"Good morning, class" greeted Mrs. Mulhouse, entering the room
The entire class stood up, answering: "Good morining, Mrs. Mulhouse"
We knew that we had to be as kind as possible with her, because there was an history test on the following morning and it's always better to have the teacher by your side.
But, apparently, Mrs. Mulhouse was not intentioned to revise the First World War, since he started talking: "Today we are welcoming a new student, from North Park: come inside, David!"
A guy with pale skin, brown hair and black eyes entered the door: he wore a light black coat, a white scarf and black trousers: "Hello everybody, I'm so happy to be here!" he exclaimed
"And we are happy to have you here" replied my history teacher "I know that you were one of the best students of your previous school..."
"Yes, but only because the others were really terrible..." commented David, looking at our books, that were opened on our desks "First World War, huh?"
"Exactly!" confirmed Karen, one of my classmates, that sat in the first desk
"I see you're back on the schedule, we were already at the end of the Second one..." smirked the new students
Mrs. Mulhouse laughed nervously and invited him to take a chair.
I turned back to Cody, that sat behind me, and murmured: "Who the fuck he thinks he is? He's just arrived and already looks at us like we were stupid..."
"Yeah, North Parkers have always that condescending behavior" intervened Thomas, at my left side "And we're not so far from their program, the two World Wars are five years apart from each other, aren't they?"
Cody facepalmed: "Dude, you're gonna need a miracle to pass this test..."
"Just give that guy more time" suggested Jessie "Don't judge him so fast..."
"Ok" I accepted "But I don't like him..."
During that day my expectations seemed to be confirmed: David answered at every single question made by every single teacher, and he often anticipated me.
Let's clear one point: I'm a good student and I wasn't jealous of him, but the tone he used to speak was really annoying: he spoke like a know-it-all, and I hate people who behave in this way.
So, when the last bell of the day rang, I was happy like I had never been before: there was soccer training, but above all I didn't have to share the same oxygen with David...
Since I had obtained the driving license I always went to school by car, so I took that and drove to South Park Elementary, but I didn't find the boys in front of it: there was only a tall, blond and muscled man, that wore sunglasses and asked: "Are you the coach of the soccer team?"
"Yes" I answered "Do you need information?"
"Follow me" he declared, heading to the principal office, where he invited me to take place in front of him.
I admit that I was a little bit nervous: "What do I have to know?"
"I'm the new principal" he answered, with a serious expression "My name is PC, but you can call me PC Principal..."
I shanked his hand: "Nice to meet you. Where did principal Victoria go?"
"She left her place a few days ago" explained the man "And now I'm meeting the whole scholastic team to decide if they can remain or not..."
I swallowed a bit of saliva, but he luckily continued: "I see that the team is having great results with you: first place ex-aequo with North Park, a lot of victories, the players and their parents are happy with you, so I think you can stay where you are..."
My mouth opened in a big smile: "Thank you, PC Principal"
"You can go, now, but remember that I'm watching you..." concluded the new principal
I went out of the office and I found the soccer team behind the door: "Why are you here?" I asked
"We were looking for you, but we didn't found you..." explained Butters
"I see that you've just met the new principal" said Clyde
"Yes" I confirmed "He's just confirmed me as your coach"
"Thank God" commented Kenny, while the rest of the team smiled and followed me on the way to the vesting room
"G, that man is not normal" informed Cartman, when we were far enough from the office
"Why do you say that?" I asked "He looks like a balanced person..."
"I agree with the fat ass" confirmed Stan
"Hey!" exclaimed Cartman
Stan continued: "He's obsessed with Politically Correct, and if something strange happens he freaks out..."
"I'm not afraid of that" I affirmed "I'm the king of Politically Correct"
"What a liar..." chuckled Kyle "When you read black humor jokes you laugh for hours..."
"Shhh" I laughed "Let's go training..."
The following morning, it was testing time: David was obviously exonerated since he had just arrived, while I was perfectly ready.
Mrs Mulhouse knew that Thomas was bad in history, so she always put me and Cody, two of the best of her class, behind and far from him, to deny him every possibility to copy.
While I was doing my test, Cody kicked my leg: "Ouch!" I murmured "Are you stupid?"
"Look..." he said, pointing at Thomas: he seemed desperate, and tried to ask David, who sat next to him, some of the answers, but the new student ignored him or answered that he didn't know that.
"What a freaking douchebag!" I commented "He could help him but doesn't, during the break he'll deal with me..."
"Don't mess it up, please" implored Jessie "I don't want you to get into trouble..."
"Don't worry..." I answered, continuing to write
At the end of the test, the bell declared the beginning of the break and, after I handed in my paper sheet, I went to Thomas: "How did it go?"
"I answered two questions out of ten" explained my friend "It's going to be the usual F..."
"Son of a bitch!" I exclaimed, running out of the class
"Keep calm" reminded Cody
I reached the new guy in the toilets, where I knew he spent his breaks "What's wrong with you?"
"What are you talking about?" asked David
"Why didn't you help my friend?" I demanded
He smirked, viciously: "Did I have to?"
"Yes" I confirmed "I don't know how does it works in your town, but here we help each other..."
"And letting him have a higher mark?" he asked "Dude, I'm the highest in the room, I can't let you overtake me..."
"What!?" I shouted "Are you listening to yourself?"
"Perfectly" he chuckled "And now get out of my way, redneck..."
I couldn't help it: "Piece of shit! You should be ashamed of what you are..."
He smirked again: "Believe me, you've made your bed..."
Then he went out of the toilets: "What an asshole!" I exclaimed, hitting the door with a punch, before going back to the class for the following lesson
I had just sat on my desk, when I saw the principal, Mr. Smith, on the door: "G, come with me"
"Why?" I asked "What did I do?"
"Follow me into my office" insisted the headteacher
My friends looked at me walking out of the room with a scared face, and I sat in front of the principal: "G, I know that you have insulted David, the new student..."
"Principal, believe me, there was a good reason for doing that..." I started
"Does the fact that David is gay represent a good reason?" Mr. Smith interrupted me
That declaration left me speechless: "What!? Gay?"
"David has just told me that you pronounced homophobic phrases against him" explained the headteacher "South Park Elementary, Middle and High have just adopted a politically correct policy, so we can't accept your behavior..."
"But this wasn't the reason why I insulted him..." I tried to explain "He..."
"Stop it, G" the principal stopped me "I'll give a two-hour punishment after school"
"But..."
"I don't want to listen to you anymore" said Mr. Smith "Goodbye and go back to your class"
I was shocked when I left the office and kept my mouth opened for at least ten minutes during the following lesson, while David looked at me, satisfied.
When lunch break started, I called Kyle: "Dude, I'm coming home later today..."
"Why?" asked my host brother
"Two-hour punishment because of the biggest douchebag in the whole history..." I explained
"What did it..." Kyle stopped talking and I heard PC Principal's voice "I know what you did, asshole!"
"No, please let me explain..." I implored
"I'll explain you something now" said the principal "YOU'RE FUCKING FIRED, BYE!"
Then he closed the call and I was so disappointed that I let my phone falling on the floor: what had I done wrong in my life?
"G, your dinner is ready" advised Sheila, opening my bedroom's door
"Thank you, Sheila, but I'm not hungry..." I murmured
"You can't lie on your bed and look at the wall for the rest of the year" said Kyle's mum "If you eat something it will be better for you..."
"Mum, I'll talk with him" decided Kyle "Give us some time..."
"Ok, sweetie" accepted Shelia, closing the door
Kyle sat on my bed: "Hey, how are you?"
"I was punished, I have lost my job and everybody thinks I'm homophobic" I commented "I'm in the sunshine..."
"I know that you didn't do anything" affirmed Kyle "You can't get the Isaiah syndrome in just one day, it's a longer process..."
"The what?" I muttered
"It took the name from an actor accused of homophobic insults" explained my host brother "But I know you don't have it..."
"And how do you think we can solve this situation?" I asked
Kyle's computer made a noise: "I think our solution is here..." said the kid, opening it and showing me my players, that were all connected in a video-call
I finally smiled: "Hi, guys!"
"Hello, coach" answered Scott, the last arrived
"Don't call me in this way, I'm not your coach anymore..." I commented
"You'll be with us again in just a few days" affirmed Stan
"Yes" confirmed Craig "I looked for that David in all social media, and I saw that in none of them there are rainbows or any other LGBT symbols"
"And?" I asked
"Nowadays it's aaah strange that a gay doesn't show his sexuality on his aaah socials" explained Tweek "Craig and me have a rainbow in our accounts, and also all our homosexual friends have that, aaah"
"So are you..." I interrupted myself "And why are you telling me that after what happened?"
"Because they know you're not a freaking homophobic and can accept that without any problem!" exclaimed Cartman "Is it so difficult?"
"And what do you want to do?" I asked
"Spy him" declared Kenny
"No" I refused "It's not correct and you can't know where he normally goes..."
"And here comes our ace in the hole" declared Token, mysteriously, while another member joined the call
"Jessie!" I exclaimed "Why do you work with my kids?"
"They asked me to and I accepted" smiled my girlfriend "All I want is to help you, so I gave them name, surname and physical description of David, so they could find information about him"
"Summarizing what we want to do" explained Kyle "We're gonna tail him for the next days, only in public places: Jessie will help us by signaling his positions when you finish school, and if we discover something before the end of the week we'll tell everything to you"
"We can continue our normal school life" explained Jessie "They're gonna spy him in different groups, so they won't be suspicious: is it ok for you?"
I thought about it for some seconds: I knew that spying someone is not fair, but my life, work and reputation were really important for me, and we didn't have to kill no one, so I sighed: "Ok, but pay attention"
Then I smiled and looked at the webcam: "Thanks, guys..."
Kyle closed the call: "So, can we go downstairs and have dinner now?"
"Yes" I confirmed, standing up and following him
Who wouldn't want such a team?
The following days were full of anxiety: while I walked in the corridors of the school, I felt on me disgusted glances that I didn't deserve, and that made me suffer a lot.
I prayed every single day that my players discovered something interesting, and my hopes were really low on that Friday afternoon, while I was going back home.
When I opened the door, Kyle exclaimed: "Firstly, you're late! Secondly, we finally have a piece of evidence!"
"What?" I asked, surprised
"Look at that" said Stan, who was there with him, showing me a photograph of David kissing a girl "We saw him with that girl at 'Café l'Amour' on every single since Wednesday day, but we weren't sure that she was her girlfriend..."
"And today Butters has sent us this picture, that confirms our thesis" explained Kyle, with a satisfied smile "David is a straight liar"
I looked at that little square for some seconds, silently: "So? Are you happy?" asked Stan "Now you can tell the world that you were right"
"I won't do that" I affirmed
"What!?" replied Kyle "Have we did all of this for nothing?"
"No, I've just had a better idea" I declared, mysteriously "Tomorrow at 10 a.m., the whole South Park Elementary must be in front of the school, Jessie is warning the High School..."
"What do you have in mind?" wondered Stan
"You'll understand everything in some hours..." I concluded, with a little smile
On Saturday morning, everyone seemed to have respected my anonymous invitation and luckily among the crowd there were also the three people that I wanted: David and the two principals.
At the exact 10 a.m., I took a megaphone, made me visible and said: "Silence, please"
A lot of the people that were in front of the school looked at me badly: "I know what you're thinking" I declared "What does this monster wants from us? I want to speak about gay people"
"Shut up, moron!" shouted someone
"I think we must stop giving a special treatment to LGBT people" I explained, continuing faster in order to avoid other insults "And not because I don't respect them: they'll feel just more different from the others..."
Everybody stopped murmuring and I could continue: "Let's think about it! The biggest signal of integration we can give, is the equal treatment: believe me, when a heterosexual guy is insulted, he suffers just like a homosexual one"
I stopped for a second, then started to pronounce the last lines of the speech: "I didn't insult my classmate because of his sexuality, and I can repeat what I told him in front of all of you: 'Piece of shit! You should be ashamed of what you are...'
The whole crowd gasped, and I concluded: "I didn't say that because he likes other guys, but because he refused to help one of my best friends, and in an evil way. If gays feel like they can do and say whatever they want in our schools, there will be a lot of people that will be overpunished for the wrong reason. You can accuse me of insulting him, and you'll be right because I did a bad thing, but not of being an homophobic. Long live love, whoever is its receiver. Thank you!"
There was a second of silence and I thought I had put the nail in my coffin, but the the crowd started clapping their hands, and continued for at least one minute.
I was stunned: I kissed Jessie, who had reached me, and bowed low.
When I stood up again I felt a hand on my shoulders: it was PC Principal: "I really appreciated your speech" he admitted "I think I made a mistake: if you still wanna work as our soccer coach, I would be happy to welcome you back..."
"Thank you, PC Principal" I smiled, then I hugged Jessie and looked at my team with my thumbs up: I was still on track.
I couldn't see David in the crowd anymore, and I would have never seen him again: he suddenly went back to North Park, because you can't win against the power of the right words...
