Chapter 6:

It was hard for Mason and Corey to find and corner Theo, being that he was almost always roaming about Beacon Hills, unable to stay in his new home and be forced to breathe in Liam's scent. In fact, it took them eight days of after school searching to find him and by that time, Liam's situation had become even more dire. He had passed out three times in practice, and managed to convince Finstock that he was just battling a bad case of the flu, but that he was fine. Their Coach, who of course would believe anything that allowed his star player to continue practicing, accepted this answer. All of the other boys knew that Liam was lying, but none were brave enough to call him out on it. Not even Corey.

When they found Theo, he was in an alley, transforming back and forth out of wolf form, completely drunk of his tail. Well, he would have been if he could have actually gotten drunk. Instead, he was just acting as though he was totally wasted. When his keen wolf eyes caught sight of Corey and Mason though, he sobered up real quickly and transformed back into human form. Angry human form.

"What do you want?" He asked sharply.

"We need your help." Mason said.

This made Theo let out a cold, devilish laugh. "What could you possibly need my help for?"

"It's about Liam."

As soon as the words left Corey's mouth, the ice in Theo's eyes melted and his features were transformed with worry.

"What's wrong?"

"Have you not seen him?" Mason asked, anger creeping into his voice.

"No, actually, I haven't. He never comes anywhere near me anymore." Theo snarls defensively.

"He isn't doing good. I don't think he's sleeping and he never eats more than a few grapes when we're around him, so I doubt he's eating much at home. He bites off everyone's heads if we even try to ask him if he's okay. He's passed out in practice a few times now, and, I'm worried about him," Mason said. "We all are."

All of Theo's barriers and walls collapsed at that moment, and he fell against the wall, head in his hands.

"This is all my fault."

Mason and Corey looked at each other in mild confusion but decided not to press the subject.

"We think...we think that you're the only one he'll listen to."

"And if he doesn't?" Theo sounded heartbroken when he said the words.

"Then you can make him."

Theo found Liam quickly, but when he did, he sort of wished that he hadn't. Liam was splayed out on the floor, obviously having passed out after getting re-dressed after his shower and trying to make it to his bed. Theo's chest ached at the sight of the boy on the ground, so small and weak, so fragile. He hatted seeing his baby wolf like this.

It was as he picked Liam up that he came back to consciousness. He immediately tried to pull away from Theo, but as soon as his feet touched the ground, he swayed, nearly falling over. Theo pulled him up again and dragged him to his bed.

"Leave me alone!" Liam tried to yell it, but his voice broke, unable to sustain the yell.

Now in bed, Theo was able to take in Liam, the deep black circles under his eyes, the malnourished parlor of his now too skinny body. Despite the anger obvious in Liam, the exhaustion and desperate sadness were obvious. Theo's heart broke even more.

"My gosh Liam," Tears sprung to Theo's eyes.

Liam turned away but muttered a spiteful "Just leave you freaking Devil."

"No! You don't get to call me that! No!" Theo stalked closer to Liam. "I'm not going to leave because you are killing yourself. And it's my fault so I can't leave I can't leave you."

"I'm..."

"Don't try and tell me that you're fine! Liam, you are so far from fine it's not even funny! Just stop! Stop lying to me! You can push everyone away but I'm not going to let you do that to me! Look I'm sorry for what I said, I really am! I didn't mean any of that! I didn't mean that it was a mistake I just freaked out and I didn't know what to do so I just pushed you away and now you are killing yourself and I won't let you push me away! It's my fault!" Theo's voice broke at the end of his sentence.

He forced himself to calm down and wrapped his arms fiercely around Liam, who twisted and writhed to try and get out of his grip, but Theo refused to let go.

"I hate you! I hate you! I hate you! I hate you!" Liam yelled again and again, tears seeping from his eyes.

"I know. I know." Theo said, stroking Liam's head lightly.

Eventually, Liam stopped struggling and sank reluctantly into Theo's arms.

"Please stop. Please." Theo murmured into Liam's soft, old-spice smelling hair.

"Why do you care?" Liam asked, his voice shaky with sobs.

"My gosh. You're so stupid. I care because the last thing I would ever want is to see you hurt, much less doing this to yourself."

And then Theo turned Liam's face up to his and kissed him softly, carefully.

That night, Theo didn't wait to have a nightmare. As soon as he changed into boxers and a t-shirt, he walked into Liam's room. He knew that Liam was already in bed and while he knew that he probably still wasn't welcome in baby wolf's bed, but he didn't care. He walked in, closed the door, and curled under the sheets of Liam's bed. While Liam didn't move from his position on his side, or even so much as acknowledge his presence, when he wrapped his arms around the younger boy, he didn't pull away like Theo had expected him to.

Needless to say, neither boy had nightmares that night.
