As the sun began to rise once more, an eerie feeling fell upon the room. Clint and Steve stood tensely by the window, watching in the distance.
A few moments prior, Tony and Vision had moved Pepper and little Charlie down to the safe room that was located somewhere within the premises. Allowing us all to finish some unfinished tasks that we were unable to finish the night prior before we all headed to bed.
Now, it seemed as we all watched the sun slowly begin to creep in, we were all running out of time.
While Tony and I finished the one project we had begun two years prior, everyone went to change into their gear. Tony and I, doing the same as soon as we had completed everything.
Wanda and Vision updated all of the software within the building, and began setting up traps and force fields within the HQ. Briefly informing me of where they all were so Wanda and I could reinforce them all.
As they all walked back into the large conference room, I closed my eyes, pushing away all anxiety, and tension I began to feel radiating off of everyone, replacing them with confidence, before looking over to Pietro. He leaned forward, raising a brow, silently asking me if it was time to check the boundaries within the property, before disappearing when I gave the signal.
My eyes flickered to each and everyone of them before sighing. I noticed Nat silently stood near my brother, attempting to calm him, before they all turned towards me.
Tony casually walked, wearing a pair of circlets wrapped around his left and right wrists as if nothing was wrong. Ignoring the tension that seemed to be so thick you could cut it with a knife, within the room.
"Is it time yet?" He asked me, looking over to the large clock that had been placed by the door.
"Ten minutes to go, in counting...," I confirmed, stoically, watching as he fiddled with the small bands on his wrists.
"Perfect, just enough timeā¦" he muttered as he gestured to everyone, expectantly.
I sighed, turning to look at him before, checking to see if anyone else was within hearing range. "It'll work. You need to do it just before he becomes too angry. Otherwise, it could backfire on everyone." I said, patting his shoulder before we turned to look over to everyone else walking into the room.
"Do what?" Clint asked, confused, staring between Tony and I.
I fault the need to tell him, instead, beginning to explain and show them what TOny and I had finally perfected, after the past two years of trial and error.
Tony looked over at all three of them, with a stoic expression before he pressed a button on the band around his left wrist, causing three screens to appear before us. Gesturing for me to take the floor.
I clear my throat before walking towards one of the screens, and touching it to maximize the image on the screen. "As you all know, normal bullets won't work on these things, so I suggest you leave those here, any high technological weapon could work, but won't will unless you have these specific bullets that Tony and I designed. They're made from calcium, and carbon dioxide polymers, which we have also added to an acidic substance to. Be very careful. Don't let them get their hands near you, and watch out for their teeth. They're coated with venom." I explained, as my eyes flicked towards Tony.
"We are going to stall them for as long as possible, but if it comes to a fight. We all need to be ready." Tony added, looking at everyone before, looking towards the screens.
With that being said, I silently began distributing the cartridges to them, giving them three to four cartridges of them before turning towards Wanda, who stood by the door.
We silently stared at each other, communicating telepathically, unwilling to let anyone know of the possibilities. For we knew if anyone else knew, the future would be changed drastically, and that was not something we were willing to allow to happen.
Wanda's hazel eyes glistened with pained tears before she silently nodded at me in response to my silent statement.
I knew then everything would be up to me in the end.
The tension only seemed to have multiplied on me as Pietro made his appearance in the room. His expression informing me all I needed to know. They had arrived.
As if the day suddenly knew how dangerous it was about to become, the clouds began to suddenly grow darker, the wind slowly began to pick up speed. Tiny drops began to fall as we all slowly made our way towards the center field of the property, facing the wooden area.
We walked alongside each other, silently basking in the feeling in what could possibly be our last few moments together.
Steve wordlessly reached out, and wrapped my hand in his, squeezing it gently, before letting it go. Mouthing 'I love you' to me before we turned to face what was before us.
