A/N: I still would like suggestion on just what Rubedo should be
Aura smiled happily at Cain's reply happy that her lord was so happy but also slightly disappointed internally she had intended to ask if she could claim the beast soon but it appears that Lord Cain had beaten her to it and after a bit more prep and talk it was settled.
Aura would guide the beast to Cain and Cain would fight it gauge its strength and intelligence and then decide if it was worth the effort to capture the beast.
Cain for his part was happy he was going to do something interesting and he got to discuss plans between himself and his companions' creations it was in some ways nostalgic.
But as the time for planning came to an end Cain sent Aura off and reverted his appearance to that of his disguise and put his helmet back on and then all there was to do was wait.
Fortunately they didn't need to wait long, 10 minutes at most, before a series of loud crashing sounds worked their way to the duo Cain readied himself drawing his swords and preparing as Rubedo did the same at his side putting on her claws.
Cain readied himself moments before a large blur launched itself into the small clearing that Cain and Rubedo had stopped in sending a single strike at Cain with its tail.
Cain easily parried the strike to his side opposite Rubedo as the beast landed and with a crash on the opposite end of the clearing.
As the beast's tail retracted it stood spoke "Who dares to disturb this one's slumber, who dares to challenge this one?" its body's tattoo like markings glowed an ominous teal all across its shadowed body.
Cain moved his blades out of his line of sight as he replied "I am Able and this is my companion Ruby." The shadowed beast nodded slightly.
"This one acknowledges your challenge and power that strike has killed many before you…now let us duel to the death proving which of us is worth their continued existence." said the beast as it stepped forward out of the shadows of the trees.
Cain froze and his eyebrows shot up underneath his helmet at the sight before his entire body seemed to lose most of its tenseness forgetting his surrounding before he finally spoke "…Are you by any chance the wise king of the forest?"
The wise king of the forest gave a chittering laugh and replied "Yes this one has gone by that name for many cycles, are you now regretting your misfortune, that is too bad this one won't let you escape."
Cain let the words sweep past him for a moment as the giant beast…no not a beast it was simply a giant house pet honestly Cain couldn't fit the image of the wise king with this giant fluffy hamster, it actually reminded him of a pet one of his companions had shown him a Djungarian hamster if he remembered correctly.
Having remembered the name of the pet Cain asked a question "Are you by any chance a…Giant Djungarian hamster?"
The wise king's eyes glinted with interest and it spoke with a new excitement to its tone "Have you may haps heard of this one's species, might you be able to lead this one to more of its kind this one will spare you if you can do so." Its whiskers twitching excitedly throughout it dialog.
Cain hesitated for a moment before he replied "I don't know about that but I have seen a creature similar to you."
A flash of sadness passed over the giant hamster's fluffy face before it recovered and spoke again "Well even then this one wishes to know, would it be possible to find and multiply with that one…if this one is to succeed and be a proper being it must propagate and expand its genes however this one has been alone since birth and hasn't had the chance to do so."
Cain felt an almost genuine pity well up for the creature but at the same time hearing a giant hamster talk about being a 'successful being' when it was nothing more than a house pet in his original world was…funny in a sense.
Then again just about every animal that wasn't a house pet was dead in his world…so maybe it was successful in that way.
However when Cain let his thoughts straighten out again and he saw the expectant look on the giant hamster's face he replied "N-no I don't think it would be possible you are far larger than the other one I saw…that one could have easily fit in my palm."
Again sadness flashed across its face and its shoulders slumped in defeat for a few seconds before it straightened up and regained its drive and took a ready stance "This one will fight you but is grateful thus I will make it quick."
Cain smiled at the giant hamster it really was just too cute to be threatening to him so he came to a simple decision one strike from it and then he would subjugate the wise king…actually this might be a good time to try something.
Upon seeing Cain take a ready stance the wise king of the forest lowered itself to all fours and sent another tail strike, this is what Cain was hoping for, he immediately dropped one sword and snatched the tail out of the air and he held it firmly not allowing it to return to its regular place.
The wise king squeaked in shock and slight fear Cain focused on and activated a two mid-level passive skills Dragon's domination and Death' subjugation both were skills that applied a fear debuff without activation and as such the moment the wise king felt the presence Cain put off it shrieked and flopped onto its back exposing its soft white furred belly to Cain…a position made awkward by the fact that Cain still had a hold on its tail.
Cain let the tail go and then leisurely made his way to the giant hamster as it begged for mercy and pledged loyalty seemingly grasping at any option that would lead to its survival.
Cain almost flinched as Rubedo spoke from his side "Ah it's begging so adorably after just little bit of your power was let out what are you going to do now Able?"
Cain took a few seconds to calm down and then he began to speak "I think I will take it as a pet." instantly the giant hamster began saying its thanks and pledging to serve him faithfully.
Cain frowned for a moment this was getting irritating "Stop with the begging I have already claimed you so get up and follow me."
After a moment to process the order the giant hamster rolled over and began trying its best to wipe its eyes clear of tears with its stubby arms.
"Ok this one will follow Master!" said the wise king excitedly after it finished clearing its eyes of tears seemingly moving past the fact that it was metaphorically on its knees moments ago.
Cain looked at Rubedo who seemed somewhat disappointed at his actions…was she hoping that he would draw out the adorable creature's fear?
Cain took a deep calming breath and began to backtrack eventually finding the rope and following it back to the main clearing where all three promptly found themselves being stared at by the original group.
The stares were shocked and then disbelieving as the wise king of the forest stepped into view its large furry body probably seemed intimidating but after a look at its adorable face and eyes surely they would calm down.
Even after an actual minute the shocked looks persisted…Cain spoke first breaking the moment as his group finally came to a stop a few feet from the humans "I have tamed the wise king of the forest."
Nfirea was pale as paper when he spoke in an almost broken shaky tone "H-how…wh-what is…" but the question tapered off and died before he could properly ask his question.
Peter was the first to actually give a proper response "What are you going to do with them now?"
This time the wise king of the forest spoke up itself "This one has pledged its loyalty to my master this one will follow until its end."
Now Nfirea spoke with more clarity "What about your territory it's the only reason this area is so safe?" the giant hamster actually seemed to think over that for a moment.
"Hmm this one's territory is already unstable all the surrounding areas are unstable as well this one wouldn't be able to defend its territory even if it wished to." was its surprisingly well thought-out reply.
Cain couldn't help himself he reached out and gently pet the giant hamster on its head however upon doing so Cain immediately noticed the sudden silence from the humans of his group.
After turning back to face them he was again met with shocked stares yet again 'What are you doing?!' seemed consensus between all of them.
Cain after an awkward moment responded to the unasked question "…Their fur is soft and they are cute." but again he was met even more bewildered stares.
Peter spoke up first "W-well I suppose to Able a creature of this strength could be considered cute but to we can only feel respect for such a noble creature…what about you Ruby?"
Cain almost did a double take as Peter spoke while Rubedo replied "I share the same opinion as Able it's just so…cute…you really should have let it beg some more." muttering the last bit just quite enough to not be heard by the humans but both Cain and the wise king straightened slightly.
Cain in that moment finally stopped his petting frozen in discomfort before he finally withdrew his hand and spoke "W-well with that settled may we continue the mission?"
That seemed to lessen Nfirea's mouth a little "Ah yes we were almost finished when Lukrut heard your approach." Cain nodded in understanding.
"Would you like us to continue with the perimeter?" asked Cain curiously looking between the boy and the edge of the clearing with a somewhat searching gaze.
"Ah I don't really think that that is necessary Able j-just please stand guard for a few minutes longer." replied Nfirea a new anxious tone added to his voice…not that it wasn't nervous sounding before.
Cain however accepted quickly and began to move back closer to the edge of the forest stopping midway between the forest edge and the humans before stopping and standing sentry occasionally looking around to the surrounding edges looking for movement.
But time seemed to move quickly and then they were all heading back to the cart and with the haul safely packed in they all began to head back to the city and since they had started heading back they wouldn't have to deal with camping again though it would be closer to night than day by the time they actually got to relax.
However, whatever expectations the trip up might have set the trip back failed to up hold any there wasn't anything of note on the way back no attacks no unsettling sounds picked up by Lukrut…nothing except for fact that Ninya accidently stuck their staff in horse dung and almost stepped in it and in trying to avoid it mid step they had almost face planted into the dirt road when their precarious footing slipped.
Cain almost broke character for a moment just barely managing to hold in a laugh when that had happened Rubedo and the rest of adventures held no such qualms and laughed openly much to Ninya's shame and embarrassment.
But outside of that and keeping the wise king away from the horses, as they made horses nervous, nothing happened until they reach the city where all progress was shut down as the guards questioned them over what they were bringing into the city…especially the giant hamster like monster.
However after a bit of talk and even more assurances from both Cain's group and the wise king itself that they weren't going to cause problems they were released into the city.
Before they had properly left the gates Peter had suggested that Cain should ride the wise king through town to show that he had defeated and tamed it but Cain had vetoed the idea but when the rest of the group including Rubedo insisted on showing dominance over the wise king showing that it was tamed, if for different reasons.
Rubedo wished for Cain to cruelly drag the wise king through the city while the humans simply wanted the people to feel awed rather than shocked and fearful.
Cain felt that the latter was reasonable and began to ponder just how he could achieve that after a few second he spoke playfully "Mabey I could carry them on my shoulders?"
The reaction he got in response almost made him laugh as the swords of darkness blanched and Nfirea seemed to lose color immediately before he hesitantly spoke up "C-can you do that?"
Cain actually paused for a moment and looked to his fluffy new pet his own curiosity spiked.
Cain promptly walked to the creature's side and upon seeing his approach the giant hamster spoke nervously "My lord what are you doing?"
Cain didn't respond and for a moment an awkward silence almost set in before Cain suddenly reached under its belly and without any sign of strain lifted it straight into the air much to the now squirming monster's discomfort.
"It appears that I can do so…but I think this would become boring rather fast so I think I would rather not." said Cain after a moment before he slowly let the monster back down.
However, with that out of the way that left Cain with a blank as to what he could do to satisfy everyone…without breaking his ego apart by riding his new adorable pet through town.
But after a bit more pondering and a bit more assurance from his companions Cain gave in and mounted his giant hamster feeling like a man child trying to gather attention as he straddled its back.
As they began moving into town and approached a split in the road one that led to the guide and one that led to Nfirea's story Ninya suggested that they should split up so that Cain could register the wise king as a tamed monster.
Cain was very open to the idea however he had one amendment to make "Ruby I want you to go with them to Nfirea's shop."
The look of confusion and slight betrayal flashed across her face before she spoke up "Able why, why can't I go with you?" the look however was quickly lost as she started to beg.
Cain however was strong on this and thus they parted ways Cain would head to the guild with the giant hamster and Rubedo would go to the herbalist shop with the humans.
Cain had two reasons for sending Rubedo away 1. by sending her with them she might learn of something that the group might have been unwilling to say in his rather imposing presence and 2. he needed a break from her she was insentient on touching, clinging to, or subtly/not so subtly flirting with him…it defiantly wasn't just because of the last one.
As Cain rode the wise king through the streets he released a quite sigh and his shoulders slumped slightly he hadn't expected the Rubedo to be so aggressive she was as flirty as Albedo and didn't hold back in touching him like Shalltear.
However the monster under him seemed to notice his stress as it spoke "My lord, are you ok?"
Cain responded by lightly scratching behind its ears and replying "I am fine simply thinking about things…"
The monster nodded slightly and responded in an understanding tone "Hmm Hmm it would seem that even one as strong as my lord can't rest whenever he wishes."
Cain couldn't help but feel a bit of worried that he was receiving sympathy from a giant hamster and was grateful for it…he really was in a different world and yet here he was receiving sympathy from a monster as if it were a coworker listening to him complain about receiving extra hours without compensation.
After that the conversation died off and the rest of the ride was finished in silence aside from the passersby who all gasped and spoke in hushed tones as the wise king proudly walked down the street following Cain's directions.
However Cain's silence was put on hold as they approached the guild as adventures and office workers alike began rushing out to get a look at the massive tamed monster the new copper plate had brought in.
…However on the other side of the coin Rubedo was not having a fun time she was honestly a little hurt it was cruel to put her next to toys and tell her not to break them.
What's more not only did her dear Lord Cain bring her next to her favorite brand of toys he brought her to a city of them and before her hopes could get too high he brought them crashing down.
They would not be destroying these toys together, they wouldn't even be playing with them in a way she truly enjoyed playing house was fun and all but she wished to paint the town with the internals of its residents.
She held back her desire to play with them, maim them, kill them distracting herself with her Lord but now he had gone off alone with his new pet leaving her alone with these toys…it was almost like he was teasing her.
However, their 'adventure' was coming to an end and she was separate from Lord Cain and she couldn't distract herself anymore she could only imagen how they would sing if she was allowed even one of the human's from swords of darkness.
Mabey Lord Cain would let her have the girl playing dress up she could tell by the sound of cloth rubbing against bandages that she was wrapping her chest, it was always fun to reinforce the bandages and tighten them until their wears popped like an overfilled tick.
Suddenly Rubedo snapped from her day dreams as she smelled blood, slightly aged and rotted blood as well as negative energy from an undead.
Rubedo did her best to hold back a smile as Nfirea's cart came to a stop in front of the building that smelled of the fresh blood and began unloading his baggage.
Rubedo helped, bringing in a bag of the herbs that had been picked earlier however once everyone was inside she felt a barrier enclose itself over the building and held a baited breath as a young woman rounded the corner of the store and spoke "Ahh you have finally returned it was rude of you to make big sis wait this long."
Nfirea stalled in his steps and hurriedly replied "Who are you?!" putting the swords of darkness on edge while Rubedo felt her own excitement build.
"What you don't know her?" asked Peter before he dropped box and went for his sword while everyone prepared themselves.
