Meghan was running the emergency room when a teenage girl came in screaming saying she was in labour. Meghan walked to the triage desk to see how she could help.

"Rebecca," Meghan said, "are you alright."

"No," Rebecca sobbed, "I think I'm going to have this baby right now."

Meghan grabbed a wheelchair, "okay we're going to admit you and then take you up to labour and delivery."

"I'm scared. I want my mom," Rebecca sobbed.

"I'll call her and stay right with you until she comes," Meghan soothed.

"She won't come. She won't talk to me," Rebecca continued to sob, "she hasn't talked to me since I told her I was giving you the baby."

Meghan paused, "I'm going to call her and let her know anyway where you are and what's happening. She'll be worried."

"Can you stay with me," Rebecca asked.

"I will be there as much as you want me," Meghan promised.

"This hurts and I'm scared," Rebecca cried.

"Once Dr Deluca had checked and made sure everything looks good I'll have them give you something for the pain," Meghan soothed as she pushed the wheelchair upstairs.

"Meghan have you done this before," Rebecca asked.

"No I haven't," Meghan said, "but I know two women on staff that I'm really close to who have. My sister in law Teddy and my niece Annie. Annie only did this a couple months ago. Do you want to talk to her or Teddy?"

"Do you know of anyone who gave their baby up and then found them later," Rebecca asked.

Meghan crouched in front of the teenager, "I do. Teddy was about 21 when she had Annie. They both work here and are very very close. They didn't meet until Annie was 19 about eleven years ago. Rebecca I promise that it will be your choice how much contact you have with me and Nate. We want to know that you're doing well and all the amazing things you're going to accomplish. When you and our little girl are both ready you'll be able to meet. We will keep you updated at least once a month on her progress. If you want you could follow me on Facebook or Instagram to see updates. Even though I don't post often I'll post some."

"You would do that," Rebecca asked.

"We will," Meghan promised, "you tell us how often you want to hear about her. She'll always be your baby in your heart. I can remember being in Iraq just outside Baghdad with Teddy when we were in the army and hearing Teddy pray for Annie. Teddy and I would talk about Annie and all her hopes and dreams for her."

"What happened to Annie," Rebecca asked, momentarily distracted from the pain. At least Meghan's conversation was keeping her calm.

"Annie grew up," Meghan said, "she met Teddy 10 years ago, they are close. Annie is a kids heart surgeon here. Annie is married to my nephew, they had their first baby at the end of May."

Cassidy entered the room, "dr Hunt?"

"Just bringing the patient up," Meghan replied, "Dr Deluca is her OB."

"Dr Deluca is in the OR for an emergency surgery," Cassidy replied, "I'm covering her service."

"I'll step out then," Meghan replied.

"Meghan can you stay until my mom comes," Rebecca whimpered.

"Dr Liard," Meghan asked, "May I stay?"

"Rebecca, do you want dr Hunt to stay," Cassidy asked.

Rebecca nodded.

"Okay I'm going to ask you to get up in the bed and I'm going to see where you're at," Cassidy said.

"Do you have to," asked Rebecca, "this really hurts."

"I know it does," Meghan soothed.

Rebecca yelled, "no you don't that's why you're adopting my baby."

"Dr Hunt I need you to step out," Cassidy said, "can you page either of the Altmans while you're in the hall."

"Do I need another dr," Rebecca asked.

"I'm noticing some changes in your heart rhythm that I want a heart specialist to look at," Cassidy replied, adjusting her language to fit the scared teen.

"Are they nice," Rebecca asked.

"Very," Cassidy reassured, "Grace is one of my best friends and her mama is wonderful."

"Is there someone who had a baby that can help me," Rebecca asked, "my mom won't come."

Teddy got the page in the Or and told them to send Annie based on the age of the patient.

Annie knocked on the door then stepped in, "hi Rebecca I'm dr Altman but you can call me dr Grace most of my paitents do."

"I can't breath," Rebecca cried.

Annie looked at the monitor, "your pulse is fast and you have an abnormal heart rhythm. I'm going to work with Dr Liard to make sure you and your baby are okay."

"This hurts," Rebecca sobbed.

"I know," Annie soothed, "I had my little girl in May. I know this really hurts. We're going to try a couple things to make it so your heart is doing less work and your lungs have more room to breath."

"What's your plan Altman," Cassidy asked.

"Sit her up first," Annie said, "up right is better for her and the baby. Get gravity on our side."

"Will it hurt less," Rebecca asked.

"What does your body want to do," Annie asked, "not what you think would be right what does your body want."

"I don't know," Rebecca said.

"Deep breaths and listen to your body," Annie encouraged.

"Can I sit on my knees," Rebecca asked.

"Let's try it," Cassidy said, she helped the teen move.

The heart rate monitor skyrocketed.

"Grace," Cassidy asked.

"Wait out the contraction," Annie said, "we just moved her."

They watched the monitor.

"Her heart is unstable. I want an echocardiogram now," Annie said, "dr Liard you need to get her mom down here."

"Dr Altman in the hall," Cassidy said.

"Rebecca we'll be right back, "Annie promised.

"Don't leave me," Rebecca begged.

"I know this is scary but we'll be right back," Annie reassured.

"My back hurts," Rebecca whined.

"Try hands and knees," Annie said, we'll be right back."

In the hall Cassidy hissed , "what do you think your doing repositioning her?"

Annie replied, "which one of us just had a baby? Hands and knees with Josh rubbing my back helped."

"She's at 8cm," Cassidy said.

"And her heart rate is irratic," Annie said, "I don't think she should push. I want an emergency c section."

"So your going to traumatize a teenager who isn't keeping her baby," Cassidy said.

"That arrhythmia is alarming," Annie said, "let's decide after the echo the portable is coming up. I don't think her heart can take this. I want two live paitents."

"Can we put her back in bed properly," Cassidy asked.

"Let her listen to her body," Annie urged.

"Says the woman who put herself through 30 hours unmedicated," Cassidy said.

"She hasn't asked for drugs," Annie said, "if we take her to the OR I want her under general so I can fix that heart."

"You need parental consent," Cassidy reminded.

"I'll deal with that," Annie said.

"I'll try to get her comfortable ," Cassidy said.

Annie took the portable echo and did the test finding untreated flailed valves.

"Dr Liard are her parents here yet," Annie asked.

"Dr Altman what's wrong," Rebecca asked.

"You have two abnormal heart valves and your heart is working too hard to pump your blood," Annie explained, "I need to do surgery to fix it. Your heart isn't strong enough to have your baby naturally. Dr Liard and I are going to take you to the OR."

"Meghan was supposed to be there when the baby comes. She's her mom not me," Rebecca said.

"Do you want her in the OR and to take the baby," Cassidy asked.

"Can I see the baby," Rebecca asked.

"That's up to the anesthesiologist," Annie said, "we can ask him to do just a spinal until we deliver the baby. I have to have you fully under general to fix your heart because I need to put you on bypass."

"My mom," Rebecca asked.

"Is on her way," Meghan said stepping back into the room, "how can I help?"

"Dr. Liard and I are sending interns in to prepare her for a C section," Annie replied, "can you keep her calm?"

"What helped you feel better," Meghan asked.

"Josh or mama massaging my back, holding my hands," Annie said, "your coming to the OR with us?"

"I am," Meghan replied, "I'll scrub once she's on the table."

Annie and Cassidy went to the open OR and instructed the staff to get it set up. When Rebecca was given the medications she needed Cassidy began the surgery, she showed the baby to Rebecca who turned her head away from the baby.

"Dr. Hunt, Dr. Riggs you have a beautiful baby girl," Cassidy said placing the baby girl in Meghan's arms.

Nathan leaned over her shoulder, "hello Catrina I'm daddy."

"Hi Catrina Evelyn Hunt - Riggs," Meghan cooed, "I'm mama. Let's take you upstairs and give you a bath."

Meghan cradled her close and carried the baby out of the or wrapped in a blanket.

"Meg she's perfect," Nathan whispered.

"She's ours," Meghan whispered tears falling down her cheeks, "our daughter."

Josh stepped into the OR, "Annie should I take something to them?"

"Daycare fridge," Annie replied.

When Josh left the OR Cassidy asked, "trying to donate milk to them?"

"We'll see," Annie replied, "I'm going to try at least. I need to get this girl under general and on bypass her stats are falling."

Annie and Cassidy turned their attention back to their patient.

Nathan and Meghan sat with their daughter in the family room of the NICU.

"Nate," Meghan cried, "she's perfect, absolutely perfect."

"She is," Nathan agreed, "may I see her?"

Meghan gingerly passed Catrina to Nathan.

"Catrina you have no idea how long mama and I have waited and prayed for you," Nathan said, "I've dreamed of this since the first time mama told me she loved me over 20 years ago. Your big brother will be her soon. Faroke is going to be excited to meet you."

The baby began to fuss.

"Is she hungry," Meghan asked.

Alex appeared at the door, "Josh Riggs brought this up for when you're ready for it."

Nathan took the bottle from Alex, "thank you. We just need to warm it."

"Theres a warmer on the counter behind you," Alex said, "which formula are you using?"

"A mix of formula, the one you told us to buy and some donated milk," Meghan said, "Catrina daddy is just heating a bottle."

"Donated milk, you found a donor," Alex asked, "that's hard."

"A family member offered," Meghan replied, "her baby is only three and a half months."

"Mini Altman," Alex asked, "she's back at work."

"She offered to try," Nathan replied, "it's a supplement formula for her main source of nutrition."

"Catrina baby daddy will have your bottle hot in just a moment," Meghan cooed, "you'll eat and then we're going to give you a bath and have some more cuddles. Then maybe we can go home tonight."

"If she's healthy I don't see why you can't take her home in a few hours," Alex agreed.

Nathan brought the bottle over, "Meg."

"Sit with us," Meghan said settling on the couch, "lets get this in your mouth sweetheart. Thats it. Is it yummy? Good girl eat up."

Nathan wrapped his arms around Meghan and held both her and Katrina.

Together they gently washed the baby and dressed her in a pink onesie with I'm New Here written across it.

"Should we send the family pictures," Nathan asked.

"Annie saw her," Meghan replied, "I called mom and told her."

"Let's take a couple and send them," Nathan said.

"One of each of us with her and one of just her," Meghan smiled.

They quickly took the pictures of the sleeping newborn.

Nathan texted the family, "Catrina Evelyn Hunt - Riggs arrived at 12:45 pm today. 7 pounds 12 ounces, 23 inches. Catrina is healthy. We are overjoyed to have our baby girl."

Faroke, "dad can I come see her? Nana can come get me from school."

Nathan, "Nana is on her way now. You can miss last period."

Faroke, "can I hold her when I get there?"

Nathan, "of course. We should all be home tonight bud."

Half an hour later Faroke and Evelyn appeared at the door of Meghan's office where Meghan and Nathan were cuddling with Catrina.

"Why doesn't dad have a shirt on," Faroke asked.

"It's called Kangraoo Care," Meghan said, "it helps Catrina get to know us it keeps babies calm to feel your warmth and hear your heartbeat."

"You've seen Josh do it with Ellie," Nathan reminded.

"At the beach," Faroke said, "mama can I hold Catrina?"

"Come sit with us," Nathan said, "she's only 3 hours old."

Nathan placed Catrina in Faroke's arms.

"Is she bigger or smaller than Ellie," Faroke asked.

"She's bigger then Ellie was at birth but Ellie is bigger now because she's older," Meghan said.

Faroke smiled at Catrina, "hi Catrina I'm Faroke your big brother. I'm adopted two. Annie, our cousin was adopted as a baby and so was our cousin Leo. Annie says it makes us part of a special club because people chose us to love us. I'm new at the big brother thing so I might make a few mistakes but you've never had a big brother before so you don't know what I'm supposed to do either. You're so cute. I wonder if you're going to cry as much as our cousin Ellie does. Have you met Ellie yet?"

"She hasn't met Ellie yet," Nathan said, "Annie was in the OR waith us when Catrina was born."

Catrina began to cry.

"Another bottle," Meghan guessed.

"Mama can I give it to her," Faroke asked.

"Not this one until we know she's eating well," Meghan said, "we're going to let dad give her this one. I gave her the last one."

Evelyn stepped into the room, "sweetheart may I see her?"

"Do you want to hold her after she eats mom," Meghan offered.

Evelyn smiled , "I want to meet my granddaughter. She is perfect."

"Mom it's everything I ever dreamed of," Meghan said, "my two kids."

"I know sweetheart," Evelyn smiled, "congratulations."

They sat in silence as Nathan gave Catrina her second bottle.

"Nana," Nathan offered, "do you want to meet Catrina?"

"I do," Evelyn beamed taking the baby.

"Nana watch her head," Faroke said.

"I know," Evelyn said, "I've held a few babies in my time."

"Nana knows what she's doing," Meghan said.

"Hello Catrina," Evelyn whispered, cradling the baby close, "you are just a precious baby girl. I'm Nana, I'm your mama's mama. You have a very special mama and daddy. We're going to love you so much."

Soon Teddy and Owen appeared at the door.

"We left our kids in day care we didn't want to overwhelm you," Teddy said.

"But they saw Ellie," Faroke said.

"And Annie found it all a bit much," Teddy replied.

"We're emotional but not physically exhausted," Meghan replied, "Teddy you didn't tell me about this feeling."

"When they put her in your arms," Teddy smiled, "I can't describe it. Meghan she's perfect."
