Chapter Fourteen
Rosalie doesn't answer any of Bella's texts the next day, so it's with a worried grimace that she climbs her way up to Rosalie's apartment. Surely, Rosalie isn't the type to just sleep with her and conclude their whole relationship, right?
She's an angel, after all. A fallen one, but still one that cares for her. And she wouldn't hurt her like this. Did something happen to her, then? Did Edward escape? Or did another angel descend to punish Rosalie for daring to love Bella?
She rings the door and she hears shuffling from inside. Rosalie pulls the door open a few seconds later. She looks stunning as always, and in one piece. Bela lets out a sigh of relief. Nothing bad had happened. She had been worried for no reason. Maybe Rosalie had just been busy and not seen the texts.
"Good evening, Bella," Rosalie says with a grin, and Bella's answering grin drops when she notices something.
Rosalie's eyes are red.
They hadn't been like that before. What had happened? Was it her powers...manifesting?
Rosalie notices this and tsks, "oh oh, do we have a problem?" her tone of voice is mocking and it's just...off putting. Rosalie doesn't talk like this.
"Your...eyes. Why are they red?" Bella manages to stutter out. Her heart is racing. Something is very wrong. She can feel it, building like a miasma around her.
"What's wrong? Don't like me anymore?" Rosalie asked. "Does my body not suit your tastes?"
"Rosalie...?" Bella breathes out as Rosalie begins to prowl forwards. Bella stumbles backwards to avoid this, walking blindly down the stairs.
"You used me up, and now I disgust you?"
"Why...why would you think that?"
"Don't you know what happens to fallen angels when they fall again?" Rosalie pressed, her face in a nasty sneer. Bella stumbled on a step and fell down the last three steps, right onto her bottom. She looked up at Rosalie who towered over her, blonde wisps of hair blowing in a breeze as her red eyes shone red. "They become demons, Bella," and when she smiled, her mouth was full of sharp teeth.
Bella doesn't remember getting home but she's there now, sitting on top of her bed, knees pulled up and crying silent tears. She's shaking, from fear and anger and confusion. What just happened? What was going on?
Who had hurt Rosalie?
Was she truly a demon now?
"Bella, is everything alright?" a soft voice asked, and Bella jumped up so quickly she nearly fell. But it was only Alice, and not Rosalie with her rows of teeth.
"O-oh, it's just you."
"I know I said I wouldn't visit, but I just wanted to check in on you all- I can leave-"
"NO!" Bella lunged desperately and clutched the small angel's hands in her own. "Something...something's wrong with Rosalie!"
"What do you mean?" the pixie furrowed her brows, not understanding the situation.
"She...her eyes were red and her teeth were sharp. And she told me she fell again!" Bella blabbered on and Alice pulled her into a soothing hug.
"Relax, take a breath."
"I can't relax, knowing that she's hurt! Alice, what happened to her?"
"What did she say?" Alice inquired, pulling away so she could look into tearful eyes.
"She told me that when a fallen angel falls again, they become a demon. What was she talking about?"
Alice's face took on a look of horror, but her voice was calm as she spoke. "Bella...I want you to listen. And do not blame yourself for what happened. Okay?"
"Okay," Bella said uncertainly as her stomach clenched.
"Demons exist in this world. Though I suspect you are not startled much by that since you know angels exist. You haven't met a demon, until now. Angels can become those. Just like Lucifer fell from Heaven, an angel does that too. Rosalie was already a fallen angel and she had her wings stripped. But, to sin when in such a state, would only serve to send her to an even worse punishment. She broke an old law- that of well...you know having relations before marriage and thus her banishment to demon status, because angels of all creatures should not do a thing even if they are angels no more."
"All because of us having sex? Premarital sex? That's so stupid! And unfair!" Bella cried out.
"I know," Alice hushed. "But it's just how our archaic laws work. I thought she knew- if I had known she didn't, I would have told her and warned her."
"I feel so dumb," Bella sat down heavily on the bed. "This is all my fault. I asked for her to-"
"You didn't know, Bella," Alice assuaged her. "It was all just bad timing."
"I want her back. I want the old Rosalie back," Bella wailed.
"I do too," Alice said sadly.
"I don't care what it takes, I want her back."
"And I'll help you," Alice nodded her head. "We'll save Rosalie."
Bella didn't care what the cost would be. Rosalie had risked so much to be with her, how could Bella not do the same? She dried her tears, determination burning inside her.
She would get her angel back.
A/N: I'm going to leave this story here. I haven't decided if I want to continue it with Bella saving Rosalie from her fate in a sequel, or if I want to leave it on this note.
