Dreams were like visions of the future, something that Sarah Kerrigan could finally engage in again, but she envisioned Korhal, the invasion of it when the Zerg attacked the Dominion, ripping through all of them and delivering true destruction across the world, the Queen of Blades standing to see it all, but her body, her skin was of a violet color and hummed with powers stronger than before before she gasped awake, resting in the base where the Raiders had take to ground in the months of building back up and healing up for Mengsk had not ceased his search for the end of the former Queen of Blades...
The location of the Umojan research station was only known to a few close allies as Jim Raynor walked toward the research lab and spoke, to one of the four Marines guarding it. "Open the door, son."
"Valerian's orders, sir. No visit-"
"Open the door." The Marine yielded and Raynor entered, stepping on a platform that headed downward as schematics and data of Kerrigan lingered to his sides before he reached the bottom and Prince Valerian Mengsk spoke to his arrival.
"Good Morning, Commander."
"Junior." Raynor's mission had changed swiftly in reaction to Kerrigan's disinfestation, he didn't want to take down Mengsk anymore, he wanted to take her far away from the Dominion's reach, their hunger for power as an Adjutant spoke.
"Gentlemen, the test protocol will begin in two minutes." The doors to the small cell opened up as Kerrigan sat there, being outfitted with a new Ghost Suit before Jim spoke again.
"Make the most of this test. It's your last one... Now give us a minute." Valerian breathed as he nodded.
"Very well." The scientists and Prince headed off as Kerrigan started to construct a detonator with her powers as Jim spoke.
"We're getting out of here tonight, darlin'."
"Good. Then we can go after Mengsk."
"Forget Mengsk. Forget all of it! This is about you and me." The detonator was finished, but Kerrigan then crushed it as she stood up with it falling down as she spoke.
"Until Mengsk is dead, there can't be a 'you and me'." She answered with turning away as Jim exclaimed back with fists touching the force field of the cell.
"I moved heaven and earth to bring you back, Sarah!" He shouted to get her to listen and forget about vengeance. "I can't watch you throw that away just for revenge!"
"Initiating test phase two." The doors started to closed as Jim stepped back and shouted.
"I never gave up on you, Sarah! Don't you give up on us!" The doors closed and Kerrigan lingered before she turned back around with a frown and rested her hand on the field and closed her eyes before the Adjutant continued.
"Test phase two, commencing." They reopened to glowing yellow, if Valerian wants a test, he was going to GET a test out of this...!
The cell went into place as Kerrigan spoke to Valerian who was in a overlook observation site. "What are you hoping to get out of these tests, Valerian? I told you I don't remember anything about being the Queen of Blades."
"We have to find out how much of the Zerg mutagen is left in your system. I appreciate your cooperation, Kerrigan." She raised a brow as she pointed out.
"Do you usually keep cooperative people in a containment cell?"
"When we know it's safe, I'll unlock your door myself. Now, can you reach out with your mind? Do you sense it?" She breathed and sensed... the basic Zerg coming out, the building blocks of all the Zerg known and she spoke with question.
"A Drone? Are you really asking me to take control of a Zerg mind? Do you know what could happen?"
"All the test subjects are in a secure environment." Secure environment... right as Valerian continued. "Are you able to control it?" Kerrigan breathed and connected, the Drone submitting to her will as she spoke.
"Yeah. I have it."
"Okay. The next step: See if you can order the Drone to mutate into a Hatchery." Kerrigan commanded and the Drone listened as it started to mutate into the first structure of any Zerg Hive, it was... curious to her that the Zerg were actually listening to her through a mind link, the artifact should have purified her of all Zerg, so why did she still have this power over the Zerg, even her psionic powers were stronger than before... strange as the Adjutant filed in what the purpose of the Hatchery was. The Hatchery was soon completed and towered like a Command Center before Valerian spoke again.
"Okay, Kerrigan, I'm releasing more Drones into the test chamber." Drones were indeed released as Valerian asked her to do it. "See if you can order them to gather those resources." Kerrigan did so again as she felt the Zerg actively obey her, it was interesting to think about right now as they started to harvest the mineral patches given to them and drop them off inside the Hatchery before returning as Valerian spoke. "You're doing well, Kerrigan. Can you morph more Drones?" Kerrigan shook her head as she felt a band on the level of control she had on the Zerg.
"I need an Overlord to morph anything else."
"Do it then. One Overlord shouldn't hurt." The mammoth creatures were not hostile, but they were invaluable as Overlords extend the level of control over the Zerg as it is often that one sees these titans flying through the skies of any Hive as the creature emerged from an egg, large to house a simple drone, but it grew until the mammoth emerged and started to wander around the enormous room in flight as Valerian breathed. "Excellent. I planned to stop here, but let's take this a little further. Try mutating a Drone into a Spawning Pool." Kerrigan smirked a bit, that is asking for actual trouble as she commanded one of the Drones to start mutating a Spawning Pool on the Creep as any other Zerg building needs creep to develop, something that was not always fully explained to others, but the Creep feeds the growths and keep them alive, without it, they lost stability and die as Kerrigan pointed out.
"You know this is going to end badly, right?"
"We have a controlled environment." Kerrigan snorted as she spoke.
"Controlled, huh? We'll see about that very soon." She turned back as the Spawning Pool grew in size and finished being made as Kerrigan mused. "The Spawning Pool is finished. You should go down to the test chamber and inspect it."
"Ah, I can see just fine from up here, thanks. I think that's all we need today, Kerrigan. Great work." Kerrigan then took it further.
"If you think that was great work, wait 'til you see this. I'll make some Zerglings..." The Larva at the Hatchery accepted the task as Valerian stopped to question.
"Kerrigan, what are you doing?"
"Putting your controlled environment to the test." The eggs grew before the first combat units of the Zerg emerged in twos, a force of Zerglings at Kerrigan's command as Valerian exclaimed.
"Stop! I didn't ask you to create Zerglings!"
"Funny thing about Zerg, Valerian. They never do what you expect." Valerian overreacted as he exclaimed.
"Shut down the experiment. Get sentry bots in there to sanitize those holding cells! Lockdown on the sublevel and power up the Eradicator! Nothing gets out!" Kerrigan huffed as she spoke.
"Maybe if I destroy your pretty Eradicator, you'll learn you can't control the Zerg." The UED paid for that mistake a thousand times over, now Valerian would lose his little mechs as the Zerglings charged to destroy the Sentry Bots in their way as Kerrigan felt more minds in the sublevel. "I sense more Zerglings in holding pens! Valerian, you were very careless! Perhaps I'll free them too..." The Zerglings made to open the holding pens as the Adjutant spoke.
"Containment breach. Zerg specimens free."
"Evacuate the scientists! Get all personnel out of there!" They broke open the first cell and took command of more Zerglings as they rushed the first Factory making the Sentry Bots to clean out the Zerg. "Kerrigan! This is not a game!"
"It never is with the Zerg." But Kerrigan held back from attacking the scientists, she wanted to teach Valerian a lesson in humility, not of killing.
"Zerg! Run!"
"Dammit, get all personnel off that level!" The security detail kept the Zerg occupied before the Adjutant spoke.
"No more personnel remain on sublevel."
"It's all... out of control." The Zerglings pressed on as the Adjutant made a notion of several turrets guarding the way.
"Containment door closed. Automated gas defense activated."
"That containment door won't open until I destroy those turrets!" The Zergling went to town on them and the doors opened as Kerrigan mused. "The door's open. Now to destroy the Eradicator." The holding pens added to her forces before she broke open the final cell as Valerian breathed in regret.
"You've made your point, Kerrigan!"
"Not yet I haven't. I'm still in your containment cell." And it was not likely that he was going to do it yet as the Zerglings made to destroy the final target, the Eradicator.
"Eradicator activated." It was an oversized Sentry Bot, but it was stronger, even having back up from the manufacturing Factory that made more Bots to support, but the Zerg were numerous as it soon fell and the sublevel was consumed in a wave of Zerg. "Eradicator destroyed. Situation critical."
"The Zerg have overrun the sublevel. You're lucky no one was killed, Kerrigan."
"Luck had nothing to do with it. And maybe now you understand how dangerous the Zerg are. I'll send them back to their pens." Valerian breathed in relief as he spoke.
"I appreciate that. I'm opening your cell right now, if you'd like to join me. And perhaps next time you can make your point without destroying half the facility?" Kerrigan huffed as the Zerg went to their pens and she was freed, Valerian true to his word of opening the cell himself before she spoke.
"Sorry about that, it was stressful to be locked up like that... I just wanted to be free."
"I can believe that, I'm sorry for keeping you here for so long, but it is strange, the Zerg mutagen should have been purged from your systems, how is it that you retain your command over the Zerg to begin with?" Kerrgian blinked before she flexed her hands in thought.
"I... don't know, I was thinking the same thing, but that is for later, I'm going to walk around." Valerian nodded as Kerrigan headed about the lab...
She paused at a railing before she heard the steps of someone close and turned, finding two as Jim spoke. "You made quite a mess down there, Sarah." The suited being nodded as Kerrigan joked.
"Starting to regret bringing me back?" Jim chuckled as he spoke.
"Never." She turned to the figure and they looked back with blue lens as Jim spoke. "Sarah, this is Alexander Wrench, former Dominion Magistrate of Mar Sara and resident Spectre of the Raiders." The visor opened and Kerrigan could tell a experienced vision with tempered skills, but also a youthful outlook as he extended out a hand to her.
"Good to meet the Commander's love interest after so long, interesting choice of hair." Kerrigan snorted at the comment as she spoke.
"So no killing me for being the Queen of Blades?"
"Jim and I know that it wasn't you, and we do have some... extra backstory to that idea and belief, but you are alive, you are well, so I should head out." He turned to Jim as he spoke. "I need to head out now, Raynor, the Dominion is cracking down and I need to see to Warfield, he has been obeying the Emperor for now, but we need to get him and his men out of that situation soon." Raynor nodded as the visor fell again before Kerrigan spoke with the figure walking away.
"Maybe you should have let someone kill me. I slaughtered millions as the Queen of Blades..." Jim shook his head as he spoke.
"That wasn't you, Sarah. Leave the past behind, and let's focus on gettin' out of here. I'll suit up and meet you in an hour."
"Okay. That sounds... good." Jim headed out to do that as Kerrigan lingered a bit before moving around again, maybe it was wise to just... give up this grudge and forget Mengsk, his Dominion was already weakened, she shouldn't take it upon herself to put him down, he is suffering worse already...
But time was not on their side as very soon, the red shield of the Dominion arrived over the planet of Umoja in force, making another enemy with a powerful Terran faction...
