Adrien did a double take when he heard a large crash and then he spotted a few dress mannequins as they fell over in a store window. He squinted and tried to see through the glare reflecting off of the window.
"Was that Marinette? I couldn't tell." Adrien asked Nino who glanced up from his phone for a second. Nino glanced in the general direction that Adrien pointed out and then shrugged in a noncommittal way.
"You tell me dude. I wasn't looking." Nino said as Adrien glanced back. If it was Marinette then she was certainly doing a good job of hiding. He wondered if there was a reason she was hiding...Or if she was hiding from someone.
For a second he worried that she was hiding from him...But that was crazy talk! After all the two of them were great friends. He was sure that if they spotted each other they would definitely say hello at least.
Adrien went back to focussing on something more important then whether or not Marinette was hiding somewhere near by. And that was choosing an outfit for the dance that seemed like it was going to be coming up any second now instead of at the end of the week.
"So I was thinking that we would check out the tuxedo shop before we pop into-"Adrien was grabbed by Nino as he walked into a store that Adrien hadn't been expecting and yelped a little as he stumbled to keep up.
"Here! This is a good place. Sorry dude I don't really do fancy shopping." Nino said as they marched through the aisles. Adrien had never really bought anything directly off of the rack before. Most of his clothes were designed and produced by his father. It was a good way to make sure that everything fit perfectly. But it also meant that he had never been permitted to wear anything that was even remotely baggy. Sometimes he felt as if he was missing out on something.
"Oh this could work." Adrien said stopping to pick up a suit jacket that was bright orange. It would probably match Sabrina's hair very well. But what if she was going to be wearing something different? They didn't want their colors to clash, something simple and non committal like white or black would match very well. If not better.
"Nah man. You should go with green, you look good in green. Or a bit of red, you have the kind of personality where red just pops." Nino said as he picked up his phone again.
"Is everything okay Nino? You seem really distracted by that thing. You're almost turning into Alya." Adrien joked as Nino flushed and put his phone away again.
"Yeah sorry about that dude, I think that I'm waiting on her to ask me out. Or she's waiting on me or we are like waiting on each other. It's this entire thing." Nino said as he chuckled at the sheer irritation of being a young dude in a pretty committed relationship. Adrien gripped his shoulder and grinned.
"It will work out, the two of you have possibly the best relationship out of anyone in the class. The entirety of Paris maybe."
"What about Ivan and Mylene?"
"That's not fair those two are pretty much married. The best dating relationship out of anyone in the class."
"Rose and Juleka." Nino said simply. Adrien blinked in sharp surprise.
"Those two are a thing?"
"Since forever."
Adrien considered it for a second then nodded. Yeah that actually made a lot of sense.
"Okay. Third best relationship. That's good enough right? You can't beat third place." Adrien said as he went back to the shelves. "Boy if my father found out that I was in here I'm pretty sure that he would disown me. Or never let me leave the house again."
"Your old man is a psycho dude. Hey do you think Alya would like this orange one? She looks just so good in orange." Nino said as he picked up a tuxedo that resembled something from an absurd American film. Adrien chuckled and nodded.
"You would look ridiculous in that. You've got to get it." Adrien said before he paused and glanced around rapidly. His kitty chat senses were tingling!
"Nino. Hide. Now." Adrien said ducking into the racks of clothes and squatting. Nino like the best dude that he was instantly was down with Adrien. So even if they did look ridiculous they at least looked ridiculous together. That was true BFF stuff right there!
"Dude?" Nino whispered as Adrien put a hand over Nino's mouth and shushed him. Thirty seconds later the front door to the store was torn open and a large group of girls came sprinting in.
"He's going to be mine!" One of them shouted. Another one elbowed her in the throat and jumped over her like some sort of mad dog.
"UGH! In your dreams! He's got a lot of explaining to do!"
"ADRIEN! I know you can hear me! Come out and we can discuss this!"
Adrien quickly began crab walking through the aisles as Nino followed him, sometimes glancing up and over the racks to see where the girls were.
"Dude what in the world is going on?"
"Psycho fans. I should have figured news would have traveled about me asking someone out."
"Does this happen often?" Nino quirked an eyebrow before they got to the backroom and quickly slipped through.
"Eh, it's calmed down since I first started modeling. But it still happens now and again." Adrien said completely unconcerned that one of those girls out front was probably willing to tie him to a bed and do indescribable things to him.
"Dude." Nino said calmly before glancing at his phone as it rumbled in his grip. "Oh no."
"Oh no what?"
"Oh no her." Nino held up his phone showing a picture of Alya's older sister flipping him off, the phone vibrating rapidly.
"Why is she calling you?"
"Dude I don't know! I'm not going to answer it. She's nuts." Nino said as he hung up. His entire face went pale before he clutched his head in fear and screeched at the top of his lungs. "URGH! WHY DID I JUST DO THAT! NOW SHE'S GOING TO HUNT ME DOWN AND KILL ME!"
The entire store turned to glance at Nino which gave Adrien the perfect opportunity to rush forwards and past the swinging double doors that read Employees Only.
Adrien panted as he squatted and glanced out the door at Nino who looked surprised, shrugged and texted someone. Adrien got the text a second later and responded. Nino glanced at the door. Nodded and pointed outside.
"THERE HE GOES! IT'S ADRIEN!"
The crowd of girls that had descended into a hair pulling biting, kicking scramble all quickly jumped to their feet and sprinted from the store. Much to Adrien's relief. The Employees didn't seem to mind too much that the entire store was now a complete and total mess. Adrien sighed and stood up. He would give them a few minutes to get away. Relax and then he would go right back out and find the perfect suit to wear for this dance.
Adrien paused and looked around the very large storage room. There were large piles of clothes everywhere. Racks of clothes hangers, and a few mannequins that were standing around in odd poses. PRobably just waiting for someone to replace them or put some clothes on them and put them on the floor. Adrien walked around the room slowly. It was a little freaky. Like being in an entirely empty world.
He paused near a shorter female mannequin. It was about the same height as Sabrine. There was even a small orange wig on top that really added to the illusion. Adrien glanced around, he had to make sure that he was alone or else everyone would probably think that he had gone completely insane. He went to a pile of clothes and found a few things, a skirt that he wrapped around the middle, a bright red jacket with a black stripe down the back and a pair of old tossed away opera gloves.
Adrien quickly put the things ont he mannequin and grinned. It looked sort of like a person now.
"May I have this dance my lady?" He said as he did a little flourish and gripped the mannequin around the waist and by the hand.
"Okay it's been a little while so let's see if I remember all of this. Step one two three four. Step one two three four." He said as he began to lead the mannequin around the room like it was a living person and they were in an actual dance. Hopefully Sabrina would not be as stiff as this when they actually danced. Because Adrien loved to dance. It was fantastic. It felt just like flying in his opinion. He grinned and chuckled. The bright black swishing skirt, the neon like red jacket. The hair...
It actually did sort of feel like he was dancing with someone. He did a quick spin, brought the mannequin high over his head and then placed it back down gently and carefully.
"There we go. Good job." He said as he stepped away and bowed. For a second when he looked up he did a double take. The mannequin actually looked oddly enough sort of like Ladybug. The red, the height, the real deal was much more energetic though. He chuckled and shook his head. He was almost thinking that Sabrina could pass for a decent Ladybug. But no, she had been in the same place as the real one way too many times! You would have to be insane to mix them up!
He heard a slightly muffled chuckled from behind. Adrien spun with his arms up in a karate pose and was prepared to backflip away like something out of a karate movie. He sighed and relaxed. It was just Nino.
"Seriously bro? I leave you alone for what thirty seconds and you're already wooing a mannequin? If anyone could make a mannequin fall in love with them it would be you. Charmer." Nino walked over and draped his arm around Adrien's shoulders before affectionately hitting him on the chin. "Okay one more one more. Weren't those girls out there enough for you cassanova?"
"Promise me that you will forget everything that you just saw please." Adrien chuckled as Nino shook his head as the two strolled out of the employee only center and then out of the store.
"Dude I am going to bring it up at your bachelor party and embarrass you so hard in front of your future spouse. Or knowing you spouses."
"I'm not going to start committing bigamy. I'm a one girl sort of man." Adrien said straightening up and puffing out his chest overly dramatically.
"Yeah? Well then bro spill. Whose the lucky lady?" Nino said flicking the flower Adrien had in his shirt pocket. Adrien visibly deflated and gulped nervously. Nino frowned in irritation. Bro's weren't supposed to keep secrets from each other! He would never hide something from Adrien if he asked him! Nino always wore his heart on his sleeve! It was one of his greatest quirks!
"I...well..."Adrien gulped and tried to think of something to say. He wasn't ashamed of asking Sabrina. But she hadn't advertised around the school, and she had seemed so sad before hand. He bet that there was something that she didn't want to come out.
"It's cool." Nino said sharply, dropping the matter and his arm.
"Nino...Don't be mad." Adrien pleaded as Nino just adjusted his cap.
"No. Is cool bro. Is Cool. Don't worry about it. Let's get some coffee or something."
"Well shoot." Alya said as she glanced at her phone then back at Marinette who was wearing a bright pink white polka dot dress that flared out sharply around her hips. She frankly thought she looked like a teenager.
"Yeah, no way girl. You and Kagami will clash. Go with the floor length green and black." Alya said as Marinette rolled her eyes before glancing over her besties shoulder.
"Oh no. Nora's going to kill him." Marinette said as she saw the texts crawling over Alya's screen.
"Told her not to call him. Ugh. She's the worst." Alya mumbled rubbing her forehead. Marinette however wasn't listening. She had spotted Adrien. He was walking with Nino. Right outside the shop.
