"UGH! WHERE IS HE!" Marinette grumbles as she chews on her thumb. She had no clue where she had picked up the habit but ever since she did she sort of felt like a total badass. Alya power walks beside her best friend. Holding her long stemmed flower in one hand and trying to avoid crushing it. After all she still had to ask her boyfriend to the dance...
"You don't think you're overreacting just a bit?" Alya deadpanned, she knew how easy it was to work Marinette up, that was sort of why she loved hanging out with her. Just to see how extreme it might get. It was actually sort of super entertaining. And it was helpful because Marinette always thought of the best and worst possible situations that might arise, so it was super easy to see the best and the worst of any given situation.
Marinette turned on her friend with a hand to her chest and breathed inwards over dramatically, as if Alya had just slapped her across the face.
Marinette gripped Alya by the shoulders and squeezed with a desperate look in her eyes.
"ALYA! I am shocked with you! Just absolutely shocked! This is Adrien we are talking about here! Literally the most gorgeous perfect man in the world! If I don't ask him out quickly then all the other girls in the school are going to jump on this opportunity! And what will happen if he says yes to someone? Everyone else would be heartbroken! Or go nuts! Or form a mob! Do you want mob mentality to rule the school Alya? Do you?!" Marinette said shaking Alya slightly. The slightly taller girl just planted her feet and let her friend get it out of her system.
"Are you done girl?" Alya asked sarcastically. She loved Marinette like a sister, but that didn't mean that her random tangents couldn't irritate her sometimes. "Besides whose to say that you asking him out and him saying yes won't just make a bigger angrier mob?" Alya rightfully points out. Which just makes Marinette freeze up as that possibility rolls through her head rapidly. Alya sort of regrets pointing that out, now it would be jinxing her best friend all day.
"I'm kidding, don't stew on it girl. We are totally going to have you ask out Adrien and he is totally going to say yes and he is going to take you to the dance and its going to be incredibly romantic. Got it?" Alya said patting Marinette on the shoulder as the two walked out of the front of the school. Marinette grinned and nodded in agreement. She was glad that she and Alya were such good friends. She could give such awesome pep talks!
"Have either of you seen Adrien?" A voice said from beside the two of them. Marinette yelped and skidded down two steps before regaining her balance and glancing around with her hands up in karate stance ready to dispense some justice. Instead she just caught the cool collected eyes of Kagami. Marinette instantly relaxed her stance. Mostly because Kagami was an experienced fencer and could probably find some way to take her down. And secondly because she actually liked Kagami quite a bit. Sure she was strange and aloof and had less then stellar people skills. But she was also head strong, determined, encouraging, cute as a kitten...
Marinette shook her head and regathered her thoughts. She had no idea why her mind kept on going off track. After all she had to focus on Adrien today! Not on how cute and perfect Kagami was!
"Hey Kagami." Alya said waving her hand a little, the girl was always so guarded that Alya always felt a little awkward, but she tried to be polite. She couldn't blame her, from what Alya was able to learn apparently Kagami's upbringing was even harsher then Adriens. Which seemed nearly impossible! But she tried to be as patient and polite as possible.
"Alya Cesaire. Marinette Dupain Cheng. I am looking for Adrien. Have either of you seen him?" Kagami said curtly, her hands folded tightly behind her back and her shoulders back.
"We're actually looking for him now too. Marinette here want's to ask him out to the dance." Alya said nudging her BFF's shoulder affectionately. Kagami's face drained of color just as Marinette's flushed. Both girls looked at each other and then away. And then Alya realized just what she had done. Her throat when dry with realization. After all Kagami and Marinette were sort of rivals for Adrien's love...
So Alya probably had just made things super awkward.
"I...well...It's just...this dance is coming up you see..."Marinette began quickly as Kagami held up her phone to show a screen shot of a poster advertising the dance. Both girls looked at it and then up at Kagami in confusion.
"I am well aware. Gabriel Agreste contacted my mother who contacted me and told me to go and be Adrien's companion to the dance. She said that it would be good for both of our companies. But if you are intending on asking him out instead..." Kagami said icily as Marinette gulped nervously.
"NO! I meant...You see...I thought that it would be fun to ask him to go with Alya and me! And Nino! Yeah! The three of us were going as a couple! I mean a trouple! NO! THREESOME!" Alya snorted and tried to disguise it behind a cough as she glanced at her bestie in amazement. Kagami gave the term a raised eyebrow as Marinette's blush turned from crimson to sunburnt.
"I mean as a friend group! I wanted to ask Adrien to come with me, Nino and Alya as a group of friends! And now that you're here...It might actually...Well..."MArinette held out the white flower in her hand. Alya's jaw dropped. Kagami put a hand to her chest in surprise. As if she expected the flower to actually be a hidden knife.
"Would you like to accompany us too? As a friend? You would be more then welcome." Marinette said smiling sweetly as Kagami gazed in shock down at the flower and then back up at Marinette. As if she didn't know how to respond to this.
"I...Yes...If Adrien will be there. And you will be there...It would be delightful." Kagami said slowly and carefully. Marinette smiled widely as Kagami took the flower. Sniffed it, and then tucked it into her lapel before bowing to both girls and turning smartly on her heel and marching away. Marinette smiled and waved the girl away before the dawning realization began to crush down around her.
"What have I just done?" She grumbles as her knees gave out from underneath her.
"Uhhh, apparently entered into some weird throuple situation between you me and Nino." Alya deadpanned as she dragged her best friend back up. Marinette groans as she rubs her face.
"And you just asked out Kagami instead of Adrien so there's that too." Alya pointed out, which brought on another long and loud moan from Marinette.
"Alya why am I like this?" Marinette complains as Alya chuckles and leads her back inside. It was too late to walk back home for a decent lunch, which meant they would have to stick to crappy cafeteria food.
"Because you are great at giving out advice but incapable of actually following your own and it shows. Like...watch this...You see Marc sitting over there making goo goo eyes at Nathaniel?" Alya said pointing towards where the young man was sitting, Marc had his notebook out with a bright pink flower beside him. He was glancing at a poem he was writing and theng azing at the red headed boy who was talking to Alix and chuckling slightly.
"Awe...The two of them are so cute together. Why doesn't he just go over and talk to him?" Marinette said. She tapped her chin for a second before quickly walking over towards him. Alya facepalmed as she followed after.
"Hey Marc." Marinette chirped in greeting as she plopped down beside the young man. Marc yelped and grinned back with a happy disarming smile.
"Oh. Hello Marinette. Alya." He said glancing between the two girls. Marinette glanced at Nathaniel and then back at Marc with a knowing smile.
"You know I am sure that Nathaniel would say yes if you asked him to the dance. Just walk over there and talk to him." She said as she picked up his flower and pressed it to his hands.
"Am I really that obvious?" Marc asks blushing as he glances at the gorgeous, incredibly talented short artist. Marc felt his heart starting to thrump faster and faster in his chest. He gulped, his throat felt so dry and the asphalt so large...
"But...why would I even say to him? I mean he is just so...so...so perfect!" Marc said desperately. Marinette smiled and tapped Marc's notebook.
"Don't say anything. Write anything. A poem. A line. Even just 'Dance?' I am sure that he will go for it!" MArinette said encouragingly. Marc nodded in response and quickly started writing something, frowned and erased it, then rewrote and rewrote and reworked and then stood up with the most grateful smile on his face.
"Thanks Marinette! You're the absolute best!" He said in delight as he quickly started towards Nathaniel with the flower in one hand and the notebook in the other.
"See? Just what I said. Good at helping others, but when it comes to Adrien...It's like the entire universe is working against you or something girl." Alya said teasingly as the two stood up and started towards the cafeteria.
Nathaniel took the notebook. Smiled, nodded, embraced Marc and took the pink flower before putting it in his shirt pocket. The pink contrasting nicely to his shirt. He handed Marc's his, making the black haired boy blush deeply.
"What can I say? It's a gift I guess." Marinette said as the two walked past the classroom. Marinette glanced in quickly. Sabrina was seated at her desk. Stock still. A white flower in her shirt pocket. Marinette smiled to herself. Good for Sabrina. That was nice that someone asked her to the dance. She deserved it for putting up with Chloe practically twenty four seven. IT was almost like Sabrina had her own sort of super power or something.
The two friends entered the cafeteria. Nino was seated with Ivan and Max and talking about something. He waved to Alya and moved to get up. Alya grinned and motioned that she was fine and that they would talk soon. They were so on the same page that it was scary sometimes. The two were practically psychic. It could really freak out their friends when they chose to use it.
Nino paused and gazed over Alya's shoulder, his eyes widened. His throat constricted. He glanced at Marinette and then back over Alya's shoulders. Alya paused, turned and her eyes widened.
Marinette wondered why the entire lunch room had gotten so silent all of a sudden. It was as if everyone was holding their breath. Like a thousand pins had just dropped. They were all glancing at the doors in amazement and silence. Marinette turned around to see what everyone was looking at. Her breath stopped in her throat and she froze like a statue. Her jaw dropped and her eyes widened. She looked like just all the other students.
Adrien stood in the lunch room doorway with a white flower in his shirt pocket. He glanced around in confusion, wondering just what everyone was staring at.
Did he have something on his cheek?
