Katara smiled at her guests as she poured a few cups of tea for them. A few members from The Order of the White Lotus had returned to the Southern Water Tribe recently to confirm what she already knew; The Avatar had been born again, this time as a young girl named Korra. Katara knew her parents well enough and knew they were kind and loving, though overwhelmed with this new information.

"She's just so young…" One of the White Lotus sentries finally spoke up. "It's going to be another ten years before she should even start her journey." He was a younger man, having joined the White Lotus early on and Katara guessed he most likely had a child back at home.

"Avatar Aang was twelve when he was told of his destiny." One of the others countered. "And he has left us with the task of protecting and training the new Avatar as soon as possible. Are we supposed to simply ignore her and pretend she doesn't exist until she's a teenager? She's already shown us that she's trying to bend a few of the elements on her own." He made a valid point in that regard. Even if the White Lotus tried to leave her be, Korra had proven to be a feisty child, and would most likely try to learn on her own if she was left unattended. That could just as easily prove to be disastrous, not only for Korra's safety, but also to the Southern Water Tribe as a whole. After several more minutes of arguing, Katara finally decided to intervene.

"If I might suggest something…" Katara's old, gentle voice silenced the bickering men as they looked to her smiling, wrinkled face. "Though I do agree that it is far too soon to go on any sort of journey, I don't see any reason she could not begin water bending. Though they are still a bit uncommon here, I am beginning to teach other children around her age. This also gives all of you time to decide how much the White Lotus should be involved in Korra's own journey." The silence hung in the room for some time as everyone pondered the proposition. For now, at least it would give them the time to plan and prepare for Korra's future.

"Thank you for your offer and your hospitality." All three men bowed to her. "We will write to the rest of the Order that the search is now over. The next Avatar has been found."

(A/N: As I put in the description, this is going to be my own idea of what The Legend of Korra could have been. If you enjoyed the show, I can't really fault you for that, but I think it would have done better as a whole if it hadn't hyped itself up as the successor to such a beloved series. Instead my story is going to be an alternate universe where Korra takes a proper Avatar journey, learning more than just combat as she studies each of the elements. I'll be adding a few new faces along with some familiar characters hopefully. Tell me in the comments what you think should be changed and ideas for this series as a whole.)
