part 3g – Investigation Day 1
When I began my investigation at the request of Tobias Stathe into what killed his daughter, I never expected the raw data to come back that she was slain by a person using a lightsaber. All that was left was to figure out who killed her, and why.
- Baozi Vanvaris, Corellia, 20 days before battle of Geonosis
Observing the body, her body made her slightly confused, she couldnt just touch herself and be exepcted to wake up could she ? Far from it. "So what happens now ?" Undryl asked as she stared at her own body, the four foot tall female Tooka turned to the two humans with her, at least one a near humand one a human. The two Jedi were quiet and thoughtful.
"It seems that based on the raw data of what we can see, the cut is cauterised, no blood." Baozi said
"So someone used a vibro weapon to kill me ?" Undryl asked
"No" Baozi said. "I am thinking it is something far worse"
"What could be worse then a vibro sword ?" Undryl asked, clearly confused
"A lightsaber" came the scarily calm reply.
Undryl raised a fuzzy eyebrow in confusion at Baozi and asked to him. "Are you saying that someone cut me down, with a lightsaber ?" This was just getting better and better.
"It does indeed look that way. Hard as it is to believe, I know Jedi wouldnt do it, a fallen Jedi maybe, but there is also the possiblity of the Sith, but as far as we know, there is only one sith out there still," Baozi said simply
"What about other force users, couldnt they use a lightsaber ?" Nyxia asked
"It depends on the force tradtion, as far as I am aware, only the Jedi and Sith use lightsabers, other traditions might, but I am not as versed in them as I should be" Baozi replied to his padawan. Nyxia had a point, if another force tradition had made the attack. Then it would make sense. Since they didnt know where the Sith were or where to look for the Sith to begin with. Hell nobody even knew what the Sith even looked like. Where they alien, human ? Tattooed ? Young ? Old ? Too many questions.
"So, we now know what killed me, a lightsaber, since the wound is cauterised" Undryl thought. "The questions now are who and why ?"
"I wonder if it is tied to what happened on Coruscant a few minutes ago ?" Nyxia mused. The other two looked at her confused "The holonet is going crazy reporting a bombing, an assassination of the Taris seantor. Taros Cliren. According to the report it happened a few minutes ago."
"He's dead too ?" Undryl asked
"Doubtful. Cliren had so many body doubles its almost impossible to tell him from another of the doubles when they're all in full gear" Baozi said simply, it made Nyxia smirk.
"Bring up the holonet" Undryl said, Nyxia did so, the reports flowing in were first of Undryls untimely demise, then cut to a breaking news report. Taros Cliren had another attempt on his life. And from look of things, it looked like he had gone and bought the farm. But then from what little Undryl knew of the senator, that might not be the case.
"It appears that certain parties want certain targets dead" Baozi mused
"Will we need to return to Coruscant ?" Nyxia asked
"We have a capable pilot, he can get us there even if Corellia's Coronet Spaceport is on lockdown." Baozi said
"He also sells deathsticks" Undryl smirked.
"Who sells Deathsticks ? Nyxia asked, she didnt smell any on the ship. Undryl simply just smirked in a smug manner as Baozi struggled not to laugh. Baozi was the one who had supplied Tooge with the deathsticks in order to buy the ship in the first place.
"Our pilot, Tooge, he dealt in Deathsticks, its how he got the money to buy his ship." Undryl said. She had no idea how she knew it, the Force was really broken recently and her current issues were the last thing on her mind at that moment. "I doubt he has any left, though I think I would like trying one"
"Who knew death has its habit forming drawbacks ?" Baozi smirked as Nyxia just looked at him horrified. She was just now getting the fact that Undryl was dead, but still talking.
"I think your Padawan looks like she has seen a ghost" Undryl said
"The feeling is mutual" Baozi replied, giving Undryl, the human in the room laying dead on the table another careful look. Everything she had on her at the time of her death was kept in that room with her body. But it was not a lot to give good insight as to why someone would want her dead. "Hmmm"
"Something on your mind ?" Undryl asked
"Yeah, given what you had on you at the time of death, credit stick is still intact, it was never touched according to the galactic bank. Your ID Pad is also intact." Baozi replied thoughtfully. "Given that these would normally get stolen upon death or otherwise, and you still had them both"
"It is possible I was killed for a different reason" Undryl said simply. "That morning, I remember it clearly. Shenniah and I were dressed the same, she was my double, we then wore the same outfit. But she was called back to her base, when I was struck down..." Undryl went throughtfully quiet.
What if Shenniah wasnt just called to base, but distracted, as if the call was a fake to have Undryl alone ? What if Undryl was the target and Shenniah was in the way ? Baozi was thinking along the same lines, "Someone must know their protocols, if they managed to get your body double away from you, they're smarter then we thought." He said
"The question is, who attacked me after the vote ? Why ?" Undryl replied
"That I cannot answer, what was the vote about ?" Baozi asked her, once Undryl had explained it to him he handed her the ID Pad and the credit stick the cat took both and put them into her belt bag. The formerly two meter tall woman, now reduced to a meter plus a few centimeters tall Tooka, merely grunted in thanks.
"My guess is when you voted in that manner, someone marked you for dead. Then did the deed." Baozi said
"Wait, Master, you're saying this is polticially motivated ? Right ?" Nyxia asked
Undryl by that point had put her tunic back on and was once more, in a word as best she could be at that moment, dressed. "So whats the plan ? Get to Coruscant and find out what killed me ?"
"I am pretty sure what we're looking for isnt on Coruscant. Or in the Core Worlds for that matter" Baozi replied
"What are we looking for ? Wouldnt the person that killed me be on Coruscant right now ?" Undryl thought
"Answer: At this moment it is hard to decern, but yes, as far as one can guess, the one who killed you is possibly on Coruscant" Came the answer of the melodic voice of the Force
"Thanks, I'll have to remmeber that" Undryl mumbled in thought.
"You were killed here on Corellia, but woke up on Rishi, as a Tooka, as you are now. Your spirit is still around but in a new body, but your old body, well, I will be honest, it stinks, you are dead after all." Nyxia said, "No offense"
"None taken. Though I must admit, I miss being me" Undryl said, it was true, looking on her dead body, she had an almost childlike face, soft skin, when she was alive her eyes were bright and clear. And she wasnt, fuzzy. Her thoughts then drifted to two people. Well, one person and one Nexu. Tapia must be cared for by then right ? The Axial Park zoo offered to take her up from what Undryl remembered. But Undryl had said no.
So she asked "Have you heard anything from Bodgey ?" Baozi gave her a confused look. Undryl sighed, "I mean Master Stardrifter ?"
"Not since her mission to Felucia" Nyxia said.
"When she heard you had died she never returned to the temple, she went to... where did she go ?" Baozi tried to remember. Bodgey had a place she and Undryl would visit when either of them weere down in the dumps. The death of Undryl was sure to put even the stout hearted Jedi down in the dumps.
"Lothal" Undryl said, "Bodgey would go to Lothal. There was a town there, really peaceful, and a farm near it, Sumar's Farm I think it was called, I dont really remember but somehow, I remember going there." Undryl said thoughtfully
"Lothal... there's a Temple there" Nyxia said, "Master Tang and I went there for a test I had to do. I have to admit it wasnt my best experience as a Padawan, but, I did learn to follow my heart. And trust the Force."
"I only have been to Lothal once, but I barely remember it." Undryl admitted, when she had gone to Lothal was witrh her parents, she was around fourteen years or so. "It feels likew it was ages ago, but I was fourteen at the time. I was twenty something when slain two days or so ago."
"We will ask Tooge to get us to Lothal then soon as we can." Baozi said
"Where is Bodgey ?" Undryl wondered to herself
"Answer: target known as Bodgey Stardrifter is currently on Kuat" Came the reply. That was not good news.
"Bodgey is not on Lothal" Undryl said out of the blue. "If anyone can help us find out who killed me and why, its her."
"Master Stardrifter is not on Lothal ?" Nyxia asked her confused
"Correct, shes on Kuat somewhere, if not there with someone who is from there" Undryl said, Baozi didnt say anything, somehow she was speaking from her heart, and trusting the force.
"I guess you do not need to visit the Lothal temple after all" He said simply, Undryl smirked, as much as a Tooka could smirk at least.
"You think ?" Undryl asked him
"I think so" He smirked
"I meant about my body" Undryl said, "If you're right that someone with a lightsaber took me down. Its possible that if we can get Bodgey here she can help find out who killed me, or at least help figure out why I was killed" Undryl sighed then. "I want to talk to my parents. Alone if I can as well."
The two Jedi traded looks. "Should we call them in now ?"
"No, not now." Undryl replied as she shook her head, "If we told them now, they'd tell the holonet. No, not now. Not yet., its not the right time. Mother always believed in rebirth. Father isnt so sure on it himself though"
"But if we told them your mother is right and you're now with the Jedi" Nyxia said
"Mother never trusted the Jedi order as a whole, but she trusts Bodgey though, and Master Yoda. So if we can get either of them to come here, they could convince my mother I am alive." Undryl said in reply.
"Sounds like a plan to me." Baozi broke in. "Nyxia, contact Tooge, tell him to get ready and fueled up, I will speak to Tobias and let him know the case has taken us to Kuat. Yes it might be a rival shipyard, but there is someone there who can be of help. I hope." Baozi then turned to Undryl. "Master Vanvaris, do you still want to go by the name of Undryl Stathe ?"
"At this moment, yes, but, when my father asks about me, call me your cousin, Master Vanvaris." Undryl replied.
"Fair enough. Head for the ship, I will meet you both there" Baozi replied, the three then split up after Undryl locked the door, securing it with a code only she herself, and her mother could unlock.
After a bit of explaining to Tobias Stathe, Undryls father, that the case required one more pair of eyes they had to collect, and the request to keep faith in the Force, and also to wait until after they returned to inspect the body more, at least long enough to come to a conclusion in order to bury or cremate Undryls body when the time came.
