Teddy was having a strange dream, well she thought it was a dream. It reminded her of one she had had a few years before the first time Annie came down to visit and scrub in.

"Teddy Bear," called Jane Altman.

"Mommy," Teddy asked.

"Mommy," Jane laughed, "you're all grown up now bear. With two beautiful girls."

Teddy smiled, "Annie and Allison. You were right years ago mom. Annie came to me when she was ready. You'd love her; she's got so much of you in her."

Jane nodded, "I see your girls. I watch over Annie and little Allison. I'm so happy for you sweetheart. You finally let Owen love you. That man loved you all those years and you were both too stubborn to see it."

Teddy beamed, "I love him. More than I thought I could love anyone except the girls."

"Your family isn't done yet," Jane advised.

"We're talking about adopting," Teddy said.

"I know sweetheart. I know everything that you do," Jane said, "however the changes happen Bear be open to them. You can do this with Owen by your side. He will be with you every step of the way."

"Mommy how do I get Annie to fully trust me," Teddy asked.

"She's still fighting her own battle, Teddy Bear. There's no one that girl trusts more than you or Josh," Jane said, "you did well with her. And Allison is going to be amazing. They're going to become quite the team one day."

Teddy asked, "is daddy there with you?"

Jane nodded, "do you want to see him Teddy Bear?"

Teddy nodded. A man slowly came into view.

"Daddy," Teddy called.

"Bear," Robert replied, "I wish I could hug you baby girl."

"Not a baby anymore daddy," Teddy laughed.

"No but you have a beautiful one now," Robert praises, "I always wanted you to find a man like Owen. He's good for you. What have you been doing Bear?"

"Working, spending time with Owen and my girls," Teddy said.

"I saw that," Robert said, "you and little bear are going to be quite the team."

"You'd love her dad," Teddy said, "she reads like you did."

"I know," Robert replied, "I've been watching my girls. Between your mom and I we always know what the three of you are doing."

"I still love you and miss you," whispered Teddy, "I wish you had met Owen and could hold Allison and hug Annie."

"We know them all sweetheart," Jane said.

"We're proud of you bear," Robert said, "and we're always with you. But your alarm is about to go."

"Wait," Teddy cried, "just one hug please."

"We can't touch you sweetheart," Jane said, "we're just a Dream. I love you baby girl."

"I love you mommy," Teddy cried.

"I'm always with you, bear love you," Robert whispered.

"Love you two daddy," Teddy cried.

The two figures faded as the alarm rang. Teddy woke to a wet pillow and snuggled closer to Owen.

"Hey why are you crying," Owen asked.

Teddy began to sob, "I dreamed of my parents. I miss them Owen. I miss them. I want them to know you and cuddle Allison and hug Annie."

Owen held her close and stroked her hair, "I know. I wish my dad was here for all of this."

Teddy kept crying, "they talked to me. Owen, they said they know you and know the girls."

"Sometimes when I go for a run in the woods my moms I hear my dad's voice," Owen said, "he's been gone since I was 9 but it's him running with me."

Teddy snuggled closer to Owen, "I didn't realize how much I missed them until we had Allison. There's so many times I've wanted my mom. I wished she was there to tell me it was okay and she would be happy and healthy. When I was trying to figure out how to be a mom and care for Allison I needed my mom. I felt inadequate asking your mom for help. But I didn't know how to care for Allison and you don't tell your mother in law that. There were so many days I needed my mom to tell me I was doing okay and a good mom. But she wasn't there. Then I see her in both the girls eyes and Annie's smile. There's still days I hear Annie laugh and think it's my mom. "

Owen whispered, "I know Teddy. I want my dad to know you and to know the girls. To see that I'm finally happy. I had no one to talk to about being a dad. No one to show me how to be Allison's dad or a father figure for Annie. He should be walking Meghan down the aisle instead of mom. I wanted my dad to show me how to be a man so many times and you can't admit that. I still miss him and I was 9. Meg hardly remembers him and it's hard to talk to mom about. I wish dad had met you and knew how much I love you."

Teddy nodded, "I think they're watching us from wherever they are. My parents said they know what we're doing and the last time I dreamed about my mom was Annie's first trip down. She told me then that Annie was getting ready to come to me that I would be her safe place."

"So that voice in the woods I'm not imagining it," Owen said.

"I don't know," Teddy replied, "but if I can dream of my parents why not."

"Or we both have brain tumors," Owen deadpanned.

"Do you want an MRI," Teddy asked, "we can get that arranged."

Owen laughed, "I think we're good but we'll keep the ghost dreams to ourselves."

"Let's get ready for work before Allison is up," Teddy said.

"Shower," Owen said with a teasing smile.

"Only if you share the hot water," Teddy laughed.

Evelyn was considering downsizing and moving to a seniors community. She didn't need the big house anymore and it was a lot for her to maintain on her own. She had Owen and Meghan helping her sort though boxes of childhood toys and teenage mementos.

Meghan was flipping through a box of old dance medals and awards when she came across a newspaper clipping. The photo showed her at 23 holding the hand of a little girl who appeared about 6. Something about the girl was familiar, Meghan saw the serious expression and bright green eyes on the little girl. Meghan read the caption underneath

"Adult champion Meghan Hunt (23) from Seattle, Washington leading children's champion Annabeth McKellar (7) from Cloverdale, BC in the parade of champions at the Seattle Highland Games. "

Meghan started at the clipping for a while before asking, "what was Annie's original last name? Before she chose to use Altman?"

"McKellar," Owen said, "why?"

"Look at this," Meghan said, passing Owen the crippling, "look at the caption."

Owen read it, "I'm sure that's our Annie. I'll take a picture and ask her and Teddy."

Owen took a picture of the clipping and texted it to Annie and Teddy asking, "is this Annie at 7?"

Annie, "my first championship. My first premiere competition. Meghan was the big girl in the green kilt that led me around?"

Meghan, "I was."

Annie, "where did you get that? I've never see it before."

Owen, "cleaning out boxes at my mom's."

Teddy, "I want to see it. That's a cute picture."

Annie, "I hated the red kilt. I wore it until I was 11."

Teddy, "I remember seeing pictures. It's cute with your little bun. But those sashes are something else."

Annie, "I remember that day. I didn't remember Meghan's name. It was my very first premiere and I was excited to compete in the afternoon like the big girls. But I didn't know what they were asking me to do for the parade and champions fling so Meghan came and took my hand."

Meghan," you wouldn't let go. You were so shy. I spent the whole time trying to get you to smile at me."

Annie, "all the big girls were scary. I was the only little kid."

Meghan, "that was my last competition."

Annie, "once I was about 14 I was the one looking for the lost little ones to lead because I always remembered that my first time someone took my hand and led me. "

Meghan, "you're making me cry."

Owen, "it's true the tissues are out."

Teddy, "keep that clipping its special. That they crossed paths 17 years before they officially met. Hold onto it please."

Meghan, "we will. It's going in the keep pile. My medals can be recycled or whatever."

Owen, "she has us going through our childhood and teenage boxes."

Teddy, "I want to see the pictures."

Annie, "can I see? Mama showed me all her albums."

Teddy, "almost all. We're saving yours for a special occasion."

Meghan, "can I see Annie's?"

Teddy, "if she wants you there when her and I look. It's the one I kept of all the photos and letters that were sent to me."

Annie, "I don't even know what photos she has. I only got to pick the ones that were sent from my high school grad dinner dance and commencement."

Teddy, "lots of school pictures and dance and some others. Some I took when you would come visit at 19 and 20."

Annie, "can I see them soon?"

Teddy, "you know what the occasion is."

Annie, "that's out of my control."

Meghan, "what are you waiting for her to see her photos?"

Teddy, "I'll tell you when it happens."

Meghan sent Teddy a private text

Meghan, "what are you waiting for?"

Teddy, "she can have her album when she gets married."

Meghan, "do you think that's soon?"

Teddy, "I don't know. Her and Josh are happy. They're a good pair."

Meghan, "he hasn't mentioned anything to Nathan. I would know."

Teddy, "Owen seems to think so. But there was that fight a couple months ago and she's only 26."

Meghan, "they seem closer than ever after that fight. do you think you'll know ahead?"

Teddy, "she mentioned they're talking about it. But he would surprise her. Talking to her parents before is old fashioned and you go see the girl's dad. Dan hasn't been around in years."

Meghan, "you maybe?"

Teddy, "I doubt it. I'm her mama. Too old fashioned. They already live together."

Annie walked into the pit and was directed to the bed of a woman in her early 60s. She read the name on the chart, Violette Chapman.

Annie opened the curtain, "good morning Mrs. Chapman I'm dr Altman what seems to be the problem today?"

The woman's eyes went wide, "Annabeth McKellar what are you doing here?"

Annie smiled, "hi Mrs. C. I'm a surgical resident here. I use Grace Altman now. What's bothering you today?"

Mrs. C asked, "why did they send me a surgeon?"

Annie replied, "it's my day in the emergency room. Let's see what's bothering you and check you out. What's the problem?"

Mrs. C described the problem.

"I'm going to do an ultrasound to confirm but I think it's gall stones," Annie replied, "let me confirm and check with my attending."

Annie did the test to confirm and paged Richard.

"She's Canadian," Annie explained, "is she stable enough to go home or do we need to do it now?"

Richard thought, "check on the insurance. Why do you seem to care so much about this paitent?"

Annie replied, "Mrs Chapman was my ballet teacher from the time I was 3 until I left for med school."

"I'll look into the insurance. You keep her comfortably," Richard directed, "and introduce her to your mama if possible."

Annie shook her head, "mama is off today."

Richard nodded, "it's nice to see the people that were in your child's life when they didn't grow up with you. I like meeting the people who influenced Maggie and thought Teddy would want to see your ballet teacher."

Annie replied, "I can text and tell her."

"Help," came a cry from Mrs. C's room.

Annie dashed in to find the older woman coding. Hitting the button to call the code team Annie began to run the code.

"Altman stand back," Richard commanded. Annie stepped back and watched as they revived her beloved ballet teacher.

"I'll take her to CT," Annie offered once she was stable.

"Get chest and head films," Richard demanded.

Josh not having a paitent followed Annie he could see that she was anxious and there was something she wasn't telling him.

"Annie. Am I going to be okay," asked Mrs. Chapman.

"You will be Mrs C. Dr Webber is amazing," Annie replied.

"Annie can I ask you a couple of questions," Mrs Chapman asked.

"Of course Mrs Chapman," replied Annie.

"After your last season with me and at UBC you just disappeared, where did you go," Mrs Chapman queried.

"Harvard for medical school. I was in Boston for four years," Annie smiled, "but I missed the west coast so came back to Seattle for residency."

"You had some nearly career ending injures between your last two seasons and were never the same. Are you okay now," continued Mrs. Chapman.

"I am. But I also don't dance anymore. There's no time when I average 100 hour weeks," Annie replied, "the odd kitchen counter barre if I'm home alone but that's it."

"I like when you dance," Josh interrupted, "you look happy. "

"She was a gorgeous dancer," Mrs Chapman said, "Have you known each other long?"

"Six year," Josh replied, "since we moved to Boston then we came out here together."

"Mrs C this is Dr Josh Riggs," Annie introduces, "my boyfriend."

"So you haven't been alone," Mrs Chapman asked.

"I've been with Josh and my birth mothers family," Annie replied.

"I remember you finding her," Mrs Chapman smiled, "I'm glad that worked out."

"She's a surgeon here," Annie said, "but is off today. She should be home with my half sister."

When it was Mrs Chapman's turn for her CT Annie stood with Josh in the control room to watch the scans come up.

Josh stood beside Annie with his arm around her, "babe who is that? She calls you Annie."

Annie replied, "that's Mrs C my ballet teacher. She's part of life before."

"Are you okay," asked Josh.

"I don't know," Annie said, "I was having a good day. But seeing people is hard. Can you try to get rid of Duncan tonight?"

"He's having army buddies in and I think a couple might be crashing at our place," Josh said.

"Maybe we can stay at mamas," Annie said, "people from my old life make me anxious."

"We'll be fine at home," Josh said, "we're both home. If you have a nightmare I'll be there. But she seems to care about you. It's nice to put a face to her name. You've talked about her a lot."

"I really like Mrs. C," Annie said, "she pushed me harder then Grey or Bailey. But I learned to work and take criticism and reach for a goal. She never gave up on me. She held us to really high standards. Her and Mrs G. I wish I could have said goodbye to them. The studio was always my safe place. I could dance and just forget anything else. I always belonged at the studio."

"I know honey," Josh said, "you miss it. You miss the girls you danced with and your teachers. Why not talk to them?"

"Because then I have to tell them what happened," Annie said, "the real reason I've never been back."

"Dr Altman," the tech said, "your scans are up."

Annie looked, "page cardio and get her up to the OR it's an abdominal aortic aneurysm and the gallstones."

Annie spoke to Mrs. Chapman, "Mrs C we need to take you into surgery now."

"Annie what's wrong with me," Mrs Chapman asked, "where's Elsa?"

"I'll call Elsa," Annie promised.

Josh explained the diagnosis and what treatment would be.

"The other Dr Riggs my uncle will be doing your surgery with Dr. Webber ," Josh explained.

"Annie please tell Elsa," Mrs Chapman begged.

"I will and I'll wait here for her," Annie promised.

"Thank you," Mrs Chapman said.

"I'll walk with you to the OR," Annie said.

Annie walked with Mrs Chapman to the OR then went to call her daughter.

"Hello is Elsa Chapman there please," Annie said in her doctor voice.

"This is," Elsa replied.

"My name is Dr Grace Altman, I'm calling from Grey Sloan memorial hospital in Seattle Washington. Your mother Violette Chapman was admitted for emergency surgery she is in the OR now."

"Will she be okay," Elsa asked.

"She has excellent surgeons. Dr Riggs and Dr Webber are very experienced. She has an abdominal aortic aneurysm that is being repaired. The surgery should take seven to eight hours. Your mother would like you to come as soon as possible," Annie explained.

"Where do I go when I get there," Elsa asked.

"Come up to the surgical floor and ask at the nurses station. Your mother will be in the cardiac wing when she is out of surgery," Annie explained, "Do you have any questions for me?"

"I don't I'll see you when I get there," Elsa said, "please let me know if anything changes."

Annie scrubbed in with Nathan, Richard and Josh. After the surgery Nathan and Richard went to tell Elsa what had happened and that her mother would be fine in a few weeks and could be taken back to BC in a week.

Annie and Josh drove home and found a group of Duncan's army friends in the living room.

"Guys do you remember major Altman from when we were overseas," Duncan asked.

"She was a surgeon always with the tall redhead major diamond," a guy said.

"This is her daughter Grace. Grace and her boyfriend Josh are both residents with me at the hospital," Duncan said, "we usually call Major Hunt Dr Hunt. That's Grace's mom and Hunt is her step dad."

"It's nice to meet you," Annie said, "but Josh and I both really tired. Our surgery today with Nathan and Webber was long. Mama and Uncle Owen are coming tomorrow so you can all say hi then."

"Night Grace," Duncan said.

"Good night. Have fun," Annie replied and walked into her room and closed the door.

"Duncan can I talk to you for a second," Josh called from the kitchen.

Duncan joined him.

"Just a heads up Annie had a hard day. Our patient was her ballet teacher before she had to leave B.C. She had to talk to her ballet teacher and an old teammate of hers. She's shaken. People from that part of her life make her anxious," Josh said.

"We'll keep it down," Duncan said.

"Thanks man," Josh said, "have a good night."

"You off tomorrow," Duncan asked.

"We are," Josh said, "Annie will be up early and is going for a run with Teddy. They're meeting here."

"She wants her mom after today," Duncan asked.

"She does," Josh replied, "I'm going to go make sure she's okay."
