Chapter 2 – Twilight's Fall

After the appearance of the mysterious dark clouds had appeared along with the thundering noises, my sibling and I returned home to wait for any signs of sunlight to appear and cast away the bad weather… no miracles happened unfortunately.

For the next couple of hours, we spent talking about my home and the rest of the worlds in the universe… at first, it was interesting to listen. But then it got boring and repetitive. We decided to play a couple of board and video games to pass the time…

Luckily, the day had passed very quickly – we were so focused on our discussions, board and video games that we didn't even remember what we had for lunch or an afternoon desert. Unfortunately, the storm wasn't gone just yet…

Another thing that bothered me was that there wasn't any rain at all. What kind of storm was this exactly? I tried asking my mom or sibling if we've ever had a strange weather like this before… but they just shrugged. Guess it was the first time we ever had this kind of storm.

Dinner time had passed very quickly and we were back to discussing about different things along with playing some games. Soon, it was time for rest and that's what we did.

Two or three hours later… I was in my bed, but I wasn't sleeping – why? Cause I was thinking about the outside worlds again.

I couldn't help, but still wonder if Isamu was telling the truth about finding a way to leave Twilight Town and search for my home along with exploring the rest of the universe.

A part of me was doubtful that we could leave this town to explore the universe… along with the second half saying that we'll find a way to leave Twilight Town.

Now, don't get me wrong – I love Twilight Town and its wonders. But I want to go and experience a true adventure… not remain all summer at house and help out my mother.

Ugh, it's such a hard decision for me – stay in Twilight Town or leave to explore the rest of the universe…

My daydreaming thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door. "Yes?" I asked.

The door opened to reveal a young woman in her late 30s with long black hair and piercing green eyes. She wore a black t-shirt with white lines along with a blue jeans, a brown apron over them and flip-flops. This was my adoptive mother Kiyomi Noir and the look on her face was one of worry.

"Hey, dear… I thought you were asleep?" My mom asked.

I gave a sigh. "Couldn't… got something on my mind right now." I answered.

My mom closed the door and sat down on the far side of the bed. Looking out at the window, she gave a small chuckle. "Huh… storm's still going. What strange weather we're having, ain't that right Suk?" Mom asked and I nodded.

"Are you sure we've never had this kind of storm before, Mom?" I asked.

"I'm pretty sure, hun. Twilight Town has always been stuck in a never-ending sunset… this is the first time this world has experienced a storm like this one. Really strange." She replied.

"True… say, why aren't you in bed, Mom?" I asked with a curious tone.

"Oh! Couldn't sleep as well…" She scratched the back of her head with a worried look on her face that I noticed.

"Mom… is everything okay?" I asked.

"H-huh…? Oh, y-yeah! Everything is fun, Suk. Nothing to be concerned about – just having one of those off days." Mom was beginning to sweat – was she nervous about something?

"Mom, you don't seem okay. I know that something is on your mind." I pressured her to answer but she didn't do that.

She just turned and looked the other way. Is there something wrong with Mom?

"M-mom… are you okay?" I asked slowly.

Mom sighed heavily and looked at me with the saddest face ever. "Suk… are you happy living in Twilight Town – with me and your siblings?" She asked.

What kind of question was that? "Of course I'm happy! Why wouldn't I be, Mom?" I asked.

"W-well…" She grabbed my hands and sighed with the sad look still on her face. "Suk… I know you want to leave one day and find out where you home is. But I can't handle it… if you go exploring and searching for your world, I might not see you again for a long time. I'm scared… of something happening to you, Hana or Isamu." Mom looked away as I got up and gave a strong hug.

She was surprised by it. "Mom… don't be sad please. Nothing bad is going to happen… I know you are afraid of something happening to me whilst I go out to search for my home, but don't be scared. I just need to do this Mom… please." I pleaded with her.

"I know, hun… but it's still too hard for me to let you go on an adventure. I don't want to lose you, Asuka… even if you aren't my biological child, you are still a daughter to me no matter what." I smiled gently at my adoptive parent's caring personality – it was one of the reasons I loved her so much. But if I'm being honest: Mom can really be a stubborn ass sometimes.

"Mom… I'll be fine. I just need to do this so I can find out where I came from – please. I love living in Twilight Town and I love my family as well… but I feel like something is awaiting for me out there: my destiny. Please, Mom…" I pleaded with her as I released my hug hold over her.

My mother was currently fighting inside her body about what she should do – let me go and see what's out there or keep me prisoner in Twilight Town… eventually, she relented and sighed.

Looking at me with a sad smile on her face, she hugged. "Alright, Suk… I'll allow you to do it. But promise me you'll be careful… please." She pleaded.

"I promise you, Mom… just please stop embarrassing." I requested.

Mom let go off me and gave me a fake glare. "Asuka Kizaki-Noir, are you seriously telling me that you are embarrassed by your mother?" She asked whilst crossing her arms.

Rolling my eyes at her statement with a fake innocent look on my face. "Nope, dearest mother. I haven't the faintest clue what you are talking about." I replied whilst my mother deadpanned at me. "Don't make fun of your mother, Asuka."

"Yes, Mom… sorry." My adoptive parent smiled as thunder roared once again.

"Jeez…" Mom said with an annoyed look as she looked out the window whilst I laid back onto the bed. "What the heck kind of storm is this exactly… the weather forecast didn't mention anything about this at all – it was supposed to be clear and sunny all month." She explained to me.

"Meteorologists really suck at their jobs it seems…" I said as my mother nodded before continuing to speak. "True fact… I honestly don't understand why they can't do their- WHAT IN THE!?" My mother yelled in horror as I sat up with an alarmed look on my face.

"Mom, what's wrong? Is something the matter?" I asked but didn't get an answer as Mom ran out of the room.

What the heck was that all about…? Did Mom see something outside that freaked her out? Why did she scream exactly?

Luckily, I was going to get my answers when Mom entered my room once again with an exhausted look on her face. "S-suk… Hana and Isamu – they are gone!" She yelled.

I was in shock! Gone!? As in they aren't in the house!?

"What do you mean they are gone!? Aren't they in their rooms!?" I asked as I got up and slid on my boots. I still had my casual clothes on… but that wasn't important right now! Hana and Isamu are gone!

"No! Hana and Isamu aren't in their rooms… I don't know what's going on, Suk! I freaked out when I saw your sister outside in their very storm and now your brother is missing as well…" Mom leaned on the wall as she began to have panic attacks.

"Mom, mom, mom! Calm down, okay! I don't know what possessed Hana or Isamu to go outside in this kind of storm… but if you allow me, I'll go and find them. Just calm down, okay?" I requested.

Mom was surprised by my suggestion of going outside and it seemed like she was hesitant to allow to go searching for my siblings. "Asuka… I dunno if it seems like a good idea. Maybe its best I go out and find them…"

"Mom… please stop acting like a stubborn person and allow me to search for Hana and Isamu… I can do it. Just give me a couple of minutes and I'll bring them back… please." I pleaded with my mom as she relented and sighed.

"Alright, hun… but please find them quick and come back. I dunno why but I have a bad feeling about this storm. When you find your siblings, bring them back here quickly. Go and stay safe… please." Mom pleaded as we hugged each other and I ran out of the house.

When I got outside and looked at the sky, I was shocked at what I saw: a huge purple-like orb was being channeled in the air. What the hell is going-

"ASUKA!" A familiar voice yelled. Turning around, I saw Olette running towards me.

"Olette! Thank goodness you are okay! What's going on?" I asked.

"I have no clue! One minute I'm in my house and watching this damn storm – the next I see Hayner and Pence getting attacked by strange creatures outside!" Olette explained as I gasped in horror – strange creatures attacking the two boys? What's going on exactly…

"Are the boys okay, Olette?" I asked.

She shook her heads with tears falling from her eyes. "No! The creatures tore their bodies and two pink hearts came out of them! They disappeared in the brink of an eye!" I was shocked at what she told me – Hayner and Pence were gone!? My god…

Okay, remain calm Asuka… I can still handle this situation! First things first, I gotta make sure Olette is not panicking… which unfortunately was impossible to handle since she was crying heavily.

"Olette, please stop crying and listen to me!" Olette stopped crying, but the tears were still in her eyes. I placed a hand on her shoulder as she looked at me with the saddest eyes. "Olly, this isn't a time for panicking… first things first, we need to-" I was cut off by a black shadowy hand piercing Olette's chest much to hers' and mine's shock!

"OH MY GOD!" I screamed as the shadowy hand was removed and a pink heart came out of my friend's body and floated into the air. Soon, Olette closed her eyes and disappeared in a brink of an eye.

I was horrified at what I saw – how… when… I looked forward for the perpetrator of this awful crime which turned out to be a small shadow with antennas and golden eyes.

I glared at the small shadow – so, this is the little bastard that killed my friend? Well… we'll soon fix- I didn't finish the thought due to me gasping in horror – do you want to know why?

Because at this very moment, I saw something that I couldn't believe was possible – other small black shadows were coming out of the ground. Are they connected by chance to this storm?

I didn't have time to think due to them charging forward at me. Now here was the big problem – I didn't have any weapons to defend myself with. The only thing I could do in a situation like this was run away!

Two or three shadows were about to tackle me but I pushed them away with my hand and started to run to safety. I can only pray that Mom stays safe at our house whilst I'm running away from these small yellow-eyed monsters. I needed to find my adopted siblings quickly and then get back to the house before it's too late.

I was continuing to run as fast I could but the shadows were catching up to me… we were very close to the Sandlot. Unfortunately, no signs of Hana or Isamu yet. Where on earth were those two exactly and what kind of idiotic thought did they have when going out in this bloody storm or whatever it is!?

I had entered the Sandlot area and there I gave a gasp of relief as I saw one of the people I was searching for. "ISAMU! Thank god you are okay! WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU AND HANA THINKING!? DON'T YOU KNOW THAT IT'S DANGEROUS TO GO OUT-" I didn't finish due to Sammy turning around and looking at me with a tired look on his face.

Was it just me or did he seem more unusual and paler than before? Wait… why were his eyes all lifeless and without any pupils? "Asuka…" He spoke in a monotone zombie-like voice.

"S-sammy…?" I asked while approaching slowly to check on my adoptive brother – what's going on?

Before I could reach him, a gust of wind flew behind and took him high into the air much to my horror. "SAMMY!" I yelled as he flew into the giant orb.

No… Sammy… I couldn't protect him… what would I tell Mom or Hana… Sammy… I'm sorry… I'm so sorry I couldn't protect you… S-sammy…

Tears started to flood my eyes but I didn't cry because in front of me shadows came out of the ground and charged forward. Swatting them away, I turned around and ran to safety.

I had to find Hana… I can't lose her! I won't let her suffer the same fate as Sammy… no matter what.

I ran and ran… I had passed through the Market Heights and was about to enter the Station Plaza area. Meanwhile, the Shadows weren't giving up and were planning on finishing me off just like they did with Olette and her friends. Luckily, I wasn't about to give them that satisfaction.

I had arrived at the Station Plaza when I saw the second person I was looking for in this damn storm. "HANA! OH, THANK GOD! THEY HAVEN'T GOT YOU YET!" I yelled but didn't seem to listen to me. Was it just me or did she seem more focused on this storm?

I ran and got behind her. "Hana, what the hell were you thinking of going out in this storm!? Sammy is gone for good and Mom is worried sick! Hana, are you even listening to what I'm saying!?" I yelled in frustration – she was going to be in so much trouble when we-

"The door has opened, little sister…" She declared in a monotone voice with a hint of excitement.

My anger was gone and it was replaced with confusion. "The door? What door…? Hana, what are you talking about!?" She turned around and looked at me with joy on her face. "Asuka, the door has opened! Now we can go and find your home!" She declared.

"Hana, this isn't the time nor place for you to be sprouting gibberish! Sammy's gone and Mom is worried sick about you! We need to go back home now!" I yelled and pleaded with her to come back.

"THEY ARE COMING WITH US!" Hana yelled much to my shock – my adopted sister has never acted like this before. What's going on with her?

She sighed and looked at me with a gentle smile on her face. "Suk… this is our chance! The opportunity we've been waiting for! Once we step through the door, there's no turning back… we might never see our mom or brother again. It sounds harsh and rude of me, yes… but this is the only chance! We can't let fear stop us now! I'M NOT AFRAID OF THE DARKNESS!" She declared with the gentle smile on her face as she extended a hand for me to grab.

"H-hana…" I whispered slowly. What happened to her? She has never acted like this before… something told me that the storm is responsible for this behavior.

Suddenly, a strange purple portal-like pool formed under her very feet – tendrils of pure darkness began to wrap around her jeans much to my shock.

"Hana!" I yelled and ran forward to grab her hand only to get caught in the tendrils as well. My adoptive sister kept smiling as I continued to attempt to grab her hand.

It was no use as the darkness began to wrap itself around mine and my sister's torso. Hana stood with her hand opened and the smile still on her face. "Asuka, don't be afraid and take my hand. We can go and find your world… just embrace the darkness."

At this point, I didn't want to do anything else but take my sister's hand… I… I must embrace the darkness. I'm not a coward! I'll embrace it and take my sister's hand!

"Hana… help me please. I don't want to be left alone… please help me embrace the darkness. Please!" I pleaded with my adoptive sister – Hana was right. We can't let fear stop us! We aren't afraid of the darkness!

Hana's smile didn't left her lips and she grabbed my hand and pulled me into a hug. "Don't leave me, sis… please." I pleaded with tears as my eyes.

Hana giggled gently. "Silly Asuka… don't you realize something? No matter what happens, I'll never leave your side. You truly are a brave person… We've embraced the darkness together, little sister." I looked at her and couldn't help but smile. "Yes… we have, Hana. We've embraced the darkness…"

We both hugged each other as the darkness wrapped the last parts of our bodies and everything became black.

It was over… Twilight Town, Sammy, my friends and my mother… they were gone. But I didn't care… I was in the arms of my sister. I wasn't going to be separated from her no matter what – even at the cost of embracing the darkness. We'll find Sammy and Mom together. Nobody will stop us… no one.

(On the world known as Avalon Isle…)

"So… what exactly did Mom wanted to tell us?" Lyra was currently being questioned by her 16-year old sister Bloom whilst walking down the stairs leading to an unknown location inside the house.

"No idea… all she said was that we should go and check up with her in the basement. Mom told me that it has something to do with the fate of the universe." Lyra explained to Bloom who just nodded with slight confusion.

Bloom was the old sister of Lyra and Vanessa's second daughter. She had long orange-red hair that stopped just above her knees, pale skin and large cyan eyes. Her clothes consisted of a teal crop top with dark blue trim and pale yellow sleeves with blue slightly flared jeans that had stars on the bottom of the legs. Her shoes are yellow wedge-sandals with straps over the instep.

Bloom and Lyra were very inseparable even as a small children. They were often doing things together such as homework, spending time in the Avalon Isle Park, helping their mother with work… but they also spent time with Cassia and Fiero – their two best friends.

After being awoken by her mother, Bloom was told by Vanessa to come with Lyra down in the basement for an important conversation. The orange-red haired girl didn't have any clue on what was going on… but she nevertheless complied with her mother's request. Turns out that Lyra also didn't have a clue what was going on.

After finishing their breakfast, the two sisters headed down towards the basement where their mom was. They had no idea what their mom was about to tell them, but if they had to guess… it was something important.

Upon entering the basement, the two girls saw their mother typing something on strange computer. Bloom and Lyra had never been in the basement before since their Mom kept it locked for reasons vary… however, now they were here and it was time to see what was so strange about this place.

The basement was indeed a strange place – why? Because it resembled more of a technological/laboratorial garage with different vehicles, computers, desks with gadgets, instruments lying on the ground, etc. What a strange place indeed…

Vanessa was busy caught up in her work that she didn't notice Bloom and Lyra entering the basement area. The orange-red haired girl decided to make their presence noticeable by calling out to her parent. "Ahem." Bloom stated with a cough.

Vanessa raised her head with a slight shocked look until she sighed in relief when she saw who it was. "Ah, girls… you are here. Thank goodness." She stood up from the computer and walked over to a bookcase.

"Mom… are you gonna tell us exactly what is going on?" Lyra asked with Bloom having the same question in her mind.

Vanessa found was she was looking for and picked up a large book with a strange heart symbol on the cover. Walking over to a desk, she placed the book and ushered her girls to come forward. "What I'm about to tell you is extremely important and must not be revealed to anyone outside this room. Do you understand, girls?" The mother asked her confused daughter who just nodded.

Vanessa began opening the book. "Girls… you already are aware of other worlds besides Avalon Isle, right?" She asked.

Bloom and Lyra nodded – it wasn't a secret at all since their mom told them after all. "The truth is… the outside worlds were supposed to be a secret. Nobody was to discover that they were other places besides Avalon Isle… at least it was a secret until the Heartless came." Vanessa said with a small sigh.

"The Heartless…?" Lyra and Bloom both asked as Vanessa turned the pages of the book towards a particular title: The Heartless and Their Origins.

"The creatures of pure darkness – they are monsters that come out of the darkness in people's hearts. In every heart, there is darkness… if one submits to it, the being will become a Heartless. They are many Heartless in the universe – some are small while others big but with changes. If you ever encounter a Heartless, don't attempt to take it on… it will steal your heart within the blink of an eye. Understood?" Vanessa asked.

Bloom and Lyra both nodded with a slight fearful look on their faces – they hoped that they never had to encounter any Heartless lest they want their hearts stolen…

"Only a chosen wielder of the Keyblade can vanquish these creatures…" Vanessa explained to her daughters who became more confused than ever. "Allow me to explain – the Keyblade is an ancient weapon that the Heartless fear the most. It is only forged and wielded if the individual has a strong heart. It is used for both good… and evil." She explained and the two girls nodded.

"Which brings me to the main topic at hands – recently, the worlds have started to disappear one-by-one and the Heartless population is becoming more frequent than in the past. It means that trouble can't be far behind…" Vanessa explained with a sigh.

"What do you mean by "trouble can't be far behind"?" Lyra asked.

"Someone or something is creating more and more Heartless… why? I have no idea at all – maybe the mysterious being is working towards an unknown goal and that means trouble." Vanessa explained.

"How do you know this stuff, Mom…?" Bloom asked slowly.

Vanessa sighed – it was time to reveal the truth. "Because… I'm was once a Keyblade Wielder myself." Bloom and Lyra was shocked at this revelation! They didn't expect that to be said.

"Wait… you are a wielder!? But I thought you were a florist!" Lyra yelled with the shocked look on her face.

"That was just a smokescreen cover – it was to protect you and Bloom from the darkness. But I'm not the only wielder in the family, Lyra… you are one as well." Bloom and mostly importantly Lyra gasped in shock – the white-haired girl was a Keyblade Wielder as well!?

Lyra was looking down at the floor with the shocked look still on her face whilst Bloom glared at her mother. "Mom, why did you kept this from me and my little sister!? Why couldn't you have told us...?" Bloom asked with tears in her eyes.

Vanessa walked over and hugged both Bloom and Lyra. "Because I didn't want to endanger you both… this is my burden. Not yours…" She stated.

"But lying is bad, Mom… you should have just told us." Bloom cried as she continued to be hugged by her mother. She was still a bit angry at how this secret was kept from her and Lyra. How was her little sister feeling right now exactly…?

Lyra was still being quiet about the whole revelation and she didn't say a word. Vanessa stopped hugging her children and placed a hand on Lyra's shoulder. "Lyra… I'm really sorry. I didn't want to keep it a secret but I had no choice – I didn't want to endanger your lives. Lyra… if you are mad at me, I under-" Vanessa was cut off by Lyra hugging her.

"I'm mad at you, Mom… but I don't hate you. I'm just angry that you kept this from me and my sister… Why didn't you tell us?" Lyra asked as she released herself from her mother's hug hold.

Vanessa gave a sad smile and placed a hand on Lyra's shoulder. "I wanted to tell you… but I dunno if you or sister would have believed me. I'm really sorry for keeping this secret from your girls… can you forgive me?" She asked.

Bloom sighed but smiled nevertheless. "Only if you don't have any more secrets to share."

"Yeah, Mom... Bloom and I don't like hearing lies after all." Lyra gave a sad smile.

Vanessa smiled and nodded. "There aren't any other lies, girls. Just this one and that's it." Bloom and Lyra both looked at each other and nodded – they were glad that the issues was resolved.

"So… am I really a wielder?" Lyra asked and Vanessa nodded.

"But why hasn't she summoned her Keyblade yet?" Bloom asked.

"That's the question I'm asking myself… You have a strong heart and you were able to forge one inside your mind. Yet, I don't know why you haven't summoned your Keyblade yet, hun. Don't worry though… you'll be able to use it. Plus, it will be important for what's about to come." Vanessa explained.

"Do you have some sort of plan for me, Mom?" Lyra asked.

Vanessa nodded. "Yes, girls… it isn't just for you, Lyra. Bloom, you are also going to be a part of this… Now pay attention, girls – the information I'm about to tell you is very important. Are you listening?" Bloom and Lyra nodded.

Vanessa began to explain to both Bloom and Lyra exactly what was about to happen and what the two sisters' jobs were…
