Weeks had passed and everything had changed. Quinn was right when she said that she and Laurel would be the new power couple. With the blonde being the star quarterback and Laurel being captain of the cheer team; they ruled the school.
Every morning they'd arrive together, hand in hand. People would part like the Red Sea just to let them through. No one dared cross the couple; they were feared by everyone including the teachers. Today was no different than the past weeks.
Quinn had her arm hung around Laurel's shoulders to keep her close and away from the rushing students. The brunette reached her hand up to hold Quinn's in an attempt to ease the stress she felt. They walked with their heads held high despite the weight of the world on their shoulders.
"Fabray," Laurel said getting Quinn's attention, her jaw was tightened and her eyes grew distant. The blonde turned her head to face her girlfriend and quirked an eyebrow in question, "I love you," the brunette said with just enough power for only Quinn to hear.
Quinn's cold expression melted when she heard those words. She gave Laurel a genuine smile before lifting their intertwined hands to her lips.
"I love you too," She whispered against them causing a blush to spread over the brunette's cheeks.
The couple was well aware of the stares coming their way and the whispers going around the hallway. After all, it was rare that they openly showed this much affection around people.
Laurel took advantage of this moment and leaned closer to the blonde. She kissed her jaw before moving to muzzle her nose affectionately against her neck. Quinn let out a low growl before cupping the brunette's cheek and lifting her head to kiss her.
"Ms.Fabray and Ms.Lance, keep your hands to yourself," Nixon said in a mocking tone. Quinn gently bit down on the brunette's bottom lip before pulling away.
"I was in the middle of something," Quinn said turning to look up at her older brother as he passed by.
"I know, but you were going to be in the middle of detention later if I hadn't stopped you two," He said while walking away from them. A knowing smirk plastered on his lips.
--
"Quinn, can I talk to you?" Rachel asked once glee was over. Everyone had left the room except for Rachel, Quinn, and Laurel.
"I'll wait for you outside," Laurel whispered leaning in to give her girlfriend. The brunette tried not to notice the look of hurt that washed over Rachel's features when she pulled away from Quinn and left the two alone.
"What did you want to talk about?" Quinn asked moving toward the piano. She took a moment to push herself up so that she was sitting on the instrument.
"Us," The diva let out boldly. She looked up to meet Quinn's hazel eyes causing the blonde to turn away.
"Rachel, I thought I made it clear, I'm with Laurel now. You should be with Finn, he's the one you want to be with. What you feel for me is just a crush, like the thing you had for Mr.Schue that one time. It'll pass Rachel," Quinn said knowing that what she was saying wasn't true at all. Her heart felt something that she wasn't ready to admit yet; not after how humiliated she was.
"Quinn, I know that's what you think, but it's not true. This isn't just some crush that I can get over; this is real. I'm so sorry that I couldn't see it sooner," Rachel was on the verge of begging. Tears sprang to her eyes ready to spill over the edge at any given moment. Quinn couldn't bear to see the look on her face.
"Stop," Quinn said unable to continue with the conversation. She jumped down from the piano and started gathering her things, "You and I both know that it hurts too much when you say stuff like that. We'll never work even if we tried Rachel, that's just how it is. You should be with Finn, it's easy with him. You'll be safe with him," Her voice was filled with emotion giving away how she truly felt. She left the choir room as soon as all her things were packed up. Rachel was left alone with her tears and a broken heart.
Instead of leaving to meet Laurel outside, Quinn found herself running to the locker room. She felt herself gasp for air feeling as though she couldn't get enough. Reaching a hand out, the blonde felt herself crumble to the ground as a sob escaped her lips.
"Damn you, Rachel Berry," She breathed out as another sob slipped out.
--
"I think we should break up," Laurel said after catching her breath. Quinn got off of her as she gasped for air.
Quinn and the brunette had just had a quickie before the rest of the Fabray clan got home. The blonde decided against telling Laurel what her conversation with Rachel consisted of. She'd keep it a secret for as long as it mattered.
"What?" Quinn asked rolling on to her side to face the girl beside her. Laurel turned to face her, offering a weak smile.
"Fabray, who are we kidding? This isn't what we want. Our relationship isn't what it should be. We have amazing sex; we have insane chemistry and we look amazing together but we don't love each other as we should. We're not in love with each other like we once were."
"I..." The blonde started before stopping herself. If she was being completely honest, Quinn knew Laurel was right.
"Do you still care for Rachel?" Laurel asked before the blonde could continue. The brunette wasn't mad she was sad that Quinn wasn't with Rachel. It was obvious that there was a story around them.
"I don't know, Laurel," The blonde answered truthfully.
"Do you want to be with her?" Laurel probed.
"Laurel, I love you and I want to be with you, but I love her and I want to be with her. I just don't know."
"Fabray, I need to be with someone sure about what they want. After what happened with Oliver, I need someone to only want me," Laurel let out softly, reaching up to brush the blonde's cheek.
"Laurel I want to be with you, I just..."
"I know, and it's okay I understand. I don't want to hold you back from being with the right person," She said sitting up and reaching for her clothes, "I booked a flight and I'm leaving for Starling after sectionals tomorrow," She said standing up and pulling on her jeans. Turning to face the blonde, she saw her stunned expression as she looked up at the ceiling. With one last smile, Laurel left.
--
"This can't be happening…oh my Barbra why is this happening…" Rachel let out as she paced back and forth.
The gleeks sat in stunned silence after having watched the Unitards and The Troubletones sing the songs of their setlist. You'd think that after this had happened before, Mr.Schue would have come up with a backup plan but he hadn't.
Most of them sat in sad silence hoping that by some miracle they'd have something to sing, Santana on the other hand was just about ready to hurt the diva if she didn't stop pacing. Mr.Schue wasn't that much better; he constantly ran his hands through his hair and muttered songs to himself trying to think of something.
"Okay, Rach I'm gonna need you to stop," Quinn spoke quickly, coming to stand in front of Rachel to stop her pacing. Her hands were placed firmly on her arms to keep her in place. The diva looked up to meet her eyes hoping that it would calm her worries.
"Quinn, what are we going to do? We can't lose this year."
"We won't, I have an idea okay? But you're gonna have to trust me on this," The blonde spoke getting the attention of the rest of the gleeks including Laurel.
Stopping to look around the room, Quinn took a breath before taking the diva's hand and guiding her to the piano.
"Okay so here's what we're gonna do," Quinn started before pausing to make sure everyone was listening, "We're doing modern songs, none of that old crap Mr.Schue listens to," This got some smiles and nods of approval giving the blonde the courage to keep going.
"Brittany and Mike, I need you on choreo. Rachel, I need you here helping me put together this setlist," She explained quickly stepping into action as co-captain. With several nods, the gleeks dispersed and began doing their task.
--
The pair settled on a mashup of 'Best Song Ever' and 'No More Sad Songs'. Mike and Brittany had just finished the choreography when the captains informed everyone of their parts and what they'd be singing.
Everything was settled and taken care of once it was time for curtain call. Rachel now stood listening to the songs and singing softly to herself. Santana and Brittany were going over some moves before they had to head to the stage.
Quinn reached out to stop Rachel from moving any further on the stage. The diva turned to her with a nervous and confused expression.
"Calm down okay, you're gonna do great, Rach," The blonde said quietly. A small and genuine smile played along her lips as she looked into Rachel's deep brown eyes.
"Thank you," Rachel replied with a smile that matched the blonde's. Although her smile quickly faded and her eyebrows quirked into confusion.
"What changed Quinn? Why are you being so nice?"
"Nothing, I just..." The blonde was cut off by the announcer introducing the gleeks to the stage, "We'll talk later, okay?" Quinn spoke before walking out onto the stage with the rest of the glee club.
--
The New Directions had won sectionals landing them a place at regionals. The rest of the gleeks walked off together to celebrate their win while Quinn and Laurel trailed behind. The brunette was due to leave that same night.
"You were great out there," Laurel spoke as she placed a hand on the blonde's bicep.
"Thanks, you were too. Thank you for staying to perform," Quinn responded as she stopped in her tracks to properly face the brunette, "Have a safe trip okay?"
"Of course,...you know that I'll always have a spot in my heart for you. You were my first love, after all, Quinn Fabray. You know that Laurel Lance is always there when you need her."
"Thanks, Lance."
"Bye, Fabray. Tell your brothers that I said goodbye and that I'll miss them," Laurel said before leaning up to plant a light kiss on the blonde's cheek. With one last smile, Quinn watched as she walked away.
Alone in the hallway, the blonde shuffled her feet against the tile before letting out a sigh. With her hands stuffed in her pants pockets, Quinn began to walk away failing to notice another brunette watching her with a longing expression.
