I don't own MHA

He fucked up. Bringing up the ledge. Getting closer. Scaring her right off the edge. Or...maybe he hasn't fucked up.

She was already unstable. She wasn't calming down and he needed to be closer.

Pulling her out of a mid-fall without slipping himself is easier than he anticipates. Hero workouts turned him into a heavy guy, and she's the lightest thing he's ever carried. Her weight isn't nearly enough to make him fall too.

Wrapping both arms around her was, he drags her away from the ledge. She grips his shirt like a lifeline.

"They told me to do it!" She sobs into his chest.

"They told me that it'd be better. Easier on my parents. That if I didn't like being bullied, I'd hate the real world, cuz it's worse, and I should either get used to it, or, or g-give up!"

Shit. He needs to get a hold of himself. He isn't about to cry. His eyes are just agitated.. damn it.

"I don't want to believe them, but I don't know what to do. There's nothing I can do to fix- I don't- I don't have a future..."

His shirt is a mess of snot and tears. Guess she won't be needing a tissue anymore.

Izuku sits on her other side, coming to his rescue.

"What's your name?"

Katsuki is a dumbass. A fucking dumbass. How could he forget to ask her name?

Katsuki is also shit at hugs. He's sitting, his legs spread out, hunched over her as her upper half completely leans on him, while her legs look...kinda twisted, so her left lower side is kinda leaning off him. All her upper weight is against him, but both his arms are holding her, so he has nothing to brace his back against. Needless to say, his back is killing him, but he's not about to let go of the kid any time soon, even if she's so skinny it's almost like hugging a stick figure. He hugs her tighter.

"Suzuki Aiko." She says, tilting her head to meet Deku's eyes, squinting through a curtain of messy red hair.

"Suzuki," Deku starts, "At my lowest point, I didn't know what to do either. I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't had a dream to hold onto."

"My dreams are impossible." She mumbles as she tries to curl further into Katsuki's chest, but her position won't let her, and he feels like he really is going to fall backwards.

Letting one hand down to brace himself, he moves so he's sitting criss-cross, scooping up her legs and cradling her now completely curled up body closer to his chest. She doesn't seem to mind, never letting go of her grip on his shirt. She's so small. No more than twelve years old. And he can't think of a single thing to say.

Izuku sits down next to them. "I thought so too, about my dream, after someone I looked up to...told me I couldn't."

His voice becomes distant as he looks towards the edge.

"That it wasn't practical. Then they left. They left me on a roof. And for a second, I thought that maybe…"

Katsuki stops breathing. He's never heard this part of the story. And even though Deku is here, alive… his heartbeat is loud in his ears. He forces himself to breathe.

"but then I heard an explosion. Without even realizing, I ended up moving towards the sounds of heroes and villains fighting. And I saw…"

Suzuki likes stories. Stories distract her. Catching on, Katsuki picks up where Deku left off.

"I was attacked by a sludge villain. I couldn't move. I couldn't breathe. I knew I was going to die, and every damn hero, hell, every quirked person there just stood by and watched. Like I wasn't worth saving. Then some idiot nerd was running towards me. I didn't realize till he got up close that he was my idiot nerd. He didn't even hesitate. After all the shit I put him through."

She's shaking less and no longer sobbing, but her grip doesn't loosen. He doesn't mind.

"I thought he was gonna just die for no damn reason, because really, what could he do? I... I hated the relief I felt that someone had at least tried. But of all people...and then he hit the villain in the eye with his backpack, and suddenly I could breathe."

Izuku laughs a watery laugh. "The first thing he did with his first breath was ask me what the hell I was doing."

"And he said he didn't know. Fucking idiot is gonna get killed by his reckless hero complex and zero impulse control. Suicide never stood a chance."

One of his classmates gasps behind him, but Suzuki just snorts at his dark humor.

They're turned away from Class 1A, and her face is still buried in his chest, so no one sees the proud, stupid grin on Katsuki's face from realizing he's made her laugh.

No one but Deku, of course. Which is irritating, but still... worth it.

Ok, so Idk much about talking people out of suicide because I don't have experience in that area. So don't reference this in a real situation! But, if I were in this situation, I'd at least try to help and base my tactics on my observations, which is what Katsuki did. Was that joke inappropriate? yeahhhh, but it's Katsuki. He may be reformed, but he's still himself and he, based on her displays of cynicism, guessed she would find it funny. Each situation is unique, and in this one, Katsuki believed the most important thing was getting her out of the mindset she was in. So he tried to make her laugh.

Well, please review!

Love ya!
