thought it was. Eventually they all learned that the letters were all from their mother Rita and she wrote them for their father. The closes time Luna and Sam had together was with the Royal Woods Mystery Quest. She team up with Sam to see what they had in common. Unfortunate for the both of them it didn't get well. Sam was not into Lasers or Dancing, Luna was not into farm animals and Rock Claiming, or boating. She Also was not a fan of kale smoothies. Luna thought back to how happy her parents were together before they started fighting. She also thought about how much they changed and how it all lead to a divorce. Now she took comfort in knowing that one of her friends went through the same thing she and her family are going through right now.
Meanwhile in the Gymnasium were basketball try outs were going on. Lynn was with her sporting friends. Paula Price who now had her arm in a cast but her leg did healed, and Margo Roberts, as they were lining up for basketball tryouts.
"This Is It, We're Going All Out This Year!" Lynn shouted with excitement
"Yah, We got a new coach this year. Said to be better than the old one." Margo said
"Hey Lynn, remember when we've played on Flips team back in the day?" Paula asked
"Yah, But those were our thirteen year old days, way behind us now. We're Fifteen now Paula! Get With The Times" Lynn said with enthusiasm.
"Remember back when we played softball last year?" Margo asked
"Oh Yah Um, what ever happened to Liam The Cow Pie Kid?" Paula asked
"That pitcher won a lot of games for us." Margo explained.
"Oh yah um Actually Liam was Lincolns friend." Lynn explained.
"Lincoln, Your brother with the white hair?" Paula asked
"You know Lynn Your Brother use to come to all your sporting events in the past what happened to him?" Margo asked
At that moment Lynn's face fell and she let out a heavy sigh. The thoughts and the memories of the whole "Bad Luck" played back in her mind. After she lost a softball game, a game Lincoln didn't even want to go to but went because she threatened him with a baseball bat. After convincing the entire family that he was "Bad Luck" Resulting in him getting kicked out of the house, losing all of his furniture and having his room boarded up. Lynn Thought back to those days when Lincoln suffered. Even though he did forgive them after the incident that happened three years ago, it still haunted her knowing how much her only brother suffered because her Luck superstition's.
One year later her superstition ruined Lincoln's life yet again, Not nearly as bad as the "Bad Luck" incident. But after getting tickets to the Jellyfish Hockey Game. She brought Lincoln, Luan and her father along to the game. Now most people prefer mustered on a hot dog, and powder sugar on a funnel cake. But because of Lynn's superstitions she gave her brother a funnel cake with mustered. That and after half time forcing her brother into wearing the same oversize sweaty, smelly, Hockey jersey that has not been washed in years she was in. She through it over her brother and before long Lynn sr. and Luan were also in it. Despite after Lynn giving her father, Luan, and Lincoln a Dutch Oven while then four were in the same jersey together saying it was good luck for the team. Lincoln may be the kind of kid who enjoys peanut butter and sour croute sandwiches, but mustered on a funnel cake did not agree with him, That and of cause having to breath in his sisters farts in an oversize unwashed jersey together. Because shortly after getting home from the game Lincoln stepped out of vanzilla and threw-up in the drive way. Finally Lola was outside playing and when she saw him she called out. "MOM! Lincoln Puked In The Drive Way!"
Being the only brother she had Lynn really did Love Lincoln, but her way of showing it was anything but settle. Wrestling with him, Giving him Dutch Oven's, Even pulling his pants down in public. Lincoln was not he kind of kid who enjoyed roughhousing, but roughhousing was all Lynn Jr. knew. Looking back she seen how much her brother suffered. How he never wanted to wrestle with her. How he never wanted to breathe in her farts. The more she thought of how she treated her brother the more she regretted being so rough to him. There was a time back when they were younger when Lincoln and Lynn were very close, the two would play together, do activity's together and have a close brother sister bond together, But as time went on the two grew apart. Lynn became a more ruff n tumble person, while Lincoln was not as much. She still felt bad for all the times her brother suffered because of her actions and superstitions.
After a while and all these thoughts rushed through Lynn's head. The coach then came in and began to evaluate the players for the tryouts. Even though Lynn gave it her one hundred percent just like she does in every sports tryouts and game. Even though she did make the team as well as all of her other team friends. She felt less excited and more depressed. She retreated her actions. She thought of all the times she ran her brother into the ground, calling him Stinkcoln, and just being plan mean to him. She knew she was not one of his closest sisters. If anything she felt like she was a horrible sister. After all the things she did to Lincoln that made him suffer.
Later on at lunch time at Royal Woods High in the cafeteria. Luan was with her boyfriend Benny, and her best friends Alice, and Parvana. As the four gathered around. Luan looked down at her food tray, just staring down with a sad empty expression. Everyone could tell that something was bothering Luan. By this time they all knew of her parents' divorce. She even closed down 'Funny Business' indefinable. The three wanted to know how she was doing
"So Um, Luan…You've closed down funny business." Benny said
"So." Luan said
"You haven't cracked a joke or pulled a prank on anyone in weeks. Does it has anything to do with the divorce?" Parvana asked
"What! You Think I'm Some Joke Machine Here For Your Amusement!?" Luan shouted in a Moody tone. "I Don't Even Live In the Same House I Grew Up In Anymore. My Mother Lives there with my Grandfather, Step-Grandmother, and three of my younger sisters. My father Lives in a run down apartment with two of my younger sisters. I live in a farm house with the rest of my siblings because both my parents are fighting over the only House We Grew Up In. I'm Sorry to Disappoint You but There Is Nothing Funny about My Life! There Is Nothing Funny About My Family! Why Should I even Bother?" Luan shout out fighting back tears.
"Luan, You told us yourself that laughter was the best medicine. You use to make people who were down in the worst stages of depression laugh. It was a gift It was your gift." Benny trying to explain.
Irritated and agitated Luan jumped from her seat and ran off to the rest rooms. Alice, Parvana, and Benny were all at a loss for words. They knew they crossed the line when they told Luan about her past. The three also felt real sorry for their friend for how the divorce is effecting her. Luan Loud was the queen of pranks. The Queen of comedy, but now that her family is divided she saw nothing funny about life. She could only think about her parents who were once together as a family now separate and fighting over property. A part of her blamed herself for all the situation her family is going through. Every April Fool's Day she'd rig the house with prank traps, some harmless, some deadly. The one April Fool's Day were she convinced her dad to buy out land just so she can build a motel and give her family a night of horror in pranking in the fake motel. The April Fools Day were she hired stunt actors who looked like her family just to publicly embarrass them around town. The rest of the family did get back at her for that time and loaded all of her belongings on a van that left town and she literally ran out of town trying to get them. Every time Luan thought about her actions and her pranks She believes she is the reason her parents are getting divorced. She blames herself for it, she blames her jokes her pranks. Luan Locked herself in a stall in the girls room and she thought to herself.
"I Hate Jokes!"
"I Hate Pranks!"
I Hate Myself!"
She broke down and wept in the stall of the girl's restroom.
As the day came to an end the four Loud siblings were getting ready to head back home. Like always Lynn made the basketball team. Even though it was a somewhat bittersweet moment with the past memories of how she treated Lincoln weighing heavily on her mind. Luna and her band mates did have a great practices at Lunch hour. With both Mazy and Luna sharing their past lives and struggles both of which involving their parents' divorce. Luan spent the rest of the day quiet without making a sound. After seeing how their parents' divorce was effecting her Benny and the rest of Luan's friends did worry about her and felt sorry for her.
As for Lincoln and his friends, they were all taken by Chandler and how he changed. He went from bulling Lincoln to being in the same group with Clyde, Liam, Zach, Rusty, and Stella. On top of all that he even got his Rip Hardcore Backpack he wanted so badly for Christmas last year back from Chandler.
As Luna pulled up in Vanzillia to pick up Lincoln she noticed him with the Rip Hardcore Backpack she got him for Christmas and ask. "Hey Bro. is that the backpack I got you for Christmas a while back?"
"Yep! I still enjoy it." Lincoln said
As Lincoln got in the back seat he noticed Lynn was sitting next to him. She looked happy but not overexcited as she did whenever she makes a team. Luan was seated up front next to Luna, she just sunk low in her seat with a frown and said nothing.
"So Lynn did you make the team?" Lincoln asked
"I sure did Bro. Maybe you can come and watch me practice if you want?" Lynn said
"Thanks I might make a game if I'm not too busy. So how are things going for your Luna?" Lincoln said
"I'm Doing alright Bro. Can't complain." Luna said.
This day was very eventful for the four Loud siblings. As the four drove the hour and half drive back to their new home on 2727 Rock Road. The four had a lot going through their minds over what happened during the day.
