Red. That was the colour that stained the wall. Sakura stopped walking and observed the stain.

It wasn't here when I went to the toilet. Or did I simply miss this?

She shrugged her shoulders and continued walking. The next scene that she saw made her eyes bulging out. One of the women who served food in the eatery was laying on the ground. Red liquids smeared her cheeks and oozed from her clothing. Her eyes were still open and the terrified expression she wore made Sakura felt even more distressed.

Sakura's heart started to beat very fast. She didn't understand what was going on but she was sure that the woman was dead.

Wh-what is going on.. Why..

Crash!

The sound of a fallen dish was heard not far from where she stood. She hid behind the wall that separated the way to the toilet and the way to the inside of that eatery. Her breathing came out shallow and her hands started to shake.

Mommy… Where's mommy? What about dad? Should I go inside? But that woman was laying there…

Sakura tried to gather her courage and slowly she put her little foot in front of the other in the direction of the dead woman. She gulped when she saw the red stain on the wall again. Her shaking hands were pressed to the other wall and she walked sideways, trying to avoid the dead woman on the floor.

She looked at the dead woman one more time and turned around. The sight that greeted her made her fell to the ground. Her mouth was hanging open and her eyes quivered. Tears started to form at the corners of her eyes.

Everyone was dead. That was the first impression that she got from looking at the scene before her. Some people were laying on the floor, blood oozed from their bodies. The others were seated on the chairs, their gaping wounds were visible for all to see.

She looked to the left, near the door where her parents were supposed to sit. From her point of view, she couldn't see her father's unique sakura-shaped hair nor could she see her mother's blonde hair.

"Mom-mommy…? Dad?"

Little Sakura tried to stand up, but her body gave up halfway. She forced herself to crawl instead and her hands were stained by all the blood that was on the floor. Some dead bodies still had their eyes opened and Sakura shook from the realization that she was surrounded by dead people.

"Hiks… Hiks… Mommy, mo- Hah!"

She stopped crawling. There, her parents were laying on the floor. Kunai were on their hands, apparently trying to fight whoever caused this dreaded situation, but failed nonetheless.

Tears were falling harder at the sight that greeted her.

"Mommy! Dad!" Sakura screamed.

She forced herself to move forward no matter how difficult it was for her. Slowly but surely she finally arrived at her parents side. She shook her mother's arm, trying to wake her up. She pulled at her father's sleeve, screaming, asking him to wake up. But none of them woke up. She cried even harder and it felt as if the air was suffocating her.

She cried herself to sleep in the midst of dead bodies.

Beep… beep… beep…

"How is she?"

"Still unconscious. Do you think it's normal for her to be asleep for three days straight?"

"She witnessed a massacre first-hand, I'm sure it takes a toll on her."

"Poor girl. I heard she fainted near her parents' dead bodies."

"Yeah, the anbu team that was dispatched said the scene was too much of a gore for a five years old to see. They said she might need psychiatric assistance later on. And some people from Tactic and Interrogation might come to question her after she wakes up."

"Such a sad event for a girl her age. Where will she stay after this?"

"The Hokage said Konoha orphanage will take her in. She should have been starting the academy too since yesterday."

"Right. Her parents were Konoha shinobi as well."

"I just don't understand the motive behind the massacre, you know? We aren't having a war, and killing innocent people who were simply resting and refreshing themselves in an eatery is ridiculous."

"Well, we don't know how many mad people out there. I'm sure the Hokage is investigating the case too. Who knows it could be a threat towards Konoha? The eatery was right at the strategic spot to and from Konoha."

"You're right. I hope they catch the perpetrators soon."

"Let's go and have lunch. I'll check on her again later."

Two pairs of footsteps walked out of the room. The door was slowly closed to not disturb the patients. Sakura slowly opened her eyes. Her expression was flat. She listened to their chat and she realized what happened at the eatery was real instead of a bad dream. Soon, she'll have to stay in an orphanage. Could she still go to the academy now that she didn't have parents anymore? She didn't know.

At the mere thought of her parents, her eyes started to water again. She sniffled her sobs. Her heart ached so much. She wanted all of this to be a dream but knew better than that. In the silence of the room, she mourned her loss.
