Annie rushed into the pit after being paged to a trauma. She hadn't had many traumas recently with her specialty.
"What do we have," Annie asked standing the true trauma bay.
"15 year old male multiple penetrating chest wounds," the intern said.
"Shotgun him," Annie commanded, "I want everything including a tox screen."
"There's a medical alert bracelet Dr Altman," a nurse said.
"What does it say " Annie asked.
The nurse took it off the boy and passed it to Annie.
"VHL," Annie read," who knows what that is?"
There was silence from the residents and interns.
"It's a rare genetic tumor condition that causes benign tumors in soft tissue," Annie said, "the tumors can grow fast. I want him up to CT now. Page the Chief, Webber and my husband."
Richard stepped in, "mini Altman what do you have?"
"Colton Burton," Annie replied, "15 year old male with penetrating chest wounds. He has VHL."
"Burton, that name sticks out," Richard said.
Annie answered with a single word, "Henry."
"Your mother," Richard said.
"I've paged her," Annie replied, "if he is related I'm going to pass this to Waters for cardio."
"You couldn't continue," Richard asked.
"Conflict of interest," Annie pointed out.
"Not technically," Richard said, "Henry Burton was your stepfather and he's been gone 9 years."
"You knew Henry Burton," the boy's mother asked, "he was my brother."
Annie nodded, "he was my stepfather. I'm dr Grace Altman but Henry would have called me Annie or Kiddo."
"He called you kiddo." The boy's mother said, "I'm Sarah."
"I remember his stories. It's good to meet you," Annie smiled, "my mother is just in her office, she's on her way down."
"I'll get the history, you go see your mother," Richard said. He knew Annie was a very confident and competent fellow but wondered about this.
Annie walked down the hall and seeing Teddy motioned her into a deserted family meeting room.
"All this secrecy about a cardiac trauma," Teddy said.
"Mama," Annie began.
"Mama at work somethings wrong," Teddy said.
"Don't freak out," Annie continued, "the patient is Colton Burton, his mother's name is Sarah."
"Henry's," Teddy said.
Annie nodded, "he has VHL. I have Webber down with him and I've ordered a CT."
"Can you do it," Teddy asked.
"I'm going to pass it off," Annie said, "too many emotions."
"Separate work and personal," Teddy encouraged, "you know what his condition is."
"Sarah knows who I am," Annie whispered.
"She would," Teddy agreed, "Henry would tell her all about you on Skype. He's part of our past sweetheart and we loved him."
"We did," Annie smiled, "he would want us to fix Colton."
"Let's go then," Teddy said.
Annie led Teddy back to where the family waited, "Ms Burton."
"Dr Altman." Sarah smiled.
"I'd like you to meet my mother and our Chief of surgery, Dr. Teddy Altman. She usually uses dr Altman and I'm dr Grace," Annie introduced.
"Teddy," Sarah said, "Henry's Teddy."
"Yes," Teddy replied, it had been nearly ten years but he would always hold a special place in her heart, "it's good to meet you Sarah."
Annie's resident of the week rounded the corner, "dr Altman I have the CT results and have paged Dr Silverstone and dr Shepherd."
"Thank you Eaket," Annie replied, "I'm on my way up now. Get Webber please."
"He's already there," Eaket replied.
"I'll page you or Maggie if I need you," Annie said to Teddy.
"You're okay to do this," Teddy asked.
"I'm strong mama," Annie said.
"Go do it then," Teddy replied.
Annie dashed down the hall to the elevator and headed up to radiology.
"Why are there two neurosurgeons here," Amelia asked, "that tumor is well within Silverstones skill."
"Perspective," Richard said, "we haven't seen a VHL patient here in a few years."
"Nine and a half," Annie said entering the room.
"Grace, can you do this," Richard said.
"The penetrating chest wound yes," Annie replied, "the pericardial tumor call Pierce or Nathan on standby."
"Not the chief," Amelia asked.
"No," Annie declared, "I want Pierce or Riggs. Do not call Yang."
"Of course," Richard replied, "he thought he knew what Annie was thinking."
"I need to get him to the OR and deal with that chest wound before he loses more blood. Jenna should we go for the spinal tumor," Annie asked.
"Get consent and do it," Richard said.
"Let's go," Annie replied, "get interns to prep him. Eaket your scrubbing in."
Annie walked back into the pit, "ms Burton we're going to prep Colton for surgery. Our CT revealed two small tumors one in the pericardium that I'll take out when I repair his chest wounds and the second on his spine. Dr Silverstone will be down in a moment to explain what she wants to do for that. We think we can get both in a single surgery."
Teddy's face went blank. It had been a tumor in the lung and pericardium that had killed Henry. Annie saw her look and nodded.
"We'll get it," Annie said, "I'm not going to give up on Colton. Mama I have Nathan on standby if I need to convert to an Altman procedure."
"Of course and take another fellow with you," Teddy replied.
"Already paged Sam," Annie answered.
"How big is this tumor," Sarah asked.
"Less then a centimeter in the pericardium and about 12 mm on the spine we caught them early," Annie said, "would you like us to remove them both?"
"Please," Sarah said, "do whatever you need to do to save him."
"We will," Annie replied.
"Go be awesome ," Teddy said, "I think OR6 is open."
Annie dashed to the locker room and grabbed a scrub cap from her locker. It was one she seldom wore but today her orcas were calling to her. The one that had been a Christmas gift from Henry before he passed.
Teddy walked Sarah to the waiting area outside the OR.
"Teddy can you stay," Sarah asked.
"I can," Teddy answered.
"I know it's been almost ten years but can you answer some questions for me," Sarah asked.
"Anything," Teddy said.
"Was my brother happy his last few weeks," Sarah asked.
"We were incredibly happy," Teddy promised, "that morning we went for a run before work and he spent some time here helping me teach. Then he went home and Skyped with Annie. I came home from work and he was sick. Sarah it all happened in less than three hours."
"You said that then but was he happy," Sarah asked.
"He was," Teddy assured.
"I used to get his emails about you and your daughter," Sarah said, "you would have thought she was his, the way he wrote about skiing with her or helping her move to Boston. His emails changed when he met you. He started sending photos of his life. His girls as he would write and telling us stories of his days. Teddy you gave him the best two years of his life the best he had."
"They were wonderful years," Teddy agreed, "I was devastated when I lost him. Annie was crushed."
"For the first time he found someone who loved him," Sarah said, "that saw past the tumors and saw the man."
"He loved me exactly as I was," Teddy said, "he taught me a lot. He loved me and my daughter. It was the first time since her father that a man made me feel safe enough to let him in to really know me to even meet Annie."
"You made him happy," Sarah said, "he talked about waffle days and skiing trips to someone's cabin."
"Owens family," Teddy said. She wasn't sure if she should tell the woman she was remarried and had two more children. Not out of embarrassment but the woman beside her still wasn't over Henry's death.
Annie appeared in her orca cap, "me Burton if you would like to see Colton before he goes to the OR you can come with me."
Teddy stood beside Annie and whispered, "Orcas today?"
"It felt right," Annie said, "something told me to wear it today."
"You know what that was," Teddy said.
"I do," Annie said, "I'm Going to give this everything I have mama. We have blood coming up I've got equipment and hands on standby for an Altman. Pierce, Nathan and Josh."
"Not Yang," Teddy asked.
"No," Annie said, "Nathan was dropping Catrina at nanas and coming."
"Christina is here," Teddy said.
"I didn't think you'd want her to," Annie replied, "that we wanted her to."
Teddy extended one pinkie towards her daughter. She hadn't done this in a couple years, "go be awesome kiddo."
"I'm always awesome," Annie smiled.
In the OR the boy was panicking.
"Colton deep breaths with me," Annie coached.
"But my uncle Henry had a heart tumor and died," Colton panicked.
"I know," Annie said, "that was a horrible call to get wasn't it?"
Jenna paused she wasn't sure what Annie was talking about.
"Jenna can you get Steph Mitchell to come here and clear you for my OR," Annie asked.
"Steph," Jenna asked.
"Steph," Annie confirmed. She wanted the friend that had been there the night they lost Henry.
"How do you know," Colton asked.
"The blonde woman talking to your mom is my mom," Annie said, "her name is teddy. She was married to your uncle Henry when he passed. Henry was my stepdad. And I am going to make sure you come off this table. Colton your tumor is about the size of your pinkie nail. We found it early and I'm going to get it out."
"Can you do it," Colton asked.
"I can," Annie said, "and if I can't I have two other heart surgeons to come help. We will get it all."
"What if," Colton asked.
"We don't do that in my or," Annie declared.
"Okay Colton," Dr Jekins said, "I'm dr Jekins. My job is to keep you nice and safe while dr Altman and dr Silverstone operate on you. I work with them a lot and they're both good. If they say you'll be okay I believe them. I'm going to give you some medicine so you can fall asleep. Can you count back from ten for me?"
"Ten," Colton said and was out befor he got to eight.
"Annie what was that," Jenna asked.
"You knew mama's first husband had VHL," Annie said, "this is his nephew. I'm not leaving until this kid is tumor free. I will do this for Henry."
"You want Steph because she was your roommate in med school," Jenna stated.
"Steph drove me to the airport the night Henry died," Annie said, "but the way you've been rubbing your stomach and back I want her or Carina to clear you for this."
"Really," Jenna groaned, "how about we leave them out of it and if I feel the slightest bit of any thing I'll tell you?"
"A single cramp," Annie countered.
"Fine," Jenna agreed, "but I'm not due of two more days and first are usually late. You were what two weeks late with Ellie?"
"Thirteen days," Annie said, "but was probably in early labor the Friday afternoon but it didn't get strong until Saturday morning. So 30-36 hours. The Friday I hung out with Cassidy and studied for my boards. I went for a walk and did the beach steps a few times. Josh and I watched a couple movies."
Their paitent ready Annie switched to work mode and tunneled in on her paitent. She would save this boy she always fought hard for her paitents but this boy felt different. Annie wasn't one to be superstitious or believe in spirts coming to communicate with you but she thought she saw a man in his mid forties with brown hair standing on the other side of the table. He was smiling and nodding at her mouthing "you've got this kiddo. You're a surgeon just like your mama. I'm proud of you kid." Annie knew the figure was Henry, she thought, "I won't let you down. I can do this. I'll do this for you."
Owen stepped into the gallery having heard from Teddy who the paitent was. He nodded seeing Annie in the orca cap he knew where it had come from years before. Annie had learned to separate her emotions from her surgeries now and to compartmentalize in the OR. She was intensely focused on the paitent her resident and interns stood ready to assist. The chest wound fixed for now Annie turned her attention to the heart. Jenna worked on the boy's neck, able to reach the tumor from the side without flipping him just turning his head.
Teddy still sat in the waiting room with the anxious mother she knew she had limited support.
"He would have wanted you to live," Sarah said.
"We have," Teddy replied.
"Not just to work to love again," Sarah said.
"I remarried a few years ago," Teddy said, "Owen and I have two younger children. I should have reached out more when we lost Henry I'm sorry."
"I chose not to be part of his life," Sarah said, "his condition scared me then Colton was diagnosed three years ago."
"It's terrifying when they need surgery isn't it," Teddy agreed, "my older daughter and my son have both had a few and it's hard to sit here and wait. When you love some one with VHL you sit here a lot and think of the worst. Today Annie will get that tumor she's good I trained her and she's one of very few of us who know what VHL is and how it affects our paitents. She'll fight and she'll fight hard. I know my daughter doesn't give up. We're going to do our very best to stay positive."
"How can you be so sure," Sarah asked.
"Because I trust my surgeons," Teddy smiled, "I trained dr Altman and dr Silverstone who are doing it. I know they will do it. They are a fabulous team. Sarah just trust them. They were confident and they have a plan."
"Your daughter will do it for Henry," Sarah asked.
"She will," Teddy smiled, "that surgical cap she's wearing she's held onto it for ten years. Henry chose it for her his last Christmas. She rarely wears it. I'm surprised she chose it today. Usually she grabs another one for things like this."
"We're they close," Sarah asked.
"Yes and no," Teddy said, "they liked each other and had their jokes but she was going through a lot at the time. He was always Henry to her. She said they were still getting to know each other."
"Was she living with you," Sarah asked. She was trying to piece together her brothers last few months.
"No," Teddy said, "Annie was around a lot and often without warning but first she was studying at UBC for pre med then in Boston at Harvard for medical school. Annie spent her childhood in BC with her father because I was training or in the army as a combat surgeon. Henry and I would got to Vancouver a lot to see her and be part of holidays and events."
"I remember a story of a snow cave and a snowball fight," Sarah said.
"We were an active family," Teddy said, "always moving or doing something."
"I shouldn't keep you," Sarah said, "I need to phone the insurance company anyway."
"Let me know if we can help at all," Teddy said standing up," it was nice to meet you Sarah."
"Thank you for taking care of them," Sarah said.
"It's what we do," Teddy smiled, "Annie will be out soon with an update."
Teddy popped into the OR, "how's it going?"
"Heart tumor almost out," Annie said, "maybe another hour then I can close."
"Jenna," Teddy asked.
"45 minutes," Jenna estimated.
"Annie will he," Teddy asked.
"I'm confident," Annie said, "we won't lose another Burton in this hospital."
"I know," Teddy said.
"Mama stop stressing we've got this," Annie said.
"Okay," Teddy agreed, "call me if you need me."
"Are you okay," Annie asked.
"We'll talk after," Teddy said, "I hadn't thought of him in a while."
"Neither had I," Annie agreed, "we'll talk after."
"Scrub out see the mom then my office," Teddy directed.
"I will," Annie said, turning back to the patient.
"Jenn are you okay," Annie asked as they scrubbed out.
"Yes," Jenna groaned.
"You're not," Annie said eyeing her friend, "what's going on?"
"Cramps or the worst Braxton Hicks ever," Jenna groaned.
"Let's go grab a seat and some water," Annie suggested, "you shouldn't have been operating."
"I have two days," Jenna said.
"Go rest and I'll deal with post op," Annie said.
"Intern," Jenna moaned.
"Eaket you have this right," Annie asked her favorite resident.
"Yes dr Altman," Eaket replied.
"Annie," Jenna said with wide eyes, "I think my water just broke."
Annie turned back to her friend and saw that her pants were wet and there was a puddle forming by her feet.
"Collins get a wheelchair and tell OB we're coming," Annie commanded, "page Dr Deluca stat."
Jenna braced herself against the scrub sink.
Annie stood beside her rubbing her back and asked, "what do you need?"
"Chris," Jenna cried, "I need my fucking fiancé."
"I'll call him," Annie said, "I won't leave you until he gets here."
"You can't leave me," Jenna said clinging to Annie's arm.
Annie took her phone out of her pocket and tapped on Chris's name.
"C you need to get your ass to the hospital now," Annie demanded.
"What's going on," Chris asked.
"Jennas water broke as we were scrubbing out," Annie said, "you need to get down here now."
"I'll grab her bag and I'm on my way where do I meet you," Chris asked.
"OB floor," Annie said, "use her last name."
"Anne stay with her," Chris asked.
"I'll stay as long as she wants me," Annie replied.
"Hold the phone up for her to hear me," Chris asked.
"Jenn, he wants to talk to you," Annie said, holding her phone out to her friend.
Jenna listened to what Chris was saying nodding with tears in her eyes. Annie stood behind her gently rubbing her lower back.
Jenna held Annie's phone out as the intern brought the wheelchair.
"Slowly," Annie said, "your okay Jenna."
"How are you so calm," Jenna moaned.
"Because it's not me," Annie admitted, "and I've done this."
"I want my epidural," Jenna groaned.
"When we get upstairs," Annie said, "see Carina first."
"Dr Deluca is dealing with an ectopic," the intern said.
"Cassidy or Steph," Annie asked.
"Steph," Jenna said, "she's done this."
"Page dr Mitchell," Annie commanded.
Annie stayed with Jenna while Steph did the exam.
"I need Chris," Jenna sobbed.
"I know," Annie said, "hold my hand. Do you want to keep moving?"
"Noo," Jenna cried, "I shouldn't have been operating."
"That's why you didn't want to be checked out," Annie said.
"I thought it would stop," Jenna cried, "where's Chris?"
"On his way," Annie said, "lean on me."
"Jenn," Chris said coming in.
"Chris," Jenna sobbed.
"It's okay," Chris said, "I'm here, we're okay."
"Jenn can I go tell Colton's mom it's good," Annie asked.
"Stay close," Jenna begged.
"I won't leave the hospital until I see my nephew," Annie said.
"Thanks Annie," Chris said.
"See you soon," Annie said, "you can do this."
"Don't go far," Jenna cried.
"I won't. I'll be in Peds, daycare or my office," Annie said, "I have my phone."
Annie walked to the OR waiting room.
"Ms Burton," Annie said.
"Is colton okay," Sarah asked.
"His being transferred to peds ICU," Annie said, "he's awake. He'll make a full recovery."
"Did you get them," Sarah asked.
"We did," Annie said, "Dr Silverstone has gone to another emergency. She got the whole spinal tumor and I got the heart one. I checked the chest cavity and it's clear. We'll schedule a follow up CT in a month."
"We can't," Sarah said.
"I'll talk to the Chief of surgery and see how we can help," Annie said.
"What's his name," Sarah asked.
"Dr Teddy Altman," Annie said.
"Your mother," Sarah asked.
"Yes," Annie said, "Colton is anxious and I know seeing you would help him feel better. I'll walk you then I have a meeting."
"What if he stops being okay," Sarah asked.
"Then the nurses will call me," Annie said, "I'm on call overnight."
"Do you have children Annie," Sarah asked.
"She's one," Annie replied, "she'll be with her dad tonight."
"You don't have to stay for Colton," Sarah said.
"I'm on call cardio tonight," Annie said, "for the whole hospital. It's one night every couple weeks."
"That's not too bad," Sarah said.
"We all take our turn," Annie smiled, "you go see Colton and I'll see you later."
Annie gave directions to the peds icu. Then crossed the catwalk to Teddy's office.
Annie let herself in and sat on the couch.
"Are you okay," Teddy asked.
"I am," Annie replied, "but I think I need a psych consult."
"Why," Teddy asked.
"I saw a ghost across the table," Annie said.
"Tell me," Teddy said.
"It was Henry," Annie said, "he was telling me I could do it and that he was proud of me. It was his voice and I'm sure of it."
"Maybe," Teddy said, "but your orcas your otters are your lucky cap."
"Henry's voice told me to wear it," Annie said, "t get right."
"You saved him," Teddy said.
"It's one tumor," Annie said, "did you talk to the mom?"
"We did," Teddy said, "about him."
"I still think about him," Annie admitted.
"We always will," Teddy said, "he was my husband and your stepdad."
"He loved us mama," Annie said.
"Exactly as we were," Teddy agreed.
"He said he was proud of me," Annie said.
"He would have been very proud of you," Teddy smiled, "he would have loved Ellie."
"It feels disloyal to dad," Annie said.
"No sweetheart," Teddy said, "he knows how important Henry was to us. The people we loved and who loved us are always part of us."
"There's a song from wicked," Annie said, "for good. You'll be with me like a handprint on my heart. I know I'm who I am today because I knew you."
"I remember that song," Teddy smiled, "you used to sing it at the cottage. Wicked drove Henry nuts."
"We made him see it," Annie laughed.
"Retaliation for the Mariners game," Teddy laughed.
"We were happy," Annie said.
"We were," Teddy agreed, "it was the first man I let in after your bio father."
"I've had too many dads," Annie commented.
"Bio, adoptive, two step," Teddy said.
"Three chose me," Annie said, "Henry taught us to trust."
"He did," Teddy agreed, "Sarah said that last year and a half was the happiest of his life."
"Good," Annie said, "you did that."
"We did," Teddy smiled.
Annie checked her phone.
"You keep checking your phone," Teddy commented.
"Jennas water broke when we scrubbed out," Annie said, "her and Chris are in OB."
"Jenna operated in labour," Teddy asked.
"She said it was just a sore back and some cramps. She said she was fine. I had no clue until we scrubbed out and she started complaining," Annie said, "she's with Steph. Carina has an emergency surgery."
"are you helping her," Teddy asked.
"She's okay but they want me around. I'm on call in the hospital tonight and Josh is off at eight so it's fine," Annie said.
"What about Ellie," Teddy asked.
"I'll get her fed in her jammies and a story and Josh will take her home," Annie said.
"She's a year you're still doing that," Teddy asked.
"When she's ready," Annie said, "there's no point forcing it. It's only when she wakes up in the morning, for naps and bedtime now. I'm letting her decide. If she doesn't want it I don't force it but it's a comfort thing. She eats a lot of food now."
"I went to say hi to Ali at lunch and they said Ellie was almost out of food," Teddy said.
"I know," Annie said, "I took my banana and yogurt up for her. I don't know where her appetite comes from."
"Josh," Teddy smiled.
"Probably," Annie said, "even then some days she just nibbles on food and prefers milk then theres days she eats everything."
"Does she have favourites yet," Teddy asked.
"Watermelon," Annie said, "avocado, chicken, sweet potatoes, salmon, toast. Ice cream when she can get it."
"My house," Teddy laughed, "what's the point of being grandma."
"Mama," Annie groaned, "then I'm mean old mom because I won't give it to her."
"It's a spoon full or two of mine," Teddy said, "not a whole bowl."
"That's what she gets when we have it," Annie smiled.
Annie's phone buzzed, she looked at it ,"Jenna wants me."
"Go help her," Teddy said.
Annie dashed up to OB and checked in with her best friend. She spent some time with her before going to see Ellie.
"I'll be back," Annie promised, "my baby needs me."
"At home," Chris asked.
"Daycare," Annie replied, "just down stairs."
"Come back," Jenna begged.
"I will," Annie promised.
Annie walked into the daycare at the same time as Josh.
"How was your day," Josh asked.
"Hard," Annie said, "and not over yet."
"What happened," Josh asked.
"Do you remember our first year of med school when my stepdad died," Annie asked.
"You went home for a week in the middle of our second semester," Josh said.
"I operated on Henry's nephew today," Annie said, "he had a heart tumor and has VHL it's what killed Henry."
"I remember," Josh said, "it took me weeks to get you to smile again. Are you okay?"
"It was hard," Annie said, "I just want to spend some time with Ellie before you take her home."
"Feed and story," Josh said.
"Jammies and cuddle," Annie said, "I hate on call nights. I want to be home with the two of you."
"I know you do," Josh said, "nights are hard. You only do it every two weeks."
"I know," Annie said, "I couldn't go home tonight anyway I need to be here for Jenna."
"Is she on call," Josh asked.
"Her and C are up in OB," Annie said, "we'll have a nephew in the next 24 hours."
"Are they okay," Josh asked.
"So far so good," Annie said, "I'll check in once you take Ellie home."
Annie and Josh spent some time with Ellie and got her ready to go home. Once the little girl had her fill of mommy snuggles, a full tummy and her story Josh carried her out to the truck. He knew she would be asleep by the time they got home.
When he got home Josh tucked Ellie into her crib and tidied the rest of the house. He made himself a frozen pizza for dinner and put the leftovers in the fridge knowing Annie would pick at it tomorrow when she got home around two . She would spend the night at the hospital and would take Ellie with her when she got off in the afternoon. Josh would do the morning with Ellie.
Annie walked towards the attendings lounge, "mama why are you still here?"
"It's only 7:00," Teddy said, "I'm just grabbing my stuff and heading home to kiss my babies good night. I was trying to get some more coverage for Colton."
"No insurance," Annie asked.
"Not enough," Teddy said.
"Can we give them my time," Annie asked.
"If you were an attending I could," Teddy said.
"Mama just give them my time," Annie said, "do it for Henry. He would have wanted us to."
"I'll see what I can do," Teddy said, "there's still medicaid and my probono fund before I don;t pay staff for surgeries."
"I want to make sure he gets better," Annie said.
"I married Henry to solve this exact problem," Teddy said.
"I knew that," Annie said.
"Are you okay over night," Teddy asked.
"I'll always hate being away from Ellie," Annie said, "but tonight is exciting."
"You'll be the first to see your nephew," Teddy asked.
"When they want me to," Annie agreed, "I made Jenna wait hours. They didn't know Ellie was here for 8 or 9 hours."
"I was the first to see her," Teddy said.
Annie settled in the Attendings lounge for a long night with her research, if she was going to stay she was at least going to get work done.
Hours later she was paged to OB. Annie ran up the stairs.
"How are you doing," Annie asked Jenna.
"I can't do this," Jenna whined.
"Almost there," Annie said, "I'll step out and see you soon."
"Stay," Jenna said gripping Annie's arm.
"You don't want me here for this," Annie said, "I'll be back as soon as he's here."
"Anne," Chris said looking scared.
"You two can do this together," Annie said, "I'll send Steph or Carina."
"Page them," Jenna whined.
"I will," Annie said, "you're okay. You can do this."
"What do I do," Chris asked.
"Hold her," Annie encouraged, "just be there and be calm."
"Annie can you get some water," Jenna asked.
"I will," Annie said, "I'm going down to our lounge because there's cold bottles in our fridge."
"Okay," Jenna groaned.
Annie walked down to the lounge for a bottle of water. She knew that Jenna and Chris needed to do this themselves, she wanted them to have that moment without her interfering. When she got back upstairs Steph was rushing into the room from the look on Steph's face Annie guessed it was only a matter of time.
Half an hour later Chris popped his head outside the door, "Anne come see your nephew."
"Are you sure," Annie asked.
"Come," Chris said, "he needs to see Auntie Annie."
Annie tip toed into the room and saw her friend feeding the baby, "Jenn he's perfect."
"8 pounds 2 ounces," Jenna said, "23 inches."
"Big boy," Annie said, "two pounds bigger than his cousin was. How are you feeling?"
"Exhausted," Jenna admitted, "I think he's done. Do you want to hold him?"
"Can I," Annie asked.
"Do you remember how," Chris asked.
"Fourth new baby this year I do," Annie smiled.
"Tyler this is your auntie Annie," Jenna said as Annie picked up the baby.
"Tyler you are perfect," Annie said holding the new baby close, "tomorrow your uncle Josh and cousin Ellie will come say hi. You are a very handsome boy. C, Jenn he's absolutely perfect. What's his full name?"
"Tyler Daniel Silverstone - McKellar," Chris said.
"Congratulations both of you," Annie beame, "Tyler mommy looks like she wants you back. Auntie will come see you in the morning. The three of you need to rest."
"Thanks for staying," Jenna said.
"Of course," Annie said, "I'm here all night if you three need me."
Annie quickly hugged Jenna and Chris before leaving.
