Entrance exams had come and gone, and with all of the group studying led by Izumi, the group excelled. They got the results back from U.A. the week before middle school ended and were able to breathe a sigh of relief. The group did have one major issue however, and it was that they forgot to take into account that the business course is split up into three different individual classes. Izumi had been placed in class I while Logan and Rei had both been put into class K. Logan didn't need to have her parents pull any strings when it came to getting into the school, but she did end up managing to convince them to pull some strings so they could all end up in the same class.

Today was the day. The first day of school at U.A. high. Cars were piled up outside of the school gate, and groups of kids were walking along the sidewalk from the nearby train station. The opening ceremony took place yesterday, so the girls were already somewhat familiar with the campus. The group made it through the gate and security checkpoint without any issues. They made their way to classroom 1-K, arriving before any other students had gotten there. The man they assumed to be their homeroom teacher was already there, kicked back in his chair with his feet resting on the desk and his cowboy hat pulled down over his eyes. The three girls exchanged confused glances as they stood in the doorway. Assuming they had complete control over their seating, they took three desks in the back corner of the room closest to the door.

The girls leaned in to whisper to each other as other students filed into the room. "So was the cowboy thing not just a joke?" Izumi muttered, throwing a glance towards their homeroom teacher, still sound asleep at his desk.

Rei shook her head. "I don't think so."

"Well that's weird. I would say it reminds me of home, but it really doesn't because I'm from New York," Logan said with a small shrug. "Do you think this guy just watched way too many old west movies as a kid?"

"I don't fucking know. I would assume that's what happened, but it's still a bit odd to have a drawl while speaking Japanese," Izumi replied, crossing her arms and leaning back in her chair.

The girls took out their supplies and prepared for class. Once all of the students had filed in and taken their seats, Snipe took his feet off the desk and leaned forward. "Now y'all have quite an important decision to make. We need to establish some sort of authority in these parts." The class looked nervously between themselves.

"Is he going to whip out a paddle and spank us or something? I thought that was just a porn thing," Logan said slowly to the other girls.

Snipe snapped his head around to look at the girls. He was quiet for a split second, like the comment shocked him, but he shook his head to recover. "Detention," he said, pointing at Logan.

"Fuck," Izumi muttered, shooting Logan a pitying look.

"Now, we don't use that sort of language in this class, lassie. Detention for you too." Snipe barely even looked Izumi's way before he turned back to face the rest of the class. "Now, as I was saying before, today we need to establish some sort of authority around here. We need to elect some class representatives."

"Oh that's what he meant," the class murmured, letting out a collective sigh of relief.

"Now, who here thinks they have the chops to lead this here gang?"

Six students raised their hand, Logan among them.

"Alright, well, we are going to have ourselves a good old fashioned run-off. We are going to elect ourselves a sheriff and a deputy to uphold the law in this class. If you want to run for sheriff, group up near the right side of the board. If you want to run for deputy then group up on the left side. Be sure to write your names on the board."

Logan and three male students wrote their name and grouped up on the right side of the board. The two girls that had raised their hands made their way to the left side of the board. Both groups wrote their names in lists on their sides.

"Alright, well, running for deputy, we have: Hirai and Ueno. For sheriff, we have: Ichikawa, Kawata, Okane, and Logan. Huh." Snipe tilted head. "Logan is a real interesting last name."

"Yeah, that's actually my first name," Logan said, shrugging. "I was born in America so that's what I am used to being called and what I usually respond to. It still takes me a while to register being called by my last name even though I've been in Japan for years now."

"Alright, well, that's fine I suppose. Now, all of you can introduce yourselves to the class and give these people some reasons to vote for you. You all have five minutes to prepare your speeches."

The candidates all began thinking about what they would say for their introduction. Rather than spending the time working on her speech, Logan decided to go stand by desk, learning the names of the rest of the students. She gave them all a quick individual "Hello," before she headed back to the front of the class and waited for the last minute of preparation time to be over.

"Okay, your time is up. Let's get this election going. We will start with the deputy candidates and then move to the sheriff candidates. Just go in the order that you have your names in on the board." Snipe heads to the back of the classroom and leans against the back wall, pulling his hat down over his eyes and bending his knee to rest his foot against the wall.

Each candidate delivered their speech. Some focused on their previous achievements in school. Others focused on their personal characteristics that would make them a successful leader. Finally, it was Logan's turn. She headed to the center of the board and cleared her throat before taking a short pause. The class leaned forward paying more attention wondering why she hadn't begun her speech immediately as the others did.

"Listen, you could do worse." Logan said with a shrug before heading back to the right side of the board. A few classmates chuckled at her comment, while the rest of the students sat there with looks of shock on their faces. Even Snipe raised his head.

"Okay, well, I suppose it is time to cast your votes," Snipe said as he handed out small pieces of paper for everyone to cast their vote on. He gave the students ample time to cast their votes before collecting them in his hat. "Now, all of you head back to your seats." He motioned to the candidates still loitering around the front of the class. "Let's start reading these votes shall we?" He grabbed each piece of paper and slowly read out the names, drawing out the suspense. Once he finished he tallied up all of the votes. "Alright, with an 8 to 6 vote Hiari has won the position of deputy. It looks like Logan got 10 out of the 14 votes, so she is going to be your class sheriff." He paused as the class gave the winners a round of applause. "Let's hope you chose the proper leaders. Anyways, moving on from that! Let's take a gander at your schedule. I am going to write out your schedule before I take my leave. Be sure to write it down somewhere. You met your teachers at the opening ceremony yesterday, but let's go over the order of your classes," he said as he wrote out their schedule on the board.

The teachers cycled through the classroom as the day went by, all of them introducing themselves and giving the students an overview of the course. Classmates used the short windows between classes to introduce themselves and get to know each other. Izumi and Rei kept to themselves, but Logan took the time to socialize with some of her classmates. Cementos closed his textbook and dismissed the class for lunch.

"So how do you think detention is going to work? Do we just head back to our classroom? Do we go to the teachers lounge? What happens if we just don't show up and say we were lost?" Logan asked Rei and Izumi as they waited in the cafeteria line.

"I'm not sure where we are supposed to go… Maybe we should eat fast and just go to the teachers lounge to ask?" Izumi suggested.

"Yeah, I am definitely not letting you both ditch detention on the first day of school," Rei interjected, shaking her head disapprovingly. "So eat quickly and let's head to the teachers' office."

"Alright, fine. I hope this food is better than the food from my last school," Logan said, grabbing a bowl of udon.

Izumi snorted out a laugh. "Well, this is a private school, so I am sure it will be. Do you see how much fucking money this place must have?"

The girls found an empty table and began quickly eating their food. They finished within ten minutes and put up their trays, then began their expedition to the teachers offices. They headed down a floor and traveled across the main building, finally approaching the door to the teachers offices.

"So do we just walk in? Should we knock?" Izumi asked, staring at the door.

Rei shrugged. "I guess we should knock?"

Logan walked up to the door and knocked. Midnight answered, opening the door and standing in the doorway. "Hello girls, is something wrong? Who do you need to see?"

"Hello! We are here to talk to Snipe. Could you please show us to his desk?" Rei asked softly. Midnight nodded and began walking through the office over to Snipe's desk. All of the teachers in the office were focused on the large television in the corner, only looking away from it to glance at the girls passing by. The television was turned to a local news channel, which was currently airing a video of a young woman discussing an encounter with three vigilantes who saved her from an attempted assault.

"Hey, doesn't that girl look a bit familiar?" Logan said, which Rei immediately responded to by smacking her across the back. All of the teachers looked back at them, some clearly getting ready to ask them a few questions.

"Yeah," Izumi said quickly. "I think she might live down the street from us."

"Oh, does she? What is she on the news for?" Logan asked as the teachers turned back to the television.

The reporter answered her question. "The incident was confirmed by local police, who claim that the man apprehended by the vigilantes was hospitalized due to the attack. Following the story's appearance on social media, an anonymous source has come forward with inside information from the local police department. Apparently, this vigilante group has been active for at least two years, during which they have been directly responsible for the apprehension of multiple criminals that had previously evaded law enforcement. According to the source, their activity has increased dramatically within the last six months, during which they have taken on larger and much more dangerous targets. Something that sets this vigilante group apart from others is their forfeit of carefully compiled evidence, collected leading up to their attacks. The source also exposed a potential scandal within the police department; stating that despite the law prohibiting professional heroes from intervening in situations not involving quirk usage, the department has brought in several pro heroes to aid in their apprehension of these vigilantes. Apparently, none of their previous attacks have shown any sign of quirk usage from the group. Reportedly, the group refers to themselves as "The Sideline Squad," consisting of three members: Sync, Strats, and Snipes."

Snipe slammed his fist against his desk, making everyone jump in their seats. "The nerve of those bandits, taking my name like that," he grumbled. Izumi and Logan couldn't help but give a small smirk at his comment.

"Mr. Snipe," Rei said a little louder than she probably needed to, hoping to draw attention away from her snickering friends. "We had a question about detention today."

Snipe turned to the girls, tilting his head a little to the side. "I think you got a little mixed up," he said, pointing towards Izumi and Logan. "Those two have detention. You don't."

Rei shrugged. "Well, see, we're a bit of a package deal. If one of us stays for detention, the other two do too."

"They have detention already?" Midnight interrupted.

"It's only been half a day," Ectoplasm chimed in.

Snipe shook his head. "They got it in homeroom, to boot." He looked back at Rei. "Well, alright. What was your question?"

"Where the fu- Where are we supposed to go? Is there some sort of special room or do we just stay after in our classroom?" Izumi asked.

"Just stay in the classroom," Snipe said, turning back to his desk. "I'll meet you there after the final bell."

"Alright. Sounds good. Also, I was wondering if it would be possible to exempt English class. English is my first language, so it would probably be rather redundant," Logan pointed out, looking over towards Present Mic.

Sniped nodded. "Yeah, I took a look at your file after homeroom when you said you were from America. You only moved out here about 5 years ago and your family already own a very successful international company," he said as he leaned back a little in his chair. "What made you decide to come here for business school? It seems you already have a set future."

"Yeah, but I have some plans for the company when I take over," she said firmly. "They are going to require working with a lot of other businesses and U.A.'s reputation can help with networking. It might be hero focused, but it is still the top business program in the country."

Sniped mulled over the idea for a moment. "Alright, well, we can look into you taking another course in that block or possibly doing some kind of independent study." He turned to look around the room, spotting Thirteen over by her desk. "Hey Thirteen, could you come over here please? Would it be possible for this girl to take another class with you during 6th period."

"I have a senior level marketing class during 6th period, so I don't think that will work. I could possibly set her up with some sort of independent study project for the year," Thirteen suggested.

"Does that sound okay to you, little lassie?"

"Sure, that sounds fine, but what would I need to do for the project?"

"I'm not sure yet. Just go ahead and go to english today, and I will stop by during your detention with Snipe to let you know what assignment I find."

"Okay, thank you! We are going to go ahead and head back to our classroom for now then. Have a good day!" Logan gave a small wave as she walked out of the classroom with her friends.

The last two classes went by without incident. Logan was on her phone throughout the entirety of Present Mic's English class, but since this would be her one and only day in the class, he didn't particularly care. The final bell finally rang, releasing the other students while the three girls remained in the classroom. Snipe walked in shortly after the bell rang, exchanging a few quick words with Present Mic before taking a seat at the desk.

"Hey Snipe," Logan called, standing from her seat. "Can I fire your gun?"

Snipe looked up, baffled. "Well, no. You really should call me-"

"Aw, come on Snipe," Logan cut him off. "We're buddies aren't we?"

"We aren't pals. I'm your teacher."

Izumi walked over to stand beside Logan at her desk. "You know, I'm no psychologist, but I've heard that student and teacher bonding plays a crucial role in the student's potential for success."

"And what does that have to do with my gun?"

"There's no greater bonding exercise than firing off your buddy's firearm," Logan said with a grin.

Snipe shook his head. "Oh no, I ain't falling for this again."

Rei stared at him. "Again?"

The conversation was stopped short by a soft knock at the door. Thirteen opened it and walked in, looking between the students and teacher. "Hello," she said politely. "How was everyone's first day?"

"Good, Thirteen," the girls said in unison with the sweetest voices they could muster.

"What in tarnation? Do you all have split personalities?" Snipe stared at them in confusion.

Thirteen breezed right past it. "Logan, I've come up with something for you to do in sixth period in place of English," she began, walking over to the girl's desk. "You're going to be working on an independent study project in Eraser Head's class."

"Doesn't he teach for the hero course?" Logan asked, raising an eyebrow. "My file should say I don't have a quirk, so if I have to do anything I'm going to be at a steep disadvantage. Oh well, I mean I can probably still kick their ass anyways."

"No, you definitely can't," Izumi and Rei said in unison.

"Don't worry, you won't be participating," Thirteen clarified. "You'll be observing the students and coming up with marketing strategies for each one of them over the course of the year. The project has already been approved by the Principal, so you should start tomorrow. Aizawa hasn't been informed yet, but if he gives you any trouble, you can refer him to the principal with any questions."

Once they were released from detention, the girls went back to Logan's house to work on their homework together. "Are you going to come over for dinner again tonight?" Rei asked Logan.

"Actually, I think I might just stay here, order a pizza, maybe play some video games. I just want to relax after the first day."

"Yeah, also, there is something we really need to discuss. You guys heard that news report right?" Rei set her notebook aside. "They brought in heroes to start looking for us and they have a growing investigation. We need to be more careful. We need to either slow down on our activity or we need to start patrolling new areas and hunting people further away from here."

"Hmm. I still want to be able to do as much work as we want so we should just expand our area. If we are going to be going further out than usual Izu should totally build us a car."

Izumi let out a laugh. "Okay let's say I built a fucking car. Who the fuck is going to drive it?"

"I can drive it for us," Logan said, crossing her arms.

Rei gave her a questioning look. "You can drive the car for us?"

"Yeah."

"You?" Rei repeated.

"Yep."

Rei let out an exasperated sigh. "None of us have licenses and we all have no experience driving," she said, gesturing between the three of them."

"Hey, we used to ride GoKarts together," Logan pointed out.

"We only did that once because you ended up getting us kicked out when you crashed full force into the fence around the track," Rei reminded her, sounding more exasperated than before.

Logan smiled innocently. "Hey babes. People change. You can't hold that against me forever. I can figure out how to drive a car."

"Logan. That was less than a month ago," Izumi deadpanned.

Logan broke down into laughter, "Alright. Fine. Okay. You broke me. I will just compromise and let you make jet packs instead." She grabbed Izumi and Rei, pushing them out the front door before they had the chance to rebuttal. "I will see you both tomorrow," she yelled, closing the door.

Izumi and Rei made their way home just in time for dinner. Their parents interrogated them about their first day of classes through dinner. Izumi asked to be excused as soon as she finished and headed to her room, pulling out the notebook she designs all of her future creations in.

Izumi sat back in her desk chair and thought to herself, "Jetpacts huh? I haven't been making any more progress on the suits, plus, that actually isn't a horrible idea. They would have to be light though, maybe I could use a mix of carbon fiber and a magnesium/steel alloy. I still haven't figured out how to get the nano tech to work when combining substances, so I wouldn't want it to be too complex. I can't have it work off of fuel or use combustion. Maybe I can find a way to create an air compression system of some sort that can give us flight. The externals could be made from the magnesium/steel alloy because they won't have to deal with as much stress as the internals. If I can manage to get a compression system made out of entirely carbon fiber though it might just be possible. I would still need to design something that will hold the homes for both the carbon fiber and the alloy nano bots if I do. It also has to look at least decent if I want Logan to accept it. The earring set worked well enough for the helmet, but this is going to require significantly more bots so the housings are going to have to be bigger... Oh well I'll figure out the specifics later. Maybe mom can help with designing a miniature air compression system, but I would need some sort of excuse for it," She scribbled down her thoughts and let her mind run wild. Her brainstorming was interrupted by a soft knocking at the door, which cut her thoughts short and forced her to look away from the page she was working on. "Come in," she called, only now realizing that her eyes were burning.

Rei peeked through the doorway, fully opening the door when she saw that Izumi was only sitting at her desk. "Hey, I just noticed that the light is still on," she said. She checked the time on her phone. "It's past midnight, you know."

Izumi rubbed her eyes, then shut her notebook and slid it back into her desk drawer. "Oh, damn. I lost track of time," she mumbled, standing from her chair and stretching.

"What were you working on?" Rei asked, leaning against the doorframe.

Izumi smiled. "Jetpacks."
