Well, the past few weeks had been interesting.
His memory of the last 6 months had been wiped and when he got it back, he was holding Artemis hand.
Speedy came back but only tagged teamed with Aqualad for a mission.
Superboy and Megan went undercover in a prison where they unexpectedly learned more about themselves.
The mountain got attacked and Artemis grew as a person while he was unconscious.
They discovered that the Chupacabra was actually real and Aqualad got some development after he talked to Shazam.
Lord of Fate came back to fight villains but to everybody shock, Nebu listened to him when he promptly demanded that he release Aqualad.
All he had to do was dangle a repeat of last time in front of the God, even though he didn't know if Zygon would show up again, and the God promptly took off the helmet fast.
Nobody could hide their surprise at how fast Aqualad came back to them after Hex threat.
Aqualad never got to ask why an old man and a god was in a such a big hurry to get him out, after Hex threat.
When Hex was asked about it, he brushed it off as something hilarious that happened when he put the helmet on, but he was sure it would never happen again.
But the God didn't know that.
He was very cheeky about it and got Artemis rolling her eyes.
They saved Red Tornado from his destiny and family.
And now, the Justice League had been killed before their very eyes, dozens of people we're dead but yet everybody was freaking out about this.
Another species was apparently advanced enough to take down Superman and was raining death down on planet Earth and everybody was as calm as a cucumber.
Their first plan was to steal an alien war blaster, only to lose Artemis.
Artemis.
The death that changed everything.
The team's almost emotionless response did a one-eighty.
He just snapped.
He may not like the girl, but she didn't deserve to be killed before his every eye's!
He never acknowledged that his reaction was a bit over the top.
But when Martian Manhunter appeared before them after they saw him get killed, he felt hope, he knew that if he was alive, they would have been transported to the mothership.
He didn't have to ask for help from his Alien planet.
He and the team can bring everybody back.
Artemis was fine.
However while getting to the mothership, they all felt Superboy die.
Miss Martian collapsed.
Artemis, Aqualad and Superboy were gone, all in one day.
No.
There had to be hope.
There was hope!
"Stop it, KF," said Robin through his mind, seeing him freak out. "I've scanned the whole ship, Artemis is gone. She's not coming back"
People don't get revived, there is no magic wish-granting genie.
That was wrong.
Hex remembered who had given him his second life, the person still existed here.
He had met him.
"Your wrong," he said calmly through the mind link, Robin and everybody else was stunned. "Megan, pull yourself together. Were going to be okay. I know of a way to get everybody back but I have to do this alone. If I tell you what it is, you wouldn't let me do it. We have to keep going"
If almost dying could summon Zygon than what better way then at this moment?
Everybody was shocked, not even Martian Manhunter had seen him this driven.
"Are you waiting for an Invite to die? Let's get going and save the world." He said, eerily calm like they had never seen him before.
In a time where everybody was dying and he was having a mental break himself, he had somehow pulled himself together and was filled with an unshakable conviction that nobody through the mind link had ever felt from him before.
He was banking on something hard and it made him look strong and reliable.
And you believe that your loved ones will come back by looking at him.
Robin told them the plan, which was to blow up the ship's heart, which resulted in Hex and Robin being dragged into it.
Martian Manhunter and Megan defended them.
Robin was stunned when Hex was calm and said. "Seeing you on the other side buddy"
He smiled and then the explosives went off.
Boom!
Both of them died.
Well, Hex didn't die.
He rejected reality.
There was no way, Zygon would let him die or remain dead.
His faith in his idol was too strong for this nonsense.
Seconds later he opened his eyes and saw that he was staring at the ceiling in Mount Fuji.
"Well, that was awful," he said, sitting up and stretching like he hadn't gone through mental hell.
He sat up and found both Black Canary and Batman staring at him.
Looking around he saw 5 unconscious teenagers on separate table's.
In the middle was Martian Manhunter.
He was the only one awake.
Oh...well this is awkward.
And that's when everybody else seemed to get an electric shock and pulse up, gasping for air.
"Good morning, everybody," he said, smiling.
Everybody turned to stare at him.
"What, too soon?" He said before he said. "Okay, that was an asshole move. I'm sorry"
Four of his teammates believed they just died, he needed to be more sensitive right now.
Batman then explained to them what happened and you can see the surprise on his face, showing he had indeed fallen under Megan mental belief as well.
So what happened?
"Hex...would you mind telling us. How you woke up before Martian Manhunter woke up everybody else?" Said, Batman.
Everybody was looking at him.
He thought and said. "Would you believe it, if I said that I have this childish belief that if I die, it's because of old age or disease?"
The heroes rose their eyebrows, his teammates looked at him strangely.
He was not surprised when Black Canary announced therapy.
He was respectful to those who were hurting and then made some popcorn, as soon as everybody but he had therapy.
He strolled into the Therapy with his popcorn and plopped himself down.
Hellooooo, Black Canary.
He crunched on his popcorn.
"So...there is nothing you want to talk about?" Said Black Canary.
"Not really," he said, snacking down.
"Not even why your reaction to Artemis death was so extreme?" Said Black Canary and he choked. "Or why you have a weird view on what can kill you specifically?"
"Honestly I want to talk about you," he said, relaxing. "And how many years it will take for you to see me as a man"
"Hex, this is serious," said Black Canary, not falling for this. "You want from overreacting to mister cool head the moment, Robin said there is no way to bring Artemis back. You told them that you can bring them all back but you had to do it by yourself. Then you want with Robin to blow yourself up. Don't you care about your life at all?"
"Holy hell, you make me sound like I'm a bit, looking for an excuse to die," he said, choking on popcorn. "Of course I don't want to die. I have family, I have friends, I got this team, I'm training to be a kickass superhero. I'm surrounded by fine ladies and I wake up every day with a smile. Do I look ready to die when Martain Manhunters niece is still so fine and very single? You should be looking at Robin for suicidal moves, not me. Well, until Megan is off the dating market, I'm going to be like a cockroach when a nuclear bomb goes off. I'm going to survive"
He clearly wants to live.
"Then what?" She said. "What were you trying to do?"
He was silent for a bit.
"Let's just say...there is something about my species that happens when we're about to die which makes us unique," he said, surprising her since he hadn't talked about being an alien in years. "It's what pulls us through, and if we're lucky, we get to make a special request. I was going to wish everybody back. I know its possible because I've seen it happen before. When I moved here, I thought other than my heart, that was it. Mutants do exist here. But as I continued to go on more life-threatening mission's, I've encountered this thing and it's saved me. It's looking out for my parents too"
She was stunned.
She didn't know what to say but she can tell he was telling the truth.
A speedster who can't die...
Batman would have a field day with this.
But every sense she had, told her not to tell him, not only would Hex be sent out on far more dangerous missions, but they didn't know if he had a death limit.
How do you explain to parents that they played god with their species ability and now their only child was dead for real?
She waited before saying. "Well, Hex. You told me a surprising thing. But just be more careful from now on. We don't know if there is a limit to this. If you jump in, everybody will think your suicidal, when your anything but." Before she said. "But you can clear this up if you tell them"
"No way," he said. "Unless I can't avoid it with them, they are hearing none of it. Can you imagine what Artemis would do with that information?"
Suddenly Black Canary had a very funny look on her face.
"Interesting," she said. "So the person your most worry about is Artemis?"
He spluttered.
"No," he said, "But you know what she's like. She will never let me forget that I called Aliens 'Creeps' and 'Scum' and other things. Urgh!"
He slumped in the chair, he just didn't want to deal with this.
His time was soon up.
"Good news everyone," he said, walking into the living room/kitchen. "I'm not suicidal I'm just stupid!"
"Tell us something we don't know," said Artemis.
He stuck his tongue out and she rolled her eyes.
But Megan and Robin were looking at him.
That wasn't stupidity back there, that was cold hard resolve.
He knew exactly what he was doing and had an end game in mind.
Who was that they saw and will they ever see him again?
And scene!
