Chapter 3
I opened my eyes and realized I am not at home. Memories of what happened earlier flooded my thoughts. My goodness, I dozed off. I am not in my home. The owner doesn't even know my last name. This is so irresponsible and stupid.
I scanned the living room and saw no one there. I stood up trying to ignore the pain from my elbow and foot. At least, the pain is not that much like earlier.
"Edward?" I said trying to call him to say thanks before I leave.
"Wait miss, I'll call sir Edward" Jane said after hearing me and seeing me standing.
After a minute or two, I heard footsteps coming from the stairs. Edward appeared now wearing a dark green polo shirt and a pair of jeans.
"Yes?" he said.
"Uhm.. I just want to say thank you before heading out. I really appreciate your help. I have to go now." I muttered continuously.
"No!" he cried out.
I looked at him with a stunned expression. "What do you mean, No?"
"It means that you are not going now." He bellowed.
"What!? Is this some kind of hostage taking or kidnap for ransom? I'm sorry you are getting the wrong person. My laptop is even a second hand." I retorted back.
"My goodness woman, you are either strong-willed or stupid!" he seems exasperated. "What I mean to say is, you can't go home because it's already dark. You might get another accident or stumble upon a person who can hurt you severely especially now that you are already injured. Get the point?" his face shows irritation while explaining like I am a person who can't understand.
"Fine, I guess I'll have to stay for the night." I humped.
"Thank goodness, you were able to comprehend." He rolled his eyes on me.
"Go to the kitchen with Jane and take your dinner." He said afterwards.
"Okay. Thank you again." I answered him but he was already halfway upstairs.
"Come here dear" Jane called for me. The kitchen, just like the rest of the house, is magnificent. His dining table was made from Narra and I am quite sure it is an antique. I sat on one of the eight chairs. There were three plates prepared. Maybe Aro can join us because of some chores. But, when Aro and Jane sat down with me my brows furrowed which was caught by Aro.
"Sir Edward, asked for his dinner to be served in his room." He said with a small smile of understanding.
"Oh, okay. Thank you for helping me."
"Let's eat. You have to taste Menudo. It's my wife's specialty" Aro smiled.
I took a bite and my taste buds rejoiced with the taste of the dish.
"Wow! This is really great." I said smiling wide.
"I know right? My wife here sure can cook." He said laughing earning a playful hit on his arm from Jane.
"This house sure is very nice. Sad thing, it is isolated and others can't see it." I blurted out.
The couple shared a knowing look. Jane answered "Well, sir Edward is a private person. He doesn't want to deal with other people" she shrugged.
"I noticed that. But, I was thinking why he was at the chapel near my place the other night."
"He likes peace. Sometimes he drove around and find a nice peaceful place to sit and think. You were just at the same place at the same time" Jane answered my query.
"I see." Silence follows my answer. I saw the couple sharing a discrete knowing look again but I kept it to myself.
"Well, I'm full." Aro said jokingly breaking the silence.
"Me, too. Thank you very much for the meal."
"Dear…" Jane started.
"Please call me Bella." I interrupted.
"I see. Bella, sir Edward asked me to lead you to the room that you will use for the night upstairs. There's also a pair of pajamas you can use. Let's go."
"He doesn't need to do that. I can sleep on the sofa in the living room still wearing my clothes. No worries" I immediately answered shaking my head furiously.
"oh, shush. All is prepared and we don't want to irritate the boss or hell will break loose" she answered with a laugh. I followed her to avoid confrontation again. He helped me and the least I can do is not to irritate him.
Jane there were three rooms upstairs. She opened the first door on the right told me it's the room that I will use for the night. The room was really nice. It was old style just like the rest of the house. This is my kind of house. I like old elegant designs. The bed was a queen-sized bed with cream sheets, pillow and blanket. On the bed was a set of pajamas. I first washed and changed into the pajamas to relax a little. It was already 8:20 in the evening. If at home I am probably sitting on bed reading a book or listing down things to be done on Monday.
I walked around the room and inspected. I opened another door inside the room that led me to the balcony. It was a jaw-dropping place. It was huge balcony attached to another door; probably, the door to the next room. The balcony has potted indoor plants for decoration and is lit by a series of lovely warm white capiz ball lanterns. There were two antique rocking chairs made from a hard wood also I presume. This balcony is a paradise for me. I can see the lawn and garden from this place. I admired the place, which I was not able to do earlier because of my injury and irritation.
I sat down on the rocking chair admiring the details of the place. It was really heaven for me. When I get a chance, I will have a house like this, I thought.
I closed my eyes enjoying the rocking chair and silence while thinking about the Edward.
He was really intriguing to me. I can't help but wonder about him. He doesn't seem to be a crazy rapist, a murderer or a mad man. He had lots of chance to do bad things to me but he didn't. It's not easy for me to trust people. News is full of crimes and negative events. However, I seem to feel at ease when it comes to Edward, like I know he is not bad and that I can trust him. My thoughts are still wandering about things about him when I heard a sound of an acoustic guitar playing the song "Love Moves in Mysterious Ways".
I stood up to look for the source of the music. I was led to the other door attached to the balcony. This door has parts made from glass which allows me to see the inside if the curtain is on the side, and it was.
Inside the room, playing the song is Edward. He was sitting on his bed facing sideways. He didn't seem to notice me watching him. He was a great guitar player. After several minutes, he probably felt my presence watching him and looked at my direction startled. He quickly stood up with an irritated look.
"You are intruding my private space!" he spat eyebrows crossed
"Sorry, I didn't mean to. I just heard the music and got curious. I'll go now to the room. Sorry again" I muttered guiltily.
"Alright. I'm sorry for my outburst. I'm just not used to having other people in my house. Good night" he apologized.
I nodded and went to the other room. I heard him close the door and locked it. I did the same and went to bed. My mind still wandered around this man until I succumbed to sleep.
I woke up from a dream including Edward. In my dream, he was running away from someone. He was so afraid and is also pushing me away like I am going to cause harm to him and his life. My goodness Bella! You just met the man twice and here you are being too much into him. Don't be stupid! I shook my head when I heard a knock at the door.
"Bella, come down for breakfast!" Jane called.
I washed and wore my clothes yesterday. I also folded the clothes I borrowed. Then I went down to the kitchen. Just like last night, Jane and Aro was sitting and Edward was nowhere in sight.
"Is Edward still asleep?" I asked shyly.
"I already brought him his food upstairs" Jane answered.
"Let's eat dear" we ate in silence. After breakfast, Edward appeared on the living room.
"Come on, Bella. I'll drive you home." he told me nonchalantly.
"You don't have to do that. I can walk" I defended.
"Come on. It was not a request." He said as he headed towards the door.
"Fine. Jane and Aro thank you so much" I waved them goodbye. I saw worry in their eyes.
We rode his gray Ford Everest. I told him the directions but other than that, the ride was in complete silence.
I told him thank you but he just nodded and then drove away. I can feel it; there was something more about this man. I just can't put my finger to it.
