Danganronpa – A Story of Growth and Love

Chapter 3 – The Detective and The Luckster

(Kyoko's POV)

Not many people go to school after classes have finished for the day. After a long day of school work, most students would either be heading home or hanging out with their friends. Yet here I was, standing at the front gate, with only two things on my mind. The first one being Makoto Naegi, the first friend I made at the academy, who I just found out today, that he has a crush on me. The second thing on my mind, is where he might be in the academy at this time of day. My one goal now, was to find out if his feelings for me were genuine.

The first month here wasn't that bad. I was able to make a few friends in class 78 and they've been really nice in so many ways. Hina and Sakura have been nice enough to help to include me in their workout sessions, and honestly, I've been enjoying every moment of it. I may have been in considerably good shape before the workouts, but with Hina and Sakura's help, I've never been better. Then there's Sayaka, the Ultimate Pop Sensation. At first, I thought we would never get along since our attitudes are polar opposites from one another. That is, until I had a chance to spend time with her. She's helped me broaden my horizons and in return, I taught her a few techniques to keep calm and composed. Sayaka, Hina, and Sakura have been such good friends and have helped slowly come out of my shell bit by bit.

Yet out of everyone I've meet here Hope's Peak so far, the most important one to me has been Makoto Naegi. Makoto has been my friend here since day one, and everyday after that, he's found time in his day to talk to me. Every time we talk, he's always trying to lower the iron mask that hides my emotions, and everyday he succeeds little by little. Whenever I'm feeling stressed, he's there to listen me. Whenever I'm feeling sad, he's always finds some way to cheer me up. I didn't pay much attention at first, but recently I've noticed that whenever he's with me, his cheeks flush slightly and he has a habit of tripping over his own words. But thanks to Sayaka, I know why Makoto has been acting all nervous around. Now I'm currently walking around the first floor of the academy, trying to find Makoto.

With each step I'm taking, so many thoughts keep running through my head. "Am I rushing things? Does he really feel the same?" and other thoughts like that. I just shook those thoughts away though, since right now I just wanted to find Makoto and tell him how I feel. After checking all the classrooms on the first floor, I decided that I should check out the second floor, to see if he was there. But as I reached the stairs, I heard some voices coming from the gym. Curios about them, I decided to walk over and see who was in the gym. Once I reached the doors to the gym, I thought I heard Makoto's voice from inside, so I opened the door slightly to see who was inside.

The first thing I noticed was Makoto with 5 five other people, who I could only assume to other students here at the academy. The second thing I noticed, was that they were all wearing school tracksuits, so they've must've just finished a workout session. Makoto has been telling me that he's tried to find some people to work out with, so I'm guessing these people might've been it. It looked like they were pretty tired, but they all looked happy with the end result of their training. I decided that I should leave and wait for Makoto outside, but as soon as I started to close the door, it decided at that point to make a loud creak that got the attention of everyone in the gym, Makoto included. My face instantly turned crimson and I ran out of the gym. I was so embarrassed about what just happened, and before I knew it, I was sitting on a bench near the school store with a few tears running down my face.

I wasn't as worried about what those other students would think about me, but I was really worried about what Makoto would think about me. Would he think of me as some sort of creepy stalker trying to spy on him from afar? Would he stop talking to me and think that I'm weird? All of these thoughts kept on coming until I heard a voice that I knew all to well. "Kyoko, are you okay?" I looked up and saw Makoto, looking at me with a concerned look on his face. I wanted to run away and hide, for get that this day had even happened. But before I could leave, Makoto took a hold of my hands and sat down next to me. "Don't worry Kyoko, I'm right here for you. Just please tell me what's wrong okay? I hate seeing you so sad."

I took a moment to calm down before responding to him, and after a few minutes I looked and said "Sorry Makoto, I was trying to find you because I had something to tell you. I thought I heard you in the gym, so I decided see if you were there. I didn't know how much longer you were going to take, so I decided to wait for you close by, but when you noticed me at the door, I just got so flustered and ran here. I was so worried that you might think that I was spying on you, and I didn't want you to think less of or anything like that.

"Kyoko, you don't need to worry about that. I know you aren't the type of person to do something like that anyway." Makoto said. "To be honest with you Kyoko, I actually wanted to talk to you about something." After he said that, any feeling of embarrassment that I was feeling from before had vanished, and was replaced with a feeling of nervousness. Was he really about to tell me how he really feels about me? Makoto took a moment to collect his thoughts, and started to speak.

"Kyoko, when we first met at the academy last month, you seemed so mysterious to me. You had such a unique personality about you, and I instantly found myself wanting to know more about you. Since that day, I've always tried to find time to talk with you, so I could try and learn more about you. With every conversation we've had, I know that you're a hard-working individual, your really smart, and that you're a really kind person. But the one thing that's been stuck in my head after all our conversations, is your smile. You look so pretty when your smile, and after a while, I found myself thinking about you everyday. I really like Kyoko, and I would love it if you would be my girlfriend, as long as you feel the same of course."

With each word that Makoto said, I felt the heat rise higher and higher in my cheeks. Makoto really had feelings for me, and I couldn't have been happier. Before Makoto could say anything else, I felt my face move closer to his. Before we knew it, our lips were touching, and I felt electric shocks all over my body, as we shared our first kiss. This feeling of Makoto's lips on mine, I never felt anything like it before. The only thing I did know, was that I loved the feeling of his lips on mine. Makoto was a bit shocked at first, but he quickly eased into the kiss and wrapped his arms around me. After for what seemed like an eternity, I parted my lips from Makoto and looked up at him. His entire face was bright red, but he had a huge smile on his face.

"To answer your question Makoto, I would love to be your girlfriend. Ever since we've met, you always helped to brighten up my day. Your friendly demeanor and your smile always help to brighten up my day, and I hope that I can do the same for you." As soon as I finished speaking, I felt Makoto pull me in for another kiss. After a few seconds, we parted lips and stood up. Makoto took a hold of my hand as we walked back to the dorms. Along the way, Makoto and I had started making plans for our first date, and by the time we got to my room, we had everything planned out.

As I opened up my door, I turned around and kissed Makoto's cheek and said "I had a really nice time with you today Makoto. I hope you have a good evening." "Yeah, I hope you have good evening to Kyoko. I'll see you tomorrow!" I gave him a smile and walked into my room, and as was closing my door, I heard Makoto say "Yes! This was the best day ever!" I giggled to myself as I shut my door, and I started to get ready for bed. I already knew that both Hina and Sayaka were eagerly looking forward to hearing about how things went between Makoto and I, and I couldn't wait to tell them about it. Even though things have just started here at Hope's Peak, I know that I'll be able to face anything that comes my way. After all, I have Makoto with me now, and together we'll face any challenges that come our way.

All done with chapter 3! I really enjoyed writing this one to. I normally don't write this kind of stuff, but it was a lot of fun to do. Makoto and Kyoko have finally revealed their feelings for one another, but their story won't be ending here. In the next chapter, I'll be switching gears to class 77, and the next major relationship I'll be focusing on will be Hajime and Chiaki. Thank you for reading this and look forward to what's coming next!
