Many hours had passed for the group. It was now late afternoon under a dull, cloudy sky. They were now in an area with hills covered in dying grass and leafless, dead trees. The eight Autobots guarded the rear as they drove after Elsa, Anna and Olaf in vehicle mode. Ratchet heard of Kristoff's pathetic proposal attempts and came up with a not-too-far-fetched hypothesis as to why he and Sven had disappeared.
"You know his problem, Optimus? For such a big, strong boy? He's soft! He didn't get Anna to just shut up and listen when he had the chance! Many chances, in fact!"
"I do not disagree, Ratchet." Said Optimus as he and Ratchet drove next to each other up front, leading the Autobot pack.
Behind them, Bumblebee beeped. ("Are we there yet?")
"No, we're not there yet!" Answered Bulkhead.
Further ahead, Bruni walked onto a rock and licked his eye. Elsa called out for the voice, but didn't get a response. A moment later, Olaf called out for the voice, rather badly, scaring Anna and Bruni. Wheeljack groaned in annoyance upon hearing Olaf's exaggerated, poorly vocalized scream. Bulkhead slowed down so that he was now driving right next to Wheeljack, recalling rare instances when Wheeljack didn't get along with a few Wreckers.
"Just like old times. Huh, Jackie?"
"'Cept back then, I didn't wonder the reason behind the presence of my partners."
"Come on! We're all on the same team! Hey Truth Finders, right?"
"During all those cycles since we got to Earth, all I could think about was getting our band of brothers together with Arendelle. But this isn't the lineup I had in mind."
Elsa called out to the voice again, and so did Olaf. Still no response.
"Hey, Olaf. Um, maybe just one of you should do it." Anna said, trying to subtly, politely get him to stop.
"I agree. She's a little pitchy." The snowman replied, completely missing Anna's point. He opened his mouth, ready to try again, when Wheeljack swerved to the left so that he was facing him.
"Not today, all right?" He said.
Gale came in from out of nowhere, pushing Anna and spinning Olaf's head.
"Hey, Gale's back!" Proclaimed Olaf.
Gale blew through Elsa's coat, catching her attention. It then blew up toward the top of the hill they were on, revealing an Arendellian flag.
"What?" Said Anna as the group rushed to the top of the hill. A massive, wrecked ship rested against the side of the bottom of another hill. The Autobots transformed into robot mode.
"By the Allspark." Said Optimus.
"How can it be?" Said Anna.
"What is it?" Asked Olaf.
"Mother and father's ship." Said Anna.
"What's left of it." Added Bulkhead.
"But this isn't the Southern Sea." Said Olaf.
"No, it isn't." Said Anna.
The group ran down the hill and entered the shipwreck through a hole in the bottom. The whole thing was in ruins, inside and out.
"W- What happened?" Asked Smokescreen.
Bulkhead sighed. "That's what I wanna know."
"Why is their ship here? How is it here?" Asked Elsa.
"It must've been washed in from the Dark Sea." Claimed Anna.
"What were they doing in the Dark Sea?" Asked Elsa.
"Yeah, it's one of the most hazardous systems in the galaxy." Added Wheeljack.
"I don't know." Said Anna.
"How did the ship get through the mist? I thought nobody could but us. Unless, nobody was on it." Said Olaf.
"Not sure I like the sound of that." Said Wheeljack.
"There's gotta be something here. Wait. Wait, look around! Every Arendellian ship has a compartment, waterproof." Said Anna.
"That's very clever. Although it does make me wonder why they don't just make the whole ship waterproof." Said Olaf.
"I'm sorry, what?" Said a very confused Optimus.
Ultra Magnus turned to Bulkhead and Smokescreen, who were standing right behind him.
"Pair off." He ordered.
Bulkhead nodded as he and Smokescreen walked to another part of the ship while Ultra Magnus and Wheeljack went in the opposite direction. Elsewhere, Arcee and Bumblebee and Optimus and Ratchet split into duos as the group started rummaging through cupboards and feeling along the walls. Anna opened up a small section on a lower wall that held a metal, cylinder-shaped container.
"Here!" She said as she pulled the container out of its metal grips and un-corked it, taking out two pieces of parchment. The others approached as she unrolled the first piece.
"What is it?" Asked Bulkhead.
"An embedded message!" Responded Ratchet.
Anna closely observed the first piece of parchment. An unreadable language in the form of blue and dark purple symbols appeared all over it.
"What language is this?"
"I don't know. But look. This is mother's handwriting." Said Elsa as she spotted some black handwriting in the upper left corner.
"The end of the ice age. The river found but lost. Magic's source. Elsa's source?"
Elsa took a closer look at the parchment while Anna unrolled the second piece.
"It's a map."
She rolled the parchment flat on a desk. Elsa, Olaf and the Autobots leaned in to look closer.
"They traveled north, and planned to cross the Dark Sea to, Ahtohallan. It's real?"
"Ah-to-who-what?" Asked Olaf.
"Ahtohallan. It's a magical river said to hold all the answers about the past."
"Reinforcing my water has memory theory."
"I remain unconvinced." Said Ultra Magnus.
Ratchet scoffed as he faced Olaf.
"Is this really the time for your ridiculous theory, Olaf?!"
"Water has memory." Said Elsa as she moved to the middle of the floor and kneeled. Thin, blue smoke came out of her hands, followed by water droplets starting to float out of the wood.
"Elsa?" Anna said, confused and concerned.
"I wanna know what happened to them."
The water droplets collected in the center of the floor, forming a new ice statue memory. This time, it was of Agnarr and Iduna as adults.
"Ahtohallan has to be the source of her magic."
"We keep going, for Elsa."
"The waves are too high!"
"Iduna!"
"Agnarr!"
The statue finished forming. Agnarr and Iduna's final moments were of them holding each other before the waves killed them. Realizing why they went on that trip in the first place, Elsa ran out of the ship in tears.
"Elsa!" Called Anna as she ran after her. Arcee tried to follow, but Optimus stopped her with a hand on her shoulder.
"She needs time."
"Time is the last thing she needs!" Said Ratchet as he ran out of the ship while Olaf and the other seven Autobots stayed behind to look at the ice statue memory. Elsa stopped at a rock, steadying herself as she tried not to let herself go out of control. Anna and Ratchet came up behind her.
"Hey, hey, what are you doing?" Asked Anna.
"This is my fault. They were looking for answers about me." Said Elsa.
"Do not blame yourself." Said Ratchet.
"You are not responsible for their choices, Elsa." Added Anna.
"No, just their deaths!" Said Elsa as she walked away with her arms folded.
"Elsa! They were not slain by your hand!" Said Ratchet.
Anna quickly caught up to Elsa and stopped her in her tracks.
"Stop. No! Yelena asked why would the spirits reward Arendelle with a magical queen? Because our mother saved our father. She saved her enemy!"
"On our planet, she would have been awarded the highest honors!" Proclaimed Ratchet.
"Her good deed was rewarded with you! You are a gift!"
"For what?" Asked an unconvinced Elsa.
"If anyone can resolve the past, if anyone can save Arendelle and free this forest, it's you! I believe in you, Elsa. More than anyone or anything."
"Chin up, Soldier." Said Ultra Magnus as he, Olaf and the other six Autobots scaled the hill and rejoined the rest of the group.
Elsa took a few steps away as she thought about Anna's words, and then she remembered her conversation with Honeymarren from the previous night.
"Honeymarren said there was a 5th spirit. A bridge between the magic of nature and us."
"A 5th spirit?"
"There's more?" Said Wheeljack.
"That's who's been calling me. From Ahtohallan. The answers about the past are all there."
"So we go to Ahtohallan." Anna said, almost excited that their final destination had been determined. Elsa's expression dropped.
"Not we. Me."
"And me." Said Optimus.
"What? I don't understand." Said Smokescreen.
"The Dark Sea is dangerous." Said Elsa.
"Heh. Tell us something we don't know." Said Bulkhead, who did not like the direction Elsa's words were going.
"Too dangerous for all of us."
"Oh, what's that supposed to mean?!" Said Bulkhead, who was now offended that Elsa was implying that he and his fellow Autobots except for Optimus couldn't handle it.
"Kid, I'm a Wrecker. I can take it." Said Wheeljack.
"Optimus?" Said Anna.
"I would invite you to join, Anna, but the conditions are much too extreme. Even for we Autobots."
"Are you suggesting we sit back and do nothing?" Wheeljack asked with a hint of offense in his voice.
"Optimus, you can't be serious." Said Arcee.
"We cannot risk all of us being stranded. It is best that the rest of you remain here."
Ultra Magnus wanted to keep the argument going until they gave in, but he knew that Optimus's authority overrode his own, so he simply sighed and accepted it.
"Understood." He said.
"You're the boss." Said Wheeljack, who also gave up.
"Are you kidding me? Where's your self respect?! We've gotta stand up for ourselves!" Said Smokescreen.
"Smokescreen's right." Said Anna.
"Anna..." Started Elsa.
"We do this together. Remember the song? "Go too far and you'll be drowned." Who will stop you from going too far?"
"In the event Optimus can't? I'll do it." Said Ratchet as he walked away from Anna and the others, standing next to Optimus and Elsa.
"Ratchet, this mission-"
"Yip, yip, yip! I know where I am needed." Ratchet interrupted.
Optimus could tell that there was no changing Ratchet's mind, and his experience throughout the war was proof enough that a sea far rougher and colder than normal was nothing Ratchet couldn't handle.
"I support your choice." Said Optimus.
Anna knew that Optimus and Ratchet were tough Autobots and didn't doubt their capabilities, but she still couldn't shake her desire to help protect Elsa.
"Well, what if they-"
"I do not require anyone watching my back! I proved my metal during the war for Cybertron!" Said Ratchet, who could tell that she still wanted in.
"Given your history with Elsa, your judgment may be clouded, and thus jeopardize the mission." Said Optimus.
"Stop. No!" Anna said.
"You would be wise to welcome the temporary alliance." Advised Optimus.
"You said you believed in me, that this is what I was born to do." Said Elsa.
"And I don't want to stop you from that. I don't want to stop you from being whatever you need to be. I just, don't want you dying trying to be everything for everyone else, too. Let me help you, please. I can't lose you, Elsa."
Elsa pulled Anna into a hug.
"I can't lose you either, Anna."
Elsa looked down and saw Olaf standing by the rock.
"Come on."
Olaf smiled as he walked forward and joined the hug.
