Chapter 2 – Warm Feelings

(Kyoko's POV)

Hope's Peak Academy. I honestly had no real interest in attending here in the first place. My only reason for even coming here was to cut all ties with my father. At least, that's what I thought at first. I'll deal with that issue at a later date, since right now, I should just be focusing on my studies. My original plan was to have as few interactions as possible with the other students here at the academy, but that was quickly thrown out the window before classes had even started.

On the day of the welcoming ceremony, I met Makoto Naegi, the first of many students here. At first, I was planning on keeping my distance, but I decided that quick conversation couldn't be too bad. But by the time the had ended, I had already talked to about seven other students besides Makoto. Then again, talking to them wasn't nearly as difficult as I was expecting. In fact, I even enjoyed our conversations a bit, even though I didn't show.

It's now been one month since the ceremony and things are going much more differently than I thought they would. I the classes have been a lot more involved and group assignments are given at least once a week so far. Luckily enough though, I always seem to be working with the same people, which hasn't been so bad so far. My usual group is made up of Hina, Sayaka, and Sakura, and from what I can tell, there all good people. We know the material given to us, our discussions are productive, and we always get things done a bit early. Since most of my childhood was spent training to become detective, I haven't had time to make friends or anything like that and know that I'm here I do have that chance. Maybe these little group projects aren't as bad as I thought.

Classes had just finished up for the day, so Hina, Sayaka and myself decided to head to a café near the school. Sayaka insisted on hanging out with our whole group, but Sakura had other plans so she had to pass this time. Once we arrived, we got our orders instantly and sat down at one of their tables inside. While Hina and Sayaka were talking, I was around the interior of the café. The overall atmosphere was calming, the colours of place were nice and inviting, and the drinks weren't half bad either.

Before I could finish any more thoughts though, Hina tapped my shoulder and asked "Hey Kyoko, you were listening right?" I looked up and saw Hina and Sayaka looking at me with looks of wonder on their faces, and responded with "Sorry Hina, I might've zoned out a bit. What were you talking about?" Sayaka giggled at my response and simply said "We were just talking about who might like in our class!"

I know girls usually do this, but it was a foreign concept to someone like me. Nevertheless, I decided to continue the conversation. "Okay than, in that case do you like someone Sayaka?" She started the conversation by the sound of it, so obviously she liked someone. She smiled and said "That's pretty easy Kyoko, the person I like in our class is Leon! He seems to be interested in music, so I decided to give him some advice one day and we've been hanging out every now and then since."

I thought back on it and knew she wasn't lying. Both her and Leon have been seen hanging out all over the academy, and whenever we've been studying in class I notice that her gaze usually turns to Leon, with a slight blush on her face. Even as she was talking about him now, her cheeks warmed up ever so slightly. Before I could ponder any longer though, Sayaka turned my question back at me and asked "What about you Kyoko? Do you have a crush on someone in our class?"

"What!?" I asked surprised. "I don't know. I haven't really thought about anyone that way." "Uh, Kyoko, that didn't sound very convincing if you ask me." Hina said. "If you ask me, I think you do like someone and Sayaka and I might know who it could be." They were both smiling as Hina finished her sentence and before I could respond they both said "It's obvious that you have crush on Makoto!" My only response to that was "What!? I don't have a crush on Makoto!"

"Your lying Kyoko." Was what Hina and Sayaka both said in unison. "After all, you wouldn't be blushing like you are now it wasn't true." Hina said with sly grin on her face. I took out my phone looked at the screen to see that I was indeed blushing. "That's not the only evidence Kyoko." Sayaka said. "I notice how you look up from your work in class and how you just so happen to turn your gaze towards him." Before I could refute their words though, Sayaka simply said "Not to mention, Makoto has a crush on you!"

"What the… How do you know this?" was all I managed to get out before Sayaka explained "Hina and I where on our way back to the dorms after a little work out. I need to keep my figure idol work and Hina seemed to be the right person to ask, so we worked out for a bit." "On our way back, we happened to run into Makoto." Hina continued, "He said he wanted some advice, and we happened to be the best people ask in his own opinion." "So, we walked down cafeteria to talk and he asked us on what would be the best way to tell a girl would be."

"I was obviously curios, I asked him who he liked." Sayaka said. "He got nervous and his face went all red, but he said that he has a crush on you and asked us not to tell anyone." "He was so embarrassed, but we could tell that he was telling the truth." Hina said, "So we said that the best thing to do was to be honest with you. That's pretty much it Kyoko, plain and simple."

All through their explanation, my thoughts were all over the place. Makoto Naegi, my first friend at the academy and fellow classmate had a crush on me? I didn't know what to think. I never really had a crush on anyone before, so all of these feelings were brand new. But I didn't dislike these new feelings. On the contrary, they felt nice. Besides, I know that Makoto is a nice guy, so maybe things won't be so bad. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to follow my feelings and see how things will go.

"Hey Sayaka, Hina?" I asked. "Yes Kyoko?" they said simultaneously. "Thanks for telling me about this." I said while getting up. "Where are you going Kyoko? Sayaka asked. "I'm going to find Makoto and confirm if he likes me as you two say he does." I said with a small smile. Sayaka gave me an encouraging smile while Hina did the same and said "Good luck Kyoko." as I left the café and headed back to academy to find Makoto, so I can confirm his true feelings for me.

As I said before, my original thoughts my school life at Hope's Peak definitely isn't going like I thought it would. Then again, that's probably for the best, since I'm having more fun than I thought. Sayaka and Hina are great friends to have and Makoto, my first friend, has crush on me. This looking to an interesting time here at Hope's Peak, and honestly, I'm looking forward to what's coming next.

Second Chapter finished! This one was pretty fun to write, and I you enjoy. In the next chapter we'll find Makoto telling Kyoko how he feels about her, and hopefully nothing bad happens. After chapter 3, I might switch gears and start focusing on the next big pair of the story, being Hajime and Chiaki.
