(A/N) I did mention that Shisui's crush is kinda a puppy crush, right? It's at least half an admiration thing, and he'll get over it at some point. Tenten sure as heck isn't going out with him while he's falling over himself whenever she does something suitably epic.

Tenten woke before Shisui, but really, she wasn't surprised. She had woken a good amount before dawn, the time she had usually taken watch. The time most commonly used for an attack.

As she likely had a few hours before she actually had to be awake officially, she went for a walk, marking a few places she figured would be good teleport spots. Mostly ones she had marked the first time around. When Konoha was still intact.

She returned just as the sky was beginning to lighten, finding Shisui dozing in one of his chairs in the living room. He must have woken up to find her gone at some point, and come out to wait for her. She chuckled softly, slipping past him and into the kitchen to check for breakfast foods. She located the ingredients for a simple miso soup and got to work.

A few minutes later, Shisui wandered in, yawning.

"Morning," Tenten greeted, nodding to him.

Shisui yawned again. "You wandered off."

Tenten inclined her head. "I was marking spots around Konoha. Wouldn't want to reach for a seal out of habit and not find it."

Shisui hummed affirmatively, slumping at the table and going back to dozing.

Luckily by the time the miso soup was done, Shisui had woken up properly, and revealed his true colors as a morning person. The thing every shinobi hates and is jealous of at all times.

"Itachi'll be here soon, the main family usually has breakfast pretty early," Shisui said, stretching.

"Then we'll have to hurry," Tenten agreed, opening each cupboard in turn to find the bowls.

"Third cupboard on the right," Shisui provided. "Silverware in the drawer underneath."

Tenten located them, hip checking him back into his seat and putting a set in front of him. As predicted, he turned red immediately but sat down.

Breakfast was peaceful, although the peace was immediately broken when Itachi and Sasuke came in, Sasuke bouncing right up to Shisui to tug on his shirt and demand up.

Obligingly, Shisui picked Sasuke up, balancing him on his hip while he dropped his bowl off in the sink.

Tenten chuckled, dropping her bowl off as well, then following Shisui into the living room. "You wanted to speak about something?"

"Preferably more about the secret," Itachi agreed. "But Sasuke has waylaid that plan."

"Shouldn't the academy in be today?" Tenten asked, frowning.

"No, not with the arrest of Danzo," Itachi said. "My father has requested that Sasuke remain with me and Shisui, in an attempt to keep both of him safe. Additionally, he requests that you remain with us as well. With the attack on Shisui, and the unveiling of ROOT, he wishes to keep Sasuke and I as safe as possible."

"Makes sense," Tenten agreed. "Are they taking out ROOT now?"

"Many are going quietly," Itachi allowed. "But yes, they are taking those that resist out. Many of our elder cousins and family in the KPF were recruited to assist in the effort."

"Dad was talking about it over breakfast," Sasuke explained quietly.

"Don't worry Sasuke, if anyone tries anything, I can teleport us out," Tenten reassured him, smiling softly at the kid. He really was very cute. A pity teenage Sasuke was such a jerk. He was so cute as a kid.

She very deliberately ignored Shisui and his red face. Sasuke took no prisoners however. "Cousin Shisui, why's your face so red? Do you have a fever?"

"No, no, I don't have a fever," Shisui was quick to reassure the eight-year-old. "It's nothing."

Tenten smirked, leaning forward and tapping Sasuke on the nose. "You'll learn when you're older."

"Does Itachi-nii know?" Sasuke asked, looking to his elder brother.

Tenten coughed into her hand to hide a laugh. "Ah, I'm afraid not."

"But nii-san knows everything!" Sasuke exclaimed, looking quite distressed at the possibility that his brother might not know something.

"Puberty has not conked him over the head yet," Shisui told Sasuke, patting his fluffy hair. "It's bound to happen at some point."

Tenten snickered. "Perhaps. We'll see. But don't worry Sasuke, you'll know someday. Even if your brother never quite works it out."

Sasuke just grunted, still looking quite put out. He brightened. "Does it have to do with how Itachi-nii doesn't have a romantic soul mark?"

Tenten almost choked on air. "What?"

"A romantic soul mark!" Sasuke chirped, seeming unaware that his brother and cousin had frozen. "Nii-san doesn't have one, but Dad thinks he'll get one when he's older."

Tenten shot a very confused look at Shisui, who all of a sudden looked quite panicked. Itachi was no more help. Tenten quickly decided that apparently, that was a thing in this universe. Well, she'd just have to roll with it. "Oh, that's very cool. Do you have yours yet, Sasuke?"

"No," he said, pouting slightly. "I won't get it until I'm older."

"Oh well, you'll get there soon," Tenten patted his head reassuringly.

"Cousin Shisui has his though!" Sasuke said, perking right up again.

"Oh?" Tenten asked, looking at Shisui. "Does he now?"

Shisui turned red and stuttered out an affirmative. After a moment, he, blushing up a storm, tugged off his shirt.

Tenten blinked at the pictures identical to hers under his sternum and over his heart. She could really only think of one thing to say. "Those are the same as mine."

Tenten watched in amusement as both Shisui and Itachi's faces and probably their thought processes as well, stopped. Shisui's face also immediately went four shades redder.

Sasuke looked at his brother and cousin, confused. "What's wrong with Nii-san and cousin Shisui? It just means you're soulmates!"

"Perhaps they're just really happy," Tenten suggested, suppressing her smirk. She was pretty sure Shisui's brain was busy running around in panicked circles, which Itachi's was shutting down.

"What d'ya think your mark means?" Sasuke asked. "Mine's a hawk! Itachi-nii thinks it means I'll summon hawks and eagles one day!"

"Ah, I see." The bloody tanto must be Itachi, possibly signaling the Uchiha massacre. Shisui's must be the crow then, which was somewhat self-explanatory. He summoned crows, and the eye had to be his mangekyou, since it wasn't a standard sharingan. "Well, holly often means foresight."

"What's that have 't do with anything?" Sasuke asked, wrinkling his nose.

"Well, a genjutsu master might have a flower that means deception, like snapdragons. The foresight thing is probably a reference to a secret you can't know quite yet." She tapped his nose, making him screw up his face.

"Is it a super important secret?" Sasuke asked, tilting his head like a curious bird. "A shinobi one?"

Tenten giggled, but nodded. "A super important shinobi secret."

"I won't ask then," he told her, looking very serious.

Tenten patted his head. "Thank you."

Shisui seemed to have gotten over his shock, and his face was almost a normal color again. "Right, well, moving on from that, what have you been learning in school, Sasuke?"

Tenten giggled softly as he awkwardly wriggled back into his shirt.

"Well, we been learnin about the other nations," Sasuke said, clambering onto Tenten's lap. She let him, loosely wrapping her arms around him. "I don't understand though, they mentioned this one nation, then moved on and like, pretended it didn't exist. Even when I asked about it!"

"What nation?" Tenten asked, a suspicious voice at the back of her head telling her it was Uzushio. It was always Uzushio.

"Somewhere called, uhm, Uzushiogakure I think," Sasuke said, shrugging.

Tenten hummed softly. "It's always Uzushio. Understand fledgling, Uzushio was once Konoha's ally, but it fell. Konoha was ashamed and struck it from their history books. Unfortunately, it is merely a footnote now."

"It's the reason behind the swirl on the flack jackets I think," Shisui agreed. "Hokage-sama mentioned something about 'wearing Uzushio's symbol proudly' when I got my vest."

Tenten nodded. "The red swirl gracing the uniform was once Uzushio's symbol, symbolizing the whirling tides the village was named after."

"Who lived there?" Sasuke asked.

"The Uzumaki primarily," Tenten replied.

"Like the dobe in my class?" Sasuke asked suspiciously.

"Yes," Tenten said, smiling softly. "Like him. The village held his clan. But Uzushio's people are scattered and lost."

"Were you from Uzushio?" Sasuke asked innocently.

Tenten chuckled. "I am descended from people who came from Uzushio. But close enough I suppose. That's where I was, you know. I was in Uzushio. But I'm in Konoha now."

"Cool," Sasuke muttered.

(A/N) Well, the Uzushio thing came out of nowhere. Ah well. Tomorrow is Izuku and Mirio's birthdays, and I'll be posting a oneshot for that, so keep an eye out.
