Sunday came, and Jacob was out the door rather early to catch up with some friends leaving Sam alone. It was about 11 am when her phone rang. Steven had realized that he knew nothing about Colorado Springs and went to Hyde's grocery that seemed like the most expensive place in town. When Sam confirmed that it was, Steven sighed. Sam said she wasn't busy and asked for his address. Today she would show him the city. Sam drove to his home, shocked at how close by Jack lives, just 2 streets down.
Sam got out of the car and knocked on the door. The house was small similar to hers. It was a stone cottage-style home. Steven came to the door dressed down, and Sam had forgotten how good he looked in jeans. She talked to Steven for a few minutes before going back outside to her car and taking him around town. She showed him all the shops and restaurants and bars. She showed him the local parks and drove him all around. It had taken 4 hours crisscrossing around and pointing and showing Steven all the places.
They had gone to the best grocery store in town. She showed all the regular pizza places and the barbecue that had the best brisket in town. She showed him the park, and they walked the path. Sam pointed out different things along the trail.
They get a snack at Gibbs's. Sam gets a milkshake, and Steven picks a messy hot fudge sundae with extra fudge, melted ice-cream covering the table. Sam is truly enjoying her time. They've never got to be carefree around each other, and this rare time showed her how easy it was to be with him. Hours pass, Sam hadn't realized how much time had passed when she pulled back into his driveway.
"Come in for some coffee?" Steven asked.
Sam agreed.
"So when do you suspect I'll have the time to get to all these places you showed me?" Steven asked.
"Well, that's about 5 years of knowledge, but I'm sure since I was showing you, it shouldn't take that long." Sam smiled.
Steven smiled back at her.
"I think that's what I've missed the most about you," Steven admitted.
Sam just looked at him.
"Your Smile, damn, even on the roughest day, you always seemed to find something to smile about," Steven claimed.
"A lot of times, that was you," Sam claimed.
Now it was Steven's turn, not knowing what to say.
"Is it wrong to think about it, us since I got here?" Steven asked.
"No, of course not," Sam said, knowing she too has had her head in the past as well.
"So it's okay if I do this?" Steven asked, holding onto her hips, pulling her close, and kissing her lips.
Sam didn't say a word but wrapped her hands around him as well, wanting it just as much as he had. The kiss was just how she remembered, but something she couldn't put her finger on was different. Sam had to think about the last time she had kissed a man. It had been far too long, and maybe just maybe, that was the issue.
Steven didn't seem to think something was missing. He was doing quick work to find the hem of her shirt and put his hands on her bare skin. She felt the heat of his hands, and she took a deep intake of breath. That familiar feeling coming back to her. She wasn't sure if this was moving too fast. After all, she's done this with this man on multiple occasions, and right now, it was feeling great. Sam finally had to pull away for a breath but stood close and didn't have Steven pull his hands away from her.
"This might not be the best idea while your training with SG-1," Sam said finally.
"Probably not. How many more weeks?" Steven asks.
"Just 2," Sam claimed.
Steven nodded, and he finally pulled away.
It didn't feel awkward, which Sam was expecting. It wasn't as if this was Jack with one of those moments they always seem to end up having. Then she shakes her head, wondering why Jack O'Neill comes to her head during this time of rediscovery.
Steven asks her to relax with him and turns on the TV. He flips it to an old western excited to see the movie, and Sam wasn't impressed. She didn't want to sit in stay watching an old black and white movie played in front of her. She had hinted several times about her disinterest in the film. Steven took the hint finally and moved on to something else he enjoyed, wrestling.
"You've got to be kidding me," Sam claims.
"No, I love this stuff," Steven claims as Sam rolled her eyes.
"Okay, okay, you pickā¦" Steven claimed.
Sam went through the discovery channel featuring a group of chimps and was getting into it as Steven claimed it was boring.
Sam looked at him, Okay what about something else? Read any good books lately?" Sam asks.
"Nah, you know, just something about this ring hidden underground takes people from Earth to a variety of other planets, really boring if you ask me," Steven claims.
Sam laughs. This is the Steven she remembers.
With that, the two fill the room with the conversation, this time some missions that Steven hadn't had the time to read through yet. After about an hour of Sam going on different trips, Steven is truly in awe.
"Are you sure I'm going to make it back through once I start with SG-3?" Steven asks.
Sam frowned.
"There have been plenty of people who unfortunately haven't. SG-1 has been extremely lucky, to the point I'm waiting for our luck to run out." Sam admitted.
"I mean, I read it, and I've been on the "frufru" planet as Jack names it. I've read the reports, and I feel like I'm either over exaggerating in my mind, or it really can't be that bad, no in between." Steven admitted.
"I can tell you there have been multiple occasions I didn't think I was going to make it back home. There would be times that I know if I were with anyone else other than SG-1, I would have been dead. I hope that you get along with SG-3 as well as I get along with the guys. It's so vital; teams of 4 are so much different. We often go with other SG teams, but most of the time, it's just SG-1, and the other teams get a lot of solo work too." Sam explained.
"Well, I officially meet them this week and work with them. I guess I am coming with SG-1 on your next mission." Steven explained.
"Yeah, that's going to be dicier than last time. We have a tendency of getting into odd situations even when things look fine. Look, Steven, I know you and the Colonel aren't getting along, and I'm not saying you won't, but just listen to him. We know what we're doing. I know he can come across as brash, but if he's rough, it's just because he's trying to save your ass." Sam claimed.
Steven nodded.
"Well, I really enjoyed taking you around town and will do it again if you need it, but I dad should be home anytime," Sam claimed.
Steven looked at the clock pushing 6 and nodded his head.
"You know it's so good to be working with you again," Steven claimed.
Sam smiled, and she let him kiss her lips quickly before she left his home.
Sam sat in her car for a good five minutes trying to get her brain to wrap around the last few hours of her life and wondering if Steven was who she should be going after.
Sam got home, her dad being dropped off as she pulled into up. He looked happy, and Sam was so glad she was able to give him this time. She couldn't imagine how hard it was. Her quick blending was a headache, painful memories not her own coming to the service. It felt like she was all over the place mentally. She knew her dad had had time to get used to his unique situation. She wished more than anything that it didn't have to be like this, but they both took what they good and enjoyed the time they had together.
Jacob and Sam walked through the door together.
"So, how was your day, sweetheart?" Jacob asked.
"It was good, dad, yours?" Sam claims.
"You know, it was good. I have a different perspective now, and it made me realize how much I can't stand some of those guys. I guess forget until I meet up with them again." Jacob explains.
Sam knows what her dad is talking about. She had a friend Shelby Murr when she was in Washington, and when they were working together, she was great, but if they went out after work, it was like the woman turned into a completely different person, and she cringed every time they went to get drinks.
"So I take it you went with Steven?" Jacob asks.
Sam's blush was enough to tell him he was right.
"So Sammy, just like you remember?" Jacob asks.
"DAD!" Sam claims
Jacob looks at her for a second.
"Sam, that's not what I was thinking, and you know it," Jacob claims.
Sam sighs, looking at her dad, "Is it okay just to be stuck in the past when I'm around him?"
"I think it's natural at first, but you can't let it dictate your life, your relationship now your different people, it's good to remember the old times, the good times but it's your choice if you're going to move on or stay in the past," Jacob claims.
Sam nods her head.
The two don't say too much more to each other as Jacob finds Sam's remote and switches it to a murder documentary.
Sam gives her dad a look.
"Selmack is intrigued by human's mental health issues," Jacob explains.
Sam shrugs her shoulders and watches. Jacob and Selmark have a conversation before Selmack asks Sam about her opinions about serial killers. Sam isn't sure she's studied enough to form an opinion and tells Selmack this is more of Daniel's field. Selmack suggests going to his home. Sam looks at her dad, not caring one way or another.
Jacob had never been to Daniel's place before and is unsure what it would entail.
Sam wonders how long Daniel will keep Selmack at the forefront, asking 100s of questions on various items scattered throughout his home. She makes a call, and Daniel indicates he is home and would love to have a discussion with Jacob and Selmack. Sam drives her dad to the apartment complex.
"Come in." Daniel greets Jacob and Sam. Jacob looks around.
"I've seen less in at the Met," Jacob claims.
Daniel smiles.
"These are some side projects of mine," Daniel claims.
Sam smiles.
"You and Sam two peas in a pod," Jacob claims.
Selmack asks Jacob to venture further to a tablet.
"Where was this found, Daniel Jackson?" Selmack asks.
"Well, everything in my apartment is from Earth. This is from Egypt, as are most things in here. My parents studied greatly in the area.
"This here, Jacob's fingers pointing to a bird-like object.
"This is a sign for a Tokra, used prior to my time," Selmack claimed.
"Huh, we've always believed it to mean shelter from the gods that smite, so that's kind of accurate," Daniel claimed.
Jacob smiled and nodded his head.
"Selmack is very interested in several pieces you have here, Daniel, but actually came in a discussion about serial killers," Jacob explained.
Daniel Jacob and Sam have multiple conversations. Selmack is able to give a lot of insight into some of Daniel's pieces he's been researching for years. Overall, everyone is happy it's approaching midnight before Jacob can pull Selmack and Daniel away from one another.
Jacob reminds Selmack of the flight out in the morning they're going to see Mark and the fact Sam and Daniel are both back at the SGC and require sleep. Finally, the group says goodnight before the new day begins.
