Chapter 1: Yami Kiri No Mi

Luffy was mad at Shanks. He was a pirate, but acted like a coward in front of those bandits! Showing his mood, he decided to eat the weird looking fruit locked inside of the chest. It tastes gross, so after one bite he felt like throwing up.

"Captain! Luffy ate the devil fruit!" Someone screamed and Shanks's head snapped from Makino to Luffy, eyes widen in shock.

He grabbed Luffy by the legs and started to shake him "Spit it out! Puke it! I don't care! Just give it back!" As he shook Luffy, his legs turned into some dark-greenish mist making Luffy fall on his face. The mist got stuck on Shanks hands and it started to burn. He quickly activated Haki and the mist dissolved, leaving small burn marks on his hands.

"A-Are you okay Shanks?" Luffy said seeing Shanks's frown.

Shanks quickly smiled "Yeah Anchor. Only that you ate our devil fruit. It is worth a lot, y'know?"

Luffy gulped "S-Sorry."

Shanks laughed "Don't worry Anchor, but you need to control it. The mist is quite dangerous." He said showing the burns in his hands. "You can harm people with that."

Luffy look down, saddened and tears coming to his eyes. He was mad at Shanks, but didn't meant to harm him. Shanks ruffled his hair, as Mist started to form, quickly protecting himself with haki. "Welp, that means we can stay a bit more to help you control it, right boys!?"

The pirates cheered and Makino looked nervous "Captain; are you sure this is a good idea?"

Shanks grinned at her "It would be a bad idea to not teach him. The fruit power is really dangerous, one of the most dangerous dares I say."

Makino gulped "W-What does it do?"

"The Yami Kiri No Mi, Dark Mist."

*Next Day, Party Bar*

"Did you understand?" Shanks asked for what it felt for the 100th time to Luffy who shook his head smiling.

"Nop!"

Shanks gripped his head and sighed as Makino giggled "Captain; you are being too harsh. Let me try."

Shanks nodded "Sure, knock yourself out."

Makino sat in front of Luffy, "Okay Luffy; your fruit is a logia type, it means you can turn into something, in your case, mist." She said slowly and Luffy nodded "But it is a special mist, it can eat anything it touches." Luffy opened his mouth receiving the information and understanding it.

"OH! I get it."

"HOW!?" Shanks screamed as the pirates watching the class while drinking laughed.

"Y'know captain, maybe I can give you tips to teach and parent." Yasoop said smirking "After all, I am a great father myself, even though-"

"No thank you." Shanks said "Besides, Anchor still needs to control his power."

*Days Later*

"Apologize to Shanks!" Luffy demanded from the bandits who laughed.

"To the coward pirate?" The leader laughed "Why would I?"

"Or I'll kick your ass!" The bandits laughed harder at Luffy threat and Luffy fumed. He had been training his new abilities for a week or so, and he can somewhat (Not really) control the mist. He went forward and punched the first bandit at his intimate parts, making him bend over in pain.

One bandit grabbed Luffy by the back of the shirt and glared at him "You brat! How you dare to attck us!?"

The leader growled "I am killing him now. He is way to annoying."

The town people were watching the scene and the mayor stepped forward. "Please, don't harm him." He begged "We will give you whatever you want, so please, let him go."

"The only thing I want right now, is to kill this little punk." The leader said as he lifted his sword and brought him down on Luffy's head.

Only for it to pass thought the green mist.

"The fuck?" He said as the mist consumed the sword, expanding across the metal. He dropped the sword and threw Luffy to the ground. "Whatever you freak." He pulled out a gun "Time to die."

"Luffy, you sure are one to get into trouble." Shanks said stopping the bandits, and making them laugh.

"If it is the coward pirates. Ran out of things to clean?" The leader mocked and Shanks smiled at Luffy.

"You okay there Anchor?" Luffy nodded, a bit of blood on his forehead due to the slam on the ground and Shanks nodded before glaring at the Bandits.

"You can insult me, attack me, or spit on me, but if you touch one of my friends, you will pay."

Luffy watched in awe how Ben and Lucky dispatched each one of the bandits. He was so deep into that, that he didn't notice the leader sneak behind him and lifting him up.

"Let me leave or the brat dies!" He said aiming his gun at Luffy's head, Shanks making him shake under his glare. "I-I mean it!"

Luffy tried to break free as his black eyes turned bright green "Let... me... GO!"

After saying that, dark green mist exploded from Luffy's body and started to expand across the town, consuming everything in its path.

Shanks reacted quickly, shielding Makino and activating Conqueror's Haki, stopping the mist and making it go back to Luffy. He hissed on the new burns on his body "You okay?" He asked Makino who watched with wide eyes the destruction of the mist.

There wasn't blood, or even meat. Only the bones of the villagers who were consumed remained. Not even the buildings survived, the ones touched by the mist being half or fully destroyed.

"Luffy!" Makino screamed and rushed to the sobbing boy and tried to hug him but the mist reacted and almost touch her. She looked next to the boy and there weren't even the bones of the bandit.

"S-Stay away!" Luffy screamed backing away, scared of what he did. "I-I don't want to hurt you!"

Makino covered her mouth as tears came and Shanks walked to Luffy, sadness in his eyes "Luffy... it wasn't your fault."

Luffy shook his head "Yes it was! I killed them all!" He said in tears.

Shanks didn't answer, he simply walked to him and placed his straw hat on Luffy's head. Luffy looked up and saw Shanks smiling "After some thinking, I decided that you will come with us." Luffy eyes widen "Want to come with us to an adventure?"

"R-Really? A-After all this?" Shanks nodded.

"Really. Want to be my Nakama?"

*Next Day*

Luffy carried his few belongings into the Red Force and Shanks smiled to him "Ready to set sail cabin boy?"

Luffy grinned and nodded "Yes captain!" Shanks smiled seeing Luffy with his straw hat still on.

"WAIT!" Both turned to the voice of Makino carrying her belongings to the boat "I'll go with you too."

Shanks blinked "Are you sure? We will go to the New World, the most dangerous sea."

Makino nodded "I am. I can't leave Luffy alone during this time. And besides, he needs some manners."

Shanks scratched his chin "I don't know..."

"Please Shanks! Can Makino come!" Luffy begged tugging his pant and Shanks sighed.

"Well, you're cooking is great, and Yasoop and Lucky aren't the best at that. So sure, welcome aboard cook."

Makino nodded as she with help of Luffy entered the boat.

And so, the story of the future pirate king began.
