Chapter 18

"I rather be a bitch than a whore who thinks she could ever be a mate to a man like Klaus. You do well to listen and listen well. I am Niklaus' wife, I am a Mikaelson and you will damn sure respect my status even if you do not like it."

After a moment's pause to process what Bonnie had said, Aurora lunged for the young woman, but Bonnie anticipated her move, pushing Henrik out the way, she twirled past the angry woman escaping her grasp while positioning herself behind her, pushing her into a few people standing near.

With a harsh grunt and a push Aurora turned around and again lunged after the girl standing there waiting for her. This time as Aurora lunged at Bonnie she had a dagger in her left hand that was hidden in the folds of her dress.

Lunging at Bonnie with the knife in hand, Aurora thrust the blade forward aiming for Bonnie's neck or face, anywhere she could disfigure her opponent. During the commotion the Mikaelson clan rose, rushing to Bonnie's side but the crowd of on-lookers blocked their way, now there were cheers and shouts as the two women engaged in battle.

The fight ended quickly as Bonnie, seeing the blade coming for her blocked the descent by forming an X with her arms, grabbing Aurora's wrist, Bonnie brought it down heavily on her knee, twisting the knife from her. In response Aurora swung at Bonnie with her right hand, hitting her on her jaw.

Bonnie stepped back, letting go of the broken wrist, touching her bruising chin. Aurora smiled, going in for another punch, but Bonnie blocked it then head butt her, knocking her back, hard enough to bruise her nose, but not break it. Next Bonnie threw a right hook knocking Aurora to the ground.

Bonnie stepped back, allowing the woman to get up, finding no honor in hitting her while she was down. Dazed and wobbly Aurora stood to her feet, swaying and seeing stars, but she swung again, but Bonnie stepped back and the punch did not make contact. Again Aurora swung and again she missed.

"I will not fight you anymore Aurora. It is over." Bonnie stated, watching the women, who, she now pitied.

Aurora looked around, seeing the laughing faces, seeing the pity in Bonnie's eyes, she couldn't take it, she lunged again, but this time she hit a brick wall. Klaus had finally made it through the crowd and was now standing between Aurora and Bonnie.

"Enough," he hissed looking down at her with cold eyes. He grabbed her upper arm and harshly ushered her away with him, the crowd parted to allow him to pass as well as Bonnie, who followed.

"Alright, alright, by Odin," with a smirk on his face, Mikael yelled, "That was a sight to see and a lesson learned. Now let the merriment continue."

Esther leaned over to whisper in Mikael's ear, "Our new daughter is a fine fighter, she could have easily mortally wounded Aurora."

"Or further humiliated her, but she practiced restraint and compassion," Mikael finished his wife's thought. "She is indeed a gift from the gods," he finished musing.

Esther smiled, "Indeed." Esther repeated.

Where Mikael saw the vestige of a sweet, young girl, Esther saw much more. She would bring a calmness to Klaus, she already had, but the witch was not all sunshine and light. She was like the still sea, at peace, restful and deceptively tranquil. But Esther could sense that the tiny witch had a ruthlessness and dark determination that rivaled Klaus'. She would make for a terrifying and deadly enemy, while proving to be a loyal and trusted ally, Esther thought to herself.

"What the hell was that about? Are you mad? Damn you woman! Answer me. What do you think you were playing at?" Klaus yelled at Aurora as he shook her violently by the shoulders.

They walked away from the great hall down to the shoreline far from prying eyes and sensitive ears, although the way Klaus was shouting, Bonnie was sure anyone could hear without difficulty.

Bonnie placed a hand on his shoulders, calming him instantly. The interaction was not lost on Aurora.

More calmly he ordered, "Speak!" He was still angry, but he knew he had to calm down or he would strike the woman and shame himself, although, he rationalized, that she deserved it.

Playing the victim, Aurora began sobbing, "How can you yell at me and treat me thus when it is you…" she glared at Bonnie as she continued, "...And her that have disrespected and humiliated me."

Klaus looked at the woman and wondered how he could have ever thought her to be beautiful. As if the gods had given him an epiphany, Klaus realized that her beauty was diminished in his eyes by her actions. He had once thought her to be a fair and beguiling woman, and even after knowing of the lovers she had taken up, he still thought her beautiful, but now the ugliness of her character overshadowed what he once admired about her.

Shaking his head in disbelief, but complete understanding, he turned to Bonnie communicating to her wordlessly, she bowed slightly with an understanding smile and walked a few yards away from them, allowing them to speak in private.

Klaus sighed heavily. "Aurora you humiliated yourself when you decided to disrespect my wife." He lifted a hand to stop her from speaking. "Yes the manner in which I told you was unkind and rather harsh and for that I do apologize. But make no mistake, Bonnie is my wife and I will not allow you or anyone to ever disrespect her or harm her in any way. This is your one and only warning."

"How could you? What about us? You bed me and you promised me marr-"

"No," Klaus interrupted, "I never promised you marriage. That is something that you wanted and thought up in your own head. But let's not play games. There is no love. There never was. I am not a fool. I knew about your lovers. I always knew. I even know about Bjorn." Klaus watched her as different emotions danced across her face, stopping on shock.

"How...what..I never…," she stuttered, trying to gather her thoughts for a reasonable lie.

" I told you, I am not a fool, please don't make it worse by lying to my face pretending to be the cast off faithful lover."

"Alright, alright, yes I admit it. I had lovers, because you were always gone, but I do love you," she pleaded. A part of her wanted to believe her words were true and maybe a fraction of it was; she did love him, but whatever measure it was, it was conditional. Her love for power and status was truer and greater.

Klaus looked at her as he raked his hand through his hair, "I do not love you. I never uttered those words to you. We warmed each other's bed, but that was all it was, all it was ever going to be and you know it."

Aurora stood staring at him with a stoney face. "It's her fault, you know. I could have made you happy, it could have worked. I should be your wife. You speak of love now, but where was such talk?" She scoffed. "Clearly she has done something to you. Before you left, war and carnage were your wife and mistress. Now you speak as one with a heart, but you are cold as the grave and just as heartless."

Klaus looked at the woman, knowing she was correct, in part, and speaking from anger and possibly hurt, but he would not allow her to overstep her boundaries. "A man does not know what he wants until it is given to him," he simply said, softly. Then he continued, his tone a bit harsher, "Be careful with which words you speak Aurora, I will not suffer much more of your venomous tongue." He warned.

Aurora sobered up, reigning in her hatred. She defiantly wiped at the tears streaking her face, squared up her shoulders, and with a final look she muttered, "You are a fool to trust her, she will bring you down." Then she walked away, heading for her longhouse instead of going back to the great hall.

As Aurora walked, she was seething with hatred for the dark skinned girl. How could that welp of a girl ruin all her plans, she thought. Clearly she hadn't planned on Klaus knowing about her little dailances, but she was sure she could smooth that over.

It was the girl she had to get rid , she would get her revenge on the girl. A small but fatal accident would befall the girl...yes..yes…, she thought to herself. Lost in thought she didn't realize that she wasn't alone.

"What do you want? To gloat? To humiliate me more...what?"

"I thought you might want some company, a bit of a distraction from current events."

"What I want is a way to secure my status and a good fucking," she smiled wantonly, "Do you think you can handle that?" She licked her lips as she stepped closer to her companion.

"I am sure I can assist you in both those endeavours."

She took his hand, guiding him into her house, with a seductive smile she replied, "I hope you can because that little girl was right about one thing, your brother is an amazing lover."

"I'll let you be the judge of whose better," Elijah said as he closed the door behind them.

In the shadows, unbeknownst to them, a silent witness stood with angry eyes, having seen the interaction between the two. The lone figure stealthily walked back towards the great hall.

Bonnie stood a ways off allowing Klaus and Aurora to speak in relative private, as she stood looking out over the sea a flash of big, brown eyes with long curled lashes flashed before her mind's eye, then she heard, "Kahina...Kahina...please Diyha, you must leave...NOW!"

Klaus walked up to her, putting his arms around her, startling his wife out of her thoughts. Bonnie gasphed then smiled when she realized it was Klaus.

"Did I startle you, love? I didn't mean to." He said as he held her close, kissing her on her temple, holding her from behind, standing behind her as he looked out over the still water.

She smiled, although she knew he couldn't see her face, "I was far away and didn't realize you were near," she explained.

"And where was my wife's head," he inquired curiously, suddenly worried.

"Nowhere important," she deflected. She leaned back further into him, allowing him to hold her weight. Resting her head on his chest, she questioned,"All is now as it should be?"

"I am ashamed that my actions have caused you any disrespect or offence. I would that it had never happened, but I have handled it. She has been made exceedingly aware that I shall not tolerate any more offences to you or your status as my wife."

"Hmm...a woman scorned or one that believes she has been, is a dangerous woman indeed."

"Hmm…" Klaus pondered what she said. "She's been warned. I will kill her if she dares to harm you in any way."

"You are a good husband. Do not lay the fault at your feet. And I would not have you kill a woman for my honor or my life."

Klaus released her so that he could turn her around to face him. "I have killed for far less egregious transgressions." He cupped her face in his hands, "You are my everything. I told you before, there is nothing I wouldn't do for you. Do you not trust my words?"

Looking into his cerulean eyes, seeing love reflected back, she smiled, "Never doubt my trust and faith in you. But also never forget that I can take care of myself and I would not dishonor you by allowing you to end a woman for my benefit. Surely your wife can handle such a small inconvenience."

Klaus chuckled, "Aye she most certainly can," he said before he lowered his head to press his lips to hers. A gentle kiss, at first, sealing their promise to each other, but as they moved to embrace each other more passionately, so their kiss deepened.

Their tongues dancing and twirling with and around each other as their hands frantically grabbed and groped at each other as they tried to move closer. Suddenly out of frustration Klaus ended the kiss to Bonnie's disappointment. But before she could question him, he swiftly lifted her up in his arms, cradling her, he began walking to their longhouse.

His strides were purposefully long as he marched them to their house as Bonnie wrapped her arms around his neck giggling. At the door she opened it. He carried her over the threshold then kicked the door shut behind him.

Anthus watched them from his perch. He had a look of boredom on his face, but when Klaus gently planted Bonnie's feet on the ground and continued kissing her, he cawed and flew towards them.

They continued kissing, not paying attention to the bird, to his dissatisfaction, so he continued cawing at them until Klaus detangled himself from Bonnie with an oath. "Damn bird," he muttered as he walked to the door, opening it. Anthus immediately flew out.

Bonnie gigled, "I think he is jealous," she chuckled. Klaus shook his head and chuckled himself, "He is my trusted companion, but he knows who commands my heart."

Bonnie reached out for her husband, fisting his tunic bringing him closer, "And who would dare command the fierce and noble Nicklaus Mikaelson?" She teased.

He smirked, "Surely you know there is only one woman that can command me and I would willingly obey."

"Ahh..yes the queen mother," Bonnie playfully retorted as she slowly smoothed his vest from his shoulders, letting it fall from his arms to the floor.

"Ahh.." Klaus smiled, tapping her on her cute nose, "Indeed, mother does hold sway over my actions, in most cases, and there is nothing that she cannot ask that I would not do, but I believe my lovely wife knows of what woman I speak."

Bonnie smiled as she continued to rid him of his clothing by lifting his arms to pull his tunic over his head, "Ahh, yes Rebekah does have you wrapped around her finger," she playfully countered.

He was now shirtless and she was working on unfastening his trousers, Klaus growled, "Woman," as he picked Bonnie up and walked to their bed. He fell upon the bed with her cradled in his arms. He turned so that she was now on her back and he was hovering over her, using his elbow for leverage.

He moved his hand under her dress, trailing up her leg, rubbing her silky thigh, "It seems that my wife is indeed in a playful mood." He said with a smile as he showered her face and neck with kissed, continuing to rub her thigh,

Bonnie was giggling as she looked into his beautiful face. Still using his elbow to carry some of his weight as he gazed into her eyes. His look was so intense that Bonnie sobered and stopped laughing.

As he looked at her Klaus felt humbled by her beauty and the love he saw in her eyes. He wanted her to understand him completely, to know the man that she called her husband, because he knew he could never let her go, even if she despised him for it.

With the hand he was using to rub her leg he lifted it to cup her face. "I was born of death and blood. I have walked closely with the dead and I have reveled in it. I have killed without remorse or afterthought. I have been cruel and merciless," he said softly." Bonnie tried to interrupt him, but Klaus put his finger to her lips to keep her silent. "Listen. I will have you know all of me, every part. I rage and there are times I see threats where there are none and the gods burden me with great purpose."

"I don't know if I have a heart or how black it must be, but know this Bonnie Mikaelson, of the clan Mikaelson, whatever state, whatever size, you and you alone command this heart that beats within my chest. Always and forever." He solemnly promised.

Bonnie grabbed his hand, bringing it to her heart. As a tear glided down her cheek she spoke from her heart. "You are my husband and my lord. Your heart is beautiful, whether it is as black as obsidian stones or as mischievous and wicked as the god, Loki and it belongs to me."

She continued, "I will always stand by your side. If you rage, I will calm you; if you are mad, I will tell you and if blood and death appease the gods then I will shed blood and reign down death with you." She kissed the tears from his eyes, planting sweet kisses down his cheek until she met his lips.

Slowly they kissed each other as they reverently finished removing the last remnants of their clothing. Sensuously, hands teased and touched; eagerly, lips and tongues tasted and licked and their hearts beat rhythmically as one.

They worshipped each other's body, freely giving and taking pleasure, completely enraptured in each other. Having no care for the morrow they made love wildly, lovingly and with reckless abandon and as they climaxed together and Klaus spilled himself in her, knowing a perfect peace, he knew that for her, whatever price the gods ever wanted him to pay, he would gladly pay it.
