I spent the ten hours of my flight listening to music and sleeping, so time passed very faster and I soon arrived to New York, where I had to take another plane to Denver.
While I was walking among all the shops of JFK Airport, I felt my iPhone vibrating in the pocket of my jeans: I pulled it out, and between the notification of an app and the SMS of my telephone company that welcomed me in the USA, I saw another message, sent by a number that I hadn't saved on my phone.
The words I read were the following: "Hello G, I'm Sheila Brofloski and I'll be your host mum for this year :)! I've seen that you've arrived in New York, was your first flight comfortable?"
It was the first information that I had about my host family (they are kept secret until you arrive there), so I smiled and answered quickly: "Hello Sheila, nice to hear you! Yeah, it was pretty good, thank you"
Another answer: "Fine, I'm happy for you! I only wanted to tell you that when you'll arrive in Denver, we'll be waiting for you in the external parking zone and then we're going to reach South Park with my husband's car. We're looking forward to see you, my sons are incredibly excited! Don't forget to cover yourself, it's really cold here..."
"Perfect, see you in a few hours, bye!"
I was excited, too: I have no brothers, but I always wanted to have one.
My idyll was interrupted by the cracking voice of the speaker, that was telling me that the boarding for my following flight was beginning, so I walked there, more and more curious for that new experience.
I landed in Denver at 6 a.m., right on schedule, I took my luggage and reached the parking zone.
The weather was sunny but harsh, and I started asking myself where could my new family have been.
The answer wasn't so difficult, because when I saw a panel marked with the words "Benvenuto G" (Welcome G) I understood that they were the right people and walked there.
"Welcome to Colorado!" exclaimed a corpulent woman, with the red hair collected in a big chignon "I'm Sheila, the woman that texted you a few hours ago, nice to meet you!"
"Nice to meet you, too!" I said, shaking her hand
"Was the trip tiring?" asked her husband, a brown-haired man with a pink kippah, taking one of my suitcase "I'm Gerald, by the way"
"Well, I made something shorter" I laughed "But I'm very happy to be here!"
At that moment I saw two heads emerging from the back of the panel: the first one wore a green winter hat, the other one was smaller, oval with a few black hair.
I smiled at them: "I guess you are my new brothers..."
"And I guess you got the right answer, dude!" answered the older of the two "My name is Kyle, and this is my Canadian adoptive brother Ike"
"Boder" repeated the other one with a innocent smile
"Well, later there will be time for formal presentations" said Gerald "There are two hours between here and South Park, jump in the car!"
During the trip I had the opportunity to know my host family better: Kyle was nine and Ike was two, Gerald was a lawyer and Sheila a housewoman.
"As you might have understood, we are Jewish" explained Sheila "I hope this doesn't upset you if you aren't"
"Mum, relax, he's not Cartman" said Kyle
"I respect all the religions, and this is independent from my faith" I clarified "Who's this Cartman?"
"He's one of my schoolmates" explained Kyle "He always makes fun of me because I'm Jewish"
"Don't worry, I won't do that" I reassured him
"Guys, we've almost arrived" Gerald informed us
I looked out of the window and I soon noticed something strange: "Is that snow?"
"Yes" confirmed Sheila
"But it's only the beginning of September..." I pointed out
"Here in South Park there are only two seasons, Winter and July" declared Kyle "I know it's irrational, but here it's normal"
The car stopped in front of a green house, with a little garden, where there was another kid with a brown coat and a blue hat: "Who's he?" I asked
"Oh, he's my best friend" explained Kyle "When I told him that I would have had an Italian brother he was almost more excited than me: I think he also wants to know you"
"Well, this is impressive" I laughed "I feel like the Italian president!"
Everybody in the vehicle laughed, and when I opened the car door the kid approached us: "Hi, Stan" greeted Kyle "He's G"
"Nice to meet you, G!" he smiled "Are you ready to visit South Park?"
"Stanley, let him breathe" intervened Sheila, sweetly "I think he's too tired to sightsee"
"Dude, she's quite right" I said "But I promise that tomorrow morning you can bring me wherever you want"
"Ok" accepted Stan "See you tomorrow, guys!"
He went home and I entered the house: it looked simple, but welcoming, and after a Chinese dinner Sheila invited Kyle to show me my bedroom.
We walked upstairs and the kid opened a door: "This is our bedroom"
It wasn't an incredible room, pretty small and barren, but I immediately noticed a poster: "Einstein, huh?"
"The greatest scientist of all history" sentenced Kyle, putting his pyjamas on "I'm so happy to have you here, I've always wanted an older brother!"
"And I've always wanted a younger brother!" I exclaimed "I'm sure that I'll get along well with you"
Kyle smiled one last time and turned off the light: "Goodnight, G"
"Goodnight, Kyle"
The following morning I woke up, and after a rich breakfast I left home with Kyle, that told me: "Stan is waiting for us at the bus stop"
Kyle's best friend was there with other two kids: the first one was really fat and wore a red jacket and a blue hat, while the second one was almost totally covered in an orange coat.
The big one looked at us and said: "Well, I guess this is the refugee hosted by the Jewish: Anne Frank's story in reverse..."
"Shut the fuck up, Cartman" exclaimed Kyle "G is a student, not a refugee"
"So, is he the famous Cartman?" I asked
"Kyle has already tell you about me, I see" Cartman smirked
"Yeah, and not in a good way" I confirmed "Try again to call me "refugee" and I'll send you to watch the flowers' roots"
Cartman's smirk disappeared and the other kid laughed and said something that I didn't get: "What?" I asked
"The usual Kenny..." commented Stan "Don't worry, you'll learn to understand what he says in a short time, let's go!
We started walking down the streets: "As you can see we don't have too many things here" explained Kyle "Just a few shops and restaurants, including the "City Wok", that is where we ordered yesterday's dinner"
"Look, this is our school" said Stan while we were walking near to a yellow building
"Yeah, the worst place in the world" declared Cartman
Suddenly we a blonde woman went out of the school, arguing with a man: "Wow, those are principal Victoria and our soccer coach" explained Stan "But I don't know what's happening..."
We approached them, and the man shouted: "I leave this school, the level is too low"
"You can't, we don't have any substitute" the principal begged him "Who's going to train the kids?"
"It's not a problem of mine" sentenced the coach "Goodbye"
The man left the conversation and the principal muttered: "What an asshole!"
Stan looked sad: "I don't want to stop playing soccer"
Kenny said something, and I think he was agreeing with him.
At that moment, Kyle smiled: "I have an idea"
He winked to me, but I didn't get the reason why he did that, and then he took the floor: "Hello, principal Victoria, is there any problem?"
"Yes, I think that we have to melt the soccer team..." said the teacher, sadly
"Well, I think I have a solution to this problem" sentenced Kyle "Right in front of you"
"I'm not following you, Kyle" admitted principal Victoria
"This is G, the student that I'm hosting this year" explained Kyle, pointing at me "He's a strong football fan, so I'm sure he's perfect for this role"
I made a surprised face: I wasn't expecting that, but I immediately showed my most convincing expression: "Yeah, it would be fantastic to train them, I did it also in Italy"
The blonde woman looked at me, sighed and said: "Well, the beginning of the school is near, so it seems that we don't have an alternative: welcome on board, G, see you in a few days, guys"
The principal left us, and Kyle smiled at me: "I've found you a job in just a day, am I or not the best brother in the world?"
"Yeah, I think you could be" I laughed, hugging him
"So, should I call this pizza maker "coach?" asked Cartman
"No, G is enough" I concluded "But I think you're going to spend the whole year on the bench..."
