Chapter 5
After they washed, dressed and ate, hand in hand Bonnie and Klaus made their way to the path that led to the half cleared area where the pool of dark water sat.
Klaus looked at Bonnie with confusion on his face. "Why are we here, my love?" Klaus asked, holding her hand still.
"We declared our love to each other, but I want to declare it before all of nature and the forest and its inhabitants, if that is well with you my lord?" Bonnie whispered, afraid that he would protest.
Smiling, Klaus drew her close looking into her viridian eyes, "I will pledge my love to you in front of all that may witness it, the gods, creatures known and unknown, even the demons. I love you, Bonnie." Bonnie let out the breath she was holding.
"Are you sure my lord? The wind will keep record of it." Bonnie inquired of him.
"Little witch, do you think me a fickle boy who once loses sight of what he has seeks to find another to replace it? Or that I am a man of no honor in my words or actions?" Klaus asked heatedly, a bit more forceful than intended, but he felt not only was his honor being questioned but also his love.
Taking his face in her hands she reassured him, "No my love. I know you are an honorable man, a noble man. I do not doubt your love for me or your fidelity. I did not mean to offend. I...I.." Bonnie didn't finish.
" I was harsh, too harsh, forgive me. I thought you doubted me. You are mine and I am yours and whatever you ask, I will give it. Never think that you have entangled me with you womanly ways," Klaus smirked, " You are my wife, in my heart", Klaus took her hands and placed them on his chest over his heart as he spoke. "You are the wife of my soul and although I need no ceremony to prove or validate this union between you and I, as I said I will proclaim my love and your status to the four corners of the world."
They stood gazing into each other's eyes. As the lovers faced each other, the wind blew causing the trees to sway, the branches losing their leaves which danced gently around the two. The sprites swirled and flickered, the woodlawn creatures stood silently, and the spirits and wraiths, and all of nature watched the couple, witnessing this special union.
Bonnie was so full of love and happiness. "I give to you my heart, my soul, my body and my fidelity. I claim you as my husband, my lover, my mate. I make this promise before the heavens in front of the gods and the First Witch and all that magic and nature have created. To you I am eternally bound." Bonnie solemnly pledged, holding his hands and gazing into sky blue eyes filled with love and adoration.
"All that I am, all that I have I pledge to you. I will protect you, I will keep you and I will honor you. Before Fenrir and all the gods and the First Witch(whom he had no knowledge of) and all that magic and nature have wrought, I make this vow. I am eternally bound to you." Klaus promised as tears fell from his eyes due to his overwhelming emotions.
Husband and wife walked back to their hut high on love and the magic that was in the air. Once at the door Bonnie opened it but before she could walk in, Klaus picked her up and entered the hut using his foot to shut the door, then walking to the pallet. They made love again as the morning turned to afternoon.
The lovers held each other caressing and touching one another, not wanting to let go, but knowing their time was soon over.
Klaus was leaving with more than he came with and for that he was most fortunate and thanked the gods. Over the time spent with Bonnie she had made him clothing, two more linen under tunics and trousers, all of which fit perfectly. He was sure she used magic to some degree. The items were soft and fine yet sturdy and beautifully embroidered with his family crest and the trousers were leather and multi-colored and stitched intricately, these things he places in his rucksack that she also made.
They worked quietly gathering items for him to take. She gave him more salve to continue with their regiment and mixed herbs that would help with any wounds or illnesses.
Klaus walked up behind her, pressing her back into his chest, hugging her with his face in her neck taking in her scent. He pressed his hands over her flat stomach and hoped that one day the gods would grant his seed to take root in his woman. He smiled to himself thinking he would have 100 babies with her if possible. He knew they would be strong and fine.
"Dear husband, I can hear your thoughts and if you do not stop, I will not allow you to touch me," she teased as she swatted his hands away from her belly. Klaus chuckled.
"Witch, what is it that you think you know?" He asked, smiling still holding her.
"Tis easy to read. Do you think your seed has taken root so quickly?" She questioned.
"Is not your husband a virile man? The gods will bless us with many sons, I am sure of it. My own mother has given my father five sons and two daughters" Klaus stated rather cocky.
"Indeed my husband you are a virile man." Bonnie turned around in his arms and kissed him.
He put her away from him and removed the necklace from around his neck. "Take this, besides you, it is my most cherished possession. It is from my mother."
The necklace was a silhouette of a wolf howling pendant of sterling silver attached to a leather strap. Bonnie had admired it and even lovingly touched it while he slept.
"I cannot take something so valuable to you." She stated as she pushed the necklace back, he stayed her hand. "Would you deny your husband and reject his wedding gift to you?" He looked down at her hurt by her actions.
Quickly shaking her head, "No husband," she responded as she pulled the necklace over her head. Smiling, looking up at him she replied, "Thank you."
Excitedly she turned away searching for something on the table, over her shoulder she exclaimed, " And I have something for you." Turning around with a smile that took his breath away, she held her small hands closed tight over her gift, while giggling at him. She was in a playful mood.
Smiling back Klaus asked teasingly, " Well wife must I decipher what is in your hands or shall I divine with the magic I have captured from you?"
He grabbed for her hand but she quickly averted his capture, moving far quicker than he would have expected from her "You are a brute, my lord," she said as she ran around the table still concealing her gift. "You must close your eyes," she said whimsically.
Trusting her, he did as she bade. She walked to him, with one hand she took one of his and opened his hand so that his palm lay open the she gently placed her give in his hand.
"Open your eyes," she instructed.
Klaus opened his eyes to see a small bird's egg. Bonnie smiled watching the confused look on Klaus' face. "Just watch it." Bonnie directed. Bonnie whispered a spell.
In astonishment Klaus watches as the egg grows and then bursts open releasing a small black raven that grew large. Flying out of Klaus' hand to move around the room then land on Bonnie's outstretched hand.
Petting the smooth black feathers, Bonnie looked up, " This is Anthus and he will be your faithful companion and will follow you wherever you go unless you tell otherwise. He will also send and retrieve messages for you. He will only obey your voice," shyly she continued, "And mine."
The black raven was as big as a hawk and a fine looking bird, but Klaus wondered if the bird would follow since ravens were less inclined to associate with humans; many men thought to train them and failed.
Sensing his uncertainty, Bonnie said, "Command it to do your bidding, my lord."
Klaus extended his hand and the bird came to him without hesitation, then Klaus walked to the door opening it and then whispered to the bird. On swift wings the bird took flight. Klaus turned with a smile to see his wife looking bewildered.
"What did you command," she asked. Walking to her he tapped her nose then kissed her forehead. "Aren't you the impatient one, little witch," he chuckled.
Within minutes the bird returned with a yellow wild flower in its mouth. He flew straight to Klaus and presented the flower. "Thank you, Anthus," Klaus said. The bird bowed its head and then flew back out the door.
Klaus grinning from ear to ear stoop in front of Bonnie and gave her the flower. "And thank you my dear wife," he said as she took the flower in her hand.
Then he lowered his head and their lips touched, a soft brush then more urgently as their tongues danced and swirled. Before things could go further Klaus pulled away.

As they walked through the dense forest Klaus saw sprites and spirits and creatures he had not seen before. He marveled at the magical creatures in the forest.
"Why had I not seen all this before," he questioned.
"Because you were a stranger to the forest, but now you are not. You may come without worry of harm but be warned, the sprites are mischievous and cannot always be trusted. They like to play." Bonnie cautioned.
"Then it is true, the stories I have heard of men coming into the woods and never returning?"
"Aye, not all the inhabitants are benevolent. And not all men come with good intentions.
"I see," is all he said as they continued to walk. And as they did Anthus followed high in the sky.
Deep in thought, Klaus stopped walking as they neared the edge of the forest. Looking into Bonnie's confused eyes, he spoke, "Why do you stay secluded?"
Once Bonnie was free of her servitude she fled to the forest and built a home there. She looked at him and simply stated, "It has always been. It is my home."
"Would you make a home with your husband," he probed.
"I wish not to leave, but if he bids me go then I will obey my husband if it pleases him," she answered honestly.
Klaus was conflicted, he saw the fear and apprehension in her eyes as she declared she would go with him, and he wanted to command her to leave, but he could not bear to break her heart for his own selfish gain...not now, but a time would come, he was sure of it.
"Come, let us talk of these things at a more opportune time, now you will send your husband off with a kiss and merry countenance." Klaus pulled her close, their lips saying all that their words could not. In that kiss they poured their love, their sadness and their promise to be reunited soon.
