I don't own MHA.warning for Bakugou's potty mouth.
Walking to their new destination from the picnic is as chaotic as the picnic itself. During the picnic, Suzuki, not used to so many friendly interactions, had stayed near the calm Dekusquad while the bakusquad horsed around. But now, she has a question for Bakugou.
They walk a ways behind the group for the sake of privacy before Suzuki starts speaking.
"Do you think they meant it? The kids that told me to jump?"
Bakugou sighs. "You know, when I was suffocating, I thought karma had come to collect. I'd just destroyed Deku's hero analysis book for no reason. And then I told him something unforgivable because I thought… I thought he never took my words to heart before, so why now? I thought it was just a funny joke." He pauses, and she already knows what he's going to say.
"You don't have to say it." She says. Yes, he does.
"I didn't mean it." He looks at her. "Most people don't."
"Does Deku know?"
"Does it matter? I said it."
She tugs at her hair, something she's done a few times when she was nervous or upset. Sometimes it looks painful, and Bakugou decides he's going to help her break the habit.
"I think it matters… especially if it comes from someone we care about."
"Tch. Care about?"
Suzuki smiles. Apparently, Bakugou's not the sentimental or sharing type, which shows just how far he's gone out of his way to help her. She hopes she can make it up to him.
"Please. It's clear you both care. You used to be friends, and now, I think you could be friends again."
Bakusou side-eyes Suzuki as they walk. His glare is scary, but it's hard to be intimidated by someone who's saved your life. She glares back. Bakugou smirks.
"You've got some guts."
She smirks back.
"Tch. Fine. I'll talk to him. Was planning on talking to him anyway. You know you're the first person he's ever told about considering suicide?"
"How do you know?"
"Fucking logic. He wouldn't have told anyone else because he wouldn't want them to feel guilty."
"I think my foster mom meant it."
"What?"
"She didn't tell me to jump… but she told me no one would ever want me because I was useless and ungrateful."
"...Well. You won't have to deal with her again. And hey,"
He grabs her shoulder, stopping them in their tracks. She blinks at him in confusion.
"You're not useless, and you're not ungrateful. You're someone who doesn't take anyone's bullshit."
She'd always liked to think so. That her "attitude" was just her way of sticking up for herself, but to hear it said out loud, well, she thinks she can get used to having such an aggressively supportive friendship. Time to test it!
"Hey. Can you give me a piggyback ride?"
"Tch. Aren't you like twelve?"
"I had a neglectful childhood."
"Ugh, fine. You're ruining my image, Blue Eyes."
