The next morning found the valkyrie and the succubus holding each other as the morning sun began creeping through the window. Tamsin's eyes opened to find Bo looking back at her. She couldn't help but smile.
"Well you look like the cat who ate the canary," Bo said to Tamsin as she caressed her face.
"More like the cat who ate the succubus," Tamsin said nuzzling into Bo's neck, making her laugh.
"This is nice, you and I like this, "Bo said sitting up in bed. "I wish it could stay this way."
"Who's to say it can't? "Tamsin said as she pulled Bo into her and kissed her neck again.
Bo stayed silent and just gave Tamsin a small smile as she sat back. "I need to feed, do you know anyone who can help me with that?"
The Valkyrie grinned and pulled Bo in for a deep kiss. Her heart raced as Bo slowly began to pull chi from her but something was different. She could tell the succubus was holding back by the lack of strength in the pull that usually accompanied the chi being taken. When she was done Bo pressed her lips gently against Tamsin as if to say thank you.
"You know you can take more. I'm a virtual snack bar," Tamsin said wiggling her eyebrows.
"I know, but I'm good," Bo said, once again giving her a slightly sad smile.
"What's going on here? Between the weird jealousy and the sad eyes, I'm feeling a bit confused."
Bo got up and walked over to their bags. "Nothing's going on, I've just got some things on my mind. By the way, do you mind if I don't go with you today? I'm feeling a bit out of it."
"The whole point of you coming down here was to help me find out what's going on," Tamsin said walking over to Bo and forcing her to look her in the face.
"I know but you'll have Remy there and really Tamsin, you don't need me to win any battle."
"Is Remy the reason you don't want to go?"
Bo looked at Tamsin and the valkyrie felt like she could almost see the internal struggle between what the succubus was saying and what she was thinking.
"Not at all. I feel a bit more rational this morning, I know she isn't a threat. I'm just tired Tamsin. Let me go and play tourist and you handle this stuff. I'll be here waiting for you,"Bo said wrapping her arms around the valkyrie.
Not happy about it but knowing she couldn't change her mind, Tamsin nodded her head and kissed Bo's forehead. Her instincts were on alert but she decided to let it go for the time being.
"So, I'm surprised your girlfriend didn't join us," Remy said glancing over at Tamsin as she drove.
Remy had picked her up from the hotel and other than casual pleasantries they hadn't really spoken. Tamsin was too busy reflecting on what Bo was possibly planning to bother with conversation. But after almost ten minutes of silence the shifter's curiosity seemed to win out.
"Me too but with everything that's going on now I should come to expect the unexpected," Tamsin said looking out over the land they were passing.
"I hope it wasn't because of me?"
Tamsin looked over at Remy and finally smiled. "Something tells me that isn't true but no it wasn't because of you."
Remy wrinkled her nose and chuckled, "Well, a girl can hope. And heads up, we're here."
Tamsin looked out the window of the car and was greeted with the site of what was once most likely a plantation. The house was huge, sitting on an expanse of land that seemed to have no end. It was surrounded by greenery and a lake could be seen off in the distance. A man stood on the porch dressed in a beige linen suit minus the jacket. He was tall, at least 6'3, and broad shouldered. His black hair was closely cropped and his skin was a deep golden color showcasing obvious time spent in the sun. From what Tamsin could tell he looked human, none of the characteristics of the attackers she fought in the days before.
"Looks like Augustine was tipped off about our coming," Remy said as she pulled into the driveway.
"Should we be worried?" Tamsin asked, her forehead creased with concern.
"No, he would never mess with law enforcement. He's too concerned about appearances but stay alert."
Remy stopped once they reached a reasonable distance to the house and parked. The two women exited the car and slowly made their way towards the house.
"Well now, this is certainly a surprise," Augustine said as he walked down the steps to meet them. "Had I known we were having guests I could have had my chef whip something up."
Remy waved off the comment. "This isn't a social call Augustine. I've come to question you about some less than savory activities your family may be a part of."
"Question me? Remy, I think you know how this is going to go," Augustine said, the fake smile on his face beginning to drop.
Tamsin stepped forward a bit. "You can lawyer up all you want. It won't stop me from beating the information out of you."
"Well now, who's this gorgeous, feisty little creature?"
"Forget the pleasantries goblin. Someone hired your people to kill me, I want to know who?"
Augustine seemed to contemplate something then indicated for them to follow him into the house. Tamsin scanned their surroundings as they moved taking note of the various men posted around the mansion. Most of them seemed to be casually standing about but she knew they were on guard just as she was. Their weapons for the most part were hidden but she paid special attention to the ones whose hands were resting near their hips that almost always meant a gun wasn't far off.
"Pay my men no mind. It's just a precaution, they mean you no harm."
"Funny, last time I checked they made two attempts on my life already. Sorry if I'm a bit on edge," Tamsin said sarcastically.
Augustine led them into the sitting room and gestured for them to have a seat." I apologize for how formal the space is. This house has been in my family for generations and I don't have it in my heart to change it."
"Save the renovation ideas for HGTV buddy, I want to know what the hell is going on and I want to know now."
"I like this one Remy, too bad you didn't keep her in the picture," Augustine said fixing them all a drink.
"It wasn't I who removed her from it Augy."
"Augy?"Tamsin said looking confused.
Augustine chuckled as he handed them their glasses and sat down with his drink. "Remy and I are distant relatives. But honestly almost everyone in New Orleans is related in some way or another."
Tamsin didn't hide the look of annoyance on her face. "She failed to mention that."
"I don't exactly go around advertising that information. Besides, related or not if he had something to do with an attempt on your life I would still bring him down," Remy said giving him a pointed look.
"As much as I would love to take credit for yet another dastardly deed in your parish dear cousin, I have nothing to do with it. You'd be wanting to talk to Jackson. Assassination contracts are more his forte."
Tamsin rolled her eyes, "Let me guess, another cousin?"
Augustine laughed and nodded his head, "You are correct but lucky for you he's here on the premises. I'll go get him, excuse me."
Tamsin waited for him to leave before turning to Remy with a questioning look on her face.
"I'm sorry, I should have said something but I didn't want you to think I couldn't help you."
"So all of that stuff in the car about him not going against law enforcement was for show?"
" Augy doesn't give two figs about me. If it benefited him he would kill me in a heartbeat but as it stands I'm with the law. So believe it or not that protects me more than any family relation in his book."
"Nice relatives you got," Tamsin said finishing off her drink.
Tamsin's attention jumped over to the entrance of the sitting room as Augustine returned with who she assumed was Jackson. She tried not to react upon seeing him appear behind the other man, the contrasts in their appearances so brutally different. The man contracted to take her life was even bigger than Augustine, he looked to be about 7 feet. He was solid muscle which stood out against the shirt he wore that was strained to cover his massive frame. His skin was the weird grayish color of the men she had fought last and his eyes a disturbing red. When he finally spoke his voice was deep and reverberated throughout the room.
"Augustine tells me you're looking for me."
Tamsin sized him up and tried to think of the best way to bring him down if she needed to. Jackson laughed at her appraisal.
"It's no wonder my men didn't succeed in killing you. By the looks you're giving me I can tell you're a warrior."
Tamsin smirked and stood up. "Jackson, who hired you and why?"
"I can't give you the why, we don't tend to ask those kinds of questions because we don't care. But the who, that is far more interesting. It was a woman, small, brunette, nice body. Said she needed us to do something she couldn't, something she had to do."
Tamsin felt herself go weak and she sat back down staring off into the distance. He couldn't mean who she thought, that wasn't possible and yet the description.
Picking up on her shock, Remy continued questioning him. "Okay, is there more you can give us? That sounds like someone we may know."
"Oh it's someone your friend knows Remy. I would have taken you out blondie when you first arrived here but the contract we had is null and void."
"Why is that?" Tamsin snarled as she brought her focus back on Jackson.
"Because the bitch who hired us killed three of my men. Tell the unaligned succubus next time she wants something dirty done to do it herself."
Yeah, I'm ending it here, lol, I apologize. The next chapter is going to be the end of this story, or at least part one. I'm splitting it into two, part one being my version of season 4 and part two my version of season 5. Next chapter I will give some hints on what to expect in part two. In the meantime , I hope you are enjoying where the story is going and as always I would love feedback since it definitely motivates my writing.
