"Oh my god." I screamed and ran up to the man who was in their arms tears streaming down my face as I recognized his sandy blonde hair matted a bit with blood. His eye was puffed up from being hit repeatedly. My heart stopped when he spoke.
"Hey Kens." He smiled showing off his teeth which also had blood in them. I dropped to my knees in front of the man who I had been pissed at since he left 4-5 months ago without much as a word. I had barely heard from him and no one had told me what was going on.
"Will.." I breathed out. My mind refused to work as I tried to work through the feelings I had. My anger of him throughout the entire mission since faded. The conflict in my mind starting up again between Ethan and Will.
"WHAT?! WILL'S HERE?" I heard Luther yell into my ear.
"We're going to need a gurney." Ilsa told him.
"I'm on it." Luther told him.
"Can you try to walk?" I heard Benji ask him, Will looked up to him and nodded. I quickly got off my knees and started to run towards where Luther would be. When I got to the tents I found him promptly pushing a gurney towards where I was coming from.
"You okay?" He asked me as he saw my face. I quickly wiped the wetness from my cheeks.
"I'm fine. I just need to do something else. Can you guys handle this?" I asked him. Luther nodded solemnly.
"Go, find Ethan." He told me. I nodded, as I ran off once again to find Julia, surely the camp had medical helicopters here. I needed to get on one and see if we could find Ethan. Surely enough I had found Julia and quickly told her what I needed.
"Kensi. He needs you here. I—I don't know if he'll make it." Benji said through the earpiece. Upon hearing this I took my earpiece out and threw it on the ground and crushed it beneath my heel.
"Of course, let me find the pilot." She said. I nodded and waited for a second, I couldn't focus on William Brandt right now. There's no way I could, I would break down, I would be broken. I had to get away from them and focus on the aftermath of this mission. It wasn't over yet. The pilot and Julia ran towards me and quickly we hopped into a helicopter in order to go find Ethan.
We flew through the clouds into the mountainous area. I looked around through the open door of the helicopter.
"There." I told the pilot through the headset I had on. He maneuvered the helicopter to land near Ethan's body which was sprawled out near the edge of the cliff. I jumped out when we were a couple feet off the ground and ran up to him ignoring the pain in my body as it willed me to stop. Julia came up behind me when I was about to wake him. She wheeled a gurney up to us. We both got him up onto it and into the helicopter we went back to camp, I put my head in my hands as I felt the pain and feelings rush through my body. Before I knew it sobs started to wrack through my body. Julia put her hand on my shoulder after she had hooked him up to everything he needed. Fluids, blood etc. I just looked at her face, she was concerned for me.
"He'll be alright. Don't worry." She told me as we flew. I nodded even though she had absolutely no idea why she was consoling me. I decided now was not the time. I sat up straight and rubbed my eyes as the pilot announced we were landing. I got out of the helicopter slowly as to not upset my body. Julia followed with Ethan in tow as her husband rushed up to us, on the other side of the gurney, they pushed it into a tent. The team came up behind me.
"You okay Kens?" I heard Benji ask me. I swallowed as I stood near the threshold of the tent watching the two men I loved with all my heart being hooked up to more fluids and anything else they might need.
"I just need to take a step back I think." I told him as I walked into the tent to Brandt's bed. I looked into his battered face, smiling softly that he had made it. I knew he would, he was a fighter, and he had better luck than I ever did. The feelings that rushed through my body were ones of anger that he didn't tell me where he was or what he would be doing. Maybe it just wasn't my time to be with an IMF agent. Our job was stressful, there was nothing I could do to stop the emotions that flew through me. I never wanted to put him in danger or in this situation again. It was his choice to continue with field work but I just didn't know if I could handle it anymore.
"Ethan, can you hear me?" I heard Julia ask. She ushered me over to Ethan's side. I came up in front of her.
"Ethan?" Julia asked from behind me again. His eyes fluttered open as he stared at both of us.
"No, don't, don't. Don't try to move. You're pretty banged up. You're a lucky man. It's a miracle that crash didn't kill you Dr. Thorn." Eric told him from the front of his bed.
"If your wife didn't find you an hour later, you would've died from exposure." I heard Julia's husband say referring to me. I looked behind me to see Erika Sloan standing near the entrance. She had got here after us, in a covert helicopter. However, she didn't do much she could have stayed at the CIA and let us finish with it. But she was keen on her plans.
"Can you give us just a few minutes, please?" Julia asked me I looked at her and nodded walking with Erika out of the tent.
"Wife?" she asked me, I nodded at her slowly. She knew my situation so she asked it slowly and into my ear so no one else could here us. The team stood with us firm and relieved that this mission was over. As Julia and Ethan had finished their conversation. I started walking us inside the tent again Julia came up next to me we both looked at Ethan. Slowly and I leaned into whisper in her ear.
"I'm glad he had you, thank you so much for everything." I told her she smiled slowly and walked out of the tent to her husband.
"Per your request. I'm handing Solomon Lane back to MI6. Through a broker, of course. Part of our ongoing arrangement. After what happened in Paris we prefer to keep a low profile. And that closes your friends account with British intelligence." She told us as she explained Ilsas situation. They all knew this was going to happen. I slowly started to understand the circumstances. I stood next to Ethan's bed sitting on the side.
"I understand now why Hunley believed in you. The world needs the IMF. We need people like you. Who care about the one life as much as they care about the millions. That way I never have to." She told us everyone nodded, they weren't going to shut us down at all. They were planning their own plans without us as to find the mole in the CIA. With that she walked out of the tent and left us to chat.
"You're OK?" Ethan asked me his hand reaching up to push some hair out of my face.
"I'm alright." I answered and stole a glance towards Brandt's bed his gaze followed mine. He dropped his hand from his face and I took it into my hand.
"You've never looked better." I told him slowly. He started to chuckle.
"Don't!" He said to me the pain in his ribs was too much.
"How close were we?" Benji asked breaking the moment between Ethan and I.
"The usual." He answered and we all started laughing as Ilsa asked,
"Usual?" I smiled.
"Please, don't make me laugh." Ethan told her. I smiled and got off his bed attempting to let them both rest. Before Brandt called me.
"Kens?" Will crooked out. My smile dropped from my face as spun around and walked over to the other bed.
"Will." I answered as his blue eyes popped open.
"I—I was trying to protect her. That was my mission…" He trailed off.
"I know." I said keeping things short.
"I know." I repeated as I looked over my shoulder to the team that had carried me through the mission from start to finish. In that moment I knew I had a decision to make.
