Chapter 5

Della couldn't breath, couldn't move, couldn't speak - and she was fine with that. Fenton's bill was pressed against hers in a kiss, and she loved it. Unfortunately, it ended sooner than she would have liked, and she hid her disappointment as Fenton pulled away.

"Would you like to go out on a date?" Fenton asked, and Della nearly laughed. Usually it was after a date one kissed, not the other way around (but, if they were being perfectly honest, the coffee meeting was totally a date).

"Not for coffee?" Della asked playfully, and Fenton chuckled and shook his head.

"No, not for coffee - we'd go on a real date."

"Any idea where?" Della asked, forgetting for a moment the three girls inside. Webby was watching the interaction between Fenton and Della with wide eyes, trying not to fangirl. The Della Duck was going out on a date with Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera, a.k.a. Gizmoduck! This was just too good to be true.

"You could go to Funzo's!" Webby said, before she could stop herself. Della glanced back at Webby and her two friends - realizing that they had seen everything. "Or maybe The Red Door!"

"Uh, thanks, Webby," Della said, giving the girl a small smile. Webby gave her two thumbs up. Then she went back to watching the two of them. Lena, getting a little bored, grabbed Violet and Webby and pulled them towards the stairs.

"Come on, guys," She said, nodding up the stairs. "Tonight's still a sleep over, right?"

"Technically speaking," Violet said, glancing at Webby. "Yes. Do you think we should start sleeping?"

"No way!" Webby exclaimed, running up the stairs with Lena. "Now that Lena's back we need to make this a super sleepover - which means no sleep!"

"Unless that's too much for ya…" Lena challenged Violet. The hummingbird gave Lena a determined look.

"Of course not," Violet replied, pulling out of Lena's grasp and running after Webby. Lena smiled to herself followed after them. Now that Lena knew Violet could never replace her, the girl was growing on her.

Della watched the girls go, jumping when Fenton cleared his throat. When she turned back she began to notice how cold it was outside compared to inside. She mentally slapped herself for leaving him outside.

"Care to come in?" She asked, stepping back so he could step inside. Fenton hesitated, wondering if he should dare to do it...if Mr. McDuck was here, he wasn't sure how he'd explain being here. Della seemed to read his mind. "Don't worry Fenton - Uncle Scrooge is probably asleep by now."

"Probably?"

"Well, either that, or he's taking a late night Money Bin swim."

"His Money Bin has a pool?" Fenton asked, confused. Della let out a laugh as she closed the door and shook her head.

"No - he swims in the money," She explained, and Fenton nodded his head, still slightly confused. "Anyway - can I get you anything?"

"Oh, no, thanks," Fenton said, rubbing the back of his head. "I still have lemon loaf cake in the car."

"Right…" Della said, her voice trailing off. She took a sip of her coffee, which was a mistake. She was already pretty caffeinated as it was - now she'd probably be staying up the whole night. "So...do you have any idea where our 'first' date should be?"

"The...pier?" He suggested. His spending money was limited - but going to the pier was something within his budget. "I know it's not fancy but -"

"It sounds great," Della interrupted, bouncing on the balls of her feet. She smiled brightly up at him, and he couldn't help but smile back. "I don't suppose tomorrow would be a good day…?"

"Unfortunately not," Fenton shook his head. "Tomorrow I have to help Dr. Gearloose remodel the lab."

"Oh," Della felt disappointment pull at her happiness. But she refused to let it get a hold of her. Just because they couldn't go on a date tomorrow didn't mean it was the end of the world. "What about...this weekend?"

"I'm free Sunday," Fenton said, to which Della nodded.

"Perfect." Della smiled and planted a quick kiss on Fenton's cheek. He tried not to wince as she kissed his burn. He must have, because Della pulled back pretty quick. "Sorry - was that your burned cheek?"

"I'm fine," Fenton said, waving off her concern. He didn't want to go too deep into how he got the burn...because then that would lead to talk about the lab, and to the experiments done there - and then Fenton might reveal he's Gizmoduck. He'd sworn he'd keep his identity a secret - but so far the list of people who knew he was Gizmoduck was quite large. "Anyways - I should probably go."

"Oh, right," Della said, nodding her head. "It is pretty late."

"Yeah…" Fenton said, wondering if he should give her another kiss or simply go. He decided for the latter because, looking at the time, he realized M'Ma would be worried sick about him. "So, um, see you Sunday."

"It's a date," Della said, escorting him to the door. She opened it for him and waited until he was out of sight before closing it again. She leaned her back against the hardwood and smiled to herself.

She was going on another date with Fenton. This Sunday. At the pier, which wasn't her favorite place to be (she always felt like the fish were staring at her from the water) - but she didn't plan on going anywhere near the water. She was going to stay as close to land as she could.

"I've got a date," Della said, testing the phrase out. She liked hearing it. Smiling widely, she downed the rest of her coffee and ran up the stairs. She felt like a teenager again.

She ran down the hallway and to her room, where she pushed open the door and slid into the room. She automatically looked towards Donald's bed, and was about to tell him the news.

"Donald, I have a -" But then she remembered that he wasn't here. His bed, untouched since her disappearance, was well made and neat. "...date. Why'd you have to go on that stupid vacation, Don…"

She shook the pang of loneliness that engulfed her. Donald probably would have told her she couldn't go on a date anyway. Pushing thoughts of her brother away, Della put her Starducks stuff on a side table and went to her closet. Sunday may still be a long ways away - but that didn't mean she couldn't pick out something to wear now.

Hello! Sorry it took so long for me to update - I've been busy with college stuff. I'm still busy with college stuff, actually, but I started over stressing this morning and I needed to write to relax so...vwalla - here is chapter 5 of The Intern and The Pilot!

Thank you all for the reviews! I am going to have Gandra Dee make an appearance soon (and yes, she's going to be jealous), as well as Gizmoduck. But I do have Final Exams this week, so I probably won't start writing again till after this week is over. Anyways - Thanks for reading and have a great rest of the day!
