(A/N) Right, this marks the beginning of the official romancy stuff, all stuff previous was Shisui pining. Can you tell I've been procrastinating getting to this point?
It started with the sneezing.
Well, technically it started with the mission that had them in the freezing rain for six hours straight, but the sneezing was the first sign.
Honestly, Tenten was surprised she hadn't gotten sick, she wasn't fire natured and had more difficulty both in keeping herself warm and in burning off diseases when she did get them. Although she did have both waterproofing and heating seals on a special pair of socks and gloves, both of which she'd gotten made for a mission to the land of snow a while ago in her original timeline. Frostbite was no joke after all.
So Shisui was currently unconscious in his bed with a high fever. Mitoko, upon being asked, had assured her that while his temperature was rather high, it was within the safe range for an Uchiha, on anyone else she would be worried, but it'd be fine with Shisui, especially since he was fire natured.
Tenten spotted a crow from the corner of her eye and turned to it. It stared at her, holding what looked like a cooked piece of meat in its beak.
"Shisui's sleeping," she informed it. "Where did you get that?"
The crow squawked, dropping the meat on the counter. It proceeded to do the weird dance she knew meant something like 'for summoner' Shisui had explained it was just something crows did.
"Yes I get that," she said. "Shisui is sleeping, so you'll have to wait."
The crow was definitely pouting at her.
"He'll wake up in an hour or two," she reassured it. "You can feed him then if you're that insistent."
The crow cawed its approval of that plan and decided her shoulder was its new place to sit and wait. Tenten ultimately decided to ignore it and went about cleaning the house for lack of something else to do. She wasn't technically supposed to really go anywhere without dragging Shisui along, so she ultimately decided it wasn't worth being obviously followed by ANBU if she left to do something.
This was better, even if more boring. Shisui wasn't really in possession of all that much, although he did have a shoji game she entertained herself by teaching one of her kestrels and the crow that wouldn't stop following her around to play.
They were doing pretty well, Tenten thought they might even be able to beat an academy kid if they were lucky enough. Or the kid was bad enough at shoji.
They were fast learners though, putting their little heads together to discuss their next move each time. It was adorable.
Shisui woke up halfway through their fourth game where Tenten was handily beating them, and the crow nearly screeched in excitement. Except she was pretty sure crows couldn't make noises like that.
It flew over to the counter, picking up the piece of meat it'd left there, then followed Tenten into Shisui's room.
"Feeling better?" She asked, watching him attempt to get out of bed.
"I'm fine!" Shisui insisted, then promptly stumbled and fell against the wall. "Kinda."
Tenten rolled her eyes and went to support him since he clearly wasn't going to be walking any sort of straight in that condition. "To the couch, and I'll get the thermometer. Then you're going to sit and relax because you really shouldn't be doing much with this bad of a cold."
Shisui hummed tiredly, stumbling along next to her.
She dropped him on the couch, quickly moving the shoji board away so he couldn't spot it and demand a game or something. Or ask why it was there.
The crow landed on his chest once he sat down and leaned back, and pushed the meat at him.
"Aww, for me?" Shisui asked somewhat blearily, letting the crow feed it to him. "Thank you!"
Tenten chuckled. "Alright, temperature." She pressed the seal against his forehead, pushing a bit of chakra into it. She left it there for a long moment, then pulled it back. Ah, it was down a little bit, but not much. It was getting closer though. Closer to a slightly more healthy temperature anyway.
"Thanks for staying and taking care of me." Shisui was slurring his words slightly, and Tenten took that as a cue to get him back to his bed so he could try and sleep off the fever some more.
"Of course," she replied easily. "Come on, back to bed. You need to sleep off the fever."
Shisui hummed sleepily, letting her haul him up and lead him back to bed.
She pulled back the covers and put him in the bed, carefully arranging him on his side next to the edge, then pulling the blankets back over him. He was out in seconds, breathing evenly through his mouth.
She chuckled softly, patting his head and heading back out into the living room.
Most of the afternoon was just spent playing Shoji with the birds, which was interesting to say the least. They were nice about it though, and she made sure to toss a bit of meat to the kestrel and some orange to the crow when she had to pause and make dinner.
She'd have to get Shisui back up, which was probably a task all on its own. A morning person he may be, but he was not at all capable of waking up any time other then that. Ask him to get up at five in the morning? No problem, he'd be up and ready to go. Ask him to take a nap then wake up at five in the afternoon? No. Just...no. He won't get up at all quickly, and he'll be half-conscious for the next hour. If you want him ready to go, taking a nap is not the right way to go.
She left it to simmer, and went to wake up Shisui. It had another five minutes to simmer, but she was going to need to wake him up now.
She pulled off the blankets first, then started shaking him gently. "Shisui, good morning, I have food."
His face scrunched, and she cooed at him. It was adorable. "Come on, you gotta get up, you need to eat, but then you can go back to sleep."
A tired whine came from him, and she sighed. "Don't make me pull you off this bed myself. Because I will do it."
He squinted at her, as if judging whether she'd do it. She raised an eyebrow, and he yawned in response. He was being far too cute for her heart to handle, he did not get to be this cute. It was unfair.
"Alright, off the bed you go," Tenten said, grabbing his ankle and slowly dragging him off the end of the bed.
He flailed somewhat weakly, but sat up and yawned again. "'M up."
"Good," Tenten said cheerfully, moving to pull his arm over her shoulders. "Up we go, we have dinner to get to."
He just hummed sleepily, practically dead weight against her which she gratefully dumped in a chair at the table.
It was the perfect time to take off dinner, so she did and set it on the table. "Alright buddy, we're getting at least some of this in you and hoping you keep it down. You need the strength."
He hummed again, blinking tiredly at her. She patted his head. It was almost like trying to take care of a particularly sleepy toddler. And it would be that way until he got a bit more awake. Which would be a while.
This would be fun.
(A/N) Hm, not sure I accomplished what I meant to this chapter, but it was cute. In the end, I am but a simple Aro person and don't know how romantic feelings work or feel, so oh well. Welcome to the start of disaster. And me suffering. Definitely me suffering.
