Did you finally get a chance to dance along the light of day And head back to the Milky Way?
And tell me, did Venus blow your mind?
Was it everything you wanted to find?
And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there?"
-Drops of Jupiter; Train
This was it.
After all this time. After years of countless rejections and him never showing up. Excuse after excuse. It finally meant something. It was finally worthwhile. Amy was going on a date with none other than Sonic The Hedgehog. The best part of it all though, was that HE had asked her! What a relief it was to finally know that she meant something to him after all these years. What that something was she wasn't sure, but she didn't care right now. Amy was too happy knowing that Sonic had finally asked her on a date and that date was tonight.
Amy stood facing toward the shower head and let the stream of warm water cascade over her body. "Finally, after all this time," she thought to herself. She closed her eyes and leaned her head foward so that her forehead rested against the cold tile of the shower wall while the rest of her was still enveloped by warm waves of water. "The only decision now," she thought as opened her eyes and stared down at her feet, "is do I tell him where I've been for the last four years or do I lie? Can he handle it? Does he even want to know?"
She shook her head and turned off the shower, standing still and letting the water drip off her body. She sighed. Amy was excited yes, but nervous as well. What if Sonic didn't like who she was now? What if he only wanted to go on a date with her because he still saw her as that helpless little girl that needed saving? Well, he was in for a big shock if he did. Amy had accepted every single flaw, every change and phase that Sonic had gone through over the years. Maybe it was time for Sonic to do the same for her.
But, she promised herself, she wouldn't go back to who she had been. She wouldn't become so dependent on Sonic again. She had changed and changed for the better. If she reverted back to always following him around and waiting for him to make the first move again, then these last four years would be wasted. No, she was not that little girl who needed Sonic. If he was going to be in her life, it was going to be because she wanted him there and not because she was dependent on him. Amy was strong now, never again would she be weak. Especially when it came to Sonic.
Amy stepped out of the shower and toweled off. She looked at her cell phone. It read 3:23 pm. Sonic wasn't supposed to pick her up until 5 in the evening, but she wanted to start getting ready early. It was her first official date with Sonic. She was happy that it was he who had made the first move and not her. But she still wanted to be prepared. Amy looked at herself in the mirror. She decided she would be ready for whatever may happen tonight, whether Sonic was or not. "Let's do this" she said, smiling at her reflection.
"Uh, stop here. Yeah, this one." Sonic's voice was shaky as he told the cab driver which house to park in front of. The cab pulled in front of a small house and parked. Sonic stepped out onto the curb with a bouquet of white roses in his hand. "I'll be just a second," he told the cab driver. The cabby gave Sonic a thumbs up through the window. Sonic walked up the sidewalk to the front steps of Amy's house and stood on the porch in front of the door. He could hear his heart pounding in his chest. He took a couple deep breaths.
"You got this," he thought to himself. "You have waited four years for this day and nothing is going to stand in your way. Especially not your nerves." Sonic took a deep breath. He smoothed down his button down shirt and then swatted at the imaginary dirt on his pants. He took on more last deep breath in through his nose and out through his mouth. "You've got this," he said one more time under his breath and knocked on Amy's front door.
He waited. Silence. One heartbeat. Two heartbeats. Sonic took another breath and knocked again. "Coming! I'm coming! Hold on!" He heard Amy's voice through the door and the thumping of footsteps as if she was running down the stairs. He smiled. "Just a little longer. I'm so sorry. Hold on!" He could hear her coming closer to the door. His heart started to speed up. This was it. This was really happening. Just as Sonic was wrapping his head around the reality of now the door opened.
"Sorry about that I couldn't find my purse and I - Oh my," Amy stopped mid sentence to behold the sight on her front porch. There he was. Sonic the Hedgehog in all his glory. He was wearing a white button down dress shirt with a jacket, dress pants, and as always, his trademark red and white shoes with the gold buckles. In one hand he held a beautiful boquet of white roses. His emerald eyes were bright and wide, and staring right at her. Sonic was as handsome as ever.
Sonic finally found his voice after what seemed like ages. "Amy," he started, "You look... beautiful." And she did. Amy stood in the doorway wearing a long sleeved sheer black shirt with a solid black undershirt, a gold patterned skirt that stopped midway down her thighs show casing her long, lean legs and beige high heels. The top part of her hair was poofed and pulled back and secured while the rest of her hair cascaded down her shoulders and back in loose curls. Her makeup was light, with just the right amount to define her jade eyes while highlighting her natural beauty. Amy was her own kind of beautiful and Sonic realized that she made him weak in the knees.
"Here." Sonic composed himself and handed the boquet of roses to Amy. "These are for you." Amy was able to turn the awe struck look on her face to one with a smile.
"These are beautful. Thank you Sonic." Her smiled widened. She was clearly happy. "Let me just put these in a vase real quick and then we're good to go!" She turned back into the house but left the door open. "Come on in," she stated. "It'll just be a sec."
Sonic followed Amy into her house. Sonic hadn't been to Amy's house in years, so he was surprised that he had still remembered where it was, let alone the fact that now he was going inside her house. Something he also hadn't done in years. He noted that not only had Amy matured, but her tastes as well. The furniture inside her home was classy and modern, almost as if she had hired an interior decorator to style it all.
While Sonic was occupied taking in her newly decorated home, Amy went into the kitchen and pulled a vase from underneath the sink. She filled it with water and placed the roses in the vase. She looked up at Sonic and watched him as he peered around her house. It was quite a feeling, having Sonic in her home. Sure, he had come over before but he hadn't actually been inside her house for more than a few seconds. That had been his thing back in the day, only stopping by for a few seconds or even less. The blue blur was known for just passing through. And yet, here he was waiting for her, a day that she never thought would occur.
"Your house is beautiful, Amy," Sonic suddenly said. He looked over at her in the kitchen. Amy looked up at him. "You're beautiful," he stated matter-of-factly, his emerald eyes warm.
Amy blushed but still smiled at him. "Thank you, Sonic." She put the vase filled with roses on the island counter. "Okay," she said, "I'm all ready to go". She grabbed her purse off the table and started walking towards Sonic and the front door.
Sonic watched the way Amy moved as she walked towards him and the door. The way her legs looked and how she carried herself. He started to feel butterflies in his stomach and his face get hot. 'Shut it down, Sonic,' he told himself. Sonic cleared his throat. "And go we shall," he replied to Amy with a smile on his face. He turned and walked out the front door but paused and waited for Amy to lock up, watching her as she did so.
Amy finished locking the door and turned around to begin walking towards the cab only to find that Sonic had put his arm around her waist to help her step down her front porch steps and lead her to the taxi. 'Since when did he become such a gentleman?' she thought. As they approached the cab Sonic moved in front of Amy, still keeping his arm around her waist and with his other hand he opened the car door.
"My lady," he said to her with that smirk Amy loved so much and motioned for her to get into the car.
Amy giggled. "Why thank you, kind sir," she said and smiled back at him.
Sonic slid into the taxi right after Amy. "32nd street and Hawes, please," Sonic said to the driver. The taxi started to move. The scenery of suburban houses soon turned into one of busy city streets and tall business buildings. Sonic looked at Amy as she stared out the window. She was breath taking. He prayed to God that he wouldn't mess tonight up, or mess up again ever, for that matter.
Amy felt Sonic starting at her and turned to look at him. He blushed at being caught. Amy thought it was adorable. Sonic rarely blushed and to know that it was her causing it gave her butterflies in her stomach. "So a taxi, huh?" She said and smirked at him. "I don't think in all my years of knowing you, you have ever taken a taxi."
"Yeah, well, tonight's a special occasion," he said returning her smirk with his trademark one and giving her a wink.
Amy felt her face heat up red as she realized he winked at her and her heart accelerated it's rhythm. But she wouldn't turn away. Not anymore. She was a stong, independent woman who would not let her emotions get the best of her... at least right now. So with a red face and a heartbeat that she was sure he could hear, she continued to make direct eye contact with Sonic and retorted, "I guess so. You clean up nice, Hedgehog." Then she moved her eyes up and down his frame once before smiling a sort of seductive smile at him.
Sonic felt his face begin to warm up. Was she flirting with him? It was definitely a more mature flirt than what he was used to. He was used to women throwing themselves at him and making raunchy remarks. Heck, even Amy used to throw herself at him but now she was teasing him and being witty. If that was how tonight was going to be, Sonic was ready for the challenge. He lifted his eyebrows at her while nodding his head towards her and replied, "You don't look too bad there yourself, Ames."
Before Amy could reply the taxi driver interrupted. "Here we are sir and misses. 32nd and Hawes. That'll be $43.54" he said in a very uninterested tone.
Sonic fished into his trouser pocked and pulled out some cash. He took out a 50 dollar bill and handed it to the driver. "Here, keep the change," he said as he opened the taxi door and grabbed Amy's hand.
Amy wasn't expecting the sudden contact with Sonic and blushed. She felt electricity flow up her arm from holding hands with Sonic. What a feeling. She followed him out of the taxi and her mouth instantly dropped open once she recognized the surrounding. "Oh my gosh, no you didn't!" she excaimed. "But you did! Cause here we are. Oh my gosh, Sonic! This is the most expensive, busiest restaurant in town! How did you even get reservations? Holy crow!"
Sonic just watched as Amy went into a fit of disbelief but never let go of her hand. She was adorable. Truth be told, he had made the reservation last minute, that morning in fact. To his luck, they had had a cancellation and he seized the opportunity. Seeing Amy this happy made him happy and it also made him feel like he was finally doing her right. "Well," he said to get her attention. Amy looked over at him beaming. Sonic felt his heart rate speed up. She took his breath away. "Do you want to stand here gawking in disbelief or actually go in an eat?" He smiled at her.
"Frick yeah, let's go eat! I've always wanted to try this place."
"Alrighty then," Soinc said and led her into the restaurant. 'Well,' he thought to himself, 'this is going to be one interesting night for sure.' He was going to win Amy back and if this was only the first step to a long staircase, then so be it. He opened the front door to the restaurant and let go of Amy's hand to let her in first. He felt his face flush again as he watch the way her butt moved in the skirt. Amy was doing her best to not fall back into her old ways with him and he had noticed that on the cab ride here. Sonic wondered what else she was hiding. He smiled to himself. He had always like a challenge. 'Bring it on.'
