Chapter 5: Concert
They return in the late afternoon. Enough time to get ready for the concert. Ben told Klaus to let him be invisible until they are seated in the concert hall. Most of his siblings are in different states of shock but Klaus doesn't mind that his sisters has powers. How they never know and what exactly is her power is a story for another they. They won´t interrupted her evening in the spotlight for it. It might cause her set her powers off and the apocalypse will be on again.
They made a deal with the time commission. After Five had pointed out that they won´t interfere with their jobs anymore (they don't have to now that the apocalypse is off the table) they come to an understanding regarding Dave´s existence in the 21 century. Klaus is also faced with the fact that in the original time-line, the one with the apocalypse Dave dies because Klaus was still on drugs. The whole change in everything can also be linked to the one day Klaus had to be saved by Ben or better in his siblings ignoring his calls for help. He isn't sure how to think about it and decided that it doesn't matter anymore. Dave is alive, he is sober and after the concert they will go off and find their paradise.
Realistically Klaus knows that they would have to spend some time in the academy. Finding a place to stay, getting papers for Dave (benefits of having a rich father) and getting Dave used to the future.
The Umbrella Academy stands out, like always. The only one dressed appropriate is Allison with an dark red dress. Klaus stands out like a paradise bird in a room full of ravens. Diego just wore his usually outfit, minus the knifes, Dave wears clothes to big for him (Luther´s), Five is in his schoolboy uniform and Luther is just … to big to fit into a suit and wears his wool coat. Ben is invisible until the lights are out and stands out with a light blue glow.
Vanya sees her family in the crowd, and she has to hold back a smile. They are here, all of them, standing out like she expects them to but she doesn't care. They came for her.
The concert is a success and after the applause and the flowers they all go to Griddy´s, getting donuts and milkshakes and Klaus explains credit cards to Dave. He tries at least and let Ben continue the explaining after he mixed up enough to confuse not only Dave but everyone on the table.
The conversation shifts after their late-night snack as they told her what had happened in the headquater and about her having powers. First she is confused, than angry and after that she feels empty. Five offers to train her and they would raid their fathers office to find out what her powers are and why she can´t use them.
Klaus suspects her pills stops Vanya from throwing them away because detoxing isn't fun and should be done probably. They try to act as a family but as she asks what Klaus wants to do next he just took Dave´s hand and let the soldier tell them about the farm they want to buy. The animals they will adopt (cats, lots of cats) and their plan of marring. As Five asks where they plan to life none of them has an answer but they would start looking in the morning.
No one questions the plan or objects in Klaus leaving.
Three months later
"It´s really ours." Klaus smiles brighter as the son as they look at their small Kansas farm. A dream that had become true. After learning how the internet worked they had started (mostly Dave, Klaus was to unconcentrated) to search for a place to stay and they found this small peace of heaven. The next town is 30 minutes away and their closest neighbours is five miles down the road. They have a cute farmhouse, a giant barn and enough space to get 1000 sheep, if they want.
"Yes, it is." Dave confirms it and stands next to his husband. Their silver wedding bands spark in the sunlight. Their hands meet and they share a look. Both filled with surprise that they had made it to this point.
"Get a room you two." Ben comments and Klaus starts to laugh.
"We have lots of rooms, you can go and get your own." Ben looks exited. He plans to fill it up with books. Klaus is able to keep him visible and corporal for most of the day so Ben can act as his own person most time of the day. For the night they let on the TV or audiobooks, whatever Ben prefers. "We should get our first cat and call him Mr. Whiskers." Klaus pulls at Daves arm.
"How about we get our things into the house before we get a cat. There was an animal shelter in town. We can go after we have officially moved in." As always Dave knows exactly what to say to Klaus. "Then we can go and get Mr. Whiskers." Dave kisses Klaus onto his mouth and steals the love of his life the breath.
