Chapter 5: Make it or Break it

Lexie was in shock at her sister's words. There was no way that Lexie still loved Mark, right? There was no way in Lexie's mind that she could still love Mark, she had moved on. Lexie decided that she had to leave the conference room so that she could talk freely with her sister. When she's out she goes to an empty room and then tells Meredith "I don't love him. I mean…"

Meredith, on the side of the line shakes her head. Lexie was lying herself "Lexie sweaty it's obvious that you still do."

Lexie looked at the door of the conference room at toke a deep breath before answering her sister "Maybe I am Mere. But I can't…" Lexie starts crying; she sits in the floor and holds her legs closer to the chest. She knew that she was broken because Mark hurt her but because she hurt herself.

Meredith knew why her sister was so afraid of convincing herself of her love for Mark but couldn't keep doing it to herself it only hurt her. Meredith was broken when she arrived to New York but she still saw how Lexie was, she could see the sadness and the pain of losing the man she loved "Lexie listen to me. You have to know what you fell about him otherwise you're going nuts…"

In the conference room, while Meredith and Lexie were talking…

Mark was looking at the door since the moment that Lexie left. He didn't have high hopes for her staying but hearing her saying that she had no reason to stay in Seattle had hurt him to hear that especially since it was right after he told that he still loved her. Maybe not by those exact words but he did told her.

Derek and Hunt looked at each other. They were worried about Mark, they knew how much he still loved Lexie and the pain that he must be.

Mark turns at them and with a look that shows all the pain that he's in it tells them "You guys can help her right? I have to go…"

That was the precise moment that Lexie came back after ending the call. Lexie's eyes and Mark's crossed and at that moment she was sure of what she feels. Marks passes through her without another work. Lexie rises and eyebrow and asks them "What was that?" At the same time Owen and Derek respond but different things. "Emergency" says Derek and "Sophia called" says Hunt, they look at each other a bit shock.

Lexie takes a deep breath before saying to them "If you don't wanna tell them don't…" Lexie picks up the files and thinks to herself *It's time to be professional. That's the only way to keep your sanity right know*. "So I will be staying for a few days observing everything. Consults, emergencies and of course surgeries, I will not interfere unless it's absolutely necessary or if you need me."

And for the next week and half Lexie observed everything of every single department, the head almost never put her eyes on her. She never had to intervene on anything so she passes trough it without any waves. Mark makes sure that he never crosses paths with her; the pain was too much for him to handle.

But in her last day in Seattle he wouldn't be able to avoid her. She summed every doctor on that hospital for a debriefing meeting. It was the last act that Lexie would do in the hospital, she would finally return to her home and to her things. She took a deep breath, as soon as she heard a knock on the door before answering to it "Came in."

In front of her for the first time since she left Seattle 10 years ago there was all the heads of the departs of the hospital. Webber, Derek, Hunt, Torres, Arizona, Altman and of course Mark were there looking at her with questions in their eyes.

"I called you here to tell you that my part of the evaluation is over. I will take my notes to our doctors that will take their conclusion and report to Dr. Webber and the head of the Mount Sinai hospital board." Lexie smiled and then finished her presentation "Their decisions will be final and can't be contest by any of you." As she finished her sentence she looked at Doctor Webber so he knew that this also applied to him. "That is it. It was nice to be here and I hope that all of you have a nice time and good job. Goodbye." Lexie picks up her things and gets out the door without another look to anyone in the room.

Two weeks after the meeting in New York…

Lexie was so glad to be back at New York and to Mount Sinai. It was good to be in control of her life and didn't have to avoid anyone, well almost anyone. As soon as she arrives to the hospital that day she receives a page to go to the conference room fast.

Arriving there she notices that she's the last doctor from Mount Sinai to arrive and when she looks to the person that's talking to Dr. Eric Foreman, the chief of surgery of Mount Sinai Hospital, she is complete shocked. She goes to her sister and Christina and asks her "What is he doing here?"

Christina takes a deep breath preparing herself to answer but is Meredith how tells her the shocking news "They're all coming here…"
