Day 2, March 7
Been tinkering with the AI a little bit. The code has been easier to manipulate than I thought, which is weird. You'd think a program set to replicate a melodramatic, downright malicious piece of work would be a chore. At least, I did. I dunno what any future readers will think, but I'll take my chances.
Oh, yeah. I forgot to explain why I have to rewrite so much last time. To put it simply: My "customer" wanted to see what a 'broken-hearted' version of Spring... Trash?... would look like. I thought it'd be funny to have this guy's personality match the name. I could have just given him another robot's CPU and sent him out, but where's the fun in that? I like a good challenge, and this just seemed so perfect for me.
As for the design, I sent the original artist's doodles to a friend of mine who works in costuming. I just hope the proportions I sent are accurate. If not, then I'm going to salvage what works and do a Frankenstein's monster on it. It'd look more like the old, moldy suit that bot had before I removed it yesterday.
Also, I'm happy to write that remnant search was a great success! The shadow stuff was there and it did act weird when I moved close to it. Thankfully, I remembered what the reviews said and got out with what I grabbed. It's been pumped into the endoskeleton already, though I have no idea what exactly that does. The company says that it's to make the bots stronger, but there's been rumors that there's something more to it. Something like it having the ability to make them more.. "human'. Look, this isn't in my field so don't take my word for it. I'm a coder, not a chemist!
Anyway, I'm off to text my client about the update. I'll see you around! Octavia out.
Evening update: So, I took my client's advice and looked up the whole "Spring Bot" backstory to figure out how to keep him in-character and all that. Because I didn't memorize the original name, I only managed to find one article about some local horror attraction shut down and a speculation forum about a ruined pizza joint from decades ago. The only thing I can think about doing is digging into the company's history, but it looks like I'll have to be indirect. Don't want to lose my robot special delivery service, after all!
Maybe I can look up the names of the original founders and shoot their kids or grandkids a text? They might know more a lot more than I do. Hey, maybe I'll even meet one of the founding members myself. That'd be neat.
But that'll be tomorrow-me's task. Tonight, I'm going to sit back and watch a movie. Sci-fi all the way, boys and girls. All right, Octavia out.
Night Update: Did a quick test run of the AI to see how it was faring with the remnant. I asked it a few questions like "What's your favorite color?" and "Are you ready for tomorrow?". Turns out the reviews about it giving human-like vibes might be onto something. Don't believe me? Here's an example from my last conversation.
"So, how are you doing now?" was my starting question.
"I am doing... decent," was the response I got. Yes, it even figured to add the ellipses to simulate a pause. Don't worry, I programmed that part in.
"Why 'decent'?" I ask again, kinda interested in pushing the limits. "Is the glowing stuff making your code act weird?"
"I don't think so."
"Then what's up?"
"The moon and stars, I'm sure."
"No, what's wrong? Is everything okay with your system?"
Then it stopped on its side. To be honest, I was getting a bit worried. Was it acting up and battling any glitches while I was trying to talk? Did it shut down because I accidentally ordered it to run a diagnostic check? Did the remnant do something to it?
Then, after what felt like minutes, I get a cryptic sentence: "I miss them, that's all."
"Who's 'them'?" I obviously question.
The only thing it gave me was a link to some local news site stuck in the late '90s. After that? Nothing. Not that it much matters, since it looks like it has everything I need for an explanation. For anyone curious, it's an early '80s newspaper article about some Halloween festival in full swing. I think the only thing spooky about this is that one of the founders of that pizzeria was there with his family. I mean, I was going to do all this research when a piece of the ink-pen pie falls right onto my lap! Oh, well. Maybe old Spring just misses its "family" or something. Like it wants to go back to its roots. Dunno why a robot would want that, but maybe that's just the remnant doing its work.
I'll update with more info tomorrow. Maybe more stuff will clear up by then. Octavia out for real this time.
