Chapter 3:
Unofficial date:
Stoick handed a file. "We believe that Dagur the Deranged likes to hang at two places, a strippers club and a night club. We need you and your partner on him. He goes on Wednesdays to the night club.". Hiccup sighed. He looked at Astrid. "Gotta dress, make up and high heels?". Astrid nodded. "Why?". Hiccup sighed. "Your my date.". Walking off.
Around 18:00 they arrived at the night club. Hiccup was in a black suit with a black shirt and black tie. Astrid was wearing a blue dress. Red heels, loose hair with red lips. She always dreamt of dating Hiccup, just not like this. They sat at the pub. As Hiccup was drinking some whiskey a man sat next to him. "Hey brother.". Hiccup crushed his glass. "You have no right for that.". The man smiled evilly. "Why not. (Looking at Astrid.). This your b*tch?". Hiccup punched the man right in his jaw. "For your benefit she's my partner. Dagur.". Astrid looked at the two men. Hiccup was dealing with the Berserker's boss. And he was his former partner? Dagur only rubbed his jaw. "Still got a hit. Say hi to the wife for me.". Hiccup kicked the crime boss. "She's your f*cking sister. You used her to get to me. I loved her!". Dagur liked this. "Well, who was the one to f*ck her?". Hiccup took a glass bottle and hit it on Dagur's head. "For your benefit I can drag you're a*s to prison. Which I am gonna do. You're under arrest for murder, drug trafficking, rape and lastly, assaulting a cop.". Hiccup smirked. "Lifetime buddy.". With that he walked with Dagur to the car, threw him in and drove to the station. At the station he took Dagur to a holding cell. Sat at his desk working on the paperwork. Astrid then gave a small smile. "Thanks, for defending me back there.". Hiccup only smiled back. "Part of the job.". Astrid then asked a serious question. "What, made you become a cop?". Hiccup laughed. "I am not just a cop. I am a writer too. Ever heard of the author Night Fury?". " He wrote Lethal Cop.". Astrid chuckled. "Yeah, my favourite novel, why.". Hiccup smirked. Astrid was wide eyed. "You are Night Fury?". Hiccup nodded. "Being a cop was part of family blood. Writer is a side career.". Hiccup then answered his phone. "Detective Haddock. No Heather, never call this number.". Banging the phone against the desk. "That woman is such a menace!". Astrid sighed. "The ex?". Hiccup nodded.
(Flashback.).
Hiccup was in the gym doing Pull ups. He was only eighteen and an eye catcher for the girls. He went from unknown to most popular amongst girls in one night. Ever sense the Homecoming dance the girls were eager to date him. All Hiccup did was train, he was eager to become a cop like his father. Even if his father didn't like the idea. It was at that moment when Dagur came in. But in High School Hiccup and Dagur were the best of friends. "So, plans for the weekend?". Hiccup just laughed. "Going on a fishing trip with dad. You?". Dagur only shook his head. "No plans. Wanna do a game night tomorrow?". Hiccup nodded. "Yeah why not.". Then Astrid jogged in. Hiccup just pulled over a shirt. "Why is it, that everywhere I go, she ends up there too?". Dagur snickered. "Maybe, she likes you.". Hiccup putted on his glasses. "That makes seventy-two.". Dagur looked as confused as his grandma back in grade five. "You counted all of them?". Hiccup nodded wiping away some sweat from his brow. "Gotta be prepared. What about you?". Dagur rolled his eyes. "Sixty-nine.". Both men laughed. "Seriously bro? Sixty-nine?". Dagur nodded. Even if Hiccup and Dagur are class nerds, they're muscular built bodies got the girls attention. They didn't like it but they weren't mean to the fan girls. They just rubbed it off.
After Hiccup cleaned up he grabbed his bag and walked for the door, only to get stopped by Astrid. "Hey, uhmm, why did you keep your muscles secretive. I mean you and Dagur blasted through the popularity ranks.". Hiccup sighed. "Long story. Short. I don't like the popularity. Too much attention. Makes me nervous.".
(Flashback ends.).
After the shift was over Astrid was working on her last bit of the report. She was getting sleepy. Hiccup wasn't even close to that. "You look like hell.". Astrid yawned. "Yeah, you look fine.". Hiccup sighed and closed the file. "Shift's over.". After that he walked for the door. Hopping on a Ducati and drove home. Astrid went to her car. As she was driving home, she was thinking about everything different around Hiccup. He wasn't as shut as he used to be. He was very strict with what people called him and he takes bullies in a different way. At her mother's apartment she was scanning through her High school yearbooks. Seeing herself. Top athletic. She looking at Hiccup's photo. Top academic and biggest surprise giver. For some reason she drew a heart on all Hiccup's pictures. He was in only two pictures. She then noticed that Hiccup wasn't wearing his glasses anymore. Could he be using contact lenses? Or did he get laser eye surgery. That gave her another flashback. A very painful one.
(Flashback.).
Astrid was sitting in her room, crying. Her mother was sitting next to her. "Astrid, it's okay, so he wasn't interested in you. There are other men out there.". Astrid was red in her face. "But he told me he wasn't ever going to see me as worthy.". Astrid's mother then sighed. "Darling, he was hurt and bullied all his life. If you told him your feelings instead of just asking him, he might have considered.". Astrid then received a phone call. It was Scot. She then answered it. She excepted his offer of going out with him.
That caused her to loose her virginity two years after high school.
(Flashback ends.).
Hiccup was sitting and petting his German Sheppard. They named him Fury because no one could tame it. But Hiccup did. He was thinking of when he found out his ex wife was cheating on him for his cousin. He wanted that divorce right away. Luckily she signed a premarital to say she won't get anything after a divorce. Out of frustration he kicked the punching bag after throwing his marriage photo. But something wasn't right. Why was it so easy catching Dagur. Something in his gut said it wasn't right. But he sat there. Pulling out a beer, he swallowed it all. His phone rang, it was Astrid. Answering it. "Haddock.". Astrid felt a little nervous. "Hey, um, are you busy?". Hiccup looked confused. "Just drinking a beer.". Astrid then gave a loud sigh. "So, I was wondering. Why a cop? I know it was a family thing, but why?". Hiccup sighed. "When I was a teen, this woman was shot, as she was bleeding out I called the police. When they arrived it was to late. I decided to become a cop to help others.". Astrid just shed a tear. "What about you?" he asked. Astrid thought of it. "I don't know, probably because I thought it would be a great job. Why are you so good at your job?". Hiccup laughed. "I think it's because I have a way of persuading people.".
