Chapter 4: The attack
Klaus wakes up and feels Dave´s strong arms around him but that is not what woke him, it´s Ben. Standing in front of the bed. "Good morning. I think you two should get up so the whole time-commission thing can be done as soon as possible." Ben smiles brightly as Klaus mumbles something and tries to hide under the blanket again.
"What is it love?" Dave asks.
"My brother wants´s us to get up. Dave looks up from under the blanket and searches the room. Ben suddenly feels the energy he felt the day before return.
"Oh, good morning Ben." It is so strange to be visible. Something Ben has to get used to. Its even stranger that Dave accepts it like is the most normal thing in the world.
"Good morning. The others are in the living room." Ben leaves and is happy to use the door for ones. He hears kissing behind him but doesn't turn around. Ten minutes later Klaus and Dave appear in the living room, dressed and smiling. Ben had waited at the stairs; he didn't want to go in this family meeting without them.
Five offers his plan, mostly without getting asked about details. They will follow him and if only for the reason that he has more experience, knows the people and isn't ignored by Ben and Klaus. No one comments on the fact that Klaus is with them and not the lookout. They are still to intimidated by Ben standing behind Klaus and giving them all a death stare.
Before they go Ben says something that gives him the attention of the whole room. "Don't forget Vanya´s concert tonight. We need to get back before she has her performance. She invited us."
"Vanya has a concert, why did no one tell me?" Klaus complains.
"You had a shower with Dave as this topic came up. And don't worry we will make it back in time. The benefit of time traveling." Five says as he holds up the briefcase. "Now lets go, I want to get this done." They all hold hands and Five opens the briefcase.
Vanya had listened in to their planning, first pissed off that she wasn't part of this family meeting but understanding that it wasn't really a family meeting, it was an umbrella academy meeting for attacking this time commission. It makes her sad that she will never be a part of it but over the years she had learned to live with this disappointment. She also changed her mind about their childhood. She was ignored and pushed aside but honestly. Did she really want their father's attention so badly? No, not really. Attention yes. Being part of this, of course but she heard her siblings cry themselves to sleep often enough to understand it is nothing to wish for.
Ben´s word warm her and Klaus´ words were even better. They want to listen to her; they want her and she will give her best tonight. Smiling she leaves the mansion and let the orchestra reserve 7 tickets for the front seats. For the girl who plays the first violin that should be possible to get his siblings, dead and alive, as her brother´s boyfriend good seats.
Dave finds himself in a much more familiar surrounding. It looks like the office his cousin worked in years ago. Fifty's style he would call it. Not that the mansion (still unbelievable that his Klaus grew up there) looks like something modern. His definition of modern has to change and he really hopes that Klaus keeps his promise and shows him what INTERNET is. It sounds amazing. Who knows what they can do with their life. There is still the dream of their small home, the stray cat that will start living with them and best of all no hiding.
He looks up in front of him Klaus and the time-traveling brother Five, that is apparently 58 and only looks like 13 whispers that they need a distraction. "You could do the ghost thing." Dave says and everyone looks at him. "I mean when they are really that dangerous, they will have a lot of follower. You can scare them a bit, seeing your victims isn't funny." The brother, Luther, Dave things looks strangle at Dave as if he had forgotten he even excists but Five seems to get what Dave said.
"Can you do it?" Klaus looks at his little brother than at Dave and nods.
"How big do you want that distraction to be? Just seeing a few, seeing all ghostys that walk around, touching?" Klaus offers the possibilities.
"Lets go with seeing many but …" Five stops and looks ashamed. At least that´s the feeling Dave would read out of it. "Please don't make mine visible." Klaus looks at something only he can see, probably an army of dead following his brother. Five appears to get the best understanding on Klaus´ abilitiers because, Allison, Diego and Luther didn't offer any inside of their wishes, as if their ghost wouldn't be follow them.
Klaus told him that one night. Before he found a different approach of dealing with the ghosts, he had to see the ones his siblings carried with them every day and he hated it. No one ever listens to him when he told them but Five gets it. With a nod of Klaus, Dave sees the very concentrated look in his lovers eyes. The screams form inside the building told the that the distraction is working perfect.
"Good, lets get the visit with the handler over with." Five calls out and they all follow him down a hallway. They meet some crying people, some try to run out their ghost, some fight against them and others try to argue or apologize. Chaos followed them but no one stops them, to busy.
They reach the door and Five teleports in the others follow. Dave stays close to Klaus, he will never leave his side. The Handler is busy with her own set of ghosts but it seems to annoy her more then frighten. She really is far from human. With a nod from Five Klaus let her ghosts disappear, knowing that he still can see them.
"I see you brought back up." The Handler starts the conversation. Looking like a lizard.
"We want that you let us in peace. We won´t hurt your organization any longer and for that you leave my family and everyone important to them alone." Five says. "The apocalypse won´t be happening and we all can go our ways." They all waited for her reaction, knowing what will happen next but her dismiss of the offer doesn't come. They get rudely interrupted as a smaller man enters without knocking. Diego is the fastest and holds one of his knifes at the man´s throat.
The man swallows. "Sorry to interrupt Madam but there is a-" He is cut off by the Handler.
"I know about the ghosts, you can thank Number 4 for this, Herb." She waves her hand to dismiss him.
"No, the apocalypse. It doesn't happen anymore. There was a shift in the time-line." Now everyone looks at the small man.
"What changed?" Five answers and is in front of Herb. "Tell me!" He nearly shouts.
The man looks unsure between his boss, the knife and the child and swallows. "Vanya Hargreeves doesn't destroy the moon. She doesn't lose control over her powers. The concert is going well."
The members of the Umbrella Academy all look the small man in different grades of shock and disbelieve. Before Klaus is the first one to talk. "Good for her. Make sense. Why else should she have an army of angry, dead Nannys following her around."
Five is the first one that gets back to the real topic. "Good, the apocalypse is off the table now lets continue with the conversation. There is still the matter of the safety of this family.
