Where It All Began

Chapter 10-Sasha(present day)

Sasha hated desk duty but with an absolute passion, but an unexpected pregnancy had grounded her. She was thrilled about the pregnancy but she knew it was the end of her career. No more missions, no more craziness. But a baby boy and a baby girl were a worthwhile trade-off. Tom was trying to talk her into accepting a job teaching at the Academy, but she didn't have the patience, or the passion. She was seriously considering becoming a stay-at-home-mom. Kara had retired and told her how much she enjoyed being home every day…or maybe it was the yoga pants that Kara enjoyed wearing. Just then Sasha's secretary knocked on the door.

"Commander Cooper, there is an elderly couple here asking to visit you. An…I forgot their last names." Jane, the secretary said. She was new to the job and a little unsure of herself.

"What's their first names?" Sasha asked.

"Allen and Natasha…she has the cutest little accent. I can't place it but its adorable." Jane said.

"Russian! Its my grandparents." Sasha said as she jumped up and headed into the lobby. Sure enough, Sasha's grandparents were standing and waiting on her. They looked older and a little frailer, but they had a toughness about them. "Grandmama! Grandpapa!" Sasha exclaimed as she hugged them both. They stood that way for a few minutes, until one of the babies kicked.

"Little one is making its presence known." Her grandmother, Natasha remarked.

"Yes, they do that." Sasha said. She led them into the office area and settled them at the conference table. Jane had already set up coffee, hot tea and pastries.

"They? More then one?" Allen asked.

"Twins. A boy and a girl." Sasha answered.

"Oh, how wonderful. It took us a while to find you, but we saw an announcement about your marriage and that you and your husband work in the area, for the Navy. It wasn't so hard to figure it out from there." Natasha explained.

"I'm so glad. I assume you know about Mom and Dad?" Sasha asked.

"Yes, unfortunately." Allen answered. By her grandmother's downcast look, she could tell it bothered her.

"Where are you staying?" Sasha asked.

"Oh, this nice little hotel. Its so nice and has a pretty view!" Natasha answered.

"Of a parking lot." Allen deadpanned.

"But there are trees beyond it." Natasha bickered. It was typical of her grandparent's and Sasha had missed it.

"Well, I have a suggestion. The house Tom and I bought has a downstairs master suite. It also has one upstairs that Tom and I use, but the downstairs area is perfect. I would like to have you with us. You'd have no stairs to climb, your own little kitchenette, a living area, bedroom, bath and closet. You would also be connected to the main house through a hallway." Sasha offered.

"It does sound really nice." Allen answered.

"I would like to , but shouldn't you ask your husband first?" Natasha asked. She had always been very traditional and Allen had made most of their decisions on his own.

"He'll say yes, but I can text him. He's in a class now." Sasha said as she took her phone out, and explained the situation through a text message to Tom. Five minutes later, he texted back, insisting that they stay with Sasha and him. "Alright; Tom is insistent that you stay with us. I am going to need help with the babies, and we have plenty of room. What do you say?" Sasha asked.

"Absolutely." Allen answered but looked to Natasha, who had always been independent.

"Please, Grandmama?" Sasha begged.

"I do so love babies and we've really no place else to go. I suppose living with you is the most practical." Natasha answered with a smile.

"Perfect!" Sasha said. There would be logistical issues but she didn't care in the least.
