Just after five Teddy was looking through Annie's hair stuff. She hadn't brought a curling iron and was looking for Annie's.

Teddy texted, "where's your curling iron?"

"Don't use one ever," Annie replied, "I either leave the curls or straighten it. Straightener is in the top bathroom drawer."

"I have a date," Teddy texted, "I always curl it."

"Date with who," Annie asked.

"Owen," Teddy replied.

"It's just Owen," Annie said, "leave your hair. I thought you talked this morning?"

"We did," Teddy said, "we're working things out. That means dating. It's our first real date."

"Use the straightener," Annie replied, "has he ever seen it totally straight?"

"Not for years," Teddy replied.

"And help yourself to my closet for date outfits," Annie replied.

"You're smaller than me," Teddy replied, "but thanks. I may borrow shoes though."

"There's a couple dresses that I need to get hemmed," Annie replied.

"I'm fine sweetheart," Teddy replied, "I went shopping after visiting Meghan."

"Have fun, look hot and tell me later," Annie replied.

"It's just Owen," Teddy said.

"Leave the straightener out," Annie replied, "Josh and I are going out tonight when we're both finished. I'm off at 6, he's done at 8."

"That's late," Teddy said.

"Drinks and dancing," Annie replied, "meeting Jenna and Duncan."

"Have fun," Teddy said, "I'll see you at home."

Teddy finished getting ready. She zipped up the blue dress that showed off her shoulders and collar bone, knowing how much Owen had loved that part of her body in Germany. The dress hugged her chest and ribs then floated into a high waisted skirt that hid the tiny whisper of a baby bump. Her hair hung in a straight glossy sheet down her back, the long straight hair was more Annie's look but it would have to do. She had been meticulous with her makeup going full out, her eyes popped and she knew he would notice. Not having date shoes she was thankful that Annie had the same sized feet and borrowed a pair of tall silver heels. Looking at the shoe collection there were several pairs she wanted to borrow from Annie.

Teddy looked at the clock, she had 10 minutes until Owen picked her up. She didn't know why but she was nervous. This wasn't an ordinary first date, it felt bigger. She knew Owen had been the one for years and that morning had only confirmed what she had realized in Germany.

Her phone buzzed with a text it was Christina, "headed to your part of Germany to lecture at a hospital. Want to meet for dinner and drinks?"

Teddy replied, "in Seattle. I won't be coming back to Germany other than to pack up my things. It's time for me to go home."

"Where will you work," asked Christina.

"Grey Sloan or Seattle Pres." Teddy replied, "I have interviews at both. See who makes the better offer. Would prefer GS Annie is an intern there."

Christina asked, "why are you leaving medcom. Is there a problem?"

"It's time to be home with my family. No more running," Teddy replied.

"You want to teach your daughter," Christina asked, "just bring her on an exchange to Germany in a couple years and let Webber and Bailey get her started. I'll even throw in a fellowship with me."

Teddy typed, "she's debating cardio or trauma. Leaving her here unless she wants something different. There's a person and a man. The man is living with her in my house."

"Thing one finally dates," asked Christina.

"Josh Riggs, Nathan's nephew," Teddy replied, "best friends in med school. Got the same residency and things happened. She's happy. I'll text you soon. I have plans tonight."

Owen knocked on the door. He was nervous but didn't know why. This was Teddy. He had known her and loved her for years. This was his person and she was having his baby. The one who giggled after the first time they slept together and curled up in his arms watching the snowfall or waves against the shore.

Teddy opened the door.

"You look amazing," Owen said. He had seen Teddy dressed for a date over the years but never for him. She was gorgeous.

"Thank you," Teddy said shyly, "you look good two."

He hugged Teddy. He wanted to kiss her but knew it was too early in their date for that.

"Are you ready to go," Owen asked.

"I am," Teddy replied. She stepped into the shoes she had placed by the door. Drawing Owens attention to her long legs.

"Shall we," Owen asked, offering her his hand.

"Let's go," Teddy agreed.

He led her to his truck and opened the door for her helping her in.

As they drove Teddy thought that this felt natural and right. With Owen things were meant to be. They chatted about random things and reminisced as they drove.

Over dinner Teddy asked, "Do you think our little squirrel is a boy or girl?"

Owen smiled, "I don't know yet. I have to get to know them. Do you have an idea?"

"I think maybe a boy," Teddy said, "it feels so different than Annie did. Or it's age and not being a panicked kid."

Owen smiles, "I don't know but it's ours. Are you sure you want to stay in Seattle?"

Teddy nodded, "I do. No more running. And I think Meghan would kill me if I went back now."

"Meghan doesn't know about the baby yet," Owen said, "but mom told her I went to see you and spent the weekend. Meghan put it together that we slept together."

"She's always been observant," Teddy agreed.

"She was trying to get the information out of Annie," Owen said, "she knows we're hiding something."

"I heard my daughter is stubborn," Teddy laughed, "Meghan asked a question she didn't want to answer Annie asked about her son."

"Annie can talk to her," Owen said.

"She will when she's ready," Teddy replied, "you know how long she takes to warm up to people."

"She bonded with Jenna Silverstone fast enough," Owen said, "they have this whole rainbows and unicorns thing going on. Someone called them the sunshine twins the other day."

"As long as she's happy I'm okay with that," Teddy said.

Owen nodded.

"You can have a drink if you want Owen," Teddy said, "just because I can't doesn't mean you can't."

"I'm happy not to," Owen said, "it's not enjoyable when you can't."

"It's fine," Teddy said, "yes I wouldn't mind the odd glass but it's only a few months."

"Teddy I'm not going to drink around you until you can have one two," Owen replied.

They continued light hearted chatting and laughing Teddy couldn't remember the last time she felt like this. If she had ever felt like this. After dinner they slowly strolled down the street, holding hands.

At her door Teddy suggested, "why don't you come in for a bit."

"Teddy are you sure," Owen asked.

"Of course I am," Teddy replied, "I wouldn't ask if I wasn't."

They both left their shoes by the door and made their way to the couch. Teddy grabbed one of the blankets Annie kept in a basket by the couch and wrapped it around herself as she sat down.

"Cold," Owen asked.

"A little," Teddy said.

"I'll warm you up," Owen said.

Teddy giggled, "isn't that what created this?" She curled against him and placed his hand on her stomach.

Owen chuckled and pulled Teddy closer to him.

Around two am Annie and Josh came home to find them curled up on the couch. Owen and Teddy were both asleep.

"Is that your mother and dr hunt," asked Jenna.

"Yep," Annie replied.

"Are they together," asked Josh.

"I don't know," replied Annie.

"I was going to crash on your couch," Jenna said, "I'll call a cab."

"I know. I thought she'd be in bed," Annie whispered, "sorry."

"Since when has your mama been with dr hunt," Josh asked.

"They've been friends as long as I've known her," Annie said, "she hates sleeping on the couch. I think I'll try to wake one of them."

Annie tiptoed over to the couch and gently tapped Owen on the shoulder, "hi. Just wanted to let you know we're home."

Owen woke up instantly, "we fell asleep I'm so sorry."

Annie nodded, "she'll be miserable if she sleeps on the couch all night."

"I think I can carry her to bed without waking her up then I'll go," Owen whispered.

"Stay," Annie said, "she'll be upset if you disappear. Mama hates when people disappear."

Owen moved to get up trying not to wake Teddy.

"Owen," Teddy whispered, "what's happening?"

"We fell asleep on the couch," Owen whispered, "I'm going to carry you to bed. The kids are home."

Teddy whispered, "stay with me."

"I will," Owen replied as he scooped her off the couch. He carried her into Annie's old room and closed the door.

Josh whispered, "he's staying?"

"I guess," Annie replied, "it's her house we can't say anything."

"Your mother and hunt," Jenna asked.

"Best friends for years," Annie replied.

"That doesn't look like friends," Jenna pointed out, "not the way he was holding her or carrying her."

"It's mama and uncle Owen," Annie said, "they confuse everybody. They should be together."

"Uncle Owen," Jenna asked.

"Her idea when I was 19 and he came to Cloverdale with her because I had been attacked and was in the ICU after trauma surgery," Annie explained, "he's the closest thing she has to family. Her parents are gone and she was an only child. Really I'm all she has."

"There's something more going on," Jenna said, "they were too cozy. He's usually so by the rules and harsh. He dragged you off on some secret mission the other day for hours."

"His sister the VIP paitent," Annie replied, "her and mama were really close. He thought I was the best fit for the job he wanted a resident but Bailey made him choose an intern. I was happy to go and finally meet Meghan."

"He's cold and harsh," Jenna said.

"At work," Annie replied, "not at home."

Jenna shook her head, "sure Altman you can make the uptight trauma surgeon lighten up."

"You're still crashing here," Annie asked.

"I'll wait for Uber," Jenna replied , "don't need to deal with your mom and hunt in the morning. I feel bad for you two."

"She doesn't care," Annie replied, "she knows Josh lives here. I texted her that you might crash here."

"She does but hunt," Jenna said, "I don't want to deal with that."

Annie rolled her eyes, "suit yourself."

When Jenna left Annie walked into the room she shared with Josh.

"You know something about your mama and hunt," Josh said.

"I know they had a real date tonight," Annie replied, "and she borrowed the shoes I wanted to wear."

"Annie you know something," Josh said, "the way he carried her and she cuddled into him there's something more."

"I can't talk about it," Annie replied.

"I know your mama she's usually so independent what's going on is she okay," Josh asked.

"She's fine," Annie replied, "there's only two or three people she lets her guard down around. Me, Owen and Evelyn. She loves him always has probably always will. And now maybe they have a chance. But I can't say anymore."

"Do we have to have breakfast with them," Josh asked.

"We're off and I'm sleeping in," Annie said, "so that's a firm not happening."

"You don't sleep in," Josh said.

"I'm tired and tipsy," Annie laughed, "I need to sleep this off. And I don't want to deal with mama, Owen and their issues hung over."

"Issues," Josh questioned.

"She wants to be more than friends," Annie whispered.

"They looked like it," Josh said, "you do the same thing when we watch a movie."

"What do I do," Annie asked.

"Fall asleep on me," Josh replied, "you do that most nights actually fall asleep like that. It's pretty cute."

Annie got ready for bed and turned off the light.

In the morning Teddy crept out of bed careful not to wake Owen. She saw her dress draped over the dresser , she had been so tired the night before Owen had helped her out of her dress and into her pajamas. His pants and dress shirt were folded beside her dress and his tie had fallen on the floor. She found a hair tie on the nightstand and pulled her hair into a ponytail. That was one thing about living with Annie, the girl seemed to shed hair ties and bobby-pins everywhere in the house. She stepped out of the room and closed the door softly behind her. She saw it was nearly nine am, after brushing her teeth she decided to make breakfast.

Annie who had never slept much tiptoed into the kitchen.

"How was your night," Annie asked.

"It was good," Teddy said, "breakfast?"

"no Josh isn't awake yet," Annie said, "did Owen stay over?"

"He did," Teddy said, "is that okay?"

"Fine with me," Annie said, "I just don't want to see or hear anything."

"Same with you and Josh then," Teddy said.

"I'm not the one who passed out on the couch with my boyfriend," Annie teased.

Teddy laughed, "I'm old and pregnant sweetheart. I get tired."

"Nice excuse," Annie teased, "what's Owens?"

Teddy laughed, "old age."

"What did Owen say about the baby," Annie asked.

"He's excited and happy he wants to be there for everything," Teddy said, "he suggested we find a place together. I need somewhere for the baby and his place is only one bedroom."

"Josh and I can find something," Annie offered.

"I don't want to live here with Owen. This was my home with you and Henry," Teddy said, "I promised you that you would always have a place here."

"I'm not the same kid that needed that reassurance," Annie said, "I understand. It's time for you to be happy and for you that means Owen. You need somewhere to live."

Teddy nodded, "I do. Before Owen wakes up is there a pair of sweatpants I could steal from Josh?"

"I'll grab sweats and a T-shirt," Annie replied. She walked into her bedroom.

"Mama's up and making breakfast," Annie told josh.

"What about hunt," Josh asked.

"Still asleep apparently," Annie replied, "mama asked if he could borrow some sweats. But it's up to you."

"It's sweats," Josh said, "just get them from the dresser. And so much for our lazy morning."

"I know," Annie said, "I was going to make coffee and heat the cinnamon buns so we could have them in bed then we were going to catch up on game of thrones."

"We can still watch game of thrones," Josh said.

"With coffee in bed," Annie said, "mama saw me that's not going to happen now."

"We can watch later," Josh said, "what else do we need to do today?"

"Grocery shopping and meal prep for the next set," Annie said, "anything you want me to make?"

"That chilli you made a couple weeks ago," Josh suggested.

"That was easy," Annie said, "I'll do that one. And see if mama wants anything on the menu while she's here."

Annie walked out of the room with the sweatpants and T-shirt she put them on the counter beside Teddy.

"I can't believe I'm doing this," Annie said rolling her eyes.

"Pay back," Teddy said, "for me going to throw laundry in the hamper and finding your boyfriend's boxers."

"You know we were dating," Annie said.

"Dating and living in my house," Teddy said, "you said nothing about the new sleeping arrangement."

"Wasn't necessary information. I didn't think you would care that Josh moved into my room," Annie said.

"I don't. I just thought you would tell me," Teddy said, "sorry about last night."

Annie said, "I expected it to happen someday. But it's not just Josh and I who saw last night. Jenna was going to crash on the couch. She took Uber home instead."

"Jenna who works with you," Teddy asked.

"Yep," Annie replied, "she didn't think Owen had a soft side so that was good, he's usually dr grumpy pants with us interns. You looked pretty cozy with him last night. What happened?"

"We were literally cuddling and talking and I must have fallen asleep first. I thought I was dreaming that he helped me with my pajamas and into bed," Teddy said.

"Sure," Annie said, "and you just slept last night."

"We cuddled," Teddy admitted, "but I'm going to bring Owen the clothes."

"You're avoiding this," Annie teased.

"I'm taking Owen the clothes then making all of us breakfast," Teddy said.

"Don't make us breakfast," Annie said, "our plan was coffee and cinnamon buns in bed and catching up on game of thrones."

"That's your big plan for your day off," asked Teddy.

"Grocery shopping after and a walk," Annie replied, "I've done 10 days in a row. We just need to relax. Have fun with Owen. "

Teddy walked away and Annie poured two mugs of coffee, and got the cinnamon buns from the bakery box on the counter. She took her and Josh's treat into their room.
